As we stray from John Field, Frederic Chopin and JeanHenri Ravina we discover gems strewn across the transitional divide between the classical era and the piano based singer-songwriter era to follow half a century or so later. There is no doubt classical music in Europe (for want of a better descriptor) culminated to a peak that laid unshakable foundations for future ballads by numerous later to be called artists of the 1940s onward and beyond even now. From a social point of view what a luxurious lifestyle it must’ve been to frequent small and medium-sized classical gatherings between the early 1800s and early 1900s. The foundations for what we know as modern music would be diligently, Studiously and passionately laid by a basket full of composers learning , evolving and building off that which had come up to 200 years before. I 100% appreciate finding these lesser-known/lesser celebrated composers from an era in which they were holding their own.🙏🏽

Thank you so much for uploading an unknown composer, glad to have found her music! Beautiful piece, and lovely rendition! Btw, I found her life dates on the music archive online and it said she lived 1850-1910...not sure how accurate this is though...
I'll be honest, I've listened to this dozens of times now and only just realised this is your recording! Fantastic work. Shame there's very little info online about the composer.
It looks like the piece Fleur aimée valse de salon op. 20 was published in 1882 and Mrs Chasselon probably didn't compose it at 11 years old. My guess would be that she's way older than 1873 then. It's a shame we can't get much information about her but it might lead somewhere to contact Wise Music Group though, as they currently own the Heugel Editions which published most of her works.
So in regards to her life dates, it should be noted that it says (fl. 1873-1906), and the “fl.” is important. It means she “flourished” during that time, meaning that the first date is not her year of birth, but possibly the year of her earliest known piece, which seems to be this one.
Wot's this then! :) She was an organist as well? Deux cantiques à Notre-Dame des Vertus (de Ligny en Barrois, Meuse) : avec accompagnement d'orgue ou de piano Author: Mélanie Chasselon; Marie Cuquenelle ... Also, very nice and moody.
