Why wouldn't there be housing crisis in Nigeria when house prices are competing with western countries if not more expensive? Going by Nigerian minimum wage and exchange rate house prices should be 10 times less than the current price..The greed in Nigeria is on a different level, everything needs government regulations like everywhere else..

@ToeKnife166 Stop supporting rubbish, this your nigerian mindset is part of the problem.l bet you can't even afford to buy these houses, yet the ignorance in nigerians will still support their oppressors.Even if the material is the problem, then it must be looked into, houses prices in africa should not competing with south america nevermind western countries. You can buy a house and a massive land in sweden for 10k dollars,a country that has everything better than lagos or anywhere in Nigeria.

Nigeria needs to invest in social housing, not necessarily fully financed by the government, but citizens need to contribute a portion of their income towards home ownership.

TRUTH BE TOLD... Lagos cannot be expected to house most of the people turning up in the state without funds to rent already expensive properties.
And for those who think that Lagos should just build its way out of the housing crisis, Lagos is the smallest state in size. And Lagos should not fund the housing needs of citizens from other states, their governors should be doing that.
It shall come to pass one day soon, as it has been done in most overcrowded regions around the world, many of the citizens who cannot afford Lagos will have to move outside Lagos to the neighbouring states.
All the so called "experts" and NGOs cannot make all the current residents, or the new arrivals fit into this geographically smallest state called Lagos.

Most of the ppl in Lagos from other states would rather not be in Lagos. I find nothing about Lagos appealing.
One of the problems with Nigeria is the centralizing of everything and a federal govt that has TOO MUCH power.
There should be more than one shipping port of entry into Nigeria. Currently, it is only in Lagos even though ppl in other parts of the country would benefit from having ports built outside Lagos.
The rogues in Lagos so far have ensured that importing and exporting cargo by ships will only happen in Lagos. This is by design so that the customs thieves can continue to rob ppl with high fees and demanding bribes to release property. Which state benefits the most financially by Nigeria having only one shipping port? Exactly!!!
Allow the different states and regions to be empowered and watch Lagos State get emptied out…Both congestion and commerce! The changes are coming. The status quo will be dismantled.

@aao449 u and this ur acient of days excuse. More than half of the unnecessary crowds in Lagos are not into dealing with seaports. Before Nigeria even came into existence, Lagos had been thriving and had a sea just like the region u came from.As a matter of fact, it was attraction of Lagos that made the colonials to stay put there.. Yorubas do not control who has a seaport in Nigeria. And about the centralization, it was ur tribe that centralized power to the middle. Ur pple were surviving before u came to Lagos and without seaport. Lots of states in Nigeria are surviving without seaport. Why are u so damn hateful towards Lagos? Rather than bringing solution to how other states can thrive and benefit Nigerians, u are busy hating on Lagos. Damn, Nigeria has a long way to be one cos of hateful pple like u.

It's not about that. There are better jobs and even schools on the island. If there was better public transport and less traffic. Ikorodu and Epe would be jam packed by now. Where i live in the US is a complete village but I school and work in the city and it's only a 30 min bus ride. Lagos is a very tiny place, if not for bad transport and roads, you should be able to drive one end to the other end in 1.5hrs max.

    • @richieogun3093
      @richieogun3093 6 днів тому +2

@JosephineEze79 very true. At the same time, there are very good schools in ikorodu. Transportation within ikorodu and Epe is surprisingly good. They have Uber and brt if you don't like danfos. Maybe not as good as the mainland and island.
Personally I will rather live in a decent accommodation with standard amenities and fresh air in ikorodu than live in smelly, exhaust fume laden, congested, overcrowded and expensive mainland.

Each state in nigeria should build affordable housing for its citizens. Each of the states in nigeria is very beautiful if only each state will invest in their states.

So sad and depressing. Nigerian leaders should be ashamed. Trillions of dollars given over the last decade for development ...for what? Stench of Open sewers, dirty streets, filthy living conditions, disgusting city....Nigerians you need to have a revolution and oust the leaders that can't offer you a clean, functioning city. Disgraceful.

  • @jmanhope1745

Unfortunately, the housing crisis will continue until there is federal government intervention. The federal government should develop incentives for both businesses and citizens to relocate, at federal government expense, to other cities or rural areas. Incentives such as free schooling, lower taxes, cheaper rent, lower cost of living, more job opportunities and higher wages comes to mind. Once the exodus from Lagos begins, unoccupied buildings in Lagos could either be renovated or razed and also the infrastructure upgraded to accommodate the return of those citizens that would like to return to Lagos. Many citizens may remain in other cities or rural areas if incentives outweigh living in the metropolitan area of Lagos.

Tinubu increased the lagos IGR when the then president denied allocation 2. Opened the lagos lekki axis for development 3. Set standarcd for Lagos Atlantic 4. Did amadu bello express to attract development 5. Free education 6. Set up govt paraastals for employement (lASMA, BRT, Local GOVT Agencies).
Handed over to good governance. FASHOLA, AMBODE, SANWOOLU.

@@temitolabello6777I agree but Lagos can do much more cos being former fct and current economic capital of West Africa, this state budget is way more than other states in Nigeria and Countries in West Africa.Lagos like most States in Nigeria hasnt been prudent with resource management hence the decay in infrastructure.Lagos happens to be the smallest state in Nigeria so the road network should be more robust and good, roads open up communities and with more communities comes more affordable housing
