I was chasing the 15, but landed on this at a more reasonable price. I am definitely happy with what I ended up with and hopefully I might get to try the 15 and compare the two at some point!
@@McIntyresMaltsHopefully you can find it. I haven't tried the 15 but at least according to Rob @WhiskyInThe6 the 12 even at lower abv is perhaps a better expression, although neither will be bad just different.
Great video and review, cheers. I got one of these at the auction last year, I paid around £90, which probably wasn’t far off the RRP. I’ve not opened it, but with my 66th birthday looming, it will get cracked then, looking forward to it 🎉
I love my Hazelburn 10 it’s definitely on my permanent shelf but I can find that expression here Est Canada Now I know that I should keep on searching, thanks for that nice review (again) cheers 🥃👍
Loving the “First Time Tasting” reviews. I love the passion in your voice when explaining the intricacies of each dram. This one is another that’ll be hard to get as I’m not prepared to pay the exorbitant prices we have for these at the moment so may have to wait some time before getting to taste one of these. Slàinte Mhath 🥃
My first bottle of anything from the Springbank distillery was the 2017 Hazelburn 13 Oloroso. The first third of the bottle I wasn't sure as I was still in Speyside back then and had never had anything with the funkyness. Once I was halfway through I was all in, started tracking down Springbank 12 CS and their was no turning back. Cheers Wade
I have both the 2006 and 2008 15y old and this one. I think they are an excellent example of how important the type and especially the quality of the cask is in conjunction with the distillate.
haha, what a great review Wade. Loved the passion and the actual legit helpful descriptors..... also the 'i love whisky' moment was super relatable. I had a similar moment last weekend when i tried Laphroaig 10 Cask strength for the first time.. i managed to tweak just the right amount of water.. and my god... what an incredible whisky... had to admit its the best i have ever had. Have you tried the Laphroaig 10 CS yet? (as i know you are a laphroaig fan.....)
Believe it or not I have not yet tried the CS version of Laphroaig 10! I have a few batches of it and am planning to do it on camera for the first time, perhaps for my 100th review? Very much looking forward to it 😉
Great review as always Wade, you are very passionate :-). I do not have the 12 year old but I do have the 15. Saving it for Christmas....maby 🙂 probably not. I have one thing i wish you could do though, and that is that you gave the whisky a grade. maby on the 100 scale. that would give me and maby more people something to compare your thoughts and pallet with others. and see if you have the same Idea as others. Makes it easier to decide if it is worth going after the whisky your reviewing.
Thank you mate, I see the approach you are coming from here in comparing my thoughts against others on a similar point scale to help you make your buying decisions. I have actively avoided scoring whiskies to try and seperate my approach from everyone else, hence the focus on visual aspects that enhance the viewers understanding of the flavours in the whiskies I review. You can be confident if I "Approve" a whisky it's one worth buying 😉
Excellent review, Wade. I was fortunate to get a bottle of this earlier this year, and the NZ retail (mostly ballot, but just occasionally sometimes also on a shelf) was much less than your cited retail price. I know your alcohol taxes differ from ours but there's still a *lot* of gouging in what you pay retail, let alone secondary. So sad. Especially as none of that goes to Springbank themselves, only pocketed by greedy distributors/retailers. Unlike others I don't feel the need for points/marks on whiskies. When reading a review (whiskybase, dramface) it's the words/description that I seek, not a mark. /shrug/ I very much enjoy your descriptions and use of images to help convey those.
Thank you my friend, definitely agree we are getting rinsed along the supply chain on Springbank offerings sadly. Appreciate your thoughts on offering scores on whiskies too. I have deliberately and actively avoided doing so because: 1. Everybody else does it 2. Everybody seems to change their score format after a while as their experience changes 3. There really isn't any point in a score out of 100 when everyone rates everything between 80-95 anyway 🤷♂️ 4. Someone else's point system may not reflect my thoughts, and I end up avoiding a whisky I may find fantastic because someone else gave it a low rating on their scale I much prefer sharing with the audience the only thing that matters IMO - is it worth drinking / buying or not! The value is in the flavours the whisky offers us as drinkers, not the score I give it 😉 Cheers mate!
Love your reviews, but I hope no one is willing to pay the secondary market prices here in Australia. The more that gets bought at that price, the more the flippers will buy and the higher the price will get.
Thank you mate. People are definitely paying those prices, I see them at auctions moving for that, and some retail attempt this too. It does feel like the hype is starting to calm down here, hopefully we are on course for better prices and greater accessibility too
Hello, I like your content very much. If you can give a score out of 100 for the whiskey you tasted at the end of the videos, I think content will reach more people and become more enjoyable. Thus, we will wait for the end of the videos more excitedly. enjoy your whiskey :)
Appreciate your thoughts my friend and do see the value in building suspense until the end by revealing a score. I have deliberately and actively avoided doing so because everyone else does this and I chose to focus on the visual aspects by expressing the flavour experience with you instead. Perhaps I can come up with a combination of the two that isn't the same as everyone else. Will think about it over a dram or two! Cheers 🥃
I was lucky enough to try the 15 year old. Unbelievable dram, one of my all time favourites. If only I could get a bottle of it at RRP

Happy birthday for then Alfie! A great reason to open it and celebrate 🥳🥃
Thanks for reviewing Wade
Sherry matured is not my preference, but this one certainly appeals to a lot of whisky lovers.

Personally I prefer port over sherry, but there is no denying what this whisky has to offer in terms of quality. Cheers my friend!

Thanks, Wade. I enjoyed this video just as much as you did with your passionate tasting notes.

Great review Wade. I also am lucky to have been able to secure a bottle in Australia.Your descriptors are perfect. Keep the reviews coming. Cheers

Love that story! It's so much fun exploring these expressions 🥃
Lovely review, thank you. I don't think i can get my hands on this bottle, but I'll try to taste it at my local bar. Cheers 🥃
If you can try at a bar I most certainly recommend tasting it!
Got to try this last week and wasn’t disappointed. Bats well above its age.
Doesn't it!!

Thank you for this review. I just ordered a bottle. Really looking forward to it!
Hope you enjoy it!
I just finished the bottle, one of the best whisky's I ever had 😋
I have 2 bottles of the Hazelburn 15 CS 2023... it is absolutely amazing. Thinking about grabbing g a 3rd. Lol
It’s like that when you find something great isn’t it!?
Would love to try it but there’s zero chance it can be found anywhere in my market
What market are you in my friend?
