    I have to go with encre noire A'l Extreme- its masterpiece and its elegant. Dont think wrong sycamore is very nice and beautiful. But I going the lalique style it hits home.

    I agree with you almost 100% my brother, but I gotta go with Sycomore this time. EN à l´extreme may well be a phenomenal smoky, dark, and gorgeous inky vetiver but it can also be a tad bit somber at times. Nothing beats the uplifting smoothness of the Chanel Aldehydes that lend a fluffiness to an otherwise rooty and earthy vetiver. They are both great, but my heart goes to the Chanel.

    When I first purchased a L'extreme I did not like it, it seemed to have a dirty smell to it. another fragrance reviewer suggested to give it 15-20 sprays and let it mature in the bottle for a few months. I wore it today and I was really impressed with it, glad I gave it a chance. I don't know if I can afford the Chanel at this time but I will hunt for a decant of it. I am sure it is a great fragrance. #vetiver rocks

    Sycamore smell profile is smooth and refined. Encre Noir Al Extreme smells similar but has some sharp edges. For the price Encre would be a better choice. But if you can afford a bottle of Sycomore its definitely worth it.

    i feel like this was a very honest and interesting comparison. I've been researching sycomore and I think it would be interesting for someone to compare sycomore and encre noire in a blind test, among other vetiver scents. I wonder if that would eliminate this phenomenon of people saying that sycomore is more elegant and refined, but less favorable than encre noir.

    It depends on the taste.... We all have different opinions. I don't find them similar at all. I like Encre Noir better, but it has a very serious flaw - it's a skin scent...I dislike Sycomore, it's also a skin scent! Furthermore, to me Sycomore tastes less complex, outdated, not even elegant anymore with the advent of more modern scents. It seems linear and boring, old barbershop fragrance. EN is not projecting.... So for Vetiver lovers like myself I would recommend: Nishane's Sultan Vetiver, TF Gray Vetiver, Vetiver & Golden Vanilla by Jo Malone, Eight & Bob La nuit de megave, Prada Vetiver infusion (they are not listed in any particular order). Frankly I'm hoping to be of help to all Vetiver lovers. My journey has started with EN. So, here's an honest review from MY PERSPECTIVE

    I haven't tried the L'extreme, but had the original Encre Noire and had to get rid of it, because people around me hated the dry down (by dry down I mean the next day on clothes, not in 10 min). They said it smelled like something had gone bad - like rotten socks or smth really unpleasant. I also noticed that Lalique's dry down was quite strange and I think it was the place where the cheapness comes through. Now I've got a sample of Sycomore and am planning to buy a 200ml bottle, because it's a much more grown up fragrance, more intimate, cleaner, non-offensive and stays true to it's initial scent after dry down. I'm surprised people compare Lalique with Sycomore, cause they do both have vetiver notes, but they are definitely not similar fragrances. Again, I love the opening of Lalique, but it's just not a good product compare to quality fragrances.

    I hate sycamore. I hate terres de Hermès (i like tres Fraiche). I can tolerate Guerlain Vetiver. I love Grey Vetiver. I’m a fan of woods, incense, resins, and more warm fragrances (especially when you’re talking about gourmands). Would I like encre noir a la extreme? I know that I wouldn’t like the original encre noir.

    • @expansefloating4096

      If you haven’t already tried it, I’d say you would like A La Extreme. In my opinion it’s at least 50/50 in the incense to Vetiver proportions. It does smell smokier, richer, woodier, and drier. I think elemi is in it which is a resin. A very nice scent. My favorite in the line is Sport.

    • @ScentedMoments
      @ScentedMoments  4 роки тому +8

      1930 Sycomore, not only is long discontinued, but also has nothing to do with today's Sycomore.
      Jacques Polge took the inspiration of that name and created Sycomore as we know, in 2008.

      I’d say it’s A La Extreme is unisex, but if you believe female fragrances are sweet and fruity and male fragrances are dry and woody, then this is a male perfume. What I get from it is a very dry, incense and vetiver combination. Think of the smell of a sacred ancient temple. It’s dark, heavy, cavernous. On the altar is burning incense, resins and strands of vetiver. Smoke floats up and out through an opening in the ceiling but also drifts around in the space. Imo this is a type of smell that cannot be gendered.

    Both of these are C grade fragrances. In the fragrance world compared to many B grade and A grade fragrances these are not worth the time. Wearing fragrances is about the experience and the imagination it creates. These two contain synthetics and turn into undesirable scents.
