So I was fortunate enough to stumble across this beauty in a pawn shop. When I saw this video, my heart just smiled. This is exactly what I need to help me launch! We signed up for STUDIO ONE right away. I am so excited, but really just beginning to learn and the videos I've seen so far are AMAZING... you make me feel like even I can do it. So I wanted to say thank you. Thinking I may even start documenting this journey. For this takes creativity to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL!

holy crap it's insane how good these mixers are for the much lower price than the studio lives of the past, with all the modern bells and whistles to actually fit all modern audio production including live streaming!

I went for it yesterday, after days if not weeks of hesitation.
It could even lead me to switch from Cubase (unfortunately, I upgraded to v12 pro recently) to StudioOne.
So, integration with my Faderport 8 would be total...

My only drawback here isn't about the product, It just costs me almost exactly the same price of it to ship it and pay the import Fees but I think I won't let that stop me from getting a super mixer like this.

I have an ar16c and I love using it as my interface because the artist gets to hear a blend of everything going on at the time in real time even if I’m using all 16 channels without latency which means I never need to change my block size or even use the z mode to compensate for round trip latency and I can add eq and reverb or delay to what the artist needs to be happy without effecting the raw recording and even blending the volume of the playback from studio one
I didn’t know it would do everything it does but the one thing it really does is make me look like I know what I’m doing and as a side note can we get inserts on channels 1-8 instead of just 1 and 2 it would give me or options with my patch bay
Joe I would like it if you could tell Presonus how much I love this little mixer it doesn’t do everything but it does a lot more than you’d think really well! I’d buy it again for sure

As a drum teacher that teaches over Zoom, I LOVE this mixer! Now.....I wish Presonus would make a student (budget) version of this so their sound back to me would be better. Perhaps the same mixer with 1 or 2 mic pres?

Joe. Love your vids. On a StudioLive 12 arc mixer, do I set gain levels, record a raw song take in a band setting in StudioOne, then tweak it later without analog EQ or effects to mixer?
great review, how about the Aux Outputs, FX Aux1 & Aux2 are those (send or insert) for external effects like EQ or Compressor, etc ? i'm still choosing between this and zoom livetrak L-12. thanks idol !
Quick question regarding the 3/4 usb return and playback from my computer using an AR22 Live board, Capture and then Studio One Pro 5. I stumbled across a playback issue that I don’t recall having until recently. And this is going to be several issues actually. While playing back audio captured in Capture and playing back in Capture where I had set up Capture to record a new song with the AR22 as the selected interface: Upon subsequent playback (when the Capture file was opened in Capture 3 - not Studio One) I was not able to get audio playback monitoring through my AR22 until I figured out (somehow) that I needed to engage the 3/4 USB return switch on stereo channels 19/20. Kind of inconvenient, but I was glad I could figure that out but only after a lot of WTFs. But then another issue arose when I opened up the same Capture file in Studio One: Upon opening the Capture file in Studio One 5, it did carry the names of the input channels that had been named in the Capture session but the I/O setup had not been carried over; and while there were channel strips showing correlation to all of the named tracks, every track was only playing back recorded audio from input one, which in this case was input from the kick drum mic. What was I doing wrong? I tried then going into Studio One and setting it up it up where all of my designated I/O information was named and preselected as then chose to save as the default I/O but then after opening up another Capture file in Studio One, all of the recorded tracks opened but none of the input names held AND on the channel strips the area above the fader under the send area where it might normally say 2-track return, every channel strip read as being sent to iKick In (my channel one input). I don’t get it. Why wouldn’t those sends read accordingly as to what I had set up in the I/O and as what Capture had captured in a like manner from the selected AR22 interface? Shouldn’t this I/O information just carry over into Studio One automatically? And while I was able to then go into each channel strip in the Studio One session and reassign each channel to send to wherever like none or 2-track return or unto itself or a gate or midi-trigger, I don’t understand why Capture files are opening up in Studio One this way. Can you illuminate? Thank you.

Hello, I have been looking at the Behringer XR18, and Zoom L12. I am trying to find something in the price range that will let me 1) Have each member in the music group their own mix. 2) Record everything that is being played into DAW. and 3) Live stream video and audio performance. I really like the USB send 1/2, but I did notice that the outputs on this mixer seems limited compared to the others I am considering, but I may be wrong. What do you recommend for creating about 4+ personal mixes? Sorry for the detail haha Ty ♥

Thank you for making this video. I have an AR8c and really don't know how to use it. (New to this) It would great (for me at least) if you could make a video and show exactly how to set it for podcasting and I also have an Atem mini Pro. A short set tutorial would be great. I've spent hours trying to get a good sound. I'm getting there but need a little help, especially using the software. Thanks

@@DrGray_Drummer Routing audio can be complicated at first, especially with multiple software. What are you trying to do exactly? I know i'm not using my mixer to it's full potential yet, but so far it has been okay.
For me, the AR 16c looks great - My question is, therefore why would you go for the more expensive Studio One 16.0.2 desk? They are both audio interfaces too but I realise the AR 16c is a lower capability 16x4 as opposed to the 16.0.2 which is the more flexible 18x16. In summary the AR 16c gives you an analogue desk as well as audio interface (but less channels as the 16.0.2). What am I missing?
I use Studio One Artist version and also have an old Tascam 2488 Neo unit, which has multi-inputs and faders. Is it feasible to use it as some sort of mixer interface?
Hi joe I love my pre Sonus products I have the usb 96 and the 24c but i noticed for my live-streams and my talkshow that is not sufficient, I have been looking at the AR 12 for a while but with this virus I do not have the budget , I can find the AR 12 for a song on Reverb but it’s used and I have been taken by used gear before big time so I feel I need to find the AR 12 new. My daw is studio one 5 pro I am a sphere member. Can you please make any recommendations for me regarding the AR 12 mixer thank you 🙏 sir

I got the AR16c for my drum studio I’m also running studio one 4 professional. My question is would I need to eq all my mics individually on the mixer itself if I’m already doing it digitally with plugins in studio one 4?

Does the multitrack recording work in the sense that every track coming out of the usb into Studio One individually goes to it's own track on the DAW for example the mic on one track going to a single track on Studio One and if the guitar is plugged into another track on the mixer it also goes to it's own seperate track or for example a mic'ed drum with 5 mics going to 5 different tracks in the daw so each can be individually mixed OR do all go out as one into one track on the DAW so you can't separate the mixer tracks but they're just one track?
QUESTION: If you record into your PC or Mac, in a live situation, can you get the dry output with NO fx going into the PC and yet get the mix WITH fx going out to room speakers? ..... or can you only send the wet or audio with fx into the Mac or PC?
Can we livestream a live rock band, and use this mixer for the live mix and the aux send for the livestream?

My comment disappeared. 😆 Google's horrible automated filtering....anyways I was wondering if this series would work in iOS/iPadOS and I found an answer in the Presonus knowledge base after asking on my original comment. I would link it here if Google would let me. It basically says that it's not supported because it's NOT MFI compliant, but using an adapter (whatever your iPad takes Lightning or usb C) it should work. My audio box 1818vsl works. I remember testing this and their original knowledge base said it wouldn't work about 8 years ago. I'm so hard headed I tested it anyways lol. But I had bought it before I learned that this was possible on some audio interfaces. They used to sell one little version that is MFI compliant, but it only had 2 inputs. Actually that's when I decided to test if my 1818vsl would work and it did. The outputs work too even though the now knowledge base article says it doesn't. Although maybe my memory is wrong. I haven't used the output in a while. I guess if anyone is interested I can report back here.
Can any Presonus StudioLive consoles be used connected to a DAW using Studio One, Pro Tools, etc. to simultaneously mix multiple tracks at once as the song is playing (real-time) when mastering as normally done in studio? Or is it just basic live mixer with only the added feature of recording the separate tracks (which is still pretty cool)?
From what I understand the older (‘classic’) StudioLive 16.4.2 etc. models (and most other similar consoles) cannot actually be used in combination with a DAW app for the real-time simultaneous multi-track mastering and can only perform the recording stage of the process. Hence in order gain the ability to do real-time multi-track recording (using faders for at least eight individual tracks) while mastering with a DAW app requires the addition of a Presonus FaderPort 8 or 16 (or similar device). Please correct me if I am wrong or confirm if I am right. Thanks.
how is this for recording into Studio One? I am looking for something that acts like a traditional mixer for my studio/home setup. But that also can serve as an audio interface for multiple inputs. Is this a good device for that?
Should I move to this one or the studiolive 16 or the 32 from my behringer x usb1222? I m using a lot more of the cpu in studio one when I play my keyboards or atom or even listen to demos in studio one it sounds like crap now. The only change was replacing my evo 4 audio interface with the behringer. Help please.

Joe I got an Ar 16 studio live its 3 years old I love it!!!!... but ive never really figured out how to add outboard gear, EQ, comp etc. could you you demonstrate the best way to hook up gear to this mixer? I also happen to have a 1/4 in. 24 in/out patchbay that was given to me , would this be useful at all to me with this mixer?
I think this mixer does not have any insert points but you can use an external preamp, then chain your outboard gear after the preamp and into the line input of the mixer.

Question- If I have a midi keyboard controller connected to my computer via USB and my AR12 connected to the computer via USB, can I route the midi keyboard into my AR12 mixer thru the Super Channel USB loop back function? It would be GREAT if that works and something you should demo in a video as a big plus for people with midi. Thoughts?

Bluetooth phone conversation question: if the phone is paired to the mixer, does the caller hear you when you talk into one of the channel input mics? Can you hear the caller through the headphones or monitors? Can the conversation be recorded onto Capture and/or the SD card?

Thanks for this great intruduction. I have the same Mixer but I think it's broken, because via USB-C I just get a signal out of the XLR one. All the others XLRs are dead. And I can't adjust the volume of the xlr-one with the fader. Just the Trimming potentiometer (for the Gain, the black one right on the top) shows any effect of the signal. No equalizing... Is my mixer broken or what do I wrong? Thanks for your advice! Best regards, Markus

you mentioned using the superchannel to playback from itunes, etc. How can you do that it you are using Studio One on your laptop to record the session at the same time? I've tried this and cannot get it to work. S1 takes the USB interface (the mixer in this case?) for exclusive use on my setup. Similarly if I wanted to capture a sample from UA-cam in S1 on the same computer. Can't see anyway to do that.
You have to change Studio One's output to Ch 3-4 and use it on the channel next to the Super Channel. - Joe Gilder
@@presonus Yeah, what mean is that I am unable to play from e.g. UA-cam while S1 is running and especially when it is recording. The problem as I understand it is that S1 grabs the USB port connected to the interface *exclusively*, so that when UA-cam wants to use it for output at the same time, it cannot. If I minimize S1 then it releases the port and UA-cam et al can play through it again. Looks like you just can't do both at the same time, unless there's some Presonus-foo that I'm just missing.

Yes it works. It's a regular audio interface. Will work with any software.

Are you simply routing your main mix to your live-stream console (via USB)? We have found that if you try to use the house mix as your live-stream mix, you will have poor results. Realistically, house mix should be separate from your live-stream mix as they are two separate platforms. If you haven't done so, maybe try using the aux out (with a audio interface) as your sub-mix for your live-stream... Good luck!
So, this isn't a DAW controller for Studio One 5 pro? In other words would all channels show up on the DAW, or only channels 1, and 2? I'm looking for a quick/easy way to track a drum kit, and set the levels pre DAW
All the channels get routed to individual tracks. Go to song options and add them in. I'm still fairly new to this but it will work.

@@bubinga_basher Well you can't use it as a controller, per se. But I have my instruments plugged into my mixer and each of them are sent to their own track in S1. Mic, Guitar, Synth, and Korg volca. Once I get my levels all dialed in on the mixer, I won't touch them again. To adjust the volume levels I do that in S1. For midi, I have a usb midi controller I use for the Mai Tai in s1, but I have successfully used both the AR8 along with the Audiobox (for midi) at the same time. You just have to route your output to the correct device, in my case my speakers are hooked up to the AR8. I'm kind of rambling a bit and not directly answering your question but this is kind of my work flow. Please ask more qu3stions and we'll try to figure it the answer for the community.

Hey Joe. Worth noting that in Loop Back Mode that inputs 1 and 2 on these mixers will not accept live inputs but 3 and upwards will.
this one fits in my homesetup as a glove. If.. why multirecord with only 1 headphone? Multi, to me is 2 or more players. I only need 2 channels if im alone. We need minimum of 2 headphones jacks with separate volume knobs. thanks Joe
You have the Aux sends for that. You effectively can have 3 different headphone mixes + 1 for your studio monitors if I'm not mistaken.

@@caolanoneill-forde9497 I recommend the Faderport 8 or 16, also from Presonus. Just bought it myself. It gives you fader control, and a host of other buttons for Studio One, or any other daw. Still learning to use it, but already it is so intuitive to push the faders as opposed to mousing each fader onscreen.
