Hi
Fantastic
Watching this as a german makes me feel incredibly talented with languages.
Wait till you meet an Indian 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. We basically know more than 3 or 4 language since our teen.
@@arainalfc Its true I know 3 languages
I know 5 languages already. L'anglais, Französisch, Deutsch, Swahili und Chinesische und die niveau ist sehr gut für alle außer Chinesische, ich habe sie für Jahren gelernt, gesprochen und sogar unterrichtet .
@@Da_Gee all that learning and you use it to tell people who don't care in youtube comments for which you'd only needed english eh
@@pnksmigge5324 das ist egal bei mir 😅
As a German watching this out of interest and boredom I can say:
Best video to learn German EVER. 99.99% correct and to the point. This video alone could save you 3 months of learning.
Advise: do not overly focus on the letter R thing. We don't care ;-) We go mad if you say Porschee lol
Thank you very much. That is so good to hear.
Or "Porsh".
Not everything follows the English pronounciation dictum.
I go a little crazy. Mainly because that's the one non-German speakers make all dramatic like they're about to cough up phlegm. Not always. If they're super serious about it they won't. But if they're learning... I want to slam my head against a wall.
@@fuckthisshit504
1) weird
2) it's not weird, it's just another language. If you always get a foreign languages with that hostile attitude you won't find any help.
@@fuckthisshit504 This is the fukn interwebz, you can't offend me personally. Only very poor asshole patridiots get offended. And calling natural sounds of any language odd is as bad as calling it weird. If the ig in German sounds odd to you, then please don't even come close to Netherlands. Their g sounds like an inflammated throat. But please, I beg you, don't ever mention it in a Dutch language course. Else they too would think your attitude stinks.
And this is how you teach a language. So many other teachers of German here just read words and phrases and then read the English translation. It becomes a game of memorisation. You give enough context to make it possible for someone to actually extend the knowledge or combine knowledge to handle never-before-encountered situations. This is awesome.
I agree with you......😊
.... I came across this lesson when I was searching for absolute beginner's lessons for the German language
this was more of a struggle for me because most of the channels that showed up needed someone who had an encounter with the language.
I was starting from scratch, alone on UA-cam. I needed the vowels and how to differentiate them when the sounds are similar and a bit more intricate parts of speech in the language📚📖
.... among all the channels, this one has been more specific and detailed, carefully articulating the key components and consonants and much deeper than I could ever imagine. 💯
I am so grateful for this channel👏👏👏

Hey man, just wanted to say that even though I'm learning German for a bit over a year, and made quite a lot of progress, I've still managed to find so much usefull information that, somehow, I haven't stumbled upon so far.
I can only thank you for the effort put into making this, and remember that your work is appreciated by many.
Thank you for the kind words. It is always nice to hear that I have made a difference. I wish you the best in your German learning. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you along the way.
@@MrLAntrim I have a query regarding learning languages generally. From what I understand, often its the case that the pronunciation and tone in which a non native person speaks their chosen language will be influenced by the teachers native or second language. For instance, if as you do, speak English with an American tone and pronunciation, will I as the learner generally take on those influences in the case of learning the German language? If this is the case, should we not learn German from a person who speaks English with the desired intonation, such as with an English, Australian or indeed American intonation?
If your only goal is to mimic native speakers' pronunciation, tone and intonation, sure. My caution would be that many native speakers don't have experience learning their own language and therefore have trouble relating when learners struggle with topics that they find simple as a native speaker.
@@MrLAntrim I will just like to say thank you

Doing German this way you make it boring for bigginers. Much better to just listen to a native and repeat. You can learn this at a later date.
Imagine how hard it is for us the spanish speakers to learn this language and specially with the explanation in English 🤣🤣 it means that I need to use my English skills to understand German ✨✨ Is complicated but never impossible :D
Poor spanish speakers. In total, German has 13 different vowel sounds, Ive seen so many Spanish speakers struggle with it, lol. Also, so many consonants are different: B, D, G, H, J, K, P, R, S, T, V, W, Z. I'm just so happy it was the other way around for me.
I'm a native spanish speaker and don't ask me why, but it's insanely easier to learn german en english than en spanish :/

This was so informative. I am at a B1 level (according to the Goethe Placement test). I spent about a week watching this in entirely. I also wrote things down and I felt so much better with my German. Especially with forming sentences and understanding sentences, conjugated verbs, etc. I felt like this was a great refresher for me and I feel much more confident in my German skills. My partner is German and he also says that I know more than what I think I know. Which I believe is true. I do have a lack of confidence with German. I have so far lived in Germany for 6 months (Will be going back soon - hopefully). I truly love the language, I miss hearing it, even at times I said things wrong, or I got flustered because I try so hard to understand and speak back but it doesn't come out so grammatically correct (unlike my English). But I still try and try again. I hope to gain fluency in the language, live and work in Germany. It truly feels like home to me.
I cannot thank you enough for the work you put into your videos, you deserve so much views and recognition.
I really feel like I finally understand German more than I did. Especially on the Grammar terms.

Guten Tag, Herr Antrim. I start from the beginning. Since I have no background. Thank you. Danke schön.
Thank you. Just found you on YT. I studied German when I was in the navy and we were slated to go to Hamburg. I am entirely self-taught and thus I take all the credit, or as the case may be, the blame. Other than Guten Tag, Guten Abent, and Auf wiedersehn, the only thing I remember from those dim and dusty days are, Wie viel costet der kohl. Hope to rectify that starting now. Also subbed.
Good luck and let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Okay, I have watched numerous Learn German videos here on UA-cam!
I am only 12 minutes into this video and feel I wasted so much time until now!
This is without a doubt the BEST and can see how much it will help as I listen to the end.
Thank you so much Herr Antrim!!!
Herr Antrim, thank you for all the effort you put into teaching in your videos! After I finished the German course on Duolingo, I realized I had a basic grasp of the language, but still not enough vocabulary to be able to read German children's books, or really feel comfortable having a real time dialogue with my friend in Germany. Your videos, as well as some of the channels you recommended, have helped me understand a lot of the why's and how's of the language that I didn't pick up from Duolingo.
Your video about spelling and pronunciation (especially regarding ridiculously long compound words) actually brought me to a question: can ANY German nouns be used to form a compound word, or are there notable exceptions? And are there specific rules when making a compound word? I've noticed some that seem to have extra letters between the individual nouns.
Thanks again, looking forward to more videos! Keep up the good work!
As a German this is really well explained! I’m sure it helps a lot to learn it!
I'm sure these videos take forever to make, but I am hoping you are making a B1/B2 video soon! I have purchased your A1 book and will purchase your A2 book when I got to that level. This is by far the best resource I've seen so far for learning. Thank you!
So glad I learned using my throat to make bird calls, certainly makes the r sound a lot easier, applies well to French as well, it did feel clunky trying to use it in speech, but it's more fluid now, and that has helped me with wind instruments too, being able to stop, start, sustain and vary the speed and intensity of the trill at will.
I’m planning to move to Germany and this is super helpful, plus I recognize a lot of words and phrases from my convos with my friend. Who does not type in English, so I have to step up my German learning.
good luck! 🇩🇪
Hallo Herr Antrim, viele Grüße aus Hessen. In unserem Bundesland gibt es noch einen speziellen Gruß, den Sie Ihrer Liste vielleicht noch hinzufügen können:
Gude = Kurzform von Guten Tag
(Ei), gude wie = Kurzform von Guten Tag, wie geht's
Die zweite Variante ist allerdings nicht so häufig anzutreffen, da der Mensch in der Alltagssprache natürlich dazu neigt, die kürzeste Variante zu bevorzugen.
Thank you for this educational video lesson! 🙂
Thank you so much for this! Definitely more effective that some apps out there.
Your achievement Sir, is that one wishes to hear more and more of you, simultaneously informative and highly entertaining. If (a big IF) as a result, I succeed in learning German, it will be my first foreign language, since I learned English. If I don't, whoever's fault it might be, it emphatically won't be yours. Frank
Thank you very much. I'm glad to help. Let me know if you need any assistance along the way.
I have listened to many German lessons on UA-cam. This is the most easiest to understand.
Danke. Das freut mich.
Danke!! This (and David Bowie's 'Helden' lol) helped my pass my GER 111 final exam and I learned more here than I did in that entire class. With the pandemic, it's hard to take language courses online but this was helpful. Sie sind mein Held
!
Low key funny. And the best source of basic German on UA-cam. Keep coming back to it
