    Well, the fuss in your case, is probably about the bike being fitted with the TEC Bike Parts camshaft. From what I have read, this does make a useful torque increase over stock, so not really a fair evaluation of the standard Himalayan. I think I would be pushing it to get a “comfortable” seventy mph out of my standard Euro 5 model.
    Having said that, I’m happy with mine so long as I keep away from the derestricted roads as much as possible. It’s a great one for the back lanes and on roads with a speed limit of 60 or less.

      Hi Mark, I didn't know about the cam on the demo bike until I picked up the Himalayan at the dealer, so this did cross my mind knowing that there would be extra torque and power but for the rest of the ride I could see what else the Himalayan had to offer. I suppose though, it's nice to know there's an upgrade available if the stock performance doesn't suit 😁 Thanks for watching 👍

    Useful video for anyone considering buying a Himalayan. I had a test ride, on and off road, for most of a day, and that was enough to convince me to buy one. I do also have a BMW R1250R for longer rides.

    • @gtube153
      @gtube153  2 роки тому

      Hi Owen, my son owned a Tiger 800XC which I rode on a few occasions and found it more agile than the Tiger 1200 even with the 21" front wheel and easier to manage off-road, probably because of the weight reduction and front wheel size. However, after reading Triumphs definition of off-roading < found on page 5 of your owners manual > I wonder whether any of the Tigers are built for any rougher trails and if its just an image Triumph are selling ? With off-roading becoming more of an interest I've decided to go with something with an off-road focus ... just not sure which bike to replace it with yet 🤔 With that said though, I've ridden Tigers for nearly eight years and thousands of miles on them enjoying every memory they've given me 😁 Thanks for watching 👍

      @@gtube153 I had a 2015 Tiger 800XCx and rode it for 40 ,000Km throughout OZ including some long distance outback trails. I liked the WP suspension, good steering and versatile motor, electronic rider modes and cruise control. What I didn't like?
      1) 225Kg + weight / feels like it is up high
      2) crap stock windscreen
      3) cumbersome to move around by hand in the garage
      4) almost impossible to put it on the centre stand
      5) fragile ABS plastics
      6) Air box access poor/ need to use prefilters when on dirt ( Unifllter)
      7) foot pegs were so/so
      8) ball bearings in the head stem, not roller bearings!!!
      9) low handlebars and too flat/ forward ( need risers)
      10) electronics under the battery where it gets wet and muddy= shorts out the main fuse.
      11) gear ratios a bit strange/ welded rear subframe ( both changed by Triumph in later models )
      12) front brake could have been a little stronger.
      Triumph said the tiger was for" light off road duties only", and I agree. I did 13,500 Km on back roads on the Tiger in 21 days, and it didn't let me down. In fact it saved my skin on one occasion. It can do it, but it really is designed for secondary roads, not trails.
      I am back riding my ADV modified DRZ400E now, but in wind and highway speeds the lack of weight is not ideal. Hence why I am looking at the Himalayan as a gravel travel bike.

    • @gtube153
      @gtube153  2 роки тому

      Hi Kym Stock, I laughed and totally agreed with point no.4 you made about the centre stand, my Tiger 1200 is easier than the 800 ... Triumph certainly messed up with geometry there 🤔 and I'm amazed that Triumph employed the services of the legend Ricky Carmichael to promote the new Tiger 1200 with all those HUGE jumps he performed and still in the new Tigers handbook it still reads the same " light off-road, no jumping " etc etc ... 🤷‍♂️
      The Himalayan is also on the heavy side at around 200Kg but the centre of gravity is low so feels lighter, not sure what it'll be like off-road as it was a no no no when asked whilst on my test ride but in theory should be ok, there's certainly billions of videos on UA-cam that show this 😁 You've all ready got a great bike with the DRZ ... • @gtube153
      @gtube153  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Rob, nothing was mentioned about the gearing so I'm presuming that was stock, the demo bike would have a couple extra horses and torque ( TEC estimate 20% on stock ) but the rest of the Himalayan was standard and after the ride I was quite happy with regard to the suspension, ergonomics, brakes, comfort etc and agree with most that for the price, you do get a great bike 😁 Thanks for watching 👍

    • @timm4668

      I’m pretty sure M&S haven’t changed the engine sprocket on this demonstrator - just the cam. I changed both cam and gearing on my bike but reverted to original gearing because I still found it too highly geared with the bigger engine sprocket. Increased power and tourque advantage of the Tec cam was lost.

    I first looked at the Interceptor 650,then the Meteor 350 but finally after sitting on a Himalayan I bought one I live a little bit in the country with a lot of rough chip and seal roads and some railroad tracks so I thought it is better suited for the type of riding I will be doing at 65 years of age and not riding for 10 years I'm taking a MSF course soon because I have probably forgot a few things I'm not a speed demon anymore being retired mine is a 2021 Rock Red built in January 2021 it just arrived at the dealership in June they were still putting the finishing touches on it in the shop but it doesn't have the tripper navigation unit could be a early model 2021 before they got things rolling to install them it is a little cold blooded on a cold start need to hold the fuel enrichment lever down a few minutes and let it warm up enough after releasing it so it won't stall but once enough heat is built up in the engine it runs fine without stalling. They are a little popular I saw one in my neighborhood before buying and two others after buying one Just a good all around motorcycle if you prefer not to ride 70 mph for any length of time I can be happy riding 60 Max but I doubt I will need to go faster than that where I plan to ride

    I enjoyed the video and understand what happened in your situation, but rotten tomatoes to the dealer for suppling a modified "test" bike. How can a proper evaluation be done with a bike that has 10-20% more power over a stock one? Also, I know the two bikes have different intended uses, but asking you not to compare it to another motorcycle is a bit shady to me.

    • @gtube153
      @gtube153  3 роки тому

      Hi, I did realise the engine power and torque would be slightly different but the test ride also offered me an insight to the rest of the Himalayan, for example the ergonomics, comfort, brakes, suspension etc I tried to ride the Himalayan on its own merits purely and not compare it to my Tiger which is three times the cost, obviously the Tiger would win. I agree with many other UA-cam videos as far as, for the price of the Himalayan its a great versatile do it all motorcycle 😁 Thanks for watching 👍

  • @titanbum7365
    @titanbum7365 2 роки тому

    You probably don't want to get rid of your Tiger however, if you want to bike year round and off road and trails then you need a Himmy. Himmy's aren't really made for the expressway although they will do 60 comfortably for long distances without the aftermarket cam, with it a bit more. Cheers

    • @gtube153
      @gtube153  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Titanbum 7, I've made the decision to part with the Tiger and opt for a lighter, more off-road focused motorcycle, the task I'm faced with now is deciding which motorcycle is going to be the Tigers replacement 🤔 Thanks for watching 👍

    • @titanbum7365
      @titanbum7365 2 роки тому

      @@gtube153 Good luck with your search. You couldnt go wrong with a Himmy though. They are less expensive (not cheaper) which leaves extra money for the after market add ons to suite your taste. They are also heavier than most other ADV bikes that makes fighting wind or trucker blow by easier than lighter bikes and the 5 speed allows you to crawl over trails and shift less.
      They already have two 650's ( more street type) out but next year they are supposed to come out with a 650 Himmy which is more off road worthy if you can wait. Although the 411 is great especially with the aftermarket cam and has been rode all over the world which tells you how good they are AS LONG AS YOU TAKE CARE OF THEM like anything else you want to last. Speaking of, the maintainence on the Himmy's are very basic and easy to do yourself and with the market expanding at Enfield there are more and more shops carrying them.
      Even die hard long term Harley riders love the Himmy.
      If you haven't already try watching some posts of Itchy Boots as she started with two Himmy's then switched to a 500 honda and this year she is on a 250 Honda. In only 3 years she has put a LOT of miles on bikes riding around the world, literally every continent except North America (USA and Canada which she was forced to abort because of Covid).
      There are lighter bikes like the Honda 250 which if you can handle the fast throttle and bounciness can be good too but the choices are getting more and more varied as even Harley Davidson is getting into ADV.
      So, Id suggest studying and seeing what others say about their bikes and decide for yourself. Also take test rides because the one riding the bike long term is you no matter what others say. Cheers

    This is interesting, the cam upgrade and all. 70mph with a little more to go sounds the same as stock..... Does it make much difference? Is it a bike that requires it?? I don't think so (my opinion). I have a 2018 bs4 model in sleet, bought new, had it 3 years now and 1000's of miles. Been on 1000 miles trips to wales/devon/Cornwall etc. Kept her stock, sits on the motorway at 70/75 all day long fully loaded, climbed any mountain pass I've thrown at her with ease, 80-85 mpg. She has aged very well (i do acf 50 once a year) shes kept outside in a seaside town. Shes an absolute mule and i love it, and never, not once NEEDED more power! Had a kawasaki versys 650 for that but that has long gone as didnt ride it in the end, hurt my shoulders. Cheers.

    • @gtube153
      @gtube153  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Dan, I remember reaching 80 MPH and I think there was probably a little more to be had but as we all know the Himalayan was never built for speed. I haven't ridden a stock Himalayan yet so I don't know if it makes much difference but TEC report a 20% increase. If I were to buy a Himalayan, I too would leave it stock until such a time that I needed to replace any parts then probably consider third party aftermarket upgrades ... Thanks for watching 👍

    Nice Instant Video. Very Likeable Bike Is The Little Himmy. Just A Note Though. If As The Bike Shop Says This Demonstrator Has The Tec Cam Added. I Think That Might Cost An Extra £200 Squid & It Does Increase The Power From The Stock 24.3 Horses To 28.5 HP.
    That's The Theory As Per A Tec , U Tube Video I Have Seen.
    So A Traditional Himalayan May Be More Of A Mule Performance Wise To This Super Mule !!

    • @gtube153
      @gtube153  3 роки тому

      Hi Bill, I only had an hour for the test ride and not sure if there were any green lanes locally 🤔 I got the impression off-roading was a no-no during test rides anyhow 🤷‍♂️ Thanks for watching 👍

    Nice video, particularly how the bike coped on the faster roads. Much as I like to bimble around on minor roads, sometimes I need to use dual carriage ways too.

      Hi Twotter, the Himalayan was quite happy sitting at 70 MPH and felt steady, there's also a few extra MPH in reserve for overtaking 😁 Thanks for watching 👍

      During the pandemic I have been riding around little back roads on a Honda CB250; purely as entertainment and a get-out-of-lock-down. Having read your comment I realise that what I have been doing is Bimbling around. A great word; British but not heard in Australia.

    If it's a Himalayan , test it on a mountain.
