Great conversation! Thank you, Pablo. It’s great idea to make your guests play the music and not only talk about it. Major enhancement! Greetings from Warsaw👏
Must have rewatched it like 5 times. Would be great if you could get John on again in the near future. Also, very well conducted interview. You give him room to breathe and you ask questions that actual musicians would like to know. Top notch
Thank you for this interview and deep gratitude for Mr. Pattituci's generosity, even showing us his work in progress (and that the maestro himself can struggle with a difficult piece, and that this is what you need to do to continue to develop as a musician!). Fantastic conversation.
John is so very generous with his time, continuing a conversation after he's already stated he must go. I will always remember meeting him once after a CCEB Eye of the Beholder era show; such a personable talent who never made me feel beneath him. I feel richer hearing him expand on his theories and playing styles. You were a very considerate interviewer.
Unbelievable interview. So many nuggets to take away from this one. One remark: john’s piano seems to be tuned to 420 Hz, or something did happen to the audio maybe? Thank you Pablo for this outstanding interview!
Hey Julian, ja seltsamerweise macht Zoom diese De-Tuning manchmal im Nachhinein. Als wir gesprochen haben war es in der richtigen Tonart... Ich werd's nächstes Mal checken bevor wir's veröffentlichen.
Yet another good interview, but it’s somehow a semitone low. When John gives the examples in C major it comes out in B major. I don’t know how that happened and takes nothing from the interview, but the musical examples a therefor a bit hard to follow/transcribe. Thanx again for your great work Pablo.
Thanks Søren! Yeah, that is quite strange. I’ve heard that this sometimes happens with zoom. I think it was definitely in the right key when we talked… hmmm. I’ll check next time!
John is the bass player that makes me realized there is more to a bass player , the music and the choice of notes and I got to see this musician with magical hands live playing beside the legend Chic Corea RIP… I have fused their playing in my music vocabulary I stole a lot from them lol…
Great conversation. May I suggest ron Carter, Sony Rollins and Wayne shorter. Sorry for proposing... but I learn so much with this talks... and those gentlemen have so much to tell us...greetings
Somehow that happened through zoom… I think John’s bass was in the right pitch and I heard it in the right pitch when we talked… and then when zoom exported the video something happened to it. Very mysterious
Thank you very much for this. I love John's work and it was so good to hear his stories about Chick and others.
Thank You so much for this wonderful opportunity to hear from one of the true masters of the Bass. John’s humility is profound 🙏🏻
One of the best interviews ever about jazz!! I had lunch with John in 2016. He is the most humble person ever.
Wow thank you Craig
You have a rare talent; you let the interviewee consider their replies and respect that space, very much like a listening accompanist.@@PabloHeldmusic
Incredible interview! He's so generous with his time and knowledge, and you do a great job as an interviewer!
Great conversation! Thank you, Pablo. It’s great idea to make your guests play the music and not only talk about it. Major enhancement! Greetings from Warsaw👏
Thank you for sharing & bless John for his time. Enjoyed every minute!
Thank you Simon! Glad you enjoyed it
Amazing interview! What an absolutely brilliant musician and great guy, to boot!
JP is so great to listen to and take in what he is saying. Great video!
This is one for the archives. And I want to try building major triads on the dim scale.
Loved every minute of this interview. For me , JP was, is and will be the best and most complete bass player.Thank you.

I noticed this as well. I was playing along with my bass. I was convinced i was going crazy and my tuner was broken :0

Hey! I'd love to talk to all of them. In fact, I already talked with Wayne- Here it is: pabloheld.com/en/investigates/wayne-shorter
super interview papi
Danke!!
What is the name of the choro John mentions and plays at 1:30:07? So beautiful.
Dominguinhos! 👏👏👏🇧🇷
What a treat! Thank you!
Thanks for watching the interview!
Why john tuned his bass a minor second up?
Somehow that happened through zoom… I think John’s bass was in the right pitch and I heard it in the right pitch when we talked… and then when zoom exported the video something happened to it. Very mysterious
Thanks for response!
can someone list the names of the composers that play in odd meters he mentions here: ua-cam.com/video/rqGFTzYv3Mc/v-deo.html ? Thanks.
