Great introduction to MASH! Been learning a lot about this tool recently. Went to a Bluegfx Expo last week in London and there was a guy from Autodesk that was showing the uses of MASH and it was absolutely amazing! The uses for this tool are really limitless! Not only for creating many duplicate objects the but dynamics are amazing! They have really made it very easy to create scenes that were much more difficult before or took a lot more computing power. But also the uses for modeling. The example they gave was creating hundreds of rivets for an aircraft engine. This tool is really amazing for dynamics and modeling techniques.
Never even heard of MASH until you uploaded this video... I can already imagine what kinds of things I can create with this MASH thing. Thanks a bunch, love your channel!
Just awesome Mike! Each tutorial of yours is so simple, straight to the point and sooo easy to understand I always wanted to learn Mash Now that i can do.. i will play around with the Mash settings
That was fun. I haven't had time to play with Maya lately. Tips and tricks like this allow me to have fun in a short time while reminding me why I love Maya. Thanks, Mike.
I think there is a general public need for tutorials on mash's awesome potential for parametric modeling, thanks for making this Mike! I was wondering how to pattern more than 1 object into a replicator? Like object A then Object B, ABABAB and so on.
Maybe attach a group to a curve ? I haven't tried :-) Please consider joining my 3D artist group. We have other Medical orientated artists there ( plus.google.com/u/0/communities/109347143301711119935 )
I have facing problem here I'm trying to create with ep curve once I drag the curve into MASH_curve ( input curves) the ball are not exactly sticking to the curve it's go far away in viewport
Mr. Heremes, if I could ask then it would be very beneficial to have a tutorial on adding a falloff object in MASH. I have a hard time getting it right and there isn't much good help on line. Thank you very much!
Is there any way to edit all of the balls at once after you put them on a curve? For example, is there a way to edit one mesh and have the rest of the balls become that mesh at the same time?
Hi Mike ! Your tutorials are always amazing. I really enjoyed this one. I was wondering if there would be a way to decide when, on the time slider, the animation of the balls would start. When you hit play, it starts at frame 1, but if I wanted to make it start at frame 10, then make it stop at frame 100, how would I do ? You could make a tutorial about that. :)
The track is attached to the control curve so you can animate the track but the track is still stationary. If you want to move the track and have the track move as well you can use a script or patent to the main tank controller and use a script
sir,i am using maya 2016 version i can't found workspace option in my maya page and also mash option so please explain it to me shortly i.e.. where is it founded
Im puzzled if it is possible in any way to connect joint system to a MASH object (or an IK for instance?) This could gice some additional possibilities but i could not find any way to do it so far,
I was trying to make a speaker that would use joint system to simulate movement of the speakers membrane. Center moving like the center part and sides moving only a little or none (as it connects to speakers frame ) But for now i just did the whole thing to move with the sound. Btw i noticed that MASH does not allow me to use negative values in the influence :/ That would be usefull as well ;)
Mile all these videos you've made so far means a lot to us and have helped us tremendously...could you please do some complex hard surface modeling things like edge modeling using as many tools so that we get used to wide range of options...let me know :D
Mike Hermes any object...you could use other modeling tools you haven't used as often and so we get to know them better? anyway thanks for making these videos
Oh I completely understand. I know a little about nParticles already but I'm not sure if I know enough to make a blizzard. I'm going to try anyway :) thank you for you awesome videos! They're so helpful!
Hey Mike i need some suggestions, i was trying mash for a little 3d project of mine it's a mechanical rig and i need the object to follow the curve i created(it's a nurbs circle) but when i try the method my object is going in random places, but when i do the same with a primitive object it's working perfectly. I even decreased the distance x to make it follow but no luck. drive.google.com/open?id=1oo-v7UqvWHNzLciOcWlARSSgihchBeCW , i uploaded the playblast of what i'm facing here. I do hope you see this on time. I'm already working on a backup plan but mash would save a ton of time for me.

Thanks ! Yes, I know the rivet example :-)

MASH is there from Maya 2016 (later updates). It's a very powerful tool.
Just awesome Mike!

You are very welcome Lillian
I really had fun with this one . Thank you

Ohhh duh, attach a group. Will def. try that!
I tried, It did not work :-(
aw man, havent gotten to it yet, been learning max and modo haha. I wonder how people built transformers and hellicarriers with just maya's tools.
picosdrivethru I'm very late but if you still haven't figured it out, you need to use the ID node.
Nice tutorial, Mike! I'm finally getting around to working with MASH.
Great
how do you change the direction of. the spin???
Hi mike please can you tell me how can we reverse the Mash animation if the animation flowing in one direction.
I have facing problem here I'm trying to create with ep curve once I drag the curve into MASH_curve ( input curves) the ball are not exactly sticking to the curve it's go far away in viewport
My mind was blown by this!!....yes i just discovered MASH.
Nice !

More more more MASH videos....thanks much.
Oh for sure :-)
Is MASH available with Maya LT? I currently have regular Maya but upon renewal I'm thinking LT.
Is there any way to edit all of the balls at once after you put them on a curve? For example, is there a way to edit one mesh and have the rest of the balls become that mesh at the same time?
aaand you helped me AGAIN :) thank you Mike :)
Happy to help!
thank you, you are better than udemy and pluralsight. greetings from Mexico.
Wow, thanks !
Would love to see a video on low poly character modeling!
I don't do characters, sorry
heya how can you fix overlapping pieces with the curve node?
MASH curve broke and distort geometry unfortunately. Curve Wrap - working well.
Hey Mike, can you make a rolled paper animation tutorial?
Simply superb mike
Thank you
Is there any way to create hundereds coffee bean in the coffee bean bag using that tool?
Sure, basically follow the same process

cool, Mike!
Thanks Mike . its very helpful
Thanks
Ya yeet
sir,i am using maya 2016 version i can't found workspace option in my maya page
and also mash option so please explain it to me shortly i.e.. where is it founded
its a 2018 update. not available in lower versions.
thanks

A joint acts as an object so in principle yes. But Why ? What do you have in mind ?
I was trying to make a speaker that would use joint system to simulate movement of the speakers membrane. Center moving like the center part and sides moving only a little or none (as it connects to speakers frame ) But for now i just did the whole thing to move with the sound. Mike Hermes any object...you could use other modeling tools you haven't used as often and so we get to know them better? anyway thanks for making these videos
Hi, Mike, nice video. I`m try to make MASH with leaf on sphere faces, but get fail. Maybe you try
Andrew, not sure what you mean. Leaf on sphere faces ?
1mesh was Leaf (3d mesh, oak leaf) and I try to make MASH on second mesh - sphere (position - face (also it have positions - vertex & border))
thanks
I like Mike!
Does this tutorial work on Maya 2017 ?
2017 update 3 should work
Oh, yeah! That's what I'm talking about.
Cool, right ?
@@MHTutorials3D Mike this is the best thing in Maya. I can do a lot do easily now and faster. Things like stiches...Thank you very much.
Do you have a tutorial on making blizzards in Maya?
Not yet, sorry
Mike Hermes, would you be willing to make one? I have been trying to research different ways to add weather into environments in Maya
Jessica, it has been on my list for a very, very long time but I have hundreds of requests so I can not make any promises :-)
Oh I completely understand. I know a little about nParticles already but I'm not sure if I know enough to make a blizzard. I'm going to try anyway :) thank you for you awesome videos! They're so helpful!
Great tutorial ! Tks a lot :D
Thanks Luana
So cool!!!
what a good tool my computer can not suport maya 2018 but if 2017 is the same for maya 2017 the mash 👍
Mash in 2017 is almost the same as Mash in 2018
hi sir I'm biggest fan of you sir plz make a snake head on maya
Mike grazie
Thank you
Wish you were my teacher Mike :( mine is total shit
Well in a way I am. Right here, free and whenever you want
