There was literally no character arc for Cleo in the new movies. She just appeared and became egocentric from the start and yes, she is kind but we only see it in spur moments, not slowly developing. She is no longer driven either and that what makes me even more sad because she was the most determined. Heath is gone and that boy literally had my heart he was so damn funny
Here is my butterfly effect in freaky fusion. First timeline: why do ghouls fall in love and ghouls rule are both movies that mentions that draculaura escaped from transelvania because of the monster hunt but kn scaris, booyork and ect. There are a monster world so my theory is... that in freaky fusion when they traveled back too monster high they made a timeline where when monster high was built the monsters have multiplied and the monster revolution has expanded but then they also created another timeline where the monsters didn’t made a revolution and the monster hunt never came to an end till ghouls rule

The dialogue went like this: Alien Girl: *answers the phone while walking to class* Alien Girl: The legends were true! The camera cuts to the phone screen and we see Apple and Raven.

I love the MH movies because they tackle very difficult to talk about topics like body positivity, racism, sexism, predatory behavior and manipulation, relationships. They do it so well and have them overcome these issues beautifully. MH was such an inspiration for me and I related to it more than I did to any Bratz or Barbie movie. I understand Monster High is trying to Target a younger audience but the movie just so confusing and they're just random events in the new movies it's just I don't like them I prefer the old ones whyyyyy😭

What was so great about the previous movies was the fact that they turned something that is often views as malicious and scary into something beautiful and admirable. They look too... I agree with you, Ghoul's rules was the best Monster High movie ever because it have the real Monster High vibes while including the fear of the humans. the great scarrier reef was the start of the decline in all the monster high movies. im australian and lagoona was always spot on in terms of voice and representation, however im not sure if it was because of budget cuts or it being rushed but the effort was *way* worse than normal and it just threw me off. i would've liked to see more interaction with gil and just to explore the concept. also haunted is SO incredibly tasteful and it deserved better but whatever floats your boat.
I honestly think that the Great Scarrier Reef should have had an environmental message about preserving coral reefs and how pollution is killing them and had Venus be in the cast instead of Draculaura. I like the original Draculaura but I just can’t help but think that Venus would have fit in better with the movie given how the sea is full of pollution and she would want to help clean it up.

Monster High used to be so good! there was so much lore that we didn't get to explore enough! I don't understand why it even needed to be rebooted. It was fine the way it was :( i still own all of my dolls. Monster High holds a special place in my heart.

I really don't like Great Scarrier Reef. Movie was good but it's no make any sense for me because in Fright Dance episode we can see lagoona. She is starting in dance competition and has no problem with it.

The welcome to monster high movie never made sense to me.. We already got a movie where the school was being built and if welcome to monster high was the actual 'origin story' it claims to be, the original movie and freaky fusion wouldn't make sense anymore. Also my favourite is Frights camera action because Elizabat.

Here’s my favorite and how I rate them, favorite to least. 1. Why do Ghouls fall in love (8/10) Love Valentines story, love Clawds character development. 2. Boo York, Boo York (7/10) Love Pharaoh, Nefera being a horrible sister and LOVE the last song, hated that Ghoulia and Abbey were kind just inserted in there though. 3. Ghouls Rule (9/10) I really liked how it was all about Jackson/Holt, love the normal conflict and the characters, we don’t see much of that. 4. Skull Shores (9/10) Enjoyed Andy and how foreign he was to everything. Really enjoyed the villain and how much of a jerk he was, but he was smart and I respect that. 5. Fright On (7/10) I liked Van Hell Scream and how he fit into the story, it shows the fear that he’s the reason monsters fight each other. Love the classic style too. 6. Scaris city of frights (6/10) A really big reason I ADORE this movie is that Clawd kind of has trust issues because of the whole Valentine thing that happened and I just like that it shows a connection to previous movies and they don’t just stand on their own. 7. Friday Night Frights (6/10) the costumes are awesome, the villains are cool and so is Robecca and how she helped them. 8. 13 Wishes (5/10). Gigi is just the cutest. Always really liked twyla and I thought Wisps whole plan was super cool. Also they showed a little of Scarah and Billy which was cute. 9. Frights, Camera Action (5/10) Enjoyed the new characters, loved the adventure! Viperine is so pretty. 10. Haunted (5/10). So cool to see another school then monster high but spectral voice just annoys me 11. Freaky Fusion (5.5/10) I thought this movie was so cool! But when Frankie died I just thought it was kind of lame, the emotion they were trying to convey felt forced and awkward. 12. Great Scarier Reef (4/10). The concept and characters in this movie was really cool but the fact that they changed Lagoonas voice actor drove me nuts! That’s is not my Lagoona 13. Welcome To Monster High 2/10. I actually really like Moanica, I like her outfit and her accent but she didn’t have to be trying to start something ALL THE TIME! 14. Electrified (0/10) there was absolutely no need for this movie, outfits were ugly, the fight scenes were lame, the side plot was barely even a plot!! Sorry this was long, thank you for your time lol

Electrified greatly disappointed me because I do like the dolls because they have crimped hair which is something I really wanted to see incorporated into the MH dolls and they gave me 80s retro vibes which I love but nothing in the movie made any sense. I don’t mind Moanica being an antagonist that refuses to change as that is something that the original MH lacked as Nefera was rarely seen after the Fearleading competition arc of the webisodes and the Werecat Twins and Toralei were more pranksters than actual threats. And it was annoying to see Frankie always lecturing the antagonist into feel so bad that they reform which just felt forced.
I lowkey liked the new movies animation. I just dont like how they gave Clawdeen a green sweater and jeans and everyone else had their original outfit from the beginning. I think her fashion storyline shouldve been better. And most defintely her character. She didnt act as sassy and fierce as she wss in the original movies. That also goes from Cleo. She just looked off for some reason. I feel like her character was off too. They left out her sassiness too. She was a bit too nice for me. Also Torli or however you spell her name shouldve gotten parts with them. When her and Cleo go at it, it makes the scene better and funnier. Im also kinda upset that they left out a whole bunch of characters. Like Claud. He was one of the main ones too. Lagoona shouldve gotten waaaayy more screen time. I also think the messed up the story line in Welcome to Monster High: The origin story. I remember in Freaky Fusion they were showing how Monster High orginially started off in 1814. Now their saying that Draculara, Frankie, and Clawdeen built the school. Its just all around mixed up. I will say that I loved How Clawdeen looked in the reboot. Tbh she looked actually really pretty. Lagoona did too. But Cleo and Dracularas faces were all tiny. They looked like the Disney bobble heads💀😭. But other than that it was actually a good movie. But there couldve been A LOT of improvement.
i really like that you're not just judging these movies from a mh fan's perspective but from a film lover's perspective. some of these films are very nostalgic to me but i'm also a huge film lover and plan on taking some classes surrounding it in the future, so i think it's really cool you how you combined both with this
With the "Welcome to monster high" movie, They got rid of ghoulia, she was basically representing girls with disabilities (hers being speech impediment)
I liked how she was a super intelligent monster that was also one of the most well liked students at Monster High and that she was popular and not treated like an outcast like most movies and tv shows do with nerdy characters.

Ghoul's Rule is the best in my opinion. That whole thing with humans vs monster was really cool and see them interacting together was just so heartwarming¿ It's really sad that they didn't mentioned the goth girl and the goofy guy again since they've showed interest in the monster world :(
Omg yes! Ghouls Rule! Even though I already had big love for monster high, when that movie came out for the first time it just grew my love for the franchise even more. Same with Freaky Fusion. I still get goosebumps every time. 😆 The thing i love the most about Ghouls Rule is that they tackle such a serious topic like racism, and even more serious that they were going to KILL a monster even after being told that he was framed because its what the people wanted. You can connect that with real life events. Everytime I think about the true meaning of monster high, Ghouls Rule represents it the best! The characters, outfits the ending dance, ugh, just amazing. Favorite movie of all time.
I agree with your ranking with a few minor differences, but what I like most is that you clearly have a great affection for these movies... It was sweet how you even got a little tear in your eye talking about it. And glad to hear you appreciate the little references & visual jokes, I think those things helped keep these movies interesting (and then the reboot happened)
13 WISHES WAS AMAZING OH MY LORD, I HAD THAT 3DS GAME AND IT WAS SO MUCH FUN. Edit: Haunted was also my second favorite, and I think you didn’t do it justice. First off I loved the amount of protagonists because there wasn’t too many, and I got to see Rochelle & Twyla again. I honestly didn’t think The Red Lady would have any plot relevance, and I loved the high stakes. The Spectra-Porter dynamic was boring, but I loved River, Vandala & Kiyomi so much. It’s your opinion though so I respect it.

I totally agree with putting the reboots at the far end of the list. It completely rids of the old story line. The original story line was followed through all the older movies but this one goes completely off. I get that they want it to be different but they could try to follow the story they've been setting out for years. I understand it's for kids but it's something people of different ages enjoyed but the reboot movies just feel VERY childish.
Idk why but I really want a Monster High movie set in 1814. Think about it tho: Victorian hijinks, exploring younger versions of monster parents or gandparents, and more of Victor and Hexiciah because both are highly underrated characters who just deserve so much more. Idk tho that's just me

I think I love 13 Wishes so much because of the Wii game 😂 Also Freaky Fusion is amazing I also saw that the day I got my dog, it either came out that day or the day before, so it makes me happy lol. But that movie is really good. Serina was my favourite character for a while, I love her 💞
Did anyone else notice how DIFFERENT Lagoona’s voice was in Great Scarrier Reef? It was so hard for me to enjoy the movie specifically for that reason, did not feel or sound like Lagoona to me.

I never got why Lagoona got a tail in great scarrier reaf... I mean...she is a swiming monster and this is her home so whx is she changing and why does noone react to it. She never changed when she was in water...she swims with her heels. I just found that strange. I agree with you when they use there powers it is the coolest. My favourit movie was Scaries I liked the new ghouls and the story was realy good. Maybe also the one in the rollerblade maze. It was action paked Robecca was fire.

I actually really like Electrified but only because of the animation and the models of the ghouls look prettier however I don't like how their colours/atmosphere are brighter and their hair is all blocky compared to the older movies when their hair seems more fluffy. I don't like how they got rid of most of the characters and how their stories are changed. I really do like the relationship between Frankie and Twyla tho, this movie actually made Twyla my favourite character I mean she looks really pretty and I love how they showed her powers ^^
For freaky fusion there wasn’t a butterfly effect because they went with the concept that what happens with time travel always happened, cuz of that line at the end where Frankie could finally see the family scrap books, because if she saw them before she would have recognized her grandfather and changed how everything went.

Also I don't wanna be THAT person but you mentioned that there is nothing between Cleo and Deuce but there actually was! And Clawdeen is in a relationship with Raythe. But I have no idea what happened to clawd and draculaura. And Abbey isn't in the movies but she was in the adventures of the ghoul squad, same with gil but he never got together with Lagoona.

Here is my butterfly effect in freaky fusion.
First timeline: why do ghouls fall in love and ghouls rule are both movies that mentions that draculaura escaped from transelvania because of the monster hunt but kn scaris, booyork and ect. There are a monster world so my theory is... that in freaky fusion when they traveled back too monster high they made a timeline where when monster high was built the monsters have multiplied and the monster revolution has expanded but then they also created another timeline where the monsters didn’t made a revolution and the monster hunt never came to an end till ghouls rule

I love the MH movies because they tackle very difficult to talk about topics like body positivity, racism, sexism, predatory behavior and manipulation, relationships. They do it so well and have them overcome these issues beautifully. MH was such an inspiration for me and I related to it more than I did to any Bratz or Barbie movie.

the great scarrier reef was the start of the decline in all the monster high movies. im australian and lagoona was always spot on in terms of voice and representation, however im not sure if it was because of budget cuts or it being rushed but the effort was *way* worse than normal and it just threw me off. i would've liked to see more interaction with gil and just to explore the concept.
also haunted is SO incredibly tasteful and it deserved better but whatever floats your boat.

I honestly think that the Great Scarrier Reef should have had an environmental message about preserving coral reefs and how pollution is killing them and had Venus be in the cast instead of Draculaura. I like the original Draculaura but I just can’t help but think that Venus would have fit in better with the movie given how the sea is full of pollution and she would want to help clean it up.

I really don't like Great Scarrier Reef. Movie was good but it's no make any sense for me because in Fright Dance episode we can see lagoona. She is starting in dance competition and has no problem with it.

We already got a movie where the school was being built and if welcome to monster high was the actual 'origin story' it claims to be, the original movie and freaky fusion wouldn't make sense anymore.

I stanned Claude and Draculaura so much that when I saw they didn’t even have. Like THERE WAS NOTHING THERE BETWEEN THE TWO ANYMORE. And it hurt like dang

Here’s my favorite and how I rate them, favorite to least. 1. Why do Ghouls fall in love (8/10) Love Valentines story, love Clawds character development. 2. Boo York, Boo York (7/10) Love Pharaoh, Nefera being a horrible sister and LOVE the last song, hated that Ghoulia and Abbey were kind just inserted in there though. 3. Ghouls Rule (9/10) I really liked how it was all about Jackson/Holt, love the normal conflict and the characters, we don’t see much of that. 4. Skull Shores (9/10) Enjoyed Andy and how foreign he was to everything. Really enjoyed the villain and how much of a jerk he was, but he was smart and I respect that. 5. Fright On (7/10) I liked Van Hell Scream and how he fit into the story, it shows the fear that he’s the reason monsters fight each other. Love the classic style too. 6. Scaris city of frights (6/10) A really big reason I ADORE this movie is that Clawd kind of has trust issues because of the whole Valentine thing that happened and I just like that it shows a connection to previous movies and they don’t just stand on their own. 7. Friday Night Frights (6/10) the costumes are awesome, the villains are cool and so is Robecca and how she helped them. 8. 13 Wishes (5/10). Gigi is just the cutest. Always really liked twyla and I thought Wisps whole plan was super cool. Also they showed a little of Scarah and Billy which was cute. 9. Frights, Camera Action (5/10) Enjoyed the new characters, loved the adventure! Viperine is so pretty. 10. Haunted (5/10). So cool to see another school then monster high but spectral voice just annoys me 11. Freaky Fusion (5.5/10) I thought this movie was so cool! But when Frankie died I just thought it was kind of lame, the emotion they were trying to convey felt forced and awkward. 12. Great Scarier Reef (4/10). The concept and characters in this movie was really cool but the fact that they changed Lagoonas voice actor drove me nuts! That’s is not my Lagoona 13. Welcome To Monster High 2/10. I actually really like Moanica, I like her outfit and her accent but she didn’t have to be trying to start something ALL THE TIME! 14. Electrified (0/10) there was absolutely no need for this movie, outfits were ugly, the fight scenes were lame, the side plot was barely even a plot!! Sorry this was long, thank you for your time lol

2 Boo York ( the songs are sooooooo good and in German even better (there is just a thing about the childhood songs, like Barbie, Disney) were I prefer all the songs in German and my fav was EMPIRE from Nefera and her father, the BEST!!!! And Pharao, oh my god, he was the most handsome guy, everyone wanted a Pharao doll, right?)
1 13 Wishes (love eveything about that, just Lagoona.. iÍ wished there were an evil version of the dolls, they look so cool)

Electrified greatly disappointed me because I do like the dolls because they have crimped hair which is something I really wanted to see incorporated into the MH dolls and they gave me 80s retro vibes which I love but nothing in the movie made any sense. I don’t mind Moanica being an antagonist that refuses to change as that is something that the original MH lacked as Nefera was rarely seen after the Fearleading competition arc of the webisodes and the Werecat Twins and Toralei were more pranksters than actual threats. And it was annoying to see Frankie always lecturing the antagonist into feel so bad that they reform which just felt forced.

I literally had a really bad mental breakdown the other day and watched all of the monster high movies.
I lowkey liked the new movies animation. I just dont like how they gave Clawdeen a green sweater and jeans and everyone else had their original outfit from the beginning. I think her fashion storyline shouldve been better. And most defintely her character. She didnt act as sassy and fierce as she wss in the original movies. That also goes from Cleo. She just looked off for some reason. I feel like her character was off too. They left out her sassiness too. She was a bit too nice for me. Also Torli or however you spell her name shouldve gotten parts with them. When her and Cleo go at it, it makes the scene better and funnier. Im also kinda upset that they left out a whole bunch of characters. Like Claud. He was one of the main ones too. Lagoona shouldve gotten waaaayy more screen time. I also think the messed up the story line in Welcome to Monster High: The origin story. I remember in Freaky Fusion they were showing how Monster High orginially started off in 1814. Now their saying that Draculara, Frankie, and Clawdeen built the school. Its just all around mixed up. I will say that I loved How Clawdeen looked in the reboot. Tbh she looked actually really pretty. Lagoona did too. But Cleo and Dracularas faces were all tiny. They looked like the Disney bobble heads💀😭. But other than that it was actually a good movie. But there couldve been A LOT of improvement.

Ghoul's Rule is the best in my opinion. That whole thing with humans vs monster was really cool and see them interacting together was just so heartwarming¿ It's really sad that they didn't mentioned the goth girl and the goofy guy again since they've showed interest in the monster world :(
Omg yes! Ghouls Rule! Even though I already had big love for monster high, when that movie came out for the first time it just grew my love for the franchise even more. Same with Freaky Fusion. I still get goosebumps every time. 😆
The thing i love the most about Ghouls Rule is that they tackle such a serious topic like racism, and even more serious that they were going to KILL a monster even after being told that he was framed because its what the people wanted. You can connect that with real life events. Everytime I think about the true meaning of monster high, Ghouls Rule represents it the best! The characters, outfits the ending dance, ugh, just amazing.

Edit: Haunted was also my second favorite, and I think you didn’t do it justice. First off I loved the amount of protagonists because there wasn’t too many, and I got to see Rochelle & Twyla again. I honestly didn’t think The Red Lady would have any plot relevance, and I loved the high stakes. The Spectra-Porter dynamic was boring, but I loved River, Vandala & Kiyomi so much. It’s your opinion though so I respect it.

I totally agree with putting the reboots at the far end of the list. It completely rids of the old story line. The original story line was followed through all the older movies but this one goes completely off. I get that they want it to be different but they could try to follow the story they've been setting out for years. I understand it's for kids but it's something people of different ages enjoyed but the reboot movies just feel VERY childish.
Idk why but I really want a Monster High movie set in 1814. Think about it tho: Victorian hijinks, exploring younger versions of monster parents or gandparents, and more of Victor and Hexiciah because both are highly underrated characters who just deserve so much more. Idk tho that's just me

Also Freaky Fusion is amazing I also saw that the day I got my dog, it either came out that day or the day before, so it makes me happy lol. But that movie is really good. Serina was my favourite character for a while, I love her 💞

Did anyone else notice how DIFFERENT Lagoona’s voice was in Great Scarrier Reef? It was so hard for me to enjoy the movie specifically for that reason, did not feel or sound like Lagoona to me.
I agree! It just seemed like a different character to me because her voice was so light, and not as confident as her old voice in my opinion
they changed her right before production. they were starting the reboot from there

I never got why Lagoona got a tail in great scarrier reaf... I mean...she is a swiming monster and this is her home so whx is she changing and why does noone react to it. She never changed when she was in water...she swims with her heels. I just found that strange.
I agree with you when they use there powers it is the coolest.
My favourit movie was Scaries I liked the new ghouls and the story was realy good. Maybe also the one in the rollerblade maze. It was action paked Robecca was fire.

I actually really like Electrified but only because of the animation and the models of the ghouls look prettier however I don't like how their colours/atmosphere are brighter and their hair is all blocky compared to the older movies when their hair seems more fluffy. I don't like how they got rid of most of the characters and how their stories are changed. I really do like the relationship between Frankie and Twyla tho, this movie actually made Twyla my favourite character I mean she looks really pretty and I love how they showed her powers ^^
I don't like that for the DVD cover, they lied about Fright On's picture being in CGI when the movie was actually pencil drawn.

For freaky fusion there wasn’t a butterfly effect because they went with the concept that what happens with time travel always happened, cuz of that line at the end where Frankie could finally see the family scrap books, because if she saw them before she would have recognized her grandfather and changed how everything went.

Also I don't wanna be THAT person but you mentioned that there is nothing between Cleo and Deuce but there actually was! And Clawdeen is in a relationship with Raythe. But I have no idea what happened to clawd and draculaura. And Abbey isn't in the movies but she was in the adventures of the ghoul squad, same with gil but he never got together with Lagoona.
the voice actress for lagoon kinda ruined scarrier reef, also the dolls for this movie were not it for me
the doll that was a conjoined twin was kinda cool but yeah all of the other ones were kinda boring
