Have an 2005 XC90 AWD 220,000. Still going! I do my own work to it. I've had to replace normal wear and tear items, rotors struts control arms, muffler the hardest repair is the alternator because it's in the back and you have to remove the passenger axel. Mine is fully loaded with running boards folding mirrors rear entertainment system.
Beautiful XC90. Get the PCV system serviced if not done already and as it has a sunroof these are notorious for the sunroof drains clogging then you get water in the cabin in footwells - keep an eye 👍
Lol. I was bewildered with water in my driver side footwell haha. I every time it was going to rain I put a towel on my floor board ok I’ll sort that. Thanks
@@BernonCars Hello Bern, I've been in conflict over the 2010 xc90 V8 and the Tahoe ( from 2008 to 2012 or thereabouts ) Can you please help resolve this conflict as you which is a more reliable daily driver and a family utility car.
You gotta drop the headliner for the $14(ea) sunroof visor clips. Do all the fluids!!! Do a full flush on the trans and you'll have peace of mind (video on UA-cam using the start/stop add 2 qts until it's clean fluid method). They are good transmissions but the always want to drop into the lowest gear to give you better milage. They are fantastic SUVs, I did the same as you in my car search but was also looking at Tahoe's and Yukons and Navigators and Expeditions and Aviators! The XC90 V8 is a Swede machine in the snow! Enjoy it! 300k + is easy with maintenance, I have 208k and it still drives like a new car
I’ve got a 2009 w 232k going strong. Look for ps leaks, fresh plugs, front control arms or ball joints. Amongst other items, enjoy and resist the muffler delete.
Fantastic intro and video Bern, I liked and appreciated that you were honest with your own purchase in regards the problems, which can give a people a heads up if they are purchasing used cars as well. I'm not too familiar with Volvos (I have a 05 4Runner) but I have ridden in some and they are comfortable and safe rides! A V8 in that color and condition with good service record is a great find, nice job! In regards to making it more off road capable, tires is always the first step but since you're doing a lift, you can do the tires after, I too considered the Falken tires but decided on BFG KO2's and they've been great, quiet on road and still capable off road with good sidewall strength. Alot of people go fat tyres but that is more asthetic and for mudding, skinny and tall puts less strain on milage and components while offering good grip on terrain (more PSI per square inch contact) [I run 255/75R17s with 2.5 inch lift and stock UCAs to avoid rubbing]. Having the capability to air down your tires and airing back up after your trails really improves your capability and comfort on the trails even if it's just dirt trails. Also, while I'm not too familiar with volvo options, you really want to look at skid plate or under side protection; it's important that you can still get home if you knock something out there. You may know alot of the information stated above but I figured I'd just offer some pointers back your way in the event you don't as you make your decisions and enjoy that sweet ride. Keep the great videos coming~
Thank you so much! 😀 I’m really happy with it so far! Ahh yes I’m probably gonna look around at a few different tires before I make a concrete decision. Yes I’m definitely planning to get a skid plate! Probably the first thing I’ll do (mod wise) because I wanna see how it does on some trails stock!
@@davidkdanielson,The V8 has a poor track record. The engine has been known to implode. Most inline 6 engines have a history of durability, whether it be Japanese or European.
@@buckcannon1811 Interesting. I know the 2005 is known for balance shaft failure, but other than that the engine is solid if the valve cover gaskets are maintained every 100k miles or so. The 3.2 is definitely reliable if it doesn't suffer from oil consumption, but it sure is a dog.
Nice! Don’t see too many recent vids of these V8 XC90s! But FYI this isn’t the Executive Package. The V8 Executive Package includes ventilated and massaging front seats with power lumbar adjustment plus heated outboard second row seats and 19” rims. I’ve been trying to find one with low miles in good condition. 🙂 saw one recently online outside Chicago but couldn’t make it to the dealer due to work schedule and by the time I had a chance it was sold. It was a 2010 with 83k mi!
I have each type of volvo wheel. The one you like is weird because I can't drive with my hand on the bottom as I always have in ever volvo, honda, acura, gm I've owned. NIce xc!
Wow such a great video! i love this car could you kindly tell me the name of the song at the beginning of your video i just love it............thanks a lot
Hi Bern! I have said it before, you always seem to cover the questions that a NOOB would want to know. Two queries for now; first, is there a designation number in the VIN that shows it's an Executive? And second, does the XC90 3.2 have an executive version?? (I DID get an XC70 (his name is Puddle Jumper, "PJ" for short!) now I am looking for my XC90). (PS, I know that many folks like to purchase black automobiles. Look up the safest car colors online; black cars are the least safe for others to see. Dark Blue other dark colors are hardest to see at night, and even in daytime. White cars, yellow, red, orange are easier to see and safer!!) I have one dark grey car that I plan to put on a lighter "Wrap," I have a silver car, and I WIll Not Buy a black or dark car!!
That’s good deal for what it is. The transmissions on these I’d be worried about. I had a friend that went through 3 transmission in as many months. Are you going to put the front plate on haha?
Definitely! The trans on this feels pretty solid. Shifts are smooth and it’s not done anything weird. I wanna change the fluid out though. Haha nope I take the front plate on all my cars 🤪
@@BernonCars good idea it may have been a different transmission this was years ago so hard to remember. Haha I live in NC so no ugly front plates anyways!
I do know that the earlier T6 XC90’s had garbage transmissions and even the old V8’s too I think. 2010-11 was a solid time for these 😁. Yeah lucky! Haha
