The 60 watt version has an effects loop, unlike Boss's refusal to add one to their 50w katana. A huge plus for Laney.
Man, isn't marketing such a grand thing? Solid-state has been a dirty word in the guitar amp world for such a long time, but now that digital is the new enemy of tone, brands realized all they had to do to was call solid-state amps "all-analog" and the cork sniffers would come running!
No disrespect to Laney in particular, or any brand for that matter. Just an observation on how silly guitar players can be.
It reminds me of the "true bypass" craze
It is silly. I do think Laney have got it right here though. These are great affordable pedal platforms. You could maybe even afford to buy two and have a stereo rig.
To be fair, those old solid state amps got a bad rap purely from being made and designed badly, there’s nothing inherently wrong tone wise with solid state, just a lot of bad implementation which ruined their reputation
can't wait to see what comes next that leaves digital amplifiers feeling bespoke and organic
@@sutoneru-sama9836 True Bypass is not a craze
Great playing to showcase the Laney amps which sound brilliant. Analogue amps don't often get the credit they are due.
The very akward edit after the Bruce Springfield discussion was priceless.
That G&l tele is a beauty.
So happy to see Laney stepping up. They've always been my go-to. May have to get the 2x12.
I want black vertical 2x12.. but the are DEAF.
I think thats some of the best tones both of them have had in a while. Can’t quite believe how affordable both those guitars and amps are. Amps sound great and also look great. 👌
YES! Rocking a Lionheart L5 studio for a few years now and it’s sooo good! Laney is underrated
You had me at affordable and analog!
Same here!
You had me at liking a bit of pink
You consider this analogue? I thought it was like the katana- a modeling amp. I must've missed something.

I enjoy the banter enormously no matter the length of the videos so I don’t think I 'll be popping to Andertons 2 any time soon. Cheers!
Andertons ADHD.
YESSSS 😂
The Springsteen segment was gold!! Thank you Pete!!
I’ve been saying this for aaaaaages, I joke about it on stage when we do it live in the band, so glad I’m not alone haha
The clean sound with the boost engaged sounded pretty dam good 👍 👌 12:55
GDI! Super thoughtful playing from Pete as always. Outstanding!
Loved the original Lionheart series. Exited for these amps.
ive gotten really into Neural DSP the last year and it has just opened my eyes to what a solid state amp can be. I think we will see a large evolution over the next few years
Would have been great to have one of these included in the affordable amp blindfold shootout with Rob to get a comparison between them and their competitors
True- but Laney might get a little upset if you just ignored their release date like that and stole their thunder. Besides, they might now want the world's first look at their amp to be when it's being A/B'ed against what's currently considered the reigning champ in this niche of the market- the katana. What if it doesn't stand up? Good for us to know but- not so great for Laney. You have to consider all the R&D, advertisement, design work, etc. that went into making this line of amps- if it tanked, that probably wouldn't shut Laney down, but it would be one helluva blow.
@@stoneysdead689 The amps were announced before the shootout video was released. Andertons just hadn't released a video on them yet. I agree that a first look during a shootout wouldn't be very polite, but having including them in a shootout after their debut video wouldn't be so bad if they really sound good. The features and the sounds from the Laney amps seems great, so they might have done really well in the shootout. But now we don't get to hear them compared to their competitors like many potential buyers might want.
@@stoneysdead689 this is not really a katana competitor, and the katana didn't even do well in that video.
Oh my god. That little segment of hey little girl was hilarious. 😂😂😂 Very good review guys. Thanks.
Great jam chaps. These amps sound fantastic!
That G&L is beautiful!
These are the cleanest tones that make me happy. Liquid 80s gold.
Good, simple, and no apps - sounds good to me!! Just the way I like it....might have to pick one of these up soon!
These do sound really good!
Tried a friend's 2X12 and I was really impressed. Very handsome, well built amp. The clean and low gain sounds were very good. Wasn't as keen on the higher gain sounds. Bit fizzy. Works great as a pedal platform. Plenty loud enough to gig with plus that vertical cab looks so cool. Seriously tempted. Would love to see a 100w head version.
a little bit of treble, a little bit of bass
a little bit of metal, oz's happy place
New drinking game, every time in any Andertons video that Pete says “ sounds great man “ take a shot. We’d be more sizzled than the guys in a yeah mad dad jokes video 😮
Lees Playing has gotten so much better in the last year. Keep it up man
I agree, his timing has improved most notably
I was thinking the same thing. His phrasing in particular has improved a lot.
@@MikeP-xd6je I think playing with Pete so much has had him up his game.
Also the jettison of the “GREEEEEETINGS EGO” has helped. Lee now has space to be himself rather than have to bow down to all that unbearable unmusical shredding nonsense.
@@sundaynightdrunk That makes a lot of sense. Working with talented people will drive you to improve your game in just about every endeavour, provided you have the right attitude. Clearly this has helped The Captain.
I've been a fan of Laney For years, they just make great amps!
My first ever amp was a solid state Laney that was an absolute tank. It got gigged extensively for years, bashed up, drinks spilt on it, then sat in a shed for about a decade. Plugged it in a while back and it still works perfectly. Hats off to the factory it came out off, they built that thing to last. I would put money on it surviving WW3. The world will be inherited by cockroaches an' me aul Laney! 😊
The Laney Lionheart is an amazing amp. These amps sound Hi-Fi....buttery yet glassy EL84 tone in spades.
This and the Hiwatt Leeds is the right direction for a new era of Solid State amplifiers. 12" speakers, loud enough to gig with, amazing valve-like Mosfet,/Jfet circuitry and not the horrible OpAmps or unreliable DSPs that are both let down on tone, and on top of all that; AFFORDABLE!
I've been calling for stuff like this for years and I'm happy to see two products with the same current of design within a year. Marshall sold Mosfet JCM800 in the 80s and those were awesome, 99% the same tone from their valve brothers. I would pick an amp like this over any modeller or the unjustifiable expense of a valve amp. (unless its a Lichtlaerm Prometheus)
Great sound for a solid state amp!
Laney have really upped their game the last few pedals. Whether that’s their valve amps, pedals and now analogue amps. I’ve a cub-supertop and it’s amazing value for money! If I was starting out again or looking for a change I’d definitely look at Laney 🙌
These don’t sound too bad! Nice playing Lee! 🎸
The built-in D.I. tones are absolutely killer.
that might be my favourite thing about these as well. So many amps didn't manage to get a hardwired built in Di right in the past so that most guitarists sneer at any DIs without a customizable digital IR loader, but I think these sound great! And there is nothing more convenient for live application than a simple DI that just works and you can reliably give to FOH. Such an underated but killer feature
Sounds practical for gigging. A simple, inexpensive, portable amp that takes pedals well that has a good DI. The small amp should be great for a stage monitor with the DI out to the mains. Might have to try this.
@@mkrj2576 you betta you betta Y.o.u_B.e.T !!!!
Liking the 2x12 on its end , rather than 2 side by side , much easier to fit on small stage / area in pub , plus better projection , nice amps 😊👍
Lovely tone Lee! Actually preferred it to Pete’s tone in the intro ❤ (Pete still gets an Honoré-ble mention though!)
Not buying the product in the video but always clicking to watch the intro and outro jam!
Im happy to see solid state coming back. I have both. I prefer my solid state. And when I play bass I have both, but prefer solid state.
ADA Amplification that made the MP-1 preamp in the 90's also made 2x12 Vertical cabinets where you could combine 4 of them and have a full 4x12 stack. there is adverts where it shows them. that was the first time i seen vertical 2x12 speaker cabinets.
The amp sounds really good. Would have had me sold if the channel switching, effects and boost were all controlled by the foot switch. Your playing and banter were great as always though!
I got that pink ibanez but with upgraded gotoh bridge and gotoh locking tuners, beatiful guitar that with those upgrades!
Sunn Solarus 2x12" Combo 1968, I had one. It was great!
I love both channels. The banter on the original channel is fun. I learn a lot about the gear.
Nice to see Pete playing an AZ. Love mine!
Just got the Tom Quayle Lionheart loudpedal. Such a great sounding portable amp!
It’s Pete’s cold Colombian, or domestic?
SNIIIIFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!
For me the king of this solid state amps is the peavey bandit. I’ve tried a few of them over the years and I was always able to get great sounds out of them
NICE !!!!! a new video lets get it !!
i already have a ironheart loud pedal as a backup amp for reheasal, jams and even gigs, as well as a katana for home play and pedals, so I'm not in the market for this thing but man, would this thing have been out when I was - or if I had to substitute for either one of those applications - I'd take one of these in a heartbeat. What I really like about the laney foundry series is how all the features are designed with a band and live playing musician in mind (compared to, let's say, a katana which is brilliant for home playing musicians). the switch is actually very useful for setting up in a reheasal room or stage - depending on where the amp is and how far you are from it, it adjusts the sound very effectively to compensate the loss of frequencies or the emphesis by all the other stuff going on around you. the DIs they built into these are decent and I already used them to FOH several times.
Great job Laney. Looks like a great little work-horse combo. I like the smallest one. Is the power amp class-D like the Loudpedal amps?
This is basically my 1990s Fender Power Chorus
That ASAT is gorgeous!
Chappers needs to take notes.😊
😂😂😂 I'm with Pete on the Fire lyrics that was hilarious
I've always liked that G&L tele
Kind of reminds me of the old Peavey TransTube analogue (solid state :) ) amp, without the heavy distortion capability.
Very nice.
Wow. These should sell. I know I'd like one.
My old Laney gc30 was the best amp I've ever had, I miss it a lot. If guitars can have soul, then so can amps and I think Laney have always had it by the bucket load
These sound great! I definitely can relate to wanting a simplified setup. I have and love the Boss Katana 50 but I basically use 1 amp sound for everything and use my pedalboard if I want more gain etc. I basically use the Katana as an analog amp. I think the Fender Tonemaster range of digital amps would have made more sense if they were all analog like these. Maybe a Hot Rod Deluxe Tonemaster? 🤔
I would love n to hear a comparison between these, the venerable Marshall MG series and the Orange Super Crush.
A few years back I got a laney vc30 1x12 for €200 used. Sounds savage. What a good deal
I bought a Laney VC30 2x12 years ago and liked it a lot. I then bought a Marshall Origin 50 and gigged with it for years. I then went back to the Laney for a gig a few weeks ago and fell in love with it all over again. It's fudgin' heavy though!
Mesa Boogie have been producing 2x12 vert cabs for years 🤘
The LF60-112 is the perfect home amp. It does everything from surf to doom.
Sounds lika alot of value. Really cool
The edge of breakup and mild crunch tones are unexpectedly great but it gets a bit fizzy as the gain rises, as one would expect from solid state.
If I were in the market for a new amp, these would be on the list of potential candidates fot sure.
I'm also interested in the Hiwatt solid state offerings. A Laney, Hiwatt, Orange solid state shootout would be cool. Hell, throw a Marshall MG in there for sh!ts and giggles. ( I still secretly love my old MG... don't tell anyone, though).😊
Pete's mucus situation is always notable! lol
Got one. Played around with it for three hours. Sent it back. Amongst other things there's a distinct fizziness to the drive sounds which could not be dialled out.
just the on board drive or with pedals as well?
@@spacejazz6272 I didn't get as far as pedals. I was looking for an amp that didn't need them.
That's cheap analogue drive circuits for you. Marshall MG and Orange Crush sound fizzy too. The best sounding analogue combo I've ever used was a TECH 21 Trademark, but they've stopped producing amps altogether due to "exorbitant component price increases". You're better off using the clean channel with decent-quality analogue drive pedals.
Me too! I'm sending mine back, there's this strange fizzy frequency that is always there no matter what kind of gain I add
They kind of remind me of Tech 21, when they came out with their amps in the early 2000s..
They were very good sounding amps.
I still love my Trademark 60.
I love the design of those amps. I don't need one right now because I'm going direct with my setup, but if I was looking for an amp, this would be on top of my list.
What always annoyed me, is that if you're not in the market for a tube amp, your only choice was basically either a cheap looking (and often sounding) solid state amp, or "a cut down modeller with a speaker" (sometimes good like Katana, sometimes very bad like Marshall Code or most of the others), and... that's it. There are only a few companies on the market that treat solid state amps seriously. You can get nice sounding products that look like a "real amp" from Quilter, or Boss (Blues Cube/Jazz Chorus) or DV Mark (their Jazz amps) but the list of companies that make "great sounding solid state amps that look like a real amp" is weirdly small.
Lionheart nails the aesthetic, and only includes the digital elements that really matter which are:
1) Reverb.
2) Direct out with IR and option to bypass it (direct outs with "analogue cab simulation" that you can't bypass always sound terrible as soon as you start adding dirt, IRs are so much better in that regard).
Even though I don't need it, I almost want to buy the amp just to vote with my wallet for more similar products.
I have an OG (all tube) Lionheart, a beast
still miss my laney metal core 120, so loud it was insane. good enough for any indoor gig. It was a bug**r to lug around though. I put wheels on all my amps or speakers now.
I just bought the 2x12 on your website a moment ago. I love the concept, and this brand has always been good value for money. I think they've really outdone themselves with this one, especially if it's lightweight. There's nothing better than a guitar amp that sounds great and isn't too heavy on the back.
However, I had a small question. I bought it, but I live in France, so I asked your team if they could kindly include an adapter from UK plug to European plug. I was wondering if the adapter would be sufficient and if it wouldn't risk damaging my electrical system or the amp?
Are these designed to work with European plugs if I just add a simple adapter?
Thank you again for everything you do. I follow almost all your videos.
I bought a different Laney amp and it came with a standard UK plug cable and additionally an EU plug cable. Looking at the images of these amps, it uses a standard IEC cable which should be easily available (same cable used for a computer monitor, for example).
That's an enormous tubeless elephant in the room.
Should I replace my Katana 100 mk2 with one? Cheers!
Can you use the internal speaker with an external amp????
Is it worth going up to the super60 112 if not recording or gigging? Or just stick with the cheapest one for home use?
These shoot me back to Rabea and Matt Sounds Like. These would have been a popular choice like the Marshall.
Laney. How bout a lionheart foundry with a 3rd channel from the iron heart.
Would be unbeatable then. Clean, mild drive to heavy.
Sounds great.
Sounds better than the Katanas. Having an effects loop makes it the choice over the Boss amps.
I would like Anderton's to compare the Roland Blues Cube Hot or Stage to these Laney amps. The prices are VERY different. The Blues Cube Lee picked as his favorite small amp in the TUBE AMP challenge is all analog solid state. Do these Laney amps sound as good or better for hundreds of dollars less?
Impressive.
That little amp and the Ibanez...sounds like THAT and costs, what? 650 bucks? 700? What a time to be a guitarist!!! Awesome!!
@andertons can you please do an episode on expression/volume pedals and devices. ❤ thank you
I have a older laney and it's very tame clean and it needs playing on 3/4 vol . I use it with electric accoustic with a little eq and it sounds OK.
Much prefer my fender delux
Looking for an affordable amp to practice (room or headphones), to jam at appartment-friendly volume, and possibly louder jams/gigs.
I was leaning toward the Blackstar Debut 50R when I discoverd this Laney. Any key differences ?
And more specifically, how does the 5W mode of the Blackstar compare to the 1W mode of the Laney? Is 1W enough to enjoy playing (possibly with someone), or is it limited to room practice ?
Thanks.
I like Lee's and Pete's playing. But i'd like to see Lee Wrathe from the Ironheart Lead- and Dualtop Video on that Amps. ;-)
Nice Deno and Review guys! Can you tell me where I can get a Cover for the 1x12 super 60 in the US?
Stereo 1x12... Magic
Do not forget the all tube lc 15, a beast and an angel in one? I have been in studio's where they where nr. One to go....... try it and get happy! 🎯
Hey Lee there's something in that cab size thing you mentioned that resonated with me. There is definitely a science in matching a 12" speaker with cab size and design. (or actually 'tuning' as you put it) It would be easy for manufactureres to use a little more cheap timber and tolex to make it appear bigger... but is that actually undoing the science? I have an old Fender Automatic SE 25W solid state amp that just cranks and does incredible cleans, but the speaker only just fits in there. Different amp completely I know, but smaller cab design. I'm adding a vote for the 'tuning'.
if you're interested, check out a video by Jim Lill called "Tested: where does tone come from in a speaker cab?" Very interesting video.
@@tomcarmody5471 ah ha. Styrofoam cab it is then! Thanks.
Can we get an Anderton's 3? All of the talk and none of the tone?
Aaaaah!!! I said yes this morning to repair my studio pro 112 for 100€!!
When did a solid state amp start being called All - Analog? Reminds me of the years long campaign Taylor has used referring to it's laminated back and sides as layered.
Lee's playing is getting F. awsome.
This is their answer to Blackstar's Debut 50. Wow, now I can't decide which one I'm getting for Christmas. Can you help me guys?
when will you start shipping to india?
"...for a blues dad..."
lol you have the target market pegged 🤣
HAHAHA! Springsteen bit is hilarious!
Can you please give us more information about the Victory Amplification line of products??
Throwin' shade on The Boss! lol
These amps sounds great. Laney is making very good product also attached with the new tom Quayle signature pedal.
Also does any one have the link for the used backing track ?
I'm pretty impressed by these. I think a big part of the appeal is that they're not digital. The digital amps with all the effects and amp models built in certainly have their place, but not everyone wants/needs all that extra stuff. I just want a nice amp I can play at home with my pedals etc and not endlessly dick around looking for a tone like I do with the Fender Mustang.
