Hi Phil. These really can go as narrow as you need. Pretty much all I build is cutting boards and rarely less than 12 to 14 inches. These clamps were so frustrating I ended up throwing them away. If you are just making a few boards I would just use regular Harwood calls covered in packing tape. I wouldn't with these things on anybody. Very poor design and low quality. Sorry to be so negative but I can't remember buying a worse tool.
What is the narrowest you can clamp with the length of boards/cauls you made? I bought a set to use for cutting boards. Thanks!
