I can confirm that he didn't mean it in a bad way, we get backhanded compliments so much from other men that we just can't even take a genuine compliment seriously from a woman. I am an above average looking joe but I do actually get complimented a lot from women at work or in public and sadly because I have a bad attitude I don't take them serious lol so don't feel bad.. we just deal with a lot so we don't take it seriously
I actually do get complimented a lot. It’s always about the same thing though, which is my style. Total strangers always go out of their way to tell me I have a nice outfit all the time. I feel like it’s bc there aren’t a lot of guys with good fashion sense but it still happens almost everyday. Besides that, I only remember a few other compliments. A few times people have told me I have nice hair. Just recently someone told me I was pretty out of nowhere. And people sometimes say I have nice lips or they wish they had my lips. I notice the difference between guys and girls getting complimented though. I have a sister a couple years younger and people always say we look like twins but even as children, people would tell my sister her freckles were cute or she was adorable. Nobody ever said anything about me though. Even now, we still look almost exactly like each other and people always tell my sister she’s beautiful and stuff. When I finally had the guts to tell my crush (now boyfriend ❤) that I thought he was cute it was priceless. He stopped in the middle of the street and gave me a massive hug lifting me in the air. The compliment part is really true. This girl i'm hanging out with and I were talking about gym and training and I was talking about how I wanted to get bigger. She subtly said "you already look so beautiful, I wonder how will you look when you get bigger". Man, I still smile to this day when I remember this
The compliment thing is one hundred percent true. I NEVER get complimented not even the tiniest things like my shoe or the color of my shirt. Also, for me personally, I think the "being funny and making them laugh" move goes both ways, I really like a funny girl.

The compliment part is so true, I remember when my first girlfriend said my dark eyes were so pretty and made her fall in love with me. It didn't work out after 1,5 years due to various reasons, but that's still the best compliment I've ever gotten and I'll never forget it

This is just entertainment. I don't take it seriously. What I WOULD take seriously is someone who has sustained a happy relationship with the opposite for some extended period, at least 5 years. Otherwise, I could end up in a bad spot.

As a man, this only works if I'm already attracted to the girl talking to me. A girl complimenting me wouldn't make me like that girl automatically, just a little confidence boost because yeah guys don't get compliments often. Best way to get a guy to like you from a guy's perspective is be normal and natural. If he like you, cool if he does also cool just move on to the next one. Its not a bad thing to make the first move but making the first move doesnt always lead to pulling the guy.

Making the first move is no probs for me, I wanna get his digits but his friends are around and I don't wanna make it awkward for him. The first few times he was alone by himself, wish he would get alone again.

If I don't know you and you start off with a compliment, your personality and body language will immediately give me a reaction. If the reaction is good, the compliment will add to it. @@finix7762 define "flirt". I'm married. My wife is bi, and has an external relationship of sorts that I support. I have a naturally flirty personality, and my wife is fine with that. Just wanted to be clear on my approach to this, because even though I still flirt, everyone involved knows I'm happily married and it's not going anywhere. Before I was married I also had the same kind of issue as you described. I flirted with a lot of people in a friendly way. I had to learn to define what I thought was flirting, and what other people might inturpret as something more. For me, flirting is generally in the form of complimenting, banter, things of that nature. I rarely engage in physical activity (holding hands or rubbing feet), because for me, that is much more intimate. As I engage in these flirtatious encounters, I gage the response of the individual. If they seem to be more into it then I am, I immediately back off, and establish boundaries of what I can or cannot do with that individual. Some people take compliments as expressions of affection far more intimately than intended. Some people are simply desperate for attention. If you don't have the mental energy to engage with that, you must think of your mental health first. It took me a long time and a lot of stress and depression to realize that some people care more about how good they feel about themselves then they care about how much they are draining those around them. If you start flirting with someone, and they come back a bit too strong, let them know that you don't actually feel attracted to them. Use those words. Tell them you flirt in a friendly way, and let them know that you didn't intend to lead them on. Then, stop flirting with them. Set boundaries for yourself with that individual. Generally, I have found that even people who are desperate for attention or affection respond fairly well to clear communication, and understand that you may not have intended what they interpreted. And if you encounter those who think that because you are flirty, they can just expect more of you...sorry, but you don't owe anyone anything. A good friend will understand that. So after COVID when school reopen there is this girl whom I never talk to before literally said to me that after COVID you look like a literally different person. Yup. Guys are so starved of compliments and attention. I don't really get any compliments from girls but guys tend to compliment me a lot more. I tend to dress very well. Often times very classy. Ok the part about guys never getting compliments is so true. Outside of my family I can only remember one time where I got a compliment…..like no one has ever just walked up to me and said something like my hair looks nice or my eyes are amazing or anything like that. The one time I got a complement was from the AMAZING girl I had been going to school with for years and I told my friends that I really liked her and they told her and a lot of other stuff happened and she once told me that whenever she looks at me all she could see was my eyes sparkling every if we were inside and my hair was the perfect color. Not a 99.99 percent chance at all. Depends on if the guy is initially attracted. There is a many other factors too especially when older. Beliefs, morals, phase in life. I definelty avoid a decent percent of approaches for varying reasons in my life.
So women don't compliment men? That's so confusing to me because I feel like women are always talking about how handsome men are. They usually will just stare at the guy and smile and laugh like 3rd graders lol. And when they do compliment a guy they’ll usually be like “I like ur jacket” or “nice hair”. They beat around the bush instead of coming out and saying. “Hey I think ur cute.” Etc. I’ve never had a woman say to me “hey ur attractive” the always just flirt with me in hopes by giving me compliments such as the ones listed above. From my experience most introverted man do not get complimented, because womans tend not to talk to them that much for different reasons. (maybe they are shy, or they feel like he is unaproachable idk, i am not a woman). I myself did not get a lot of compliments even from my past partners, but it is different now. I started going out more often and i get compliments sometimes. It also depends on the personality of the man and how good looking he is. The hottest guy i know gets complimented 10 to 20 times more, than the average joe. Well I dated someone for 3 years, complimenting him, loving him, and supporting him through every thick and thin, and suddenly 3 week back his ex (whom he had a fling with just for few months) moved in my city, and the next thing I know that he blocked me out of nowhere (few days before my birthday, which was few days back... and I got to know about his affair on my birthday, so yeah it sucks) and is with his ex right now, they are planning to get married soon 😄

I have a sister a couple years younger and people always say we look like twins but even as children, people would tell my sister her freckles were cute or she was adorable. 1: mutual attraction.
If I don't know you and you start off with a compliment, your personality and body language will immediately give me a reaction. If the reaction is good, the compliment will add to it.
If I do know you, I have to already have an attraction to you. Compliments will not change that. I have already assessed your personality and compatibility to me. If I like you, compliments are a great way to start off! If I'm not attracted to you, sure, compliments are nice, but it will rarely change my level of attraction.
2: desperation.
If I'm starving for a relationship, it's an easy win. It also won't be a great relationship. It's built on the wrong foundation.
If you are desperate...guys see that. And it's not attractive. Now, complimenting or making the first move...but actively pursuing without reciprocation...that's a red flag. If the guy doesn't respond after two or three compliments...he's likely not attracted to you. And that's fine. I'm married. My wife is bi, and has an external relationship of sorts that I support. I have a naturally flirty personality, and my wife is fine with that. Just wanted to be clear on my approach to this, because even though I still flirt, everyone involved knows I'm happily married and it's not going anywhere.
Before I was married I also had the same kind of issue as you described. I flirted with a lot of people in a friendly way. I had to learn to define what I thought was flirting, and what other people might inturpret as something more.
For me, flirting is generally in the form of complimenting, banter, things of that nature. I rarely engage in physical activity (holding hands or rubbing feet), because for me, that is much more intimate.
As I engage in these flirtatious encounters, I gage the response of the individual. If they seem to be more into it then I am, I immediately back off, and establish boundaries of what I can or cannot do with that individual. Some people take compliments as expressions of affection far more intimately than intended.
Some people are simply desperate for attention. If you don't have the mental energy to engage with that, you must think of your mental health first. It took me a long time and a lot of stress and depression to realize that some people care more about how good they feel about themselves then they care about how much they are draining those around them.
If you start flirting with someone, and they come back a bit too strong, let them know that you don't actually feel attracted to them. Use those words. Tell them you flirt in a friendly way, and let them know that you didn't intend to lead them on. Then, stop flirting with them. Set boundaries for yourself with that individual.
Generally, I have found that even people who are desperate for attention or affection respond fairly well to clear communication, and understand that you may not have intended what they interpreted.
And if you encounter those who think that because you are flirty, they can just expect more of you...sorry, but you don't owe anyone anything. A good friend will understand that. If they don't, and if they get upset...how good of a friend are they really?

From my experience most introverted man do not get complimented, because womans tend not to talk to them that much for different reasons. Well I dated someone for 3 years, complimenting him, loving him, and supporting him through every thick and thin, and suddenly 3 week back his ex (whom he had a fling with just for few months) moved in my city, and the next thing I know that he blocked me out of nowhere (few days before my birthday, which was few days back... and I got to know about his affair on my birthday, so yeah it sucks) and is with his ex right now, they are planning to get married soon 😄
