- Levy (1861-1935) was a brazilian pianist and composer. The eldest son of the French clarinetist Henrique Luís Levy, founder of the musical establishment Casa Levy, and brother of the renowned composer Alexandre Levy, he started playing the piano at an early age, performing in public at the age of nine at Teatro São José. concert player, playing pieces by classical composers, as a soloist and accompanied by his brother in four-hand concerts. He was also part of trios and quintets, participating in concerts promoted by Clube Haydn, a musical society he founded in 1883. He composed dance pieces, among other genres, edited at Casa Levy, whose management he assumed at the age of 30, with Maurício, his brother youngest. The publisher, which came to be called L. Levy & Irmão, was responsible for editing musical pieces by numerous authors. Luiz actively participated in the diffusion process of new Brazilian repertoire for chamber music. Among his vast repertoire are several dances, the 1st Brazilian Rhapsody (dedicated to Leopoldo Miguez) and the 2nd Brazilian Rhapsody (dedicated to Guiomar Novaes).
The style of this piece does remind me quite a bit of Rebikov's music and his valse lente's.

Many of the pieces that you upload to your Channel are completely unknown to me, although very beautiful.
I sincerely thank you for your work.
Thank you very much my friend 🎹🎹
I listened to the just the first bar/measure and stopped. "'I'm sold." The clarity of expression, aaaah.
Thank you very much for your videos! Your work is different because you show good music that is not known in the classic piano repertoire.
❤️Thanks
Sounds like Rebikov!!
Thank you for your precious gift to my soul. From Chile.
I'm attracted to this type of music. It has genuine character.
Merci, thanks a lot for sharing those incredible art peaces.
Another wow. It is one of my thrilling expectations in the morning thinking what he's going to present today. It 's like finding a hidden jewel from nowhere. THANK YOU!!
Thanks for shedding light on composers mostly unknown to the rest of the world. By you doing this you really broadened my understanding of music.
Cool! No problem
Wow I'm in love with this piece
Beautiful, a bit more "salonesque" than Rebikov, but very similar indeed.. Any composer who dedicates a composition to Guiomar Novaes has my heart. You play the most beautiful Rallentandi by the way ❤️
Saudade in classical fashion ..... Nice job
Viva o Brasil!!!!! Thank you for playing Luiz Levy!!!!
Sounds like a variation on Rebikov's Chrismas Tree Waltz.
I've never heard of this composer. Thanks for posting his music!
The F-sharp major section is absolutely beautiful.
Brilliant composition and so does brilliantly played. Beautifully brought out the melody line. Best wishes
So so beautifully played and such a beautiful piece.
Thank you for this wonderful piece of music. I've never heard of this composer.
So beautiful!!!
Belíssimo!👏👏👏👏
I thought it was Rubikov at first. Sounded like Christmas tree waltz
Would be interesting to know which one was composed first
Indeed. Not only the theme, but even the middle part sounds the same as in Rebikov's Christmass tree waltz. Who stole from who :-)?
Same.
This isn't a kind of plagiarism but rather a kind of imitation. The rhythm of the first few measures may be identical, but the melodies are different.
Una belleza.
Bravo!!!!
Muito bom, mais compositor brasileiro.
Un valzer molto bello e appassionato
Un vals muy bonito :)
I have just discovered your channel and I am kind of impressed by the huge variety of unknown composers it has. It is very hard to discover new composers as the algorithms (UA-cam and others) often recommend overviewed pieces. Im glad to have found you !
Linda demais!Obrigada!🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Brazilian kudos!
Divine🙏🙏🙏
😭 so touching ...love the melody, remind me to piano duet from Moritz Moskowski Spanish dance no 2
🤩 WOW what a coincidence… I just listened to this composer’s Sentimental on Instituto piano 🎹 channel and liked it very much ; now you’re adding so much more …
❤❤❤👏👏👏💐💐🙏🙏🙏
thank you so much
Un deleite escuchar esta música!
This is so excellent! 3:12 oh yes, had been waiting for this part in F# major 🤩🤩
So beautiful (ho yes f-sharp minor 😂💚)
I found the sheet music on imslp and I am playing this waltz now. Charming piece! Having great fun with it. 😊
Delizioso!
Magnificent...
I'm just wondering: did composer know about russian composer A. Rebikov? Because this Waltz sounds like waltz from opera-tale "Pine" ("Yolka" on Russian). Listen both of them.
Absolutely
yes, that was my immediate impression as well. I know it as the 'Christmas tree Waltz' op.21
Gorgeous ❤
Belíssima!❤❤❤❤
Gorgeous as usual.
Reicht und gut schattiert
Oh that modulation from f# maj to f# min at da capo part, sexy :D
Love everything you upload!! Such graceful playing, by the way! ❤🎶 Would you be so kind as to share where we can find sheet music for these gems? I have only found one, and for that I had to dig deep.

Wow. Never heard of
❤️❤️🎶🎶
The imagniary is very close to the works of Rebikov!
Is it possible to print notes.
Stupendo, mi piacerebbe chiedere su quale tastiera registri?
💕👏👏👏👍🎶🎶🎶🎼🎵
Thanks for the beautiful playing. In my opinion it would be even nicer if it went slightly faster. ❤
Why does this sounds so familiar?
It is nice but a bit too much Rebikov. 😉
I have to laugh - after listening to the first couple of bars of the music, I was wondering if Levy was copying the Ribikoff waltz, or vice versa!! Then in your write up you mention that you noticed it as well. So perhaps Ribikoff, who claimed that Debussy and Scriabin were copying his music, was wrong in thier cases, but maybe he was right in Levy’s!!😊
Rebikov vibes UwU

Do you have Spotify? Why you don't make an album on Spotify?
Wow, did he rip off Rebikov's Christmas tree waltz? Rebikov's waltz was published in 1900. Do we know the date for this piece?
ciao:-) where can you find the piano sheet music? thank you!
it's free on a website called imslp
IMSLP
@@amandac2683 grazie:-) thank you:-)
На imslp.org есть. ;-)
I wonder whether the affiliation with Revikov comes from their common culture, both Levy and Revikov were Jewish. I am not Jewish but I have always thought that there is a “musical gene” in the Jewish people, there have been and are many Jewish world class composers and performers.
uh...litterally rebikov lmao
