The backing is also with taste, leaving plenty of room for the vocals to stand out. Nowadays the singers struggle over the DJ producer created mass of sounds which feels desperate to fill everything with stimulation, ending up losing details to mass.
The wonderful Philly sound...everybody loved the Stylistics, Blue Magic and more. The lead singer, Russell Thompkins, Jr. sang in falsetto, which was popular back in the day. Glad you enjoyed it!
Just joined your channel this very moment. I love that song it's way before my time.but like most people my late mother would play this a lot as I was growing up. Looking forward to more. Stay safe everyone. Ayse from the UK bless. 😀😀💙
Music making became accessible to just about anyone. You no longer needed to know how to sing or how to play instruments. It's become more and more about looks and lifestyle than music.
When I was 16 (1975) the local radio station played an hour of the Stylistics every night at the same time. My boyfriend and I couldn't talk much on the phone, because we were on a party line and people could just listen in, or come on and yell at us to stop tying up the line. So we'd listen to a couple of songs and then call up and talk for a bit, then listen to a couple more. This was one of our absolute favorites.
From the Fall of '74 ----------I had just turned 28 y/o. All-time classic from Thom Bell & Linda Creed. ---------that's Arrion Love on 1st lead, Russell Thomkins jr on 2nd lead.
Dude, there were so many love songs back then..A lot to fall in love to, and also, a lot to breaks hearts with..It was a sweet time for music lovers...The young folks, who are reacting to all these old tunes need to do a lot more of this genre, as well.
Older music, real music to the people who lived through the times mostly regarded music as an "Art" and not a business. Music after 1997 sounds like a production line factory of "music" with the odd gem thrown in. I think with Queen being played so much younger people are starting to realize new is not actually better. Today music is totally business first with the talent and quality of the music secondary. That's my opinion and yours may differ.
you're right about the style being different. I would go so far as to say that the older music benefitted society , whereas much of the modern music is detrimental to society.
Beautiful song. You (and your mom!) would probably like the Spinners, too. I recommend the Spinners' "Could It Be I'm Falling in Love" from 1972 from their appearance on "Soul Train."
I LOVE this song! Love their sound. So romantic. 💕 I wish there were more groups like them now days. Wish we get back to beautiful music. These guys are timeless.
So many iconic songs by them. Just thinking about "You are everything" literally gave me goose bumps - on my legs. 70s Brothers were transcendent - like Prince. I guarantee u Prince was influenced by the Stylistics. Wow.
That's a beautiful song! Yes, I've definitely heard this before. It's sad that we don't have these types of songs,, today. I don't understand how everything went so wrong, with the music industry. People need to stop buying it, but..maybe that's what the kids of today want.
You’re right about the music of today versus yesterday. I’ve noticed though that there are now a lot of young people doing reaction videos and they’re listening to the older music. That really does my heart good to see that. ❤️
Yesterday's songs were about the emotions. Today's songs are about "the act", and not in a respectful way. A coarsening of society and it's view of relationships, sad to say.
Late Highschool early college days right there. Love this song, brings back very nice memories from Freshman year in College. Had dances in the dining hall every Saturday I believe. Had my “special friend” that I was always sooooo happy to be slow dancing with. Great memory.🥰
I feel in love with the stylistic the first time I heard this song when I was 12years old.... Its like having those strong arms holding you around tightly aroung your body.... tenderly
When I first heard this song, I was going to Basic Training in the Army. I was leaving everything behind and didn't know if I would pass this way again, and then Russell Thompkins tore me up with his amazing falsetto voice. Ya'll I thought I was hearing an angel. The greatest falsetto of all time. Of course I made it back or I wouldn't write this down. I'm an old man, but I still have a young heart. But in the end time has it's way with all of us. God bless ya'll. This is your boy from Tennessee! Peace!
I'm 63 now and this song still brings tears to my eyes for its words of shear beauty and what the vocalists bring to it which is just unbeatable. First time i heard it was in '76 on vinyl at my best friends house and still remember it like it was just yesterday, timeless!
The best R&B groups of the 70s. I had every album and learned every lyric of every song and sing along with them they were my go to, and I never got sick of listening
Damn this song makes my eyes water so much meaning. Im glad i was born in the early 90s to understand what real music was thanks to my mom, uncles and aunts always playing these songs when i was just a kid i grew up into loving music like this i got a old soul ☺🙏
Ty, I am 55. THIS band was my first love of music. I've known it my whole life. Later on, I loved Bad Company, then on to AC/DC, Judas Priest and Korn. NO ONE could ever replace my Stylistics - EVER. My 2nd child was born in 1995 & I sang all the Stylistics songs I loved & the Joe Cocker's song "You Are So Beautiful" while I breastfed my son in the mid 1990's. It's SICKENING to see the country we have today... WTF?? Something's not right out there. I search to find "feel good" music & it's nothing but SH*T. 🥺 Keep up on the great music!
This is probably my overall favorite stylistic song back then in the '70s late '60s even but there's another great song I like almost equal to this and it's a song called Stone in Love with You that's my second favorite but very close to the first favorite. Of course they got four or five maybe even six other good songs four really good songs that charted high in the charts I'm sure you probably listen to a couple of them make up to break up and you'll never get to heaven if you break my heart you are everything bet you by golly wow. stylistics was definitely one of my absolute favorite R&B groups they just had some really great music their music was mostly more for slow dancing although I not a very good dancer back then was good at skating but dancing just felt like my feet were glued to the floor. Not like I lacked rhythm because when I was on skates I could Rock to any song that played. How to remember a few times when they played some of these really great stylistic songs at the skating rink they turned the lights down low and they'd have a slow skate most the time they had upbeat music and you were fast skating and doing all kinds of stuff but they turned the lights down probably maybe 8 or 10 times through the night and they'd have a slower song like this one.
the soundtrack to my tween/early teen years. A great period for r&b pop.. Delfonics, Chi-Lites, Spinners, Intruders (I'll Always Love My Mama!) Stylistics, O"Jays, and I could go on and on.. There are people today writing their own stuff and using real instruments and it is up to us to support those artists.
Everyone knew this song , they were playing this song on the radio , school dances don't know about weddings cause I was to young for that...totally agree songs meant something back in the day. You should listen to Lou Rawls... lady love, super smooth love song you'll love his voice...♡
hello, pete from over the pond! we grew up with the stylistic in the early 70s and a lot of motown stuff. this type of American music really enriched our lives and i wouldn`t have change a thing! keep up the good work! and God bless you! and your Family.
This was the jam back there in 1971...I was 17 and this group had so many hits....I loved every song.....I also liked You are everything, song I grinded back then....there is nothing these days that can compare this.....I like your videos and channel. Thanks
Man, I use to hear this song a thousand and thousands before and though I kinda liked it a whole bunch, I have never tisten to the words. Now that I am older, I truly thank you so very much for giving me the chance and the opportunity to do so. I really mean it. This is most definitely one of my new favorite songs forever. The Stylistic were totally, totally "BAD ASS" and I can see why now. They were so Super, Super Fantastic. I'm not kidding man. Once again Sir, I sure do thank you. God bless you. Have a good evening. Adios. PS. People regard "Soul Music" as music that were being played by black musicians because they sounded to "Smooth" and there was a lot of feeling in the song but the lyrics, the words had a lot of meaning behind them. A combination of the both of them just told you why. Rock n' Roll is, and was totally "BAD ASS" but "SOUL MUSIC" and the majority of songs by "MOTOWN" will hardly be second to none. Period!
Honesty, truthfullness, goodness surpasses everything. It's all good. What can I say. A heart, a soul, a want, a need, a desire, go for it. It's all about expressing one'life within to another. Totally, totally cool. That's why they called it, "Soul Music".
I grew up with this type of music, thank you so much for this video. You know what makes me the happiest? The fact that YOU enjoyed it. I have long despaired that the children growing up in these times don't have the wonderful music we had back then. So much of it seems so angry. Music has power and it can lift you up. Thank you again.
When I was a kid in the late 70s, this kind of soul music was just on the radio when we drove between Boston, MA to Philadelphia, PA where my grandfather and relatives lived. I loved the radio back then as it was full of all kinds of genres. Not much to choose from now except public radio and JACK FM maybe.
Just came across this reaction, and it reminded me of the surprise anniversary party we gave my mom and dad. We sung that to them as they arrived in to the banquet hall. I'm 76yrs old and that was a new ballad by the stylistics. My mom and dad raised her brothers and sisters when her mom died from TB. It was a great day. All songs are not always about those that we are in love with.
Their song 'Sing Baby Sing' reminds me of being at the rollerskating rink here in the UK. All the teens would go and there'd be great music. It was loud but fun. I can see and hear it now in my memories.
50sbaby 🙋🏽♀️💯 this is a very special song for many people, especially those of us who have had our hearts 💔 and then you find the ONE , that real ONE meant just for you and realize everything before was just crushes getting you ready for Love ❤️
These groups will never get old!! They were real love songs for real people in love, That made your hearts full love. Not like todays songs that are lot of words, Without the real feelings of love!!! The Stylistics always left your heart full & you hugging your lover!! Thanks for the full heart!!!
An all-time classic, this one was always on the radio here in the UK in the late 1970's/early 1980's-but this is a slowed down version without the heavy production, the original 7 inch cut that got to number 2 here was even better. Simply Red did a great cover of it many years ago.
This was the first song I remembered featuring falsetto vocals. It was instrumental in the second and very successful phase of the Bee Gees sound. It helped them widen their audience to R&B radio listeners.
In the early 70’s there was each culture black , white putting out beautiful music from Motown to Pink Floyd and every thing in between. I can sense the frustration on the renisonce man with that moan knowing that newer is definitely NOT better.
You asked... I was falling in love with an absolutely amazing man. He was real, sincere, caring, funny but serious about life and people. I can honestly say that I have never met a man like him since. We all have regrets and he is mine. I had walked away, I was young and ignorant. Can't believe I'm sharing this. So... This song is beautiful. I love "my music". The 60's and 70's are IMHO still the best. I mostly play this and if I'm not singing or dancing to them then I am crying through many of them.
Please, please listen to "Telephone Line" by Electric Light Orchestra (ELO)! It came out in 1977. ELO was fronted by Jeff Lynne, who wrote and produced ALL of their songs and albums. They were pioneers of "progressive rock" and combined Beatlesque pop, rock and classical music. They were the only rock band to actually have two cellos and a violinist as part of the band. Jeff also produced and co-wrote albums for Tom Petty, George Harrison and Roy Orbison to name just a few. He produced two songs on the "Beatles Anthology" album and was a member of the "Traveling Wilbury's" along with the aforementioned Petty, Harrison, Orbison and Bob Dylan.
I grew up in River Rouge, MI just south of Detroit. Loved Smokey Robinson and all of Motown. The Stylistics were from Philadelphia and I loved them. When these songs were on the radio, we were riding around drinking Ripple and having so much fun!! Betcha By Golly Wow was my husband’s and my song when we were dating. We saw the Stylistics at the Fox Theatre in Detroit like 3 or 4 different times. I also saw Smokey, the Temptations, and the Four Tops. Their music is just GREAT!! ❤️🎵
Oh! What a lovely song! My Dad, may he rest in peace, liked this song very much. He had an 8-track tape player in his car and had several Stylistics tunes but this was his favorite. He used to play this while he was driving me to school. I miss my Dad...
My senior prom, may 31,1974 man, what a night,18 years old off to college, my fro was tight that night a red 67 chevy, hard to believe it's been 46 years, feel blessed to share with my grandkids the memories,it makes them laugh looking at the old photos of me and my wife being young doing that time, you remind me of my son keep what you doing
Senior in high school in 1974. Slow jam for ALL parties. Was a number 1 song, but was equaled by the Stylistics earlier output, such as "You Are Everything", "Stop, Look, Listen" and others. Used the patented 'call and response' vocal method, which in the early to mid 70's meant somebody to sing the "boy" (baritone, low tenor), and "girl" (high tenor, falsetto) parts. As you might imagine this song was a favorite for high school and college vocal groups to copy if you could find somebody to sing falsetto. Of course, you could use a female as well in a song duo. Like this? Try listening to any output by Blue Magic. Further, this song was produced out of Phillip by Thom Bell's production house. Google that and be impressed by their song output. When you compliment the writing, understand that you are complimenting many years of hard work and educating of musical theory to these writers and producers and performers. No computer to write their music for them. They wrote this stuff out long hand, bar after bar after bar. They played ACTUAL INSTRUMENTS, and they wrote their vocal arrangements tracking various instruments. In short, these are grown-assed people doing this stuff. That's why it sounds like it sounds.
Thank you thank you thank you for not stopping every second to voice your opinion and just listening, slow vibbin enjoying the song, refreshing to watch. I did notice you thinking I’ve heard this before but not this original take a look at simple red’s version it’s good.
These guys can sing. When real music had meaning. They had so many hits. Good selection TY. Your my favorite. You always have good music. Keep up the great job.
This song was from the late spring-early summer of 1974. I was in the 7th grade then. And I can tell you that this song aged beautifully. I also had a feeling back then that it would.
When I was in 7th grade, I asked for a tape recorder for Christmas so that I could record my favorite music from the radio. This song was one of them!! Loved The Stylistics!!! 😊💕
These were singers and entertainers. This was one of my favorite songs when I was in college and I danced to it at the house parties after the football or basketball games in the "70s.
My mom listened to an oldies radio station in NYC (101.1 CBSFM) and when I was growing up that's the station we ALWAYS listened to. I remember hearing this song while out shopping for groceries with my mom and so I always associate this song with that time and place...and even summer or early fall as it was warm out when we went grocery shopping that specific time.
First off....the Stylistics were stylin'!!! And 2nd, yes...we did a lot of slow dancing to this at Jr Hi & Hi School dances...& at the skating rink. ;))
Soulful! Man, I haven't heard this one since ... I don't when! A good one! 👍🏻❤️‼️. Don't even remember what I was doing when I first heard this. Probably gallivanting around somewhere.
When it was hot, I would sleep on the floor of my parents bedroom because they would have the a/c on and I remember waking up to this song when I was a kid growing up, about to get ready for school. The music back then was sung with great meaning!
Love!!! Beautiful!!! 💞💞💞 I actually danced on stage with the 4 tops...it was AWESOME!!! ☺ Whats not to love with this music?! Soooo many great groups back then and finer than frogs hair!!! Lol
I truly appreciate your reaction videos-I like that your channel is not just about music although I LOVE many genres of music. Be blessed my friend and keep it coming.
There's such an incredible backstory to this song. The writers are Tom bell, a black composer piano player, and Linda Creed a white Jewish woman who's a lyricist. To make a long story short Linda wrote this song about her songwriter partner tom. It was basically an appreciation for all the good things they had accomplished when he joined her or rather she join him as being songwriters, and all the special things that happened in her life. Such a beautiful story depicted for one songwriter talking about their partner.
Oh yeah, this was big in the 70s, loved them. It also became known to our younger generation when it was a recurring song on the tv show "The Wonder Years" when the young boy Kevin would see his love Winnie he'd hear it in his head (and heart). It was his song for how he felt about her.
This song is a standard. It is classy. Most so-called popular music of today falls below the status of real meaningful and beautiful singing. These guys knew how to sing. They didn't show arrogance. They show style and grace.
We who grew up in the 70s lived in a time when literal musical gods made music that transcended trends and fashion. We were incredibly fortunate to grow up in a time when the music that you heard on the radio or played on your stereo truly meant something and touched your heart! Timeless art!
Otis Redding singing Try a little Tenderness and I've been loving you much too long are great songs too. Takes me back to my Youth Club days at St.Lukes hall in Rochester Kent England. Fun times and great memories. 😊
House parties in the 70's, slow-dancing to this on the regular, it was the best of times.....
They don't make music like this anymore
The Stylistics had a ton of hits like this. And they all were primarily written by Thom Bell and the late lyricist Linda Creed.
OMG WHEN BLACK MEN SANG GREAT TIMES I WOULDN'T HAVE MISSED THIS ERA FOR THE WORLD, THIS IS WHEN MUSIC WAS MAGIC.
Fab song, fab band, fab time for music
They sounded great because they had talent! No autotune just pure talent.
@@carollandrum9223 indeed.
Remember Eddie Hollman..'Hey there lonely girl'
I only regret I can thumb up this comment only once!
That's why we won't let real music die. Us ol farts keep it going and rock on.
LOL!!!! RIGHT..
Oh yes we will
Yes rap is crap
Great selection MRM. Back when the singing was about the song. Nothing pretentious or self-endulgent. So smooth.
The backing is also with taste, leaving plenty of room for the vocals to stand out. Nowadays the singers struggle over the DJ producer created mass of sounds which feels desperate to fill everything with stimulation, ending up losing details to mass.
Wanna like this a zillion times. Mid-1950s till about 1993: Old school artists laid down the tightest harmonies of all time. Stop playin'.
Just listen to that melody. Gorgeous.
Music from back when we thought we could make the world a better place. What the Hell happened?
Mainstream music has lost true romance. We are forgetting that making love is far better than having sex.
Veey well said
We are fixing to do over the 60’s and we need to teach!
45 happened !🤬
@@selkiepeople3722 I think you're right.

the 70s R&B was such a great era ..i love their first album ''the Stylistics '' it is in my playlist my favorite song on it is ''You are Everything''
I have their greatest hits
It was absolute magic, The Stylistics were the smoothest of them all. It’s universal cuz it was all about love.

Honesty, truthfullness, goodness surpasses everything. It's all good. What can I say. A heart, a soul, a want, a need, a desire, go for it. It's all about expressing one'life within to another. Totally, totally cool. That's why they called it, "Soul Music".
💜💜💜💜💜💜 this song!
All songs are not always about those that we are in love with.
only remember this from skating rink on friday nights. still a good one
Their song 'Sing Baby Sing' reminds me of being at the rollerskating rink here in the UK. All the teens would go and there'd be great music. It was loud but fun. I can see and hear it now in my memories.
Puts me in tears every time thinking about a special loved one.
50sbaby 🙋🏽♀️💯 this is a very special song for many people, especially those of us who have had our hearts 💔 and then you find the ONE , that real ONE meant just for you and realize everything before was just crushes getting you ready for Love ❤️
Love "The Stylistics"! Another great song to check out is "The Bells" by "The Originals" from "Soul Train".
Mick Hucknall of Simply Red is of our generation, and he and the band did the song justice.
MRM, you just said it all, back then, music meant something! I know, like a lot of you, I was there!
Exactly the music then meant something
Great song
Love your Do.
If I may suggest your reaction on a rare find of Gregory Hines singing with Luther Vandross "There's nothing better than Love"
Pure Music... I fell in love when i first heard it.
The 70's!!! Great decade.
Love!!! Beautiful!!! 💞💞💞
I actually danced on stage with the 4 tops...it was AWESOME!!! ☺ Whats not to love with this music?! Soooo many great groups back then and finer than frogs hair!!! Lol
No video in 1974 , who else though the second verse was a female voice. A classic for sure.
This was when singing was the thing there were so many great group like these, great singers great songs so sad those days are gone.
Yes, I was around with this song and danced to it many a time....for me...part of the American Playbook
