It was a pleasure to meet and talk to Mr.Corea here in Santiago, Chile when he came with the Elektric Band in the early 90's. His music legacy will resonate for all future generations to discover and hopefully explore and be inspired by. Thank you for the amazing music of the best years of our lives. Rest in peace now. Condolences to the family.
Thank you, Scott Goldman! You are a thoughtful and engaging interviewer. I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to be "a fly on the wall" for this conversation...
I noticed that when Chick sings the first few notes of 'Autumn Leaves' (around 10 min mark) it's spot on in tune in G minor. Makes me think he had 'Perfect Pitch'. Just an observation! R.I.P. Chick!
I had the fortune of seeing Chick Corea last March, at the Paris Philharmonic, it was just before lockdown and may well have been his last concert, anyone? I popped a short clip of his waving goodbye on Twitter @roiroux I’ve been a fan since I first saw him playing the Romantic Warrior on British TV in 1976. Like part of our lives, someone we knew. And it was on British news I heard the headline announcing his passing. I still can’t believe it. Great interview! There’s so much still to discover about him. RIP. May he Return to Forever.
I saw him play piano at a small community college in '99 with Gary Burton on xylophone. Chick opened up the top of the piano and started playing it by pulling the strings which I had never seen nor heard of.
There will never be another time when you can just walk into a basement club and see that many amazing musicians playing, that close up. The decades when jazz/big band was the most popular music is literally a golden age of music and nothing today comes close.
Amazing interview, great questions, great flow. I wanted to hear some words about his interactions with Paco de Lucia but then again I could listen to many more things about his life all day long.
Great interview. Chick Corea was the consummate jazz musician. He left so much behind for future generations to learn and understand about the music. His passing is a great loss to the jazz world.
@@LisaBellaDonnaMusic there is not really much cross polarisation between genres. To me it’s the most natural thing in the world that Chick would love Glenn, and possibly vice versa. Nice to find a kindred spirit :)
I'll admit: you want to punch Scott Goldman as looking like every hipster douche guy you've met in your local jazz venue who ONLY knows Love Supreme and Kind of Blue, but he asked every question I would have, and a few I hadn't thought of.
18:55 - Chick says that Art Tatum is next to Glenn Gould as his favorite pianist! Wow... and this interviewer has absolutely no idea what that might mean.
The interviewer was doing great up until the end of Chick’s discussion of Art Tatum. Chick said Tatum was his favorite pianist “next to Glenn Gould.” What an opportunity for a great follow up question. It would have been most interesting to hear Chick talk about Gould. And it’s kind of charming to hear a little bit of a New England accent in the way he speaks.
I know! This is the problem with most interviewers, in every genre. They are only interested in their own niche area rather than the bigger picture. To me, musicians like Chick and Glenn are closer in spirit to each other than they are to other musicians form their respective genres no matter how great. Both are bigger than the characterisation of their music. I got so excited when he mentioned Glenn and wanted to hear more.
Thx for your friendship and mentorship Chick…you’re the best!!! John Novello

Chick’s music and playing and bands are of the highest order.
Rest well to a scholar and a gentleman. Your music will live on, Armando.
"Friends" remains my favorite Chick Corea album, and that says it all. Thank you, Chick. You made life better for so many people. RIP!
Thank you chick for all you taught me as my teacher as a 16 yo over 50 years ago
A couple of weeks later, it’s still hard to believe he’s gone forever.
Yes
he returned to forever
I know, it's heartbreaking.
He just moved up the bridge.

Don’t know if he met LRH in his afterlife but man Chick was incredible. What an artist in the purest sense he was. Icon ❤

Priceless information about foundation laying, ground breaking jazz geniuses.
Totally priceless
Chick Corea was simply a musical genius!
Chick brought eternal joy to the world and will be dearly missed!
R.I.P. ARMANDO ANTHONY "CHICK" COREA.
"New Yawk at the Vangawd"... still can't believe he is gone ... seemed forever young!
It makes perfect sense that Miles would show respect for his band members, because a team is only as good as the sum total of its players.
Amazing interview thanks 🙏🏽
I’m so glad I got to see him in person.
Amazing interview, great questions, great flow. I wanted to hear some words about his interactions with Paco de Lucia but then again I could listen to many more things about his life all day long.
I'm so glad I had the privilege to hear and see chick.

You didn't need to use "jazz" in your comment! 🙂
It's still hard to believe he's not with us. The music still is, though.
It’s great to hear some insights from such a dedicated amazing artist.
R.I.P Chick Corea enjoyed your music 🎵🎶
A very comprehensive interview.❤️
RIP chick corea

Brilliant Scott and Chick! Many thanks.
You helped me be in 2 recitals at the tulsa unitarian church.
Thank you. Priceless interview.
Wonderful interview. It's also the first time I heard Chick mention the great Glenn Gould. Goosebumps.
I know right! It made me react out loud.
Makes perfect sense tho. Glenn was an absolute genius. 🖤
@@LisaBellaDonnaMusic And the interviewer doesn’t follow that thread. I could’ve killed him!!! How interesting it would have been.
@@Piratebreadstick True, but I rarely run into musicians or musical lovers who know who Glenn Gould is.

Great interview - I’d just liked to have given at least an acknowledgment to Gayle Moran, his talented wife of many years.
Great interview! Thanks for sharing!
haha the banjo imitation Love it!
Still finding it hard to know he is physically gone. Miss him very much. His art will live forever.
Great Thank You
Awesome thanks again Chick

I am going to need to leave now to go rescue kids dangling 1000 feet in the air as they rode a skyride to school in Islamabad. 1st day of school chaos
Maybe it's in our horoscope

We're you my 3rd piano teacher wver?

I do not agree with god taking this man away so soon !! 🥲
Fred Armisen in disguise got one of his last interviews....
RIP
18:55 - Chick says that Art Tatum is next to Glenn Gould as his favorite pianist! Wow... and this interviewer has absolutely no idea what that might mean.
Sure he does. It means that he admires both Gould and Tatum a lot. Very clear and free of metaphor.
Could you imagine, no rehearsals, simply Miles tellin' you before your FIRST GIG with him: "Just play what you hear"?!!!
Yes. That's the way it's done.
Well, that was Jazz fusion... Can you tell if someone is playing lame in Bitches' Brew?
Mind blowing 🤯
@@Lachenmann7 I dont think every musician was like this but Miles primarily was about no rehearsals since he wanted fresh music.
He did the same thing when Dave Holland joined.
