Creating my own art and furniture gets me excited to get out of bed every day. Woodworking and working for myself gives me that sense a purpose and I want you to feel that same passion. In this video we talk about jumpstarting your side hustle by adding some color and creativity to your woodworking. We’re making some simple wood coasters you can batch out by the dozens and sell online or at craft shows. To add some flair and uniqueness we’re filling the center with a colorful acrylic pour and using the FirePoint Creator Tool to bring out a “star-like” pattern otherwise known in the art world as cells. I would say I'm at the top end of beginner. At 67 I know I'll never be so talented as you but, love to try and learn all I can. Thank you for sharing all you do. Just beautiful!

It can be cooking, woodworking, designing, writing, really anything where you can add your flair
as a chef i could see that bernzomatic tool being useful on a pastry station for brûlée-ing the crème.. i mean a standard bottle of propane and torch works fine but is slightly unwieldy.. i like the one handed holstered at the ready aspect

I like the way you've always done project videos and said, "Hey! Make these yourself so you can sell them and make money!" Just sharin' the love and wanting people to have fun and hey, if they want to also make some money, that's cool too. This looks like a neat project to try out, and even if I didn't specifically do this, I'd TOTALLY buy the FirePoint Creator Tool, because there have been SO MANY TIMES that I've been using a propane torch (Said in my Hank Hill voice), and I've wanted to have some kind of stand to hold the damn tank up so it doesn't fall over. This and the instant on/off/hold-on make this a serious game-changer for some of the maker stuff I do - especially cool that it will work with MAPP gas as well. By the way - you mention this "acrylic pour" but I guess I don't know exactly what that is. Can you add a link in the description to whatever brand/type you were using for this? Also, I do a pretty awesome Hank Hill impression. If you want some "Pro-pane, and Pro-pane Access-ories" voice over work, let me know! ;-)

Great project and tips... Definitely have to try that out.
Kinda confused by the gloves... acrylic paint is generally pretty all around safe (unlike some oil paint colors) so other than just keeping your hands clean from paint drying on them, not very necessary. I'd be more worried wearing nitrile gloves when using a torch. You'd be safer with no gloves than ones that could melt I would think.

How do you thin out your acrylic? Do you have specific ratios/additives that you follow?

When you say a soap, do you mean a regular dry soap that you dissolved in the water before thinning the paint or also a liquid soap would work? And how much of it? My wife tried pouring and wanted to have these "eyes" off color popping up, we watched hours of tutorials and none of them worked. None of them suggested to use soap, though...
You sold me on the torch! Looks like it has been a big seller, as it is out of stock at the major retailers around me, but when they get it back I'm adding it to my shop.
Would like to know what type of varnish do you finish with?

The man has to pay his bills, so I don't fault him on shilling a product he can actually use and might be helpful to his viewers. I would have liked to have like a bit more in-depth explanation of the acrylic thinning he did, so I can agree with you there.

this one feels different. feels more scripted or something, idk.
Likely because he's shilling* a product and has to use the words they give him...and he didn't show a mistake and say "we're just having some fun." ;) It did kinda feel like he was trying to beat a deadline and maybe whatever he had planned fell through so this was plan B and shot in a day...though all of his experiments make me think it might have been more than a day.
* I do not fault David at all for paying his bills. I'm glad he got the deal and hope he can do more stuff with the company in the future.

This one was a bit too much of a commercial for me. I get that Dave has bills to pay, but I have come to expect more creativity and passion from Make Something. He didn't really explain how to jump start your side hustle or even explain what he was making. Just a short confusing, commercial for Benzomatic.
