Believe it or not I was born in Des Moines, IA where the guys from Slipknot are from and my social studies teacher was the brother of Chris Fehn aka long nose and also my great Aunt lived next door to Corey for a while and he would have his big ass tour buses out in front of his house, I'm a maggot for life!

IOWA is rhe DARKEST and ANGRIEST era of the band
So, as u can see, they were super heavy and dirty and raw in the 1st years, so u can think that they used to be criticized A LOT, they used to get a lot of hate and criticized like "Ah slipknot cant make good music" "slipknot songs are just noises" "their songs are just mess" "they can make a song without swearing" so thats what their 3rd album is about, im already warning u coz besides these critycs, they gave a middle finger to the haters and in the 3rd album they... I wont give spoilers but its super different from the 1st 2 and it worked so well, btw here: a lot of songs from VOL.3 have music videos BUT ALL of the music videos from Vol.3 ARENT the album version, IDK WHY they changed the songs so much for the music vidoes, which is a shame coz all of their music videos are always fire, so: Duality, Before I forget, The Nameless(this one is the live version), Vermilion pt1, all of these songs are longer and cleaner in the album version, but the music videos are insane,
The blister exists has a music video too but the sound is the same from the album version the difference is that its a black and white "live"
This album is way better with the lyrics on screen. it tells a story with each song in order. The last song "Iowa" Is about necrophilia and mutilation. Corey was molested and abandoned as a kid. The song is so disturbing, a lot of the lyrics aren't even in the official lyrics. They are played in samples, some are even reversed. So people who wanna hear those deeper messages have to go out of their way and listen to the song played backwards. When played backwards, the song is WAY more disturbing. For example, in one of those reversed samples, Corey screams "DONT LOOK AT ME!" He was screaming at clown for looking at him with a face. Just imagine what he was seeing tho. A man (Corey) covered in vomit, slicing his wrists open, pouring alcohol on his wounds and just LAUGHING about it. Corey explained about ten years after that song released, it was everything they recorded from the S/T album, to iowa, to the self titled track Iowa and a toxic relationship he was in that started bringing that kind of dark fantasy into his mind. Corey is my fucking hero man. I can relate to the type of anger he carries in his chest. I know he has it so much worse than me. But to see him become the man he is today. I can only summarize him as "Hero"
yeah Iowa is where everything was at the breaking point. substance abuse was high, dark thoughts were numerous, Corey was fighting to stay in his kid's life, and then Paul Grey was lost, that's when they realized shit needed to stop.

I remember getting this CD when it first came out. Became my high-school soundtrack. My opinion, One of the best and darkest albums made. In my top 5 all time.
I was reminiscing over the same thing. I remember being in awe over the booklet that was inside I had never seen anything like it.
