But the one I got today smells like faint smell of fesses covered in a nice smell there was none of the lighter / fresher / fruity and bubble gummy kinda scents. I wanted to love it but I really can't. I will have to wash it as I can't stand it anymore. I can't get over the fecal smell. So maybe they changed the formula but not in a good way
The reviewers are not smelling coffee or something else to clear their senses before smelling the different smells. There is a reason the high end counters keep them on hand. Just sayin.
Encre Noire was a blind buy and I never regret it. It's in my top 3 for sure. It is dark, indeed, like a dark cedar forest. It's not for a bubbly personality, but for someone with a dark powerful aura. It doesn't smell like death or coffins. People said it smells like darkness and I thought it just sounds stupid at first .. until I've smelled it. Absolutely amazing.
@@huyvu4765 I can't say for sure but from what I've seen, the original seems to be more unique, but it might also not be for everyone's taste. From what I've seen, you either love it or hate it. Most of it will probably love it. It's not a sweet smell. Think of grass, resin, kind of a coniferous .. maybe a bit like a fresh new leather wallet. Sort of.

Well i am a female and i love dark and mysterious perfumes, not generic smelling crap, so with that being said i purchased this for my partner, and it was an instant love for him and myself, it smells dark Gothic mysterious very sexy in my opinion, and he has received many compliments wearing it to, as it doesn't smell like everyone else!! beautiful vetiver based fragrance with a kind of inky vibe to me, and like walking through a forest on a damp foggy autumn day, with all the beautiful smells of nature! To say it smells of death, is beyond ridiculous, let's hope you never have to smell that, but if you do, i can guarantee you, you will be wishing it smelt like the stunning Encre Noire!!
It smells like the distilled essence of pensive sadness and stoic resignation - which is kinda amazing when you think about it! And there are certainly times in life like that and that call on this fragrance as the perfect accompaniment..along with dark clothing and a resigned smile
Encre noir is challenging. It’s not your conventional fresh or sweet smell. It’s the scent of an extremely dry and dark wooded forest. I think it’s smells magical and I absolutely adore it! It’s not a scent anyone will ever cozy up to, but it definitely one that people can’t help but be intrigued by, and I think that’s the beauty of it.
Honestly maybe it was reformulated or something, as alcohol percentage changed, I don't find it challenging at all. I get compliments on it, it's masculine and woody, unique. I have no idea how can anyone absolutely dislike it, unless you smell the opening straight after spraying it. It smells nothing like death.

In the Indian subcontinent we have a non-alcoholic beverage more so like a "sherbet" of sorts called the "khus ka sherbet" translating to "Sherbet of vetiver". It's consumed in the peak of dry summer months when people are vulnerable to heat stroke. When I first bought Encre Noire, it rekindled memories of childhood from simpler times. Encre Noire is like the millionaire you meet at an airport who's dressed like an every day man of the mill, he's soft spoken, well behaved but his words cut sharp like razor blade and his intellect seeps through his modest disposition. It's a masterpiece. Also, the bottle of the original is OG gothic.

I just love the original and the sport to me has 75% of the original with some citrus on top. This perfume is all about being alone, in the woods, standing under a tree during the rain. It is dark yet so beautifully made. Indeed it requires you to wear it dressed accordingly (black) and for me the original is a tuxedo frag while sport allows me to enjoy the DNA while not being so formal but still going with black.
Haha man, fragrance is so subjective. I've only smelled the original and I have a full bottle. I've noticed most people find it the "Dracula" fragrance, or the creepy death fragrance lol, but to me it's the opposite. It's my "chilling by myself, leave me alone" cologne. When I wear it, I picture myself laying in a huge field with tall grass, with some dark clouds looming overhead. But in the most comforting way possible. 😂🤷♂️
Upon blind buying this today (£25 100ml), my impressions are... (Silence of The Lambs): Buffallo Bills basement. 'Goodbye Horses' playing. Bill is wrapping the body of a 60yr old, heavily perfumed drag queen, into a couple of thick leather jackets, that have been damp for some time. Its dark, it's damp, it's leathery, it's depressive. But I dig it.
Really respect the Encre Noir line. The original is dark and is an acquired taste. I understand not everyone digs it. The sport is a fresher version of the original, but Encre Noir L'Extrême is a masterpiece, IMO. My favorite of the three and is in my top ten all time.
The fact is for me seeing her say how dark and scary this is...I AM SOLD! I love dark unique beasts! I not only am 1 but love to express the vibe in others soul through pungence.. great REVIEW
Funny to me Encre Noir is very wearable, used to rock is when I was 16-20 and actually got compliments on a few occasions. Will have to try the Extreme next 🌚🔥
Vetiver rules. I blind-buyed ENCRE NOIR first and I love it from here to the Moon and back. Luckily I have all 3 now and will keep buying them always. Best dark, very very unique men scent!!
These parfums should be sprayed on skin, not on paper. They are very dark, misterious. The original is for Bruce Wayne type of a guy, Batman type of personality. Believe me, in Cold winter night, all black outfit: Coat, turtleneck, jeans and boots. Believe me. It works.
I love and appreciate all three. Sport is the easiest wear, and I find myself wearing it the most. The other two aren't as easy to pull off or as versatile, but I think they both smell fantastic. Both my wife and I are amazed that the original is so polarizing/hated by many people. We both enjoy it a lot.
Encre Noire needs a 20 minute dry down to be at its best. After the dry down, it is a smoother, more "polite", and very unique fragrance. This is a must have.
encre noir a l'extreme is masculine,dark,sexy sport one is much lighter and 'wearable' ....the OG tho smell like an ashtray in the opening and too dry/ woodsy...not expensive so you could buy all of them but i still recommend a l'extreme more than the rest
These fragrances are superrrr affordable, interested to learn a little more about them. I see them everywhere in rite aid, marshalls etc but never actually smelled
I just received the simple Encre Noire, and even though I'm not in love with it, it smells very pleasant, just a bit incomplete to me. If I had to use one word, it smells straight up like a pine. Very clearly. Definitely not like death. But not much freshness, not much sweetness or roundness to complete the scent. So, I do understand why it's difficult for noses. But maybe with layering it could become killer (for example add the original Stronger With You on top of it). Just my 2 cents!
As a gothy metal dude getting into frags in my 30's I am hyped to get my nose on this. Given I adore Fahrenheit I think this will hit a similar unapologetically masculine yet unique.
The original is a damp dark woods smell that I love, reminding me of being deep in the forests of the Pacific NW. I can see how it could be challenging to the average person, but it's superbly crafted for the price.
Scent is always subjective, I will give you that. However the original and L'extreme are two of my favourite ones. Hmm how did I get here? Darn recommended
Encre Noir is Soo Good!!! I absolutely love it! but I also Love Tom ford Black orchid, which does totally smell like a funeral, obviously most people do not like the smell and ive never gotten compliments on either of them Lol XD but its just art to me.
The kind of scent that is preferable to smell at a distance, a women walking by and smelling it would much enjoy it than smelling the full scent on a paper strip.
😂 I think the first 2 temporarily lowered y’all’s standards. I own Encore Noir Sport and it is quite polarizing. It’s got a strong spicy earthy smell which I associate with Indian culture, (actual India).
I love all of these, but Sport is definitely the safest buy of the bunch, especially for younger folks. Original and L'Extreme are not mass-appeal scents by any means; you've gotta be in your thirties or older to pull them off, and even then, not everyone will dig them.

It smells like Dylan Blue on me. I have a strange body chemistry that changes cologne on my body. It's very difficult to find fragrances that smell good on me.
I saw that video. I blind bought because of her review and I will never, ever, ever wear it. I also blind bought Guerlain Heritage because of a Demi Rawling video. It took me two times to learn not to blind buy a fragrance!! Will never do that again!
Just so you know in the world of Fragerances "sport" doesn't mean it invokes images of sports. It basically means that the scent is designed to be mass appealing and something you can wear on a regular daily basis. Like something a man can wear at work because it just smells clean masculine and fresh and simple verses something more challenging or something that's more ambery sweet and sultry/sexual.
They smell phenomenal. Very challenging and difficult to wear. Unfortunately I get headache when I wear it, otherwise my most favorites they are. They smell like inc in the old Bic pens.
One day some years ago, while it was raining I was staying in the garage with the door open eating a grapefruit. Very random but every time I smell my father's encre noire sport it reminds me of that day:)

I got EN Sport for a steal a few months ago, and I finally got a bottle of the original the other day. I can't agree less with the comment that Sport doesn't smell like the rest of the line, because to my nose it smells like almost the exact same scent, just one that got washed off a little.
I was told that I should probably start with the sport to see if I like that kind of scent. That the sport still had the DNA of the other ones but just much more approachable.
Final Fantasy 7 and Final Fantasy 8 have the smell of Encre Noire series. Also Encre Noire smells like a forest. Think you are in the forest where Aeris went. You get that smell.
I tried OG a long ago and there was a feeling that I was in a damp hole, covered with grass, and cucumber pickle was poured on top. If a person turns into a zombie immediately after a funeral, this is how he should smell when he crawls out of the grave
Though scents always subjective it's not really fair for 2 younger folks to judge a scent that's very strong and masculine that's intended for an older guy to wear. Of course you're not going to like it or appeal to you being under 30yo. Why would you bother reviewing scents with a more mature scent profile (Vetiver,incense,sandlewood etc) intended for more mature men and expect it to be appealing to your nose? It's like telling a 19yo girl to wear Chanel No 5 and be in love with it. Very unfair.
@@SoCalScents gotcha. I agree most women don't care for Vetiver heavy scents especially younger women. Very few women under 30 will like these scents on a guy. Vetiver is very mature smelling.
Encre Noire the original opens up like Pine Sol... but dries down into a beautiful powdery, woody scent with a hint of clean, fresh laundry to me. Extreme reminds me of a less tea Jacque Fath Yang. Especially the dry down.
Out of the three I own a decant of Sport and it has a sophisticated scent. I get a woody, green and a bit fresh vibe. I really enjoy it! Great review! Keep it up guys. Shout out from Costa Rica! 👍🏽
I actually love Sport and Extreme. I do not like the original very much though. But they're not meant to be mass appealing, they're more "artistic." There's a gothic style to them. But I really do like both of the flankers. So I would describe the Sport version as like a wet rainforest kind of smell. And the Extreme one is more like a smooth, dry, rotting wood, but elegant... kinda dressy. Again, they're meant to be unique and artistic, but IMO, I think these 2 flankers are totally wearable. That's my take on them, anyway.

Lalique Encre Noire for my nose smells like wet, moldy, rotten wood. I used to work in a furniture manufacturing and this scent reminds me of that bad smell. Not for me, I hated it.

I got the sport version. Just starting my fragrance journey...didn't want to risk buying the original just yet. .. I've wanted a bit of a mix. ( Different smelling perfumes) So far I have these Winter / night Fragrances Pacco Rabane XS l'exces Wanted by night Azarro The most wanted Azzaro Mercedes Benz Black Summer fresh scents Versace homme BVLGARI - AQUA Atlantique Daily day fragrances Dunhill Icon Mont Blanc Explorer Encore Noire sport Afnan Supremacy Tequila Noir . I feel the dry down on Encore sport not and Dunhill Icon are similar And Supremacy and Tequila Noir are identical unfortunately. My next buys are going to be.from the House of Guerlain - two from there .. maybe ideal extreme and another one I probable will buy one of Dylan Blue or Dior Homme intense .. Thoughts?
Ideal extreme is my favorite from guerlain. It’s hard to get guerlain though as it’s not avail on US stores anymore. I’m not a fan of DHI as it’s a little lipsticky to me. Dylan blue is a solid blue fragrance, but if you want something more unique. Check out lacoste L’homme intense.

It smells like an old lady's purse where some generic old lady perfumes from the 80s got leaked in there. I wish it wasn't like this, I blind bought it and tried to like it but its impossible different people share my opinion as well.
I love vetiver. Creed Original Vetiver, Terre d’ Hermès, TF Grey Vetiver, Malle Vetiver Extraordinaire, but Encre Noire, EDT and EDP are horrible to me. EDT smells so Smokey...and not good, campfire smoke, but burn pile or trash burn smoke. The EDP is slightly better. After reading some of the comments, I am convinced EN is just way over my head or something. Idk

I’m a grown middle-aged man, and I think the original Encre Noir smells just plain awful. Unlike with other people, for me, it never conjures up any interesting imagery such as dark, damp forests or haunted mansions. It’s simply a very unpleasant linear scent. For me, it has absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever. However, my girlfriend likes it, lol!! I own it, but I don’t think I’ll ever wear it again.
This is a masterpiece but alas by time people catch up and realise it. It will be discontinued. I'm reading that many of those who enjoy it wear it in autumn/winter try wearing it in summer. To my nose as it drysdown it becomes a more calming scent. It earns such negative comments such as another absolute masterpiece which is Narciso Rodriguez for him Edt which is sadly discontinued. Both are described as the smell of Death Wet cement depression grey funerals etc. I believed that nonsense until I got my nose on both and.....wow they're awesome because they're different and the drydown is beautiful.
I'm so glad you did this video. I blind bought the Encre Noire A L'extreme based on the hype and I don't like it. This is during lock down so it's hard to go to the store and sample things. I was hoping for a woodsy forest type vibe but I don't get that at all. It smells like pencil shavings, ink and something rotten. I'm struggling to find an occasion that would be appropriate to wear this. It's definitely not a date night or sexy scent. Maybe it would be good for work if you wanted a kind of old factory industrial machine vibe. I hate to waste the bottle but I will probably toss it to make room on my shelf for something more enjoyable.

I know she really enjoys by the fireplace, rich warm addictive. She did our first ever date video like 3 years ago for us! The only 10 she has ever given out was Gucci guilty love, which was this summer. I can’t remember all of her favorites though, as she’s been in like 15-20 videos for us.
first time I tested encre noir . I was already tryed ecentric 01 02 03 .. and those, specially 03 has a note , similar to vetiver, or maybe vetiver , I dont know , but it last very very long time on clothes . son when I put my nose in that encrenoir , I felt somthing similar to that vetiver, but in a very economic way . Ofc taste is entirely subjective thing but it still baffles me that both of them felt about Encre Noire the way they did o.O This is one of my all time favorite fragrances and in regards to how others react to it - it`s probably the one that I get compliments on most often. By that metric it just blows out of the water fragrances that cost 10 times as much.
One of those love/hate fragrances. I wanted to like it, tried the extreme on my arm, had to come home and scrub it twice. I guess it's the veriver, not my taste at all...

No dracula, no sense of darkness, no death or whatever. This smells like church incense. That’s it. No drama or whatever.

Funny to me Encre Noir is very wearable, used to rock is when I was 16-20 and actually got compliments on a few occasions. Will have to try the Extreme next 🌚🔥
Vetiver rules. I blind-buyed ENCRE NOIR first and I love it from here to the Moon and back. Luckily I have all 3 now and will keep buying them always. Best dark, very very unique men scent!!

These parfums should be sprayed on skin, not on paper. They are very dark, misterious. The original is for Bruce Wayne type of a guy, Batman type of personality. Believe me, in Cold winter night, all black outfit: Coat, turtleneck, jeans and boots. Believe me. It works.

I love and appreciate all three. Sport is the easiest wear, and I find myself wearing it the most. The other two aren't as easy to pull off or as versatile, but I think they both smell fantastic. Both my wife and I are amazed that the original is so polarizing/hated by many people. We both enjoy it a lot.
a l'extreme is one of my favorites ever. Such a sophisticated fragrance, especially for that price.
Encre Noire needs a 20 minute dry down to be at its best. After the dry down, it is a smoother, more "polite", and very unique fragrance. This is a must have.

encre noir a l'extreme is masculine,dark,sexy sport one is much lighter and 'wearable' ....the OG tho smell like an ashtray in the opening and too dry/ woodsy...not expensive so you could buy all of them but i still recommend a l'extreme more than the rest
These fragrances are superrrr affordable, interested to learn a little more about them. I see them everywhere in rite aid, marshalls etc but never actually smelled

I have received a negative compliment wearing a l'extreme yet I still like it on me much
I just received the simple Encre Noire, and even though I'm not in love with it, it smells very pleasant, just a bit incomplete to me. If I had to use one word, it smells straight up like a pine. Very clearly. Definitely not like death. But not much freshness, not much sweetness or roundness to complete the scent. So, I do understand why it's difficult for noses. But maybe with layering it could become killer (for example add the original Stronger With You on top of it).

The original is a damp dark woods smell that I love, reminding me of being deep in the forests of the Pacific NW. I can see how it could be challenging to the average person, but it's superbly crafted for the price.

Encre Noir is Soo Good!!! I absolutely love it! but I also Love Tom ford Black orchid, which does totally smell like a funeral, obviously most people do not like the smell and ive never gotten compliments on either of them Lol XD but its just art to me.
The kind of scent that is preferable to smell at a distance, a women walking by and smelling it would much enjoy it than smelling the full scent on a paper strip.
😂 I think the first 2 temporarily lowered y’all’s standards. I own Encore Noir Sport and it is quite polarizing. It’s got a strong spicy earthy smell which I associate with Indian culture, (actual India).

I love all of these, but Sport is definitely the safest buy of the bunch, especially for younger folks. Original and L'Extreme are not mass-appeal scents by any means; you've gotta be in your thirties or older to pull them off, and even then, not everyone will dig them.

Just so you know in the world of Fragerances "sport" doesn't mean it invokes images of sports. It basically means that the scent is designed to be mass appealing and something you can wear on a regular daily basis. Like something a man can wear at work because it just smells clean masculine and fresh and simple verses something more challenging or something that's more ambery sweet and sultry/sexual.
They smell phenomenal. Very challenging and difficult to wear. Unfortunately I get headache when I wear it, otherwise my most favorites they are. They smell like inc in the old Bic pens.
One day some years ago, while it was raining I was staying in the garage with the door open eating a grapefruit. Very random but every time I smell my father's encre noire sport it reminds me of that day:)

I got EN Sport for a steal a few months ago, and I finally got a bottle of the original the other day. I can't agree less with the comment that Sport doesn't smell like the rest of the line, because to my nose it smells like almost the exact same scent, just one that got washed off a little.
I was told that I should probably start with the sport to see if I like that kind of scent. That the sport still had the DNA of the other ones but just much more approachable.

Though scents always subjective it's not really fair for 2 younger folks to judge a scent that's very strong and masculine that's intended for an older guy to wear. Of course you're not going to like it or appeal to you being under 30yo. Why would you bother reviewing scents with a more mature scent profile (Vetiver,incense,sandlewood etc) intended for more mature men and expect it to be appealing to your nose? It's like telling a 19yo girl to wear Chanel No 5 and be in love with it. Very unfair.

@@SoCalScents gotcha. I agree most women don't care for Vetiver heavy scents especially younger women. Very few women under 30 will like these scents on a guy. Vetiver is very mature smelling.
Encre Noire the original opens up like Pine Sol... but dries down into a beautiful powdery, woody scent with a hint of clean, fresh laundry to me. Extreme reminds me of a less tea Jacque Fath Yang. Especially the dry down.
Out of the three I own a decant of Sport and it has a sophisticated scent. I get a woody, green and a bit fresh vibe. I really enjoy it!

I actually love Sport and Extreme. I do not like the original very much though. But they're not meant to be mass appealing, they're more "artistic." There's a gothic style to them. But I really do like both of the flankers. So I would describe the Sport version as like a wet rainforest kind of smell. And the Extreme one is more like a smooth, dry, rotting wood, but elegant... kinda dressy. Again, they're meant to be unique and artistic, but IMO, I think these 2 flankers are totally wearable. That's my take on them, anyway.
Sport to me smells like a classic sport fragrance. Easy to wear, very casual.

Lalique Encre Noire for my nose smells like wet, moldy, rotten wood. I used to work in a furniture manufacturing and this scent reminds me of that bad smell. Not for me, I hated it.

Ideal extreme is my favorite from guerlain. It’s hard to get guerlain though as it’s not avail on US stores anymore.
I’m not a fan of DHI as it’s a little lipsticky to me. Dylan blue is a solid blue fragrance, but if you want something more unique. Check out lacoste L’homme intense.

It smells like an old lady's purse where some generic old lady perfumes from the 80s got leaked in there. I wish it wasn't like this, I blind bought it and tried to like it but its impossible different people share my opinion as well.
I love TdH but at first I didnt get it, then boom! I think maybe encre noire is prob the same kinda vibe, too classy for most folk!
I love vetiver. Creed Original Vetiver, Terre d’ Hermès, TF Grey Vetiver, Malle Vetiver Extraordinaire, but Encre Noire, EDT and EDP are horrible to me. EDT smells so Smokey...and not good, campfire smoke, but burn pile or trash burn smoke. The EDP is slightly better. After reading some of the comments, I am convinced EN is just way over my head or something. Idk

I’m a grown middle-aged man, and I think the original Encre Noir smells just plain awful. Unlike with other people, for me, it never conjures up any interesting imagery such as dark, damp forests or haunted mansions. It’s simply a very unpleasant linear scent. For me, it has absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever. However, my girlfriend likes it, lol!! I own it, but I don’t think I’ll ever wear it again.
This is a masterpiece but alas by time people catch up and realise it. It will be discontinued.
I'm reading that many of those who enjoy it wear it in autumn/winter try wearing it in summer.
To my nose as it drysdown it becomes a more calming scent. It earns such negative comments such as another absolute masterpiece which is Narciso Rodriguez for him Edt which is sadly discontinued. Both are described as the smell of Death Wet cement depression grey funerals etc.
I believed that nonsense until I got my nose on both and.....wow they're awesome because they're different and the drydown is beautiful.
I'm so glad you did this video. I blind bought the Encre Noire A L'extreme based on the hype and I don't like it. This is during lock down so it's hard to go to the store and sample things. I was hoping for a woodsy forest type vibe but I don't get that at all. It smells like pencil shavings, ink and something rotten. I'm struggling to find an occasion that would be appropriate to wear this. It's definitely not a date night or sexy scent. Maybe it would be good for work if you wanted a kind of old factory industrial machine vibe. I hate to waste the bottle but I will probably toss it to make room on my shelf for something more enjoyable.
You should just try to sell it. No reason to keep something you don’t love. It gets a lot of strange hype but is definitely not mass appealing.

I know she really enjoys by the fireplace, rich warm addictive. She did our first ever date video like 3 years ago for us! The only 10 she has ever given out was Gucci guilty love, which was this summer. I can’t remember all of her favorites though, as she’s been in like 15-20 videos for us.

first time I tested encre noir . I was already tryed ecentric 01 02 03 .. and those, specially 03 has a note , similar to vetiver, or maybe vetiver , I dont know , but it last very very long time on clothes . son when I put my nose in that encrenoir , I felt somthing similar to that vetiver, but in a very economic way . I dont see that death vibe . and I don´t know , so cal so cal so cal so cal so cal so cal so cal so cal!!!!!!!!!!

Ofc taste is entirely subjective thing but it still baffles me that both of them felt about Encre Noire the way they did o.O This is one of my all time favorite fragrances and in regards to how others react to it - it`s probably the one that I get compliments on most often. By that metric it just blows out of the water fragrances that cost 10 times as much.
Fragrances MUST be matched to the wearer. You can't be a young adult male wearing it. You have to support the perfume.
One of those love/hate fragrances. I wanted to like it, tried the extreme on my arm, had to come home and scrub it twice. I guess it's the veriver, not my taste at all...
