raft support station is for the cranes. it not a tractor beam. there will be a mini game to lower claws to grab staged boxes. I like to use thuster power slider for landing, so get into position and slowly cut power to thrusters and you decend, its very satisfying to use rather then slamming your ship down with strafe down.
I had a raft for a while. The one thing I miss about it was the crew accommodations. It felt like a living space for long haul. It fell short in a lot of other respects, but it was hard to beat the crew quarter layout.
Happy Luminalia Olli! Also, I can see in a few years Olli's wife's wedding cake business is make more money than his UA-cam channel because Olli is always talking about how good her cakes are! Maybe she should make a Luminalia themed cake!
The support station at some point is going to be used to move the crane that is on the inside of that upper support-structure. It'll be whats used to lift/lower the cargo from the arm areas :)
Giant scu ships kinda ruins the game loop for everyone else. Go to every outpost and find the inventory very low every time because one or two people with 6 times the scu space have taken everything. Not sure how they can fix this other than maybe forcing people to bid for contracts instead of a free for all

So, about a month ago, I was cargo hauling from Shubin 22 on Microtech, to the commons. I was in my conni, so I had plenty of visiblity. However, this was before the exterior lights got a rework, and I flat out ran into a reclaimer that was already on the ground! I sold my cargo at TDD and came back out to find the reclaimer on top of my conni. At first I couldn't figure out why, but as I ran down the hill, I started to spot SCU containers all over the place! I ruined this persons profit, and I still fill bad. Great video Oli! The world needs more wedding cake!
@@Revi2151Same. Also wish at least one of their ships could store vehicles. Perhaps an Argo Barge. With a single carrier platform able to carry something up to the size of a cutlass.
3:55 Olli, those kind of airlocks in many of the ships is just a useful way to get in/out typically in non-grav space. It's a quick way to jump on straight away with more ease than using slower elevators and cargo bay doors. You could say the same for the connie's or something. Perhaps nothing crazy, especially in a ship like that which isn't too large or multi-crew really, but certainly useful in something like a Reclaimer where there's 3 airlocks all around the hab desk, or a Retaliator with many turrets to man and only 2 small elevators in the same room
its gonna be neat to fly around. its underestimated, also think of all the cargo you can store under this ship in your hanger or on the ground of your homestead without consuming space. the high armor when its added to ships will make this thing landed a mini bunker turret. chaff and not be able to be missle locked.... only down side is that you must use the max size boxes as the grid on it only holds 3 boxes you cant use each claw to hold 6 total.
I did a video on this a couple week ago about it being the worst ship since physicalized cargo, They destroyed this ship when they removed the 32 since containers, so now you have to buy cargo in sets of 32 if you want 3 different types, it's a shame really, I loved this ship. If you buy 10 scu of cargo it puts it in a claw if you buy 10 more of the same cargo it puts it on a different claw and you can't move it to the same as the other There is no tractor beam on the raft
Only half the grid on the RAFTs cargo hooks actually work when it comes to loading physical boxes. Also you can only put one box on the hooks regardless of their size. So basically if you want the 96 scu you have to buy it. If you want to salvage or loot cargo from somewhere else you can only hook up three total boxes. I love the RAFT. I own one and fly it all the time, but the drawbacks of the cargo rack and the lack of tractor beam really hurts the ship as a whole.
I hope we will get Container where we can drive Vehicle into it and transport them. I would love to switch the Small boxed out against one big one where I can put my Cyclone into it and drive around :D I know its not the purpose if the R.A.F.T but I LOVE to change the purpose from Cargo Carrier to a Daily Driver as lone wolf mercenary or so :D It looks sick, robust - no matter if its a bad Idea :D

Now that i look at it again, The raft looks like it should also be capable of pushing bulk items with the front end of the ship. You have those large bumper like items on the front. Just a thought that popped into my sleep deprived head...🤔
When you are using tractor beam, you can hold R and move the mouse around to rotate the object up/down/left/right or use the mouse scroll to rotate it.
Like the raft. Also the idea that pressing a button drops the load. The raft as a bomber. go buy some waste and drop it on some poor unsuspecting ground pounders (preferably pirates). Maybe the raft's container holders are mechanical? No tractor beam?
Not bad Two smooth landings with a space semi. Always feel like I’m going to land the cutlas like a yard dart. I like your videos you have fun exploring the details of ships & enjoy playing it.
there is no tractor beam on the Raft. The mechanical arms that hold the cargo are intended to lower to the ground and release the orange hooks at the bottom to release the cargo. Loading works in reverse.
Yeah ARGO got shafted this update. That support station is very much supposed to be the controls for the mechanical claws and the cargo tractor beam system that they put on the C1 Spirit and Caterpillar instead. The RAFT is supposed to be a support vessel for the larger HULL series C+ and higher acting as a trans-atmo dockyard freight crane for cargo ships that can't enter atmo like the Hull C+. They grab the huge cargo units from ether the freight yard or off the ship, clamp them, and shuttle them back and forth. They've also got a pretty good jump range which makes them able to move cargo independently and act as smaller freight sorters for smaller backwater dockyards that don't have the infrastructure of major ports. But they elected to hand off its capabilities to another ship instead and the Hull C isn't working properly right now.
At 0:16; I still feel that those supports should be capable of supporting six containers, not just three, but only in space. ;-) I have suggested this in "Game Ideas" (like that's going anywhere?). I can hear the fork clatter on the plate. ;-D
I buyed this ship today, and I'm loving it. Best interrior in the game. Fast acces to the bridge, I need only to test manual loading, and I wish it will be little bit faster in atmosphere because right now is terribly slow. It's light freigter after all, no freaking freight train.
Also one of my fave ships Olli. At this point i wish they'd give it the option of some huge deployable 96scu container underneath that could double as a vehicle bay.
I love the RAFT, but a lot of it's potential is still behind future updates. It has massive VTOL thrusters, so it can carry heavy stuff in and out of atmo, as the weight of cargo will have an impact later. So whether you carry gasses or heavy minerals will determine where you can and can't go with your ship, if it only has really small VTOL thrusters. It can also do vertical take off and landing on planets with more extreme gravity. Ships that rely on aero surfaces for lift, need planets with an atmosphere and a landing strip, if air speed drops too low, they'll just fall out of the sky. There is so much stuff we have yet to feel the impact of, I imagine quite a few people might get maybe a bit negatively surprised (again) at some point. That's the thing about buying ships now, gotta keep in mind what it will be for and what you want to do then. If you have the money you can buy the ships for the here and now without concern, but I'd imagine most people would want to think ahead so they don't throw 100+ dollars into the wind. The people who don't think of the future are the same ones that complain about engineering.
I was really impressed with the R.A.F.T. interior and living space. For the space they had to work with I feel like the living quarters absolutely crush any other ship out of the water in detail and feature to space ratio.
The airlock will be useful when ship to ship docking comes into the game fully or i imagine when you just quickly need to dock with a station rather than having to go through the whole pad/ hangar landing routine.

If this game were real life you wouldn't even own your own ship and get to do whatever jobs you want, you'd have to rent a ship from a corporation and if you stopped paying your subscription they'd send a killswitch that turns off your engines and oxygen.
I feel like everyone is underestimating the tedium coming with freight elevators. Yes immersion 100% but it will decimate the coffers paying for help and dont forget time/auec/hr. Though that last little bit i suspect they will increase cargo prices to accomodate but havnt heard anything so must consider current state
I've had to stop playing again. Hours of grinding rmc in my little vulture filling up the the freelancer max, last box glitched as it was going over the threshold, blew my ship up on pad, cargo everywhere. Went out grinding again, filled the max up past capacity, only a few things like gold would sell at orison, non of the rmc, so I went back to the ship moved the off grid cargo onto the grid then went to move a box that was on the grid but playing havoc with my OCD, this ended up duplicating itself infinitely as the tractor beam was pulling it up off the grid, once again ship destroyed, all cargo lost. Maybe 3 million lost and possibly 8 hours of game time, I've clipped them both but I honestly can't be bothered sending them in. Its just tiring at this point
Wish you had tried out loading it up with different size boxes. Test if it's limited to three total boxes regardless of size or if you can load it to capacity either way 🤔
It indeed is limited to what you say and you will have issues loading up to capacity when not loading in 32SCU instances. I had it work the other day, but in reality it was clipping containers. Suffice to say, the only way to go is to load stuff in 32, 64 or 96 SCU values, supply permitting. Otherwise will run into issues. Supply permitting is the issue as well, as worthwhile cargo often is in short supply and loading the RAFT up takes more time this way.
It is, I did a video not long ago in it, and if you buy 1 scu of cargo it puts it on claws and the next lot you buy does the same so in the end you can only have 3 different types of cargo if you don't buy it all in one go. Even if you buy 10 scu of cargo and then buy another 10 of the same cargo, it puts it on another claw, once you buy cargo you can not fill the rest of that claw, you can't even physically move it to the same claw
@@teaddict- Yeah, if they fix it, I would likely pledge it again. I’m afraid though they won’t fix it for some time, as this likely needs a big rework if they would convert the grapplers with a magnetic cargo grid. That also undermines the core concept of the RAFT, being able to load cargo much faster because of the grapplers.
From the pilot seat i'd say the big radar screen blocking the view is questionable in function since this is not a combat ship. I'd say that display should be removed to allow for better visibility. On the other hand they might have something else planned for that display...
I dont believe the support station is intended to be a tractor beam station, i believe on the raft it will be more like a real world dock crane for moving containers from the ground to ship and vice versa. Iirc there was a gta 5 mission that sums up perfectly what im talking about lol
I don't know if anything changed with this list for 322, but as of the 21 patch before it, the only ships in the game that had tractor beams were ARGO SRV, Nomad, Crusader Spirit C1, Drake Caterpillar, Drake Cutlass Black, Drake Vulture, Origin 315p, Constellation Taurus, MISC Hull-C, and the Aegis Reclaimer. You might notice that the RAFT is not on that list 😛I don't think it was ever in the plans for the RAFT to have a tractor beam, but I might be mistaken. And how often do you get to play that you have over 110 million credits when I've only got a little over 4 million? lol 😛
enjoy the cake, happy for you having a such a lovely wife, I am really getting into starcitizen and you are one of the reason for it. Keep creating these videos please
Don't pitch the nose so quickly and youll be able to pick up speed. Use upthrust and forward throttle. Let the pitch climb naturally rather than manualy pitching. In large ships youll notice a real difference, s2 ships can vary, my c1 could give a fuck but the freelancer definitely breaches atmo faster using this approach
Do you have any tips for getting star citizen to run well on lower end computers? It keeps saying like 3 gb out of 8 gb found, even though i have about a terabyte of data left, do i need to get physical storage?

Maybe 3 million lost and possibly 8 hours of game time, I've clipped them both but I honestly can't be bothered sending them in.
Its just tiring at this point
merry christmas. next time, show the cake!
@@NoobsGamingSC Hey Noobs o7 :)
That's a shame! Hopefully they rework it at some point, it's such a nice ship otherwise
Cake > Viewers
Also, when you add ice cream to cake, it's no longer bad for you!
Did you know that there are two landing pads behind the commons. It's where I always land.
10:00 "Imagine ..."
Precisely.
9/10 landing. Only better if uncoupled at the very end for the extra smoothness. (Cant yet do it myself lol)
Absolutely an underrated ship.
Anyone know if the rambars above the cockpit are supposed to move? They look like they're intended to serve a purpose.
engine maintenance sounds cool .
A piece of cake. Nice one Olli
anyone notice how every ship is one of his fave ships in game lmao
From the pilot seat i'd say the big radar screen blocking the view is questionable in function since this is not a combat ship. I'd say that display should be removed to allow for better visibility. On the other hand they might have something else planned for that display...
wow, thats a cool looking skybox. will that be in the next update?
Yes the RAFT! The best ship EVER !
Hey Olli, did you try holding shift while dragging things between inventories?
Do you have any tips for getting star citizen to run well on lower end computers? It keeps saying like 3 gb out of 8 gb found, even though i have about a terabyte of data left, do i need to get physical storage?
The Argo raft does not have a tractor beam what the terminal is for is it let’s you move and rotate them
Is the HUD now supposed to be that dark? I pretty much can't read it. I'm not seeing anything on the Issue Council for it. Any idea? Thanks, I'm an Argo fan as well!
