I’m laying here in my hospital bed watching and listening. Friday was the worst day of my life, but I received the greatest gift. I agree. I love to sing along to this song (whenever it is done well) but honestly I cannot get past that line without losing my voice from choking back tears! Such a powerful, worshipful song.
David Phelps is said by many to be the greatest male vocalist in the world. He draws you in no matter what he sings. There was actually a video of all the great well known male opera singers and David Phelps singing O Holy Night to determine who hit the highest note. None of them could touch David's C#5. You guys really need to check out his version of Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing!" He did it in the same octave and key as Whitney and leaves you speechless. No one has better voice control than David Phelps.

If Phelps had chosen a secular music career...no doubt he'd have made millions. But as a Christian, he chose to stay in the Christian music lane, (with only a few exceptions), & glorify the Almighty God with the voice given to him by his Creator!! No doubt, Phelps will be leading angelic choirs after he's gone from this earth. Phelps has so many ASTOUNDING renditions of Christian & Patriotic songs in his catalog. I was stunned, the first time I heard him almost 20 years ago. And as you see, this was a LIVE recording...he pulls it off...some artists can only make this good of a recording when they get multiple tries & takes in a studio. His breath control, power, & phrasing is off the charts. I'm so glad David has a new fan in you.

I went to school with David Phelps back in the 80's. He was very talented even back then. His success comes as no surprise. God has blessed him with that amazing voice!
David Phelps' *Oh Holy Night* is definitely the best. Coincidentally, I just returned home from visiting my folks in the country for Christmas and my mom and I listened to lots of The Gaither's gospel music including David Phelps, and one of my Christmas presents to my mom was a David Phelps DVD, so we are well-versed in all things "Gaithers and David Phelps"!!!!! :) I am also soooo proud to say that David Phelps is from my state of Texas, specifically, Tomball, Texas, which is just right up highway 249 from me, not more than 10 miles. He is the BEST!!!! So glad you both reviewed this song!!! EDIT: I also want to wish you both a "Merry Christmas Season". Did you know that Christmas actually lasts all the way through "The Epiphany"? which is January 7th. It does! :)
Check out a few more of his songs -- "No More Night," "End of the Beginning," "Let Freedom Ring," ... and a host of others. I have heard David Phelps several times in OKC and Tulsa. Another good Christmas type song would be to listen to Mark Lowry and Voctave singing "Mary, Did You Know."

Oh I'm SO glad you took recommendations and are reacting to this one. David Phelps is one of THE consummate tenors around. This version is one of my absolute favorites! Enjoy!
Bill and Gloria Gaither organized these Gaither Homecomming Concert Videos. They gathered many southern gospel singers and groups for these shows that toured venues all overvthe World. This one was a Christmas Special in the year 2000, 23 years before this reaction video. It's one of the most reacted to Christmas videos ever. David has made m any videos for them, with the Gaither Vocal Band and now does his own show from a barn on his property that he converted into a concert and recording hall. His voice is still maybe the greatest male tenor voices in the World. His main genre is Contemporary Christian Music but he also sings some classical, opera and covers a number of other artists songs. Check out his cover of Whitney Houston's "I HAVE NOTHING", the Righteous Brother's "UNCHAINED MELODY" and has done duets with his daughter Maggie Beth Phelps, "WATER","AGNUS DEI", "THE PRAYER" with Lauren Tally( although the video shows pictures of Celine Deon, "I've Just Seen Jesus" with Lana Hanrahan and " Magic Carpet Ride" with Sandi Patti
So essentially, Bill and Gloria started these large ensemble shows that showcased various gospel singers. These were my grandma’s favorite thing to watch and when she got sick I must’ve watched every single one with her about a dozen times. My personal favorite performance is Mark Lowry doing Mary Did You Know.
Many have beautifully performed this song, but none with the feeling and passion that completely pulls you in like David Phelps. Other songs you might like are No More Night or I Have Nothing. Merry Christmas to you both.
My son was born on November 30th 1992. When, I would sit and rock when, I nursed him, I would sing O Holy Night to him. So, everytime, I hear this song it always brings a tear to my eyes. David Phelps is hands down one of the greatest gospel singers of all time.
Everyone behind his is professional southern gospel singers....Bill and Gloria started bringing them all together in the late 90s to sing....Bill has his own group called the Gaither Vocal Band. He always highlights the best singers in the industry...David was easily a big STAND OUT.....big.....He found maybe the greatest tenor on the plant....U havent heard anything yet...He is unworldly.
David Phelps is an amazing talent, one of the best pure voices out there today! He primarily does gospel music and was discovered by Bill and Gloria gaither back in the early 90's I wanna say. He sang with their group The Gaither Vocal Band for awhile before going out on his own and still sings to this day. All the people you see in the background and who join in with him towards the end of the song are part of what is called Gaither Homecoming. The Gaithers did many of these, not sure if they still do or not but basically would gather several people in the gospel music industry together and have a song fest. Lots of phenomenal talent in these videos and inspirational. I grew up listening to southern gospel music, the quartets and was introduced to the Gaither series by extended family in the early 90's. Now, my taste in music has greatly evolved since then but I still enjoy the sounds of the four part harmonies now and again! Thanks for the great reaction and Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family!!
David Phelps is a music ( voice) graduate from Baylor University in Texas. He was begged by his professors to sing opera but David said no, he wanted to sing Gospel and he has brought more than one roof down with his amazing voice. Thank you for listening to David's version of this beautiful old song.
If you can honestly say you felt nothing listening to this (I've seen a few of the comments) then you are not human. This man pours every ounce of emotion into every note that comes out of his mouth. Yes he is a Christian artist. He is still phenomenal and this is one of the best versions of this song I have ever heard. I showed this to a former coworker a couple of weeks ago and she literally cried. She is not a person who cries easily. I am not a practicing Christian and yet it moves me every time I watch it.
Best carol. Love David Phelps. BTW, the incredible piano player is Anthony Burger, long time player for the Gaithers. Brilliant. Merry Christmas to all in the Rob Squad!!!
what you don't know about Bill and Gloria Gaither is that the audience there are just as talented. The homecoming band includes the who's who of Gospel music. The pianist has won many awards and has the Burger Award named for him. The guy behind him with dark hair is Russ Taff, another beautiful voice. Everyone behind him is famous in their own right. Mark Lowry was with the homecoming group for many years. He's the one who wrote "Mary Have You Heard". You should look into them sometime.
Merry Christmas, Jay and Amber. David Phelps is one of gospel’s greatest singers. Everyone in the Gaither Vocal Band is a tremendous solo singer. Several mentioned Mark Lowry in this video. He not only wrote “Mary, Did You Know?”, but I believe he along with the Gaither Vocal Band sing the best version of it.
Bill and Gloria Gaither are song writers ...about 30 years ago they started bringing Southern Gospel Singers together for "Homecoming" concerts ... hence, the heading Bill & Gloria Gaither f/David Phelps. David graduated from Baylor University with a degree in Opera. His prof wanted him to go into opera, but he preferred to enter the gospel music field. He also sang with The Gaither Vocal Band ... check out "Let Freedom Ring", Carnegie Hall after 9/11.

Btw I already named at least 10 people I think sang Oh Holy Night better and I can also inform you Zhou Shen is also a much much better singer than Phelps is.

@@reddragonready I feel sorry for you...
David is a FANTASTIC vocalist!! He is based in gospel singing but has dabbled in various genres; all of which can be found on UA-cam if you search his name. Bill and Gloria Gaither were the two that organized the event; they are Pioneers in Southern Gospel music and have put together many events that feature various recording artists in Southern Gospel (that is the "choir" part you hear). I do find you two very enjoyable to watch and after Amber's comments after the video, I decided to subscribe. Have a very Merry Christmas and special New Year. We do share EDUCATION in common, as I retired due to health reasons after dedicating 28 years to the profession.
I've seen him live, and not only is he an amazing singer, he's a good, humble man. Happy holidays, everyone.
Tears and chills..his rendition is one of my favorites! Bill and Gloria Gaither are the founders of this group. Many different singers involved with them. Guy Penrod also has an awesome voice (Then Came The Morning). ❤ Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family J and Amber!❤🎄🎅
The absolute best!! Thank y’all for this awesome reaction.
We told y’all! It is the pure anointing of God in this performance. He’s done it other times, but there’s something special about this one! I suggest listening to another one when he was with the Gaither Vocal Band, “Let Freedom Ring”. He hits some pretty high notes in that one, too!
It's Christmas morning here in Perth Western Australia and what a way to start the day listening to a beautiful rendition of one of my favourite Christmas song. Merry Christmas to you and your family! 🎄✨️❤️🇦🇺
I've been to Perth; it is a lovely city. 😊 Merry Christmas 🎄❄️❤️
@@honorsilverthorne7227 Thank you it certainly is. A very Merry Christmas to you as well. 🎄☀️❤️🇦🇺
David Phelps was phenomenal
David Phelps, one of the greatest Christian singers ever! Happy Christmas, May your celebration be filled with joy, grace and love! 🎄🎄🎄🎄
This is from a Gaither Homecoming video. The Gaithers are Christian singers, and the Homecomings are concerts with usually a dozen or more Southern Gospel acts. David Phelps used to sing with the Gaither Vocal Band quartet until he went solo. Another member of the GVB was Mark Lowry, who wrote "Mary Did You Know?"
This is a great time to thank you for sharing the love within your family with the rest of us. Your love and positivity has been a real uplifting experience time and time again. Love to all of you.
Definitely the best ever!!!! David has the most amazing voice and he is one of my favorite Gospel singers! Jay and Amber I wish y'all and your babies a very merry Christmas and up coming year! 💜 🎄⛄ 🕊 🛐
Jesus is Lord! God bumps.Absolutely beautiful.Merry Christmas to your family.
David Phelps was part of the Gaither Vocal Band and in my opinion the best tenor out there! Check out David's most high and resonate notes on youtube, you'll be blown away! Thank you for your reaction!
That guy has THE pipes to do this beautiful carol justice. Not everyone does, but he does in spades! Thanks for the gift of this wondrous song for Christmas! Please have you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a great New Year! ✌🇨🇦❄☃️💚❤💚❤🎅🌟🎆🎇✨🎉🎊⭐
I never thought I would hear my all time favorite Christmas sung more beautifully than Josh Groban, but David Phelps might have just topped it!
Absolutely, beautiful! 👏👏👏👏We all one day will fall on our knees before Our Lord! Remember it’s all about Our Savior! Be good to one another. 🙏❤️
Jay and Amber, thank you for the loving message. May you and your family be truly blessed this holiday. Merry Christmas, Everyone! And, don’t forget to make someone smile this holiday. 😊❤️🎄
In all fairness David Phelps is the best tenor on eart.
He is truly special. Incredible command of the voice, the colors, the emotions, everything he does is perfect.
Dang.
That's it.
Just dang.
The teardrops, though.
Celine is fantastic, don't get me wrong, but this is on another level.
Welcome to David Phelps and the Gaither Vocal Band. Merry Christmas
I went to school with David Phelps back in the 80's. He was very talented even back then. His success comes as no surprise. God has blessed him with that amazing voice!
David Phelps powerful voice, singing a great song .That was a great gift to share on Christmas eve God bless you and yours. Thank you
David Phelps' *Oh Holy Night* is definitely the best.
It does! :)
Brought tears to my eyes...beautiful thank u for ur reactions Merry Christmas RS fam
You're hearing God's anointing in his voice.
Thank you! My favorite version, hands down! David Phelps is the man!
The perfect Christmas Carol for Christmas Eve. Beautiful song, emotional joy and a tear jerker. Great reaction. Merry Christmas to all. 🎄🎄🎅🎅 Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️🇨🇦 🇨🇦
Wow! His voice!❤
David Phelps is one of the greatest singers on the planet
Thank you guys, David Phelps is one of my two favorite tenors right now....Austin Brown of Home Free & David Phelps....the two have voices anointed by God !
Oh I'm SO glad you took recommendations and are reacting to this one. David Phelps is one of THE consummate tenors around. This version is one of my absolute favorites! Enjoy!
Everything David Phelps sings is awesome. He is one talented, God fearing man.
David has a beautiful tone to his voice
So essentially, Bill and Gloria started these large ensemble shows that showcased various gospel singers. These were my grandma’s favorite thing to watch and when she got sick I must’ve watched every single one with her about a dozen times. My personal favorite performance is Mark Lowry doing Mary Did You Know.
You'll never get a better version of this song. His voice is unmatched
WOW what a way to end the Christmas reactions!!! Thanks for the Encouragement ☺️ You guys do Rock❤️
Many have beautifully performed this song, but none with the feeling and passion that completely pulls you in like David Phelps. Other songs you might like are No More Night or I Have Nothing. Merry Christmas to you both.
Beautifully done! This has always been my favorite Christmas song. Got goose bumps with David's rendition!
One of my favorite Christmas Carols, God Bless you and yours this joyous season.Merry Christmas Rob Squad
I had never heard of the man, he is incredible. Thanks for choosing to react to this. 🎄
Can you imagine what singing praises to Jesus in heaven will be like!
Amen!!!
I Can Only Imagine
Such a beautiful song, Merry Christmas To all ✝️☮️ !
A heavenly mic drop!
David has such an amazing range… he is the best..
This version is by far one of, if not the best.
He delivered with an exclamation point‼️
It’s been a rough year and your channel has been a blessing. Thank you for what you do and I hope you and yours have a very Merry Christmas!
Thanks for reacting to it. Merry Christmas!
what you don't know about Bill and Gloria Gaither is that the audience there are just as talented.
Wow! Shivers. Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful children. 🥰❤️❤️
Thanks for this Jay and Amber!!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS ROB SQUAD!!!!
That guy probably didn't even need a microphone. What power and control. Excellent.
I LOVE this song. It's the best Christmas song ever, in my opinion. Beautiful. So is his voice.
You need to please check out “No more night”, “End of the beginning”, or “He’s Alive”. David has such a powerful anointed voice.
David Phelps is just maybe the top tenor in the world. He is just amazing..and talented.
IF THERE IS A WORD HIGHER THAN INCREDIBLE, IT WAS THIS.
