I’m so impressed with your ability to delay gratification both at work and in order to earn your PhD🥳🙌🏼!!! Although I’m angry on your behalf about the lack of appreciation for your talents (which they clearly had no problem identifying, even if they refused to pay for them), I’m glad you have made it through to the other side, and are enjoying your good life!

This is so good, Dr. Ninja Turtle! I really admire you for being able to stick with your government job for 10 years with that pension in mind. When I was teaching, retirement just wasn't enough to make me stay. I took a huge pay cut and now we struggle a bit but it is so much better for us as a family. I want to hear more about your stories. Was life hard working there all day and going to school at night? How did you keep from being bitter? Your seemingly chill personality amazes me.

@@BethelBudgets I was very bitter. I had nightmares about my bosses and co-workers who treated me poorly. I was dodging bullets for 10 years. The demotion messed up the potential amount that I could have received in retirement so they got me that way, but I feel that I won by getting any pension at all. I have lived on nothing in my past, so I can stretch this tiny pension and live well. I would love to hear more of your back story. I assume everyone is rich and does not financially struggle, but me 🙂🙂🙂🙂

I’m purposefully a temp employee in the medical field. I work when I want and travel when I want. Sometimes I’ll work weeks with OT, some weeks just part time and many weeks not at all. It took me quite a while to get here, but the first major step was dramatically living below my means (which included dumping the $500K house in the suburbs for an old farm house fixer upper in the country).

After my husband and I separated, we sold our house, and now (7 years later), I don’t even have an apartment! Like you, I work when I want, travel when I want (very frugally), and see the people in my life that I love. It’s a very good life!

@@mikecarlton6297 I did the same. I have an old house in the country and I live way below my means. I do travel a lot, in my car. As the income increases, my wife and I are taking nicer vacations. I spoil her, but I am frugal with myself

@@user-bg9em7ch6k I love my life today. I would not recommend the pain that I went through to get here for anyone else, but I did the best that I could do at the time. I am grateful for the life I have today.

Jan 8, 2023, quiet quitting made absolute sense to me as the company I worked for did a lot of shady stuff against their employees. Sounds like you in the DMV like us. But before that, I tried work like balance, same thing know looking at it now, but I stopped work, and turned off computer. set my phone down and only looked at it if I had to go somewhere. If it died over the weekend, it died. I didn't answer it, regardless who it is, and I leave it in the office when I am done for the day/weekend.... now that I am retired, I have it but more for discord, music and youtube. but it is never in my bedroom or glued in my hand. Love the topic.

I love your channel and just found it. I was in the DMV. I worked in DC. As soon as both I and my wife retired, we moved out of the DMV as it is too expensive for my small pension. In fact, I bought real estate after leaving the DMV and doubled my pre-retirement income.

@@FIRE_DrNinjaTurtle thank you very much 😁as do I. We shall run away too from the DMV once my wife retires in a few years.

Great question…..profound. Your experiences with your former government employer really ticks me off, so disrespectful and unprofessional of them. Its truely shameful. I really dislike when there is absolutely no appreciation. Thanks for sharing :)

Hello Xtine, thank you for watching my channel. It was embarrassing and hard to admit. I am financially free now and traveling the country. I just made a new friend on the Palm Coast. I will have to get down to visit you and Jim. I should have my wife with me.
