God, this is just so well made- the dialogues, the actors, the interestingly enough story that keeps you away from being bored, the lines and the script and how well it shows you what you can do with A1 level of German - this helps learners a whole ton and I find it so unbelievably generous for those involved in the production to be giving such contents for everyone for free. Further, my brain has started to recognize words though I don't understand most of them yet. I want to learn through context first. I can see that indeed this is A1 content. Props to DW for not only making a fabulous FREE course that is by far the best one of the kind, but for producing a funny, entertaining and at times incredibly moving film to go along with it.

Also the writters, producers and director made a really good job in making every situation believeble, the characters are deeper than most characters of Hollywood movies. Nico has perfect accent and is able to interpret and internalize German language and structure in a single day... ok Nico keep flexing in front of those who still struggle with remember if something is die, der, oder das...
Don't worry about die, der & das too much :) It's so random in german, u literally have to learn it for every word. Focus on the practical things you need for daily life :) good luck
If you are a french or Spanish speaker ( or any other language with a Latin origin) the concept is easier to grasp as there is a similar structure in those languages. Sorry for the rest tho :/
I don’t know which one is more fictional: Nico learning German in one day or Germans talking to a random foreigner even becoming friends all of a sudden.
Zuerst war dieser Film zu schwerig für mich, aber er hat mit zeit einfach geworden. Ich bin froh dass ich es verstehen kann. Die deutsche Sprache ist schön und ich liebe es. Viel glück wünsche ich euch!

I actually love the design that Nico has no accent. I think it's because you can't use someone with an accent as a model, especially for beginners. So I find it very thoughtful! Thank you DW for this amazing teaching series!
This is amazing learning material. I've been stuck watching kids shows in German and this is so much better. I have no idea how they make money on this kind of production quality, but I appreciate it.
This is produced by Deutsche Welle, which is public and funded by German taxes. They have a lot of other material to learn German, and also news and articles about Germany in many languages.
Download the DW app. On Duolingual I can't remember anything,. But on the DW website i feel like a genius. Be it's also captioned in German or suprise. On my TV youtube app, this video is captioned in English (it's either the video or my TV is picking up the captions)
Thank you so much DW for making this. I have watched the A1 parts about 10 times already and still watch it every day. I found your full free course with it and was completely blown away by the level of attention to detail, planning, pacing and effort that went into writing this story and structuring this course. The actors are also top-notch and likable. To be honest, after FRIENDS ended, I thought I will never again feel so attached to fictional characters again, but now I am not watching nicos weg's A2 and later parts yet, because it will make me sad to say goodbye to these characters when it ends. The course with exercises and grammar explanations is also easy to follow. I have made faster progress with this course in two weeks than I did with duolingo in a month.
Thank you very much for your positive feedback! 😊 We are delighted that you have learned German with "Nicos Weg". We hope you continue to enjoy learning German.
Really? I will try it. I detest duolingo - after learning Portuguese with it over lockdown. It pushes you and rates you. This is way better, a positive feel, with enthusiasm.

learning from videos like this is a killer mistake!! ofc you can snatch a couple of new words, but this set-up is COMPLETE BULLSHIT! Here are my 10 tips on learning german: 1. NO GERMAN SPEAKS SLOWLY FOR A GERMAN NOOB TO FOLLOW, get used to it! 2. ALMOST ALL OVER GERMANY, PEOPLE SPEAK ACCENTS, YES EVEN IN ACCADEMIC ENVIRONMENTS! this doesnt mean that you will not be able to communicate in high german, most of the people will answer in high german if you ask in high german! Nonetheless you will need time to get used to the accent to be able to understand conversations... 3. if you are planing on learning german, you should try and learn it in germany, because you are gonna be in contact with the language almost 24/7 which makes it easier and faster than learning it at home or before coming to germany. I had B2 from Goethe-Institut in my country before coming to germany to study. although i learnded german from German teachers and was the best in my class, on the first day in germany i realized that my german is a joke! yes i could understand some things and barely express myself in a weird way but frankly B2 abroad is less than A2 in germany IMO. 4. you should train your hearing, and read alot and just collect as much vocabulary as you can, if you can speak other languages just keep a record of the words and their meaning in other languages, BUT NEVER EVER TRY TO TRANSLATE WHOLE SCENTENCES!!! the german language is an art in its own right trying to translate expressions word by word would lead to confusion and weird expressions, the same applies if you are trying to translate from your mother tongue! 5. NEVER BE SHY OF ASKING WHAT A WORD MEANS OR HOW TO USE IT! Germans respect people who want to learn their language! 6. MAKE GERMAN FRIENDS! 7. MAKE GERMAN FRIENDS! 8. MAKE GERMAN FRIENDS! 9. MAKE GERMAN FRIENDS! 10. MAKE GERMAN FRIENDS! Viel Erfolg! :)
@@ilecier it's nearly impossible to act naturally when you have to speak perfect textbook German. I think the actors did a really great job. Of course it's not hollywood level acting but it's surprisingly good for a language learning film
To be fair when learning german I learned grammar and syntax before any vocab aside from basic words like hallo and even common phrases like stimmt so helped with grasping the language outside of an academic setting because I have a foundation rather than just all the building materials

I like doing German subtitles because sometimes I can’t make out the words they’re saying, but when I read it and can repeat it, it helps me so much!! Also, learning the vocab and grammar in a situation based environment is so much easier.

This is actually great. Everything is clear and understandable but still sounds natural. Of course, it may not be totally natural for native speakers but it at least doesn't treat the viewer like they are idiots. Everything is above expectations + it's free. Thank you DW.
The beauty of learning by traveling to the country or by film. I learned much more by living in Germany than by sitting in a classroom. Immersion. Although in real life it is way more confusing because people do not know how to talk so that foreigners can easily understand. These actors are amazing at portraying how Germans talk and behave even though they would normally speak much more quickly, use slang, and not enunciate as clearly, yet they make it feel natural. Excellent job on the part of the writers, production team and actors!
the scene at 16:12 is a masterpiece! You can tell that Nico is a beginner, so he says textbook stuff and saying them in a very stiff way, while Sebastian (who is a German) clearly amused by Nico's amature dialogue. These actors act really well! Thank you for this movie!!
Hint: if you want both German and English subtitles, you can select German as subtitles in Settings, and also select "Open transcript" by clicking on three dots next to "Save to playlist", which will show English subtitles in a sidebar (when video is not fullscreen). Enjoy!

Further, my brain has started to recognize words though I don't understand most of them yet. I want to learn through context first. I can see that indeed this is A1 content. Thank you very much for providing us with this free course.
Thank you for your positive feedback!
Props to DW for not only making a fabulous FREE course that is by far the best one of the kind, but for producing a funny, entertaining and at times incredibly moving film to go along with it.

This is way better than kids cartoons

Duolingo is a very slow way of learning languages i personally don’t like it at all
Really? I will try it. I detest duolingo - after learning Portuguese with it over lockdown. It pushes you and rates you. This is way better, a positive feel, with enthusiasm.
It takes talented actors to make an A1 video seem natural. Great job.

Ist richtig
learning from videos like this is a killer mistake!! ofc you can snatch a couple of new words, but this set-up is COMPLETE BULLSHIT!
Here are my 10 tips on learning german:
This is actually really well made, doesn’t feel fake or staged at all.
