    This vehicle is 100% a tank. Just survived an accident where I was hit almost head-on when a person fell asleep and crossed into my lane. It handles so well...I was able to avoid a direct head on while having to move over to the very edge of a very deep ditch. She still hit me at the headlight peeled the whole side off until hitting the frame behind the driver's side wheel. I flew into the ditch with the vehicle resting on its passenger side. I survived with barely a scratch a few bruises and some whiplash. Forever grateful ❤ my kids were not with me thank God but they still get to have their mom!

      That is the stuff that you pay when buying a Volvo.Something you don’t phisically seen on the option list and that is Safety.Other manufacturers advertise on body kits,colours and gadgets but all of those stuff will only put you in an great show off image for others to crave for but they will not save your life.

    Nice review. I just bought a 2014 XC90 Luxury 2.5T (Gasoline) with all the gadgets (available at the time), with 120k miles, and it’s such a delight to drive. I’m a Volvo enthusiast, and I was looking forward to have THIS model in particular. It’s in very good shape: Paint is good, no crashes, one owner, all service at Volvo dealer, leather in perfect shape, DVD, GPS, BLUETOOTH, etc. I Just drove It for a 15 days ROAD-TRIP with my kids, thru México, and it was QUITE A NICE RIDE. I feel that I did THE BEST BUY EVER. I also drive a Range Rover Sport, and even thought the Range Rover it’s OTHER KIND OF CAR (powerful and HUGE), I like to drive the XC90 better. Thanks for sharing.

    Hello from The USA, I’m down on my luck with my Suburban and my father is willing to help me with a used car. Your review on this model was the second I have watched and I must say I’m impressed! (My father sent me a link to this model and a 2008 Range Rover Sport Supercharged. Both in the same price range and similar mileage on them) your review had me chuckling a bit, great sense of humor!! But of the 2 reviews of this model (knowing nothing about Volvos AT ALL in general) sounds like I should be in good hands safety wise with either choice if one of them works out (I’m still crossing my fingers on the Ranger Rover but it’s a 2 hour drive to go see so and being short on time I’m trying to keep my feelings uninvested in it) I’m glad you covered this model AND happened to compare it to the Range Rover! Great review!

    Harry, I've owned my 2003 XC90 for nearly 2 years (at the time of writing) and I don't regret it one bit. It was the practicality and reliability that won me over. I've driven a Discovery 3 and every Discovery owner I've come across has had problems. Unfortunately the reputation for LR unreliability is well-deserved. My XC90 hasn't been entirely trouble-free either but most problems can be fixed without too much expense (I'm a DIY-er which keeps labour costs down). Some modules can be a problem but they can be repaired or replaced without going to the dealer. Most 3rd row seats in 7 seaters are a bit cramped for adults so that's just par for the course. One biggie is the rear dampers. They're the Nivomat self-levelling ones that were fitted to all UK XC90s and are only available from the dealer at about £300 each! There is no aftermarket alternative. The only workaround is to fit standard rear dampers and the springs will also need to be replaced as they have to be matched to the dampers.

      I had an old Mondeo that shared many features with Volvo's of the time, mid 2000s. I paid 1500€ for it of I remember right and drove it for about 200.000km. I had to do some suspension work as rear shocks had gone and at the time I didn't know how to work on my own cars. Took it to a mechanics and they called me about half an hour later sayin "yup, rear shocks definitely are gone, but they're Nivomats" to which I probably said something like "yes, and...?"
      "Yeah, sorry. So they're 700€. Each."
      Long story short I opted for new standard shocks and springs. So much cheaper. The Nivomats are really great, just have to hope the previous owner has changed them already 😅

    This was a very pleasant video to watch, thank you. 👌
    Disco 3/4 is kinda my dream car but I really don't have the budget to run one. Parts here in Finland, or probably anywhere outside of UK, are hella expensive and hard to find. It'd be the better car for sure, as long as you'd find a well maintained one with sensible miles.
    That being said, those kind of examples are rare as hen's teeth and with Sweden being next door theres plenty of Volvo's rolling about on the streets, as well as being broken for parts which is an added bonus when looking for some spare parts.
    I'm currently driving a '01 V70 D5, just passed 600.000km mark earlier this week. 🎉 So I do trust the technology and have a basic understanding of the possible issues these might have.
    Leaving my house means driving about 1-2 metres straight and then tackling a steep hill going up for about 50 meters. I'm soon gonna head out to plow snow and put down salt and grit, for the second time today. 🤦
    So you can believe me when I say I've really been looking into 4x4s again 😅 XC90 is probably if not at the top of the list, then at least close to it. I like Volvo's, they're cheap to run, safe, comfortable.
    Don't need the serious off road capability of a Land Rover right now, so that dream will most likely have to wait.

    • @BuckleUpShow
      @BuckleUpShow  7 місяців тому

      You could always split the difference with a Freelander 2, no air suspension to worry about and the diesel engines were either from Ford or Peugeot so while they're not without fault the parts on them are more reasonable.
      Also I don't want to tell you how to suck eggs, as you're Finnish you probably know all of this already, but the bulk of the XC90 and Disco 3/4 do count against it in the snow, an AWD Volvo estate or saloon or a Subaru might be worth looking in to

    • @Antti_Iltanen
      @Antti_Iltanen 7 місяців тому

      @@BuckleUpShow you're most likely right about them not being the best in snow, but they'll do pretty ok. And some ground clearance would be preferable as there are quite deep ruts forming in winter. Volvo estates I've been looking at, Subaru's are a no go as half of them for sale have a totally busted engine (usually crankshaft I think) or a heavy knock. Petrols are probably ok but mileage isn't up to par.
      Freelander 2 isn't a bad option, I have experience with both Ford and Peugeot engines too, but I seem to remember they're quite small in the luggage compartment? I have 2 dogs so need plenty of space...

    I'm in Perth Australia. I have a 2004 model T6 which I have had since new. Its done 126,000 kms. I bought it because it was one of the few seven seaters around at the time and I loved the styling which I think has stood the test of time. Agreed that the rear seats are for youngish kids up to about 10 years of age. I have never had a mechanical problem with the car - largest todate was the scheduled change of the timing belt a few months ago. Anyway I will be putting it through its paces next month as I will be driving it from Perth to Melbourne, a distance of 4,000 kms in about 6 days - which reminds me, the only thing I dont like about the car is the temporary mini-spare tyre and its terrible location under the car - had one puncture about 6-7 years back and it was a nightmare to change - I assume the rear seats took up the normal space for a full size spare. Anyhow one puncture in 19 years is'nt bad I suppose.

    FYI, they did put the buttons for the SatNav on the back of the steering wheel (remote doesn’t control infotainment system, as it hasn’t got one!).
    The auto gearbox is sluggish, takes an age to launch from the line, which can be frustrating when you’re waiting to pull out into traffic - press the accelerator, nothing, then your space has gone…..
    They all do it! Manual mode doesn’t help either!
    That said, I had a lovely D5 R-Design and it was a solid bullet proof car.

      The 2.4 Diesel power train with the auto is very strong. There's nothing wrong with the manual but it's not good enough to take time to seek out. Check for body corrosion and cloudy headlights, a good service history is a must on any high mileage vehicle. These are reliable and safe but if you do have to get anything done on one the parts are expensive.

    Fantastic review sir 👏. Really appreciate your efforts & replies to every comment. I am a big guy like you 6 ft 4 inch from india. Here in india I am able to find 50k kms - 80k kms VOLVO XC90 D5 2012- 2014 models for a very reasonable price.
    Unfortunately here in india I couldn't find a spacious 3rd row car that is reliable. The options are Toyota Innova crysta, Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour these cars are very cramped in 3rd row. I hope XC 90 is somewhat comfortable than those above options 👆.
    Although I must admit I have never got into or driven Volvo xc90 just curious to listen to your opinion.
    I am planning to buy an XC90 and will make the 3rd row slide even more backwards sacrificing cargo space as I am planning to carry the luggage on top of the roof. Doing this I hope will create more legroom for 5.6,5.7 ft adults. My friends are of smaller size around 5.6 - 5.7 I think they can fit well in 3rd row. Need your valuable opinion. Thank you 👍

    • @BuckleUpShow
      @BuckleUpShow  3 місяці тому

      Someone around 5'7" will fit in the third row, the main thing is the floor is quite high so their legs will be quite bent but the only car that is better than this is the Land Rover Discovery, which definitely isn't reliable.

    Another great video, thank you. I have a first world problem….I can’t decide on whether to buy a Disco 3/4 or a late Mk1 XC90. Heart says Landy, head says Volvo. I hear too many horror stories about LR reliability.

    • @BuckleUpShow
      @BuckleUpShow  2 роки тому +2

      If it was my own money I would hunt down a nice SDV6 Disco 4 and put away a couple of grand for if the suspension needed doing, for any rational person I would recommend the Volvo.
      With JLR products you know pretty soon if you have a bad one, it tends to be something like random electrical faults or sqeeky breaks, so inconvenient and expensive to chase but theoretically possible to live with. In terms of big "strand you by the side of the road" problems it is the same as any other aging luxury vehicle, its a case of service history is king.
