As a victim of child abuse and one who made it through the darkest and most horrible time please don't ever apologize for showing true genuine empathy and love for those who don't make it.
I'm actually surprised more people don't figure it out sooner with its name..not being insulting just growing up I only knew the concrere angels in the children's cemetery being on the headstones..
I will tell you a story. My mom reported that this boy Carlos was being abused. CSD went out to the kid's house and investigated. The house was clean and there was lots of food and both parents had good jobs and they decided to leave the kid in the home. My mom reported this again 3 more times and the kid was finally removed. His grades went through the roof and he started playing with a whole different set of kids. This was in the '80s. This kid is now a city council member in our city and trying to get on the school board. All because my mom didn't give up on him.
God Bless your Mom for not giving up on that child! And tell him for me that i hope he gets on the city council broad. Love ❤, Peace ☮ & Prayers🙏 from Alabama, USA 🇺🇸
@@evabartlett4599 He does know that my mom saved him and is very grateful. That was so long ago and they have lost contact with him even though Mom sees him on TV every now and then. She is so proud of him.
We imagine that its always people of lesser means that abuse others. I have witnessed all too often highly narcissitic, self entitled a..holes at the top of society to know that its not true. This evil doesnt know any societal distinction. Its found in all classes, all races, all genders. Its a human failing and your mother is an intelligent person for recognising this fact.
You are right Amber. Teachers, bus drivers, bus aides, etc are considered mandated reporters for Children Protective Services. If you suspect something is going on with a child it is better to say something and be wrong then to remain silent and have there be another concrete angel.
Jay & Amber , I’ve watched a 100 of you’re reactions, and this is my 1st comment, I’m 65 yrs old and I’m crying with you …. I love ❤️ you like family .. Both of you are remarkable human beings, thank you for all you do !!
I'm a 68 year old combat veteran and I am crying from watching this. I've seen horrific things in my life but I can't take it when children are involved. I'm sorry Westsidecritters but how else could I respond after so many months.
“Alyssa Lies” by Jason Michael Carroll...as teachers, it will hit you. It hit me because I see kids at my school every day who are struggling with things we’ll never know about.
As a father, firefighter, and navy vet thank yall from the bottom of my heart for what yall do! I wouldnt be who i am without teachers like yall GOD bless yalls family!!!!!
As a survivor of child abuse this song always makes me feel strong for making through it. No one knew what was going on. After running away, about 2 weeks later this song debuted.
Amber, do not feel bad for pausing the video to get your emotions under control. It is a beautiful and sad song. Both you and J showed how this song effected you and that just proves you are both genuinely good people
I replied to someone a moment ago about the song Independence Day. Martina McBride and Pat Benatar performed the song on Crossroads. I really like that version of the song. The entire concert they did for Crossroads was good.
@@Beachbum1Day Aw, man. Hopefully it was because the house actually needed to be taken down, and not just because the music company needed a prop... I hope your buddy's life has gone well since then.
I cried along with you, Amber. I've heard this song many times and I cry every time. I grew up in the ’70s and neighbors and teachers didn't question why I was quiet. Why I wore long sleeves in summer. I was afraid to speak because nothing I said was right and I didn't know when it would turn physical. But I broke the cycle of abuse with my children. They never question that they are loved to the moon and back. Thank you for sharing your emotion with us.
I'm really sorry you experienced abuse as a child. And I'm so proud of you for breaking the cycle. Your kids are blessed to have you as their Mom. Hugs.
I'm sorry you went through that as well... The sixties and seventies were a different time. My brother and I were abused sexually by my dad and others. We had no one to turn to, and we couldn't escape. Mom didn't believe us, so we had to figure it out on our own at seven and eight years of age. I, too, eventually became a teacher, and I can see "signs" kids display. At first it took great strength to approach, but I'm not afraid anymore. There are so many kids going through this crude abuse in one form or another. Just because one is a teacher does not mean that they have a compassionate heart or are willing to approach a student and take notice of something is off. Some of these teachers may be the only hero these kids ever meet in their lives.
This is literally likely the saddest song in all of popular music history. It's usually at or near the top of any and every list of most tragic ballads. Amber's reaction is completely normal and natural. Thousands, if not millions of people have cried to this song before. But it's not just sad, it's important. Hearing it and absorbing it makes you a better person, a deeper and more empathetic person.
Martina had a niece who’s life went the same as the little girl in t he video. I won’t say the song was written about the niece because I haven’t ever read that. However, if you watch at the end, the grave marker has her nieces name on it. Martina is an amazing artist. Her music has tackled, and through it, put the issue front and center, thereby bring attention to the issue. I am a sped teacher and have been over 30 years…I understand why this is tough
it is her nieces name was also Angela Carter you can actually find the grave online its the same one as in the video you can also find the story behind the song online
@@jenniferniswonger9319 no it is not it is 100% fiction I doubt Martina said that there was never a news of Martias sister murdering her daughter so yea this never happened
I'm glad y'all talked about being teachers. This does happen, hence the reason teachers are trained to look for things like this. Concrete Angel is based on a true story... look at the headstone in the cemetery. 😭. Next song should be Martina's Independence Day. And, yes, she really does sing like this in her concerts
@@GameOn71213 Not exactly. Angela Carter is a fictional child. The story shares some similarities with the story of Judith Barsi. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concrete_Angel
Stephanie Bentley, the woman who wrote the lyrics, said she was inspired to write it after reading an article in the newspaper about a woman who had killed her daughter. So inspired by a true story
I just started following you a couple months ago. I didn't realize you were both teachers. I cried watching this, but a lot of my tears were for Amber. What a sweet, gentle heart you have. Never apologize for loving and caring.
Literally all of Martina McBride will hit ALL your emotions! She's really worth a dive into more of her music. Independence Day, God's Will are good ones too
Baby girl, no apology is necessary. This shows the heart you both have. Thank you both for being who you are. The world is so much better with you 2 and those babies in it. Hugs
@@judeproulx9683 I love her voice but that song hits most people in their "feels" lol. I live in the land of Oz. How abt yourself? You can call me Shurie btw.
I am a 52 yr old biker and this song has brought tears to my eyes since the day it came out. I just cried watching it again. I was a abused child and it is something that never leaves you. I appreciate your channel and all the music that you are discovering. Stay the path and enjoy every emotion that you experience! Much Love and Peace!!!
please remember that we are all survivors. its not easy and you can never forget but you survived and those responsable lost. love prayer and hugs to you
This song brings tears every time. Martina like to champion these causes by using her platform to help be a voice otherwise ignored. "Independence Day" and "Broken Wing" are two others dealing with abuse. She is one of the great ones.
This was my first time hearing or seeing this song. I'm not generally a country fan. This was beautiful. And Amber, I cried along with you. I would have wanted you to be my daughter's teacher - and to be the teacher of my very young grandchildren. You are both amazing. Thank you so very much for this. Tough as it was.
I had never heard that song and I am new here and did not know u guys are teachers. I can't imagine how hard it was for u guys . You guys are so special!
McBride's niece was a victim of child abuse, so this song is a dedication to her. Her niece was abused by her mother, McBride's sister, after she divorced her husband. McBride's sister abused her daughter continuously until one day when McBride's precious niece was killed.
I was one of those children growing up. My father would always take his anger out on me and my sister very badly. I'm a survivor through the grace of God. Everytime I hear this song I burst into tears. This song really hits home for me. Amber don't ever be sorry to express your feelings. It shows you have a kind heart.
PLEASE react to this song! But be forewarned, it will have both of you sobbing uncontrollably. But this issue MUST be publicized thru any available venue.
Honestly this is a heartbreaking song. But anything she does is beautiful. I am going to keep requesting these two songs in honor of my forever 29 Nurse and Daughter a true Angel. First Jm Croce's Time in a bottle and Aerosmith's I Don't want to miss a thing. My Daughter Brandy was Married and Buried to that last song and the first just shows my love for both my Children. Thank you both for all you do

Not sure if you caught the ending of this. The young boy she was talking to was an angel and at the funeral he took her to be with other angel children. I've seen this video so many times since it came out and cry every single time. Thank you for being such caring teachers.
I am 58 years old and this song has always made me cry. Our children are our future and we need to embrace and protect them. You two are amazing. Please keep up your good work.
This song is STILL HARD for me. As a survivor of ALL abuse in the spectrum, this still resonates with me. I survived 27 years of abuse from my parents to my ex-hubby. Now being blissfully married to a zero abusave hubby for nearly 16 years now with a beautiful 14 year old daughter, I have successfully broken the cycle of abuse with the help of real friends, 7 greuling years of classes and therapy, and a clean slate start in a new location with CRDVA's help.
I've heard this song more than I can count but I cry everytime. No child should have to go through with this. When my daughter started to school she had a bruise on her arm where she fell into a seizure. 2 days later I got called up to the school for a meeting. Come to find out I was meeting with the principal and child services because the teacher reported the bruise on her arm. I guess they were shocked by my reply cause I thanked them for checking into the issue of the bruise on my daughters arm and that they were concerned about her safety. I explained to them what happened and the school did have on record that she had Epilepsy and the protocols etc. The lady from child services said she would like to do a home visit. I said sure when would you like to come. She asked if we could go then I said absolutely. So after the home inspection, meeting with me and my daughter at different times and talking to my daughters doctor the felt safe to say there was no abuse and closed the case. The next day I asked the principal if I could talk with her teacher. Just so happened her planning period was 1st period. So I went into her room. She knew who I was. Bless her heart I could tell she was preparing for a confrontation. I told her that I was happy to catch her that particular morning and that I would like to talk with her. You could see her defenses coming down. I just looked and her and told her how thankful I was that she was my daughters teacher. I told her that I appreciated her calling child services to make sure my daughter was OK. That told me right there that she cared about her and the rest of her students. We both hugged each other. Then I told her I knew it was her planning period so I wasn't going to keep her. I just wanted to make sure she knew how thankful I was that she loved and cared so much for the children in her classroom. ❤
I'm not really a fan of Martina McBride, so I'd never heard this one before. I'm glad you reacted to it so I could hear. This one was so powerful! Like you, it left me in tears.
I applaud you for your emotions and not being scared to show them. THis song is hard to hear but I am with you on this one - I am glad the song exists to bring light to this horrific issue. As much as I almost feel doing so is in poor taste, there is another song you should hear on a touchy subject. It would not be for Female Fridays, but I really think you should hear Runaway Train by Soul Asylum. IT is about teenage runaways, so if you choose not to do it I would completely understand. The good news about it is that a few runaways were reunited with their families as a result of the music video. So - give it a try.
A beautiful song about a terrible problem. Martina takes on some really tough subjects in her music. Your heartfelt reactions are so spot on- we MUST all work together to protect each other!
“As teachers we are their first line of defense” ~ Amber, when you said this during one of the pauses, my heart filled with such RESPECT and love for what y’all do each day as teachers. Our school has the motto written everywhere (on banners in the buildings and on all their social media platforms where so many of the older students themselves have so much exposure to)…”See something, say something” just as you referenced toward the end of the video. This has ALWAYS been a gut wrenching video/song that I watched one time when it came out, and though I’ve seen where others have reacted to it yours is the only one I’ve watched and only the 2nd time I could bring myself to watch the video. I only did it because I’m a new subscriber and I’ve seen some of your other reactions, heard you talk about being a coach, teachers, and parents. Those were the reasons why I chose this channel, and more appropriately, you two to watch this for a second time. You weren’t crying alone. Much love and many blessings over you, your family, and your callings as teachers. 🙏🏼
This song will bring you to your knees. My husband works in law enforcement and had seen things that NO child should ever go through. A child should NEVER have to go through physical and mental abuse. We need more and more everyday to stand up for them. Protect them and most of all love them with everything you got. I appreciate you two and your emotions ❤
I was screaming at the monitor, "J, HUG HER!" "HUG HER!", Amber, if I could have reached in and given you a hug I would have. I'm sorry that that hit you so hard, but it just shows that you have a big heart, which is a good thing. Great reaction though.

@Heather Holt. I both love that song.. and hate the first few bars of music, I never turn it off though. I first heard it 2 days after my Mother passed away.
This song is so amazing. I cannot even imagine how hard it was for Martina McBride to perform this song. Yes, it needed to happen, yes it has to be brought to light more and more. Martina is, herself an angel, for doing this after going through it herself. God bless you, a true angel.
Don’t apologize y’all. Amber, your tears are important and I thank you for raising our kids when they are yours. I’m a pediatric nurse and it’s so daunting (was for 20 years). It’s tough and these kids need people like you wonderful teachers. Much love to you and Rob ♥️♥️
This song always breaks my heart. Martina McBride is truly a force for good at trying to give voices to the people who normally don't have one themselves, or who feel like they can't speak up in situations.
I really wish there were more teacher's like this beautiful couple. Even though I am not a teacher, I think that I can understand why this very beautiful young woman is so emotional. I really wish this beautiful couple nothing but the very best for the rest of their lives.
Similarly, Pat Benatar's "Hell is for Children" is about child abuse. It was a huge hit for her and if I remember correctly, every penny she got from the single went to help kids. It's sad, but Pat takes it the other way. She's pissed about it.
Pat Benatar and Martina McBride performed together on Crossroads. They did the song Independence Day and Pat Benatar put some real attitude in that song as well.
She (pat) responds appropriately. This sedated response (most of society #kidsincages ) to the systemic, economic power structure that creates the conditions for brutality to occur. It happens at every age level in western society. Until people demolish the power structure, abuse of power and exploitation and brutality will continue. It’s not good enough, this thing people do, that just blame parents for abuse without addressing the structure of life surrounding the situation the people are occupying. The only thing that’s hard about addressing the situation in a real way is that the reality is quite horrific.
Pat Benetar’s Hell is for Children was so incredibly shocking and amazing for me. It was the first song I heard that talked about child abuse. But there’s a version that has a little bit of Suffer the Little Children before the main song starts. And that chills me to the core every time I hear it. I lost my godson to child abuse and that version became almost a prayer and a cry at the same time. It may be painful, but this song….you will want to react to it - because it needs to be shared again with the world. I love Martina McBride and hadn’t heard of this song. I was in tears with you Amber. And thank you both for being teachers. I understand how challenging -and rewarding it is
My reaction is the same. I burst into tears EVERY time I hear this song. I’m not a mother or a teacher, just someone with a heart. To think of a child having to “fly to a place where she’s loved” just shatters my heart into a million pieces. Every child deserves to be loved here on earth, every single day.💔😭
Both of your emotions are exactly what people with empathy, compassion, loving hearts would have, so don't ever hold back those tears or emotions of a pure heart, we need more teachers like you people in general and when we see something sadly so very common happening with such innocent precious teens, children and babies, it's our duty as humans to say something if we see something and don't stop. Love you both so much. You're beautiful people ❣️❣️❣️
I highly recommend "Angel" by Sarah McLachlan for a future Female Friday. Or pretty much anything by Sarah. :) "Building a Mystery", "Posession", "Adia", "Hold On", and my personal favorite, "Sweet Surrender". Her voice is as angelic as you'll find.
I played the heck out of that CD in the late 90s. One of my favorite albums. I feel like we are sleeping on recommending Tori Amos to them too, I just have to think of what song would be a good intro.
I'm a retired teacher and haven't listened to this song for years. My reaction is the exact same as Amber's. This is song is just a lot of feels. I appreciate Amber needing to stop to control herself because I'm just here ugly crying for us both.
I've heard this song numerous times over the years, yet the video brings me to tears everytime. Martina is one of the best female storytellers. For her lighter side check out THIS ONE'S FOR THE GIRLS. She wrote it for her daughters.
This song and video always hits hard. This was personal for Martina McBride because the name on the gravestone is her niece who died at the hands of an abusive parent.
It was a teacher that got involved with cps to have my children removed from their fathers care which he was awarded do to me being in the military. And the state of California granted me full custody. Thanks to a teacher that noticed and reported the abuse their father and girlfriend did. When I got them back I had a homicidal 6yo and a suicidal 5yo. Today they are normal well a gusted young adults and they worked hard to get that way. But none of that would have been possible if it weren’t for the saving grace of one brave teacher.
Martina has a special gift to go along with her stunningly beautiful voice ,to sing about subjects people don't want to talk about, but so need to talk about. When she first recorded Independence Day, the label did not want it as a singe, but she stood up to them, then she did the video, they didn't like it and were telling her to change it,but she refused...to this day it remains one of her biggest songs, she has several that tackle Domestic Violence, but Concrete Angel always brings me to tears no matter how many times i hear it. Thank you both for being real with your emotions, Never apologize about that...yes, it is a very hard video and song to watch and listen to..but it is so important. xo
Music is so important and impactful because it tells, not only the beautiful and fun stories, but the also the difficult and heartbreaking stories that need to be told. I was a real Martina McBride fan and when this song came out it was an incredible blow to the heart for so many people. People speculated and tried to find less painful meaning in the lyrics, but then when you saw the video there was no denying that Martina really was telling the unthinkable story.
Most of Martina’s music is just this deep. She deals with so many different issues. Broken Wing is about domestic violence also but has a triumphant end. It really showcases her powerhouse voice as well. John Michael Montgomery has a song that you need to review as well. It’s The Little Girl and it is beautiful in showing how God is always there for us. (Happier ending for this little girl tho) It give me chills every time I listen to it. Music is so powerful and Amber I’m just like you. I’ve heard this and seen the video so many times but I started crying again right along with you! I think it speaks volumes as to the kind of people you are when we see how it touches you. That’s why we appreciate and love you guys so much. You’re the real deal! And Amber please don’t feel you have to apologize. You have nothing to be sorry for! Love you both and take care of you and baby Luca Mama! 👶🏽 ♥️♥️

@@annalisegiovanni7032 That song reminds me so much of my mom. Dad was exactly like the man in that song. And my mom took that shit from him because up until the day she died, she loved my dad.
As a former SPED teacher of middle and high schoolers, I’ve had to make that phone call. It’s gut wrenching, but the best teachers are ones who love their kiddos like their own and will walk that path with them to see that they’re safe.
I'm a retired paramedic and can relate to your feelings about this issue. It was so hard for me to contain my emotions when I responded to these calls. Just know that I cried right along with you on this one. You are both great!
Two more songs about abuse are "Luka" by Suzane Vega and "Dear Mr. Jesus" by Powersouce. Both are quite sad, but are very powerful. I remember "Dear Mr. Jesus" coming out around Christmas and was still widely requested long afterward.
Martina McBride wrote this song as a way to grieve because her sister was in prison for beating her child to death. It was also her way of getting the word out about child abuse of any kind. It was meant to be raw and emotional because this is the reality of children all over the world. The "concrete angels" are the decorations that are put of many tombstones of children. The boy that she was friends with was her guardian angel who was always with her.
I had no idea! I don’t know what to say. I was raised by 2 loving parents who weren’t perfect but they were awesome and raised us with love, discipline and fun. My heart breaks for those who had “less than stellar” as Amber put it so eloquently. How do I help? What can I do? Volunteer at child and women’s shelters.
Yes and Stephanie Bentley started writing the lyrics of this song in 1995 and finished in 1997. Martina’s niece wasn’t even born when she started writing it. Maybe she was psychic and wrote about an event that wouldn’t happen for another 7 years, according to the gossiping rumour mongers. Btw, you could have just search to find there was no arrest or trial. Also her sister is a successful CEO/businesswoman and she is very proud of her only big sister.
Seeing this made me remember my neighbor when I was 8 yrs old.He was always by himself so I asked him to play with the rest of us neighborhood children, playing after school near our house then his drunk dad came, my friend was so scared ,his dad was so belligerent &throw the knife at us , striking his son. I remember screaming and started calling my father to protect us. I've never seen my father so angry. That day my friends and I treated him like our brother. We almost shared everything and our parents constantly checking and helping him out.
I had neighbors like you as well, but there was little they could really do.. I wanted a loving family so bad, but no one ever stepped up to rescue me. I hoped I would die, I didnt but I grew up and tried to fit into an unforgiving world.
I appreciate you two more & more everyday. You both are attentive, intelligent, well mannered and caring people. You all are at the top of my list of you tubers.
Very blessed by you two. Amber, you crushed me with your reaction, which is a lot like our own when we heard this (and every time since). When our daughter was 6 she was chosen for the school talent show and she chose this song. We tried to gently move her in a more positive direction but she persisted, and so she and I worked on her performance and delivery for several weeks. For some reason they had her go last and you could hear a pin drop. My wife nudged me to look around (as we were front row stage right) and there was a row of elementary school teachers at the back of the room crying their eyes out. She got a standing ovation, but for cheerfulness' sake she won runner-up, and we were 100% okay with that. I can still see her clearly in her white dress, bows in her hair, raising her arms to deliver the line "and she flies to a place where she's loved..." Precious, poignant and still as fresh as the baby's breath her mom weaved into those bows in her hair. I know this is months old by now, but I hope this comment finds you, and we both hope you know how much we appreciate your empathy and your joy, and even your sadness when it comes to the terrible things some children must face in this world. Thank you for refreshing a priceless memory and for sharing your decency, kind hearts and humanity with all of us.
You both daily warm this old man's heart. Thank you for being vulnerable, caring and compassionate people. You're fine parents, fine teachers and fine human beings. God bless you!
We adopted our son when he was 9 out of foster care. It is heartbreaking what kids go through. He's 21 now and has no interest in seeing any of his bio family again. They keep trying, but he says they have nothing to say he wants to hear after hurting him when he couldn't protect himself.
We adopted our son out of foster care as well, when he was 6. Every once in a while, we ask him if he has any questions about his past, and he always responds with, I dont want to think about being anywhere but here with you. He is turning 18 this year.
@@shaunmacdougall2734 our son remembers enough that he makes it very clear he has no interest in repeating that life. He has asked if there's anything he should know medically, but other than that he has no interest in.
Wow. I was a 7th grade English teacher for 32 years (I’m now 70), and this song really hit home. And to now know that you’re both teachers just heightens my appreciation for what you do! Each week I look forward to your thoughtful critiques (especially Female Fridays), many of which have inspired me to listen to more of artists’ songs that I’d usually ignore. Thanks, guys! With appreciation, Wayne
My daughter is an elementary teacher in NYS and she told me a story where a mother of one one her students called her at school in the early morning hours one day. The mother told my daughter that her older son had stabbed her younger daughter before she left for school. The teacher told my daughter to meet her at the bus because she was injured. He had stabbed her in the arm and she was bleeding. I found it incredible that the mother laid it off onto the school/teacher to deal with her daughter's injury. Bless you both for dealing with such issues every day and taking care of our children. You are very special people. First time for me to hear this song. Thanks for your reaction.... hoping you both are doing okay and are well. Hoping you are feeling well, Amber. Take care. Peace.
When this song came out I was a young adult. And I remember sobbing because I lost my best friend because her dad was a drunk and drowned her in the bath. Every time I hear this I sob thinking of her. Thank you for being amazing people and caring for your kids and classes. Because I told our teacher many times and nothing was ever even investigated until it was far to late for her :(
Speaking as someone who came so damn close to this ending, I absolutely loathed my teachers. I had so many teachers scream at me for sleeping in class, having no homework, or generally being so quiet that I won't even do work on the board because I just wanted silence and peace and quiet. I had friends parents that ignored it, neighbors ignored it to the point of actively telling my mom and I that we'd 'hurt their property value' if they did anything. The number of people that just let it go, no matter the consequences on others, is terrifyingly accurate with this song.
It's heartbreaking and disgusting how many adults ignore child abuse. I can remember standing in front of 2 police officers, covered in blood and bruises, being told by them that if I'd just obey, my drug addict stepfather wouldn't have to "discipline" me.
Me too. I did have one who would comb my hair and hold me. She'd was my face and knees. Even brought socks just for me. I felt her love. It meant everything to me.
No day passes when I do not shed a tear from hearing this song. Amber, please never lose your sense of empathy for these children who are lost in the system. We all need to do better at keeping things like this from happening, EVER!
Pat Benetar wrote Hell is for Children about abuse as well. It's more rock based. Kudos to you both being teachers. I know it's not always easy but you are giving a safe space for an entire day. I've been worried about those kids ever since schools closed due to covid.
Love Hell is for Children!! I completely relate!! Stays with you for life & very few play one's like that, that we can relate to & help heal us & not feel so alone!! 😥
I saw Martina McBride in concert years ago when she opened for Tim McGraw and her voice was so powerful and beautiful that the entire arena was silent in awe of her. 💜🔥
Thank you, Amber. I love the way you feel the emotional part of the music. I taught 2nd, 3rd & 4th grade before retiring. You love the children you teach. This song also makes me cry.
Never apologize for having a beautiful, caring heart. Lucky are the children who have you as a teacher.
Lucky are the children who have you as a mother✌️
And father...
Right on. You nailed it with these two. They are amazing people
Agreed!!!
As a victim of child abuse and one who made it through the darkest and most horrible time please don't ever apologize for showing true genuine empathy and love for those who don't make it.
That moment when you realize that "Concrete Angel" is a reference to the angels on so many headstones in cemeteries. It hits so hard.
I'm actually surprised more people don't figure it out sooner with its name..not being insulting just growing up I only knew the concrere angels in the children's cemetery being on the headstones..
I guess through the wind and the rain standing like stone is a reference to the same?

It actually takes on three different meanings within the song.
Uhh, I was waiting for a horrific ending to your story! Thank goodness for your mom. Does he know she's the one who saved him?
@@evabartlett4599 He does know that my mom saved him and is very grateful. That was so long ago and they have lost contact with him even though Mom sees him on TV every now and then. She is so proud of him.
We imagine that its always people of lesser means that abuse others. I have witnessed all too often highly narcissitic, self entitled a..holes at the top of society to know that its not true. This evil doesnt know any societal distinction. Its found in all classes, all races, all genders. Its a human failing and your mother is an intelligent person for recognising this fact.
God bless your mom!
You are right Amber. Teachers, bus drivers, bus aides, etc are considered mandated reporters for Children Protective Services. If you suspect something is going on with a child it is better to say something and be wrong then to remain silent and have there be another concrete angel.
Martina’s INDEPENDENCE DAY addresses this issue, as well, with what is, to me, a more satisfying, yet heart-breaking, resolution!
This is so true. It's also a powerful song.
She's so good at songs like these.
Independence Day is about spousal abuse, not child abuse.
I was referring to an umbrella of domestic violence/abuse.

As a survivor of child abuse this song always makes me feel strong for making through it. No one knew what was going on. After running away, about 2 weeks later this song debuted.

Yes Independence Day by Martina is a must along this similar line..
I replied to someone a moment ago about the song Independence Day. Martina McBride and Pat Benatar performed the song on Crossroads. I really like that version of the song. The entire concert they did for Crossroads was good.
Broken Wing
The house that they burned in the Independence Day video was my buddy’s grandmother’s house.
@@Beachbum1Day Aw, man. Hopefully it was because the house actually needed to be taken down, and not just because the music company needed a prop... I hope your buddy's life has gone well since then.
Definitely!!!
The 70s were rampant with all kinds of abuse.same wolf diffirent clothing..
You're a hero for breaking that cycle. Be proud.
This was about her niece
This is literally likely the saddest song in all of popular music history. It's usually at or near the top of any and every list of most tragic ballads. Amber's reaction is completely normal and natural. Thousands, if not millions of people have cried to this song before. But it's not just sad, it's important. Hearing it and absorbing it makes you a better person, a deeper and more empathetic person.
Don't disagree, but one contender is Alyssa Lies.
The Little Girl by John Michael Montgomery is another one that breaks your heart
Try listening to Christmas shoes. That will ruin your day but it’s a good song too
another one that's often forgotten about from such lists but deserves a spot is Darryl Worrley - I Miss My Friend.
Wow I didn't know that, thanks
It was written exactly because of that
Heh. I'm just a dad and this is tough. I cannot imagine being a teacher to so many young lives. Respect.
@@jenniferniswonger9319 no it is not it is 100% fiction I doubt Martina said that there was never a news of Martias sister murdering her daughter so yea this never happened
Martina’s song “Broken Wing” has a message and also shows off the beautiful range of her voice.

This song brings tears every time. Martina like to champion these causes by using her platform to help be a voice otherwise ignored. "Independence Day" and "Broken Wing" are two others dealing with abuse. She is one of the great ones.
Broken Wing definitely! That shows of her voice so well!
"God's Will" is another good one. Martina's songs deliver messages for sure.
Broken Wing really does show her range!! That last note...wow!!!!!

McBride's niece was a victim of child abuse, so this song is a dedication to her. Her niece was abused by her mother, McBride's sister, after she divorced her husband. McBride's sister abused her daughter continuously until one day when McBride's precious niece was killed.
I love Martina & I can’t listen to this song without crying. It was said when she sang this in the studio, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

Martina takes on tough subjects. Independence Day was another song that she was openly criticized about. That one is about domestic violence.
Martina has been a spokesperson for domestic violence awareness for as long as she's had a career. She's an honest and consistent lady.

I love "God's Will" . I agree, it's another one that gets to me too.
The first time I watched this video it broke me. I've lost count of the number I've watched it, but one thing remains the same and that's the tears.
Martina is a story teller. A ballad queen. Old soul. I loved her songs for years
God bless you both for being such loving, caring teachers.

This song will bring you to your knees. My husband works in law enforcement and had seen things that NO child should ever go through.

It was a teacher that got involved with cps to have my children removed from their fathers care which he was awarded do to me being in the military. And the state of California granted me full custody. Thanks to a teacher that noticed and reported the abuse their father and girlfriend did.

Thank you both for being real with your emotions, Never apologize about that...yes, it is a very hard video and song to watch and listen to..but it is so important. xo
Hello Robin

Two more songs about abuse are "Luka" by Suzane Vega and "Dear Mr. Jesus" by Powersouce. Both are quite sad, but are very powerful. I remember "Dear Mr. Jesus" coming out around Christmas and was still widely requested long afterward.
I thought it was Alyssa Lies. Maybe that's by a different singer.
Martina McBride didn't write this song, it was written by Stephanie Bentley and Rob Crosby
I love how real you guys are with your reactions. You feel every emotion and do not hide it . Keep it up we will be watching and feeling it with you
I appreciate you two more & more everyday.
Beautiful 🥰
You both daily warm this old man's heart. Thank you for being vulnerable, caring and compassionate people. You're fine parents, fine teachers and fine human beings. God bless you!
I agree Tim. It’s so refreshing to see decency and lightness on media of any kind these days.
My goodness, you are two very, very special people. What hearts you have. Blessings to you both.
If you don’t cry when you hear this you don’t have a ❤️ this song is sad but beautiful
We adopted our son when he was 9 out of foster care. It is heartbreaking what kids go through. He's 21 now and has no interest in seeing any of his bio family again. They keep trying, but he says they have nothing to say he wants to hear after hurting him when he couldn't protect himself.
Thank you for giving him a home where he could be reborn into a new life of love as your child.
This song gets me bawling every time. It’s more than my heart can handle.
Do not apologize For having a heart! The world needs more teachers like you.
You both give me hope for humanity.
I know right?!?
Me too! This couple are so easy to love!
Martina took on several hard subjects that few would touch. Independence Day and Broken Wing are two more that deal with other kinds of abuse.
Yeah Broken Wing is a powerhouse and so moving.
I have never subscribed to a reaction creator but the two of you are just different. God bless!
I experienced a lot of the same. I had a handful of good teachers though and they saved my life.
That is a good suggestion.
Love Hell is for Children!! I completely relate!! Stays with you for life & very few play one's like that, that we can relate to & help heal us & not feel so alone!! 😥
@@jewls9697 Agree 100%, music got me through the darker times. Hugs
My parents hate me because i smoke weed in my UA-cam videos 😭😭
@@Star_R666 Hugs to you also!! Same here, as my Girl Miranda Lambert says...Music is medicine!! May God bless you!!
I saw Martina McBride in concert years ago when she opened for Tim McGraw and her voice was so powerful and beautiful that the entire arena was silent in awe of her. 💜🔥
I saw her open for Alan Jackson and Jackson mentioned how loud the crowd was for her. She is amazing.
Don't worry guys, I'm sure there's more than just me crying along with you guys. God bless!
Hello Carol
Thank you, Amber. I love the way you feel the emotional part of the music. I taught 2nd, 3rd & 4th grade before retiring. You love the children you teach. This song also makes me cry.
