      Simple 2-5-1.... proceeds to use a G7b9#5...
      Look I understand the functionality of a 7b9 chord but who is playing a 7b9#5 when they are starting to learn improv over a 251? Nobody looks at a G and thinks to add a D# when they are first starting...
      Chord substitutions and leading tones through extensions is pretty advanced. Let alone to flow through arpeggios across the neck that fast...

  • @depshallburn
    @depshallburn Рік тому +6

    I keep pasting this to explain to many commenters so I may as well leave it as a comment as a whole:
    Linearly is focusing on melodies you can develop from scale lines, like 2nps or 3nps, while intervallically is as the name suggests, via intervals from the roots.
    Essentially it's the same concept as notes on scales are made of intervals relative to the root, but the notes are just organized differently, where the linear approach has notes that fit together on lines like C D E, B D C, or E B C, but intervallically you can incorporate bigger gaps (aka intervals) between notes, like C G E (where G is the interval known as the fifth from the root C and E is the third from C).
    Essentially it's about the awareness you have as you improvise and I'd suggest learning the intervals as you learn your scales/modes.

    You need to break it down better. Show the scales for each chord change and how each note relates to the chord. If there's dissonance explain it. Explain how the scale will relate to a melody. This is not something you can do a 20 second video of unless it's well planned for the lowest common denominator.
