I'm taking a very common inexpensive storage cart from Amazon (although you'll find it cheaper at Target) and turning it into something with a lot more style and class. As a woodworker I really dislike making drawers so I'm keeping the cart drawers and making a new case for them out of English walnut wood. This is a crazy fun woodworking project meant to inspire you to look at everyday objects with a different point of view. Customize everything!

Next up... The Ultimate Pizza Eating Table! ua-cam.com/video/vfFTNXlrCFw/v-deo.html
Didn't see the ending coming... someone got a great deal on a piece of fine furniture 😍
depending on where this is at an employee just got an awesome piece of work.
Whoever gets it they will use it and pass it on before throwing it away. I hope whoever buys it reaches out to the creator and we can watch a reunion video
@@Alkatross How would whoever buys it even be able to reach out to the creator? O.o
@@SammehMarley he left his name on the bottom. But I was thinking they might watch this video and leave a comment. That would be awesome.
I work right next to that goodwill. 😂
A good 75% of my projects go to my coworkers or family. I have also found broken furniture that people were throwing away, fixed it up, and gave it to thrift stores. A great way to hone the craft, and still not fill up the house. Great job, David.
Awesome idea!
Good for you. So happy you donated it. There's nothing like the feeling of doing something you love, creating and then sharing it freely with others. You made my day. Brought a smile to my face that there are still good people in this messed up world.
Besides your hate of making drawers, it might have been fun to build walnut drawers for the plastic case, to make some kind of Yin and Yang storage cart! Anyway, very nice build :)
I doubt that plastic could hold the walnut drawers 😂
@@collef1136 the plastic doesn't even hold the plastic drawers!😆
This is a great idea
Use the Resin and plastic to make drawer fronts,
Here in the urban settlement called Toledo, we have a rare sighting of the elusive Mrs. Make Something. How magnificent!
I love the ending. We used to always joke about making art/design pieces and just taking them to Goodwill and hoping that people reach out and give us a shout out if they find it. It feels like a great way of making art and sharing art. Thanks bruv. keep doin your thing :)
My office is right by that goodwill. Went looking for the "80's" table project from a couple of weeks ago- no luck spotting it.
Completely ridiculous, and I'm totally here for it. Fun project and a new way to not put more stuff in your own house: let somebody else put it in theirs! I did really like the addition of the acrylic to add some fun colors. Thanks for sharing!
You have the BEST toys!! Many years ago I(1968) worked for a man who had a nice set of woodworking tools in a small area of his factory; I was his secretary and had cart blanche to use them. One Christmas I made all my women friends bathroom wall shelves with scrolled edges and an attached towel bar! I had a blast!!!
Absolutely blown away by the ending -- could not have imagined what you were planning. I hope someone will love this as much as you and those of us watching your videos do.
Wow, imagine finding this at the local goodwill store! nice build, David!
@@johndoe6032 Yep. $20 bucks!
Lol. Imagine finding fine furniture at a local goodwill…
I just hope it’s not scooped up by some UA-cam “Thrift Flipper” and sold online for $200…
My suggestion for the plastic case is make Pizza serving dishes or trays. Good Job on the drawers, they look awesome.
Outstanding and beautiful!
PS: "Chamfers are for Closers" t-shirts need to be a thing!
I can't decide if that or Blondihack's "Chamfers are what separate us from the animals" is better.
@@Beef4Dinner22 I almost included her comment! 😀
Yahtzee!
I'd wear it.
This is my first video I saw of yours. I love how quickly you get into the project and the explanations, as well as how you do it in an entertaining way. You gotta the best 'Dad energy'.
This was also my first video from this guy and I gotta say the same! Loved the groovy music as well
This was an extremely enjoyable video. Perhaps my favourite yet - with your artistic nature and humour shining through. The ending was sheer perfection.
The editing too!
I'm always impressed by the clarity of David's view of himself as an artist and a creator - it sure as heck shined through in this one.
I'm just imagining someone thrifting this and going "You know what would make these lovely walnut-cased drawers even better? Painting over all the walnut!" 😂It turned out lovely, and though the stain is not the exact color I would have chosen, that's before seeing it together with the acrylic drawer front colors you chose. Absolutely made for each other, and really tied it all together imo. What a fantastic first video to see... now I need to watch the pizza table video referenced here o_O
Hahahaha!
Curse on you for even mentioning paint over that beautiful walnut!!😂😂
Have to agree on the choice of stain. I would have gone a tad darker myself. And perhaps put different colour drawer fronts (all black?). But, hey, each to his own - that's what makes Doing It Yourself so much fun! And what a nice ending! Doing it for the sake of honing the art and then nonchalantly dropping it off at Goodwill. Good for him! Never underestimate that warm fuzzy feeling!
"Rip 'em and snip' em". The new rallying cry of woodworkers off to work wood!
Cool idea. I bought one of these for work as my desk didn't have drawers. I just used pretty paper in the drawers fronts for privacy. It made the entire unit look nicer. I don't think I'd go this far with a plastic storage thingie though. 😁
Your editing is always on point. I love everything about your videos and personality. Thanks for creating!
“You won’t believe the where this goes at the end”😂😂
Awesome work Dave! Keep up these type of videos. There’s a lot of mediocre furniture and household goods that need a little Piccuito-fication.
Your videos are the best. I never find myself skipping anything. I appreciate the attention to detail to make fast and interesting videos.
Thank you Brian!
Considering David is the only walnut hoarder that I'm aware of, I'm quite surprised he released his build back into the wild!
Oh, i wish I could invite you to our storage shed.
We have 4 huge walnut slabs that will be our countertops.
We also have incredible slices from an old walnut tree that had to be taken down at a local park, that have some of the most unique figuring I've ever seen.
Sigh.
Yeah, I'm afraid to touch it.
A one-of-a-kind creation from Make Something for some unsuspecting Goodwill shopper~! Nice build, Dave~!
I got this randomly on my recommended and I gotta say I love your humor and editing style. I'm definitely gonna watch out for more!
I have kept all the drawers from these rolling carts waiting to find time to build a wood unit to put them in. I am so excited to see I'm not the only one thinking of this. We are in the process of remodeling our wood shop, so this is perfect timing.
That was beautiful, that was love! So many people struggling and are just trying to have something and I know someone is going to be so grateful to own this!
This is wild that this video happened today. I have one of those cheap plastic containers near my front door and I've been thinking it's gotta go. Thanks for posting this.
Has to be some of the best content out there. From the creativity in the projects, to the incredible humor and video editing, to the theme music you create yourself. Thank you sir, I truly enjoy your videos (and learn from you as a woodworker)!
Great project and very entertaining and fun video! I can see some changes in the production. Keep experimenting! Loved the remixes 😆
You definitely made someones day at that Goodwill! Beautiful wood and woodworking!
So cool! Love the editing, music, basically the whole "thinkin' outside the plastic box" vibe of this video. Also super-cool that you just donated it at the end. I've really been enjoying your videos recently. You're definitely one of the makers I follow that I'm always excited to see a new video pop up. Keep enjoying yourself in the shop.
I wish I was at that Goodwill store. You made a beautiful storage cart. And I loved the colors you added to the drawers.
You just got a new subscriber due to your generosity.
Everyone deserves to have sturdy, reliable furniture that looks good.
Sadly, not everyone agrees.
"It doesn't cost anything to be kind" is true. When a little love of the craft is thrown in? Makes the kindness sweeter.
As for an idea for the acrylic pour.....
Got a drawer mold? Like a larger plastic drawer and a smaller plastic drawer? The irony of a second upbuild wood be so sweet! (Pun intended)
Love this. Might have hubby make it for my bigger plastic drawers. Would love to find something like this at my local thrift store. BTW thanks for the great tip on the acrylic in the drawer fronts never realized those side grooves were there gonna have to pretty up my drawers now!
I have a bunch of drawers like this, and now I know what to do with them! What a great project!
You have the cleanest work shop and tools that I’ve ever seen.
This was my first video I have seen of yours. Really cool. What was really awesome though, was taking it to Goodwill. I never would have thought of that. I have way more ideas of what I want to make than places to put them. This lifts those restraints, and hopefully others can take pleasure in them. Awesome karma!
This is one of your greatest videos. Your personality shines and makes the video so enjoyable.
I don't plan on doing the project, but it was fun to watch. Nice editing.
I'm not sure what I like more how you took the instructions to music OR your transformation of the drawers!!
I love that you donated that! I do the same sometimes. I will actually finish making or repairing something I decided I don't like or want, just to donate it somewhere where it can be used. ❤️
I must say I'm surprised at the "end use" of the cart, but it's awesome that you did that. I'm assuming it is a write off, but someone will be getting a very neat piece for a great price.
Good idea on amping up a "cheap" piece.
I have one of those in my sewing room! I would love it to look like that! So beautiful. I love the colored inserts! Thank you so much!
I loved that! How clever and very generous!! 👏 🎉
For many years, I was really 'into' anything & everything about woodworking. But my wife and I live in (lease) a 'stick-built' 700 sq. ft. 1 bedroom home with NO garage. The house looks much like a mobile home does, but sits about 2 feet above the concrete pad its placed on, so its got a LOT of storage 'underneath' it. The point I'm getting at is that I eventually stopped doing any type of woodworking because it's a huge PITA to drag the table saw, miter saw, planer, etc. out from underneath the house - rush to finish a project before the sun goes down, or it gets too windy - blah, blah.
But this video I just happened to stumble upon this morning made me think of how much I truly enjoyed watching your channel years ago - seeing it grow into where you built your existing shop and it makes me happy to see that you're still creating content. Fun videos like this one make me want to go out and buy one of these cheapie storage carts and drag everything out from under the house and get 'into' woodworking again. - Ha!
Anyway - As cheesy as this may sound; Your level of enthusiasm, humor and skill - both physical and digital - is extremely inspiring and I just wanted to thank you for giving me these thoughts - because they helped to brighten my Sunday morning. Thank you, for sharing this content. 👊
Oh wow. Thank you! ♥️
“Rip it and snip it!” Great video. Like the format a lot.
People who need to frequent establishments such as Goodwill deserve the treat of something specially hand-made 🙂LOVE IT!!!
Haha, super amused at the final resting place. I'd like to see you use the cut up frame pieces and shape them into "boards" with the epoxy. Then resaw them, and make drawers out of them.
First time seeing one of your videos. The editing is so fun! I couldn't rebuild something like this, but I loved watching you build this.
David, you’re killing it this year! Banger video after banger video.
So many good moments here David. Loved the remix of Bzzzt Stop, as well as the storage unit. Can't wait to see what is rippin' and snippin' next time!!!
What an awesome way to make cheap plastic furniture look cool! I like the new editing style too - it looks like you’re having fun with it!
And I think it’s cool that you donated it! Someone will get to have a cool piece at an accessible price - nothing wrong with that, but funny troll bait ;)
Man, that is waaay better than that flimsy plastic frame, and it looks SO MUCH better!👍
Thanks! I saw you released a video today. It's in my queue!
You are so awesome , I absolutely love that you took it to goodwill. Someone how needs it is going to love it and great car😊
I have been waiting for someone to do for decades and it was glorious. Thank you!
Thanks for the idea. A couple of years ago I made a table to use as my office "desk"--no drawers. So I put one of those cheesy plastic drawers under the table for storage. Now I know how to make it classy and match the table.
Didn't see this coming! Outstanding results!! An Idea about using the leftover plastic is to make two side tables for a bedroom. 😊
Awesome project and video! One of my favorite one for sure. That walnut grain on the side panel is awesome!
Loving the New Diection Dave. Also love these conversion project. Lots of inspiration to take from them. 👍
"Made with love and hate..." hahaha I love it. Especially after the month I've had.
Love the piece, love the ending, looks like you had a lot of fun with this.
Great video Dave! I loved the "documents" joke. Lock him up!! haha
nunca achei que seria possível um vídeo sobre trabalho em madeira ser tão divertido ! parabéns irmão , você é muito talentoso .
This might be weird to say - but I usually skip through most videos I watch. I gotta say, this one was the exact opposite, I actually paused a couple of times and went back because I got distracted by something. I love the project, great job Dave!
I literally have this exact plastic drawer I bought from Goodwill and have been racking my brain how I could make it sturdier & look better with a wooden frame. Yes I hate making drawers. This is incredible work! ❤
If I was at the location where you dropped it off, I would have snatched that set of drawers in a heartbeat! Nice job.
This rarely happens with me. My jaw literally dropped. Surely other commenters have said the same.
I was gobsmacked. Because I was listening and not watching as I fed my dogs (assuring you it was for a good reason), I jealously heard the sound of your tools, so the finished product took me surprise although it shouldnʼt have.
I see so many fixes of this product yours caught me surprise. Bonk on my forehead as I remembered you said you hate doing drawers.
This is my favorite fix of all time. It is a teaching opportunity of love.
I’m sitting here having my coffee and just found your channel. Really enjoy your humor and pacing. Will be hearing REM in my head anytime I’m sanding now. Have a coffee on me. Thanks! :)
Oh man, thank you Emmanuel! Greatly appreciate it!
Great work. This is my new favorite Make Something video. Maybe the repurpose / upcycle / donate is the signature style you’ve been looking for?? Keep it up.
I freaking LOVE this project. Can’t believe what you did at the end! GAH!!! You’re killin’ me, Smalls. Lol
I think I’m going to build a version of this. I have a 3 drawer one in the closet that holds my shirts and extra sheets. It’s been getting a bit broken but didn’t want to replace as it fits the spot perfect. This is the solution
Its been watched. A tipple has been had. Fantastic as ever. Love what you did eith it in the end! Thanks David!
Hahaha… the ordinary, everyday person needs thousands of dollars worth of equipment to work on this $16.00 item! But good for you, you are a creative artisan and good to see the end result and donation to a charity. First time watching, and loved it. Well done!!!
Worth waiting for the ending!
Lucky people of Toledo
Super fun! Love the catch and release of an ending.
Great video. Had so much fun watching it. Thanks a lot.
So much sand! ❤ Bonus: an appearance of the Impala! ♥️♥️
Damn, Dave dude. You’re mid-key my new hero. Doing exactly what I dig doing and all with a snarky sense of humor and really good pacing; i.e. boredom finds no solace in Dave’s shop.
Just found your channel. I’ll be binging now…
Thank you and welcome aboard!
I’ve made so many things to “use up the walnut” that people think I like it and give me more!
This was a 10 out of 10! Quintessential/Best of Make Something. Thank you!
The walk back to the car, yah I just did that😂😂😂.
Well done and fine looking work.
Love this video! I never comment but was compelled to on this video, super fun! Keep making something!
…… “san” (cut). Love the little humour that goes into your videos!
Awesome job David. Really cool can't wait to see more videos soon my friend. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep Making. Make something. God bless.
"Sand in the place that you live" would be a great Tee too!
Excellent video as usual. But the donation was super awesome!!
Wow! Great video. The build is good, but the video is great. The Walnut joke made me laugh out loud. The music incorporation, everything. Just spot on video man. Keep it up!
My teacher brain totally thought you were about to give the repurposed walnut cart back to your old art teacher for their classroom lol either way still love that you donated it!
I'm really digging the makeovers AND that sweeeeet ride!
You’re right… can’t believe what you did with the end result. 😮😂😮😂
Thanks for the reminder to have fun in the shop!
Don’t know why this was in my recommended. I am not handy at all and don’t use power tools except electric screwdriver, if that’s even a power tool. But I love how you turned that into a steady piece of furniture. I especially love the reaction to the jumping spider. My father was a brave man and the only time I ever saw him squeal like that was over jumping spiders. Thanks for the walk down memory lane❤.
You are a freaking genius. I’m looking forward to seeing your other videos GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
Hell yeah. I did this kinda about a year ago.
Found 2 similar white 3 drawer units that fit into the middle cubby of my desk. But the white was ugly.
So i spray painted the white housing black. Left the drawers clear. And sprayed the handles a nice soft mint color.
The black matches super well and the mint is a nice bit of pop.
Yours turned out amazing.
Great content, love the new style.
This was a very fun video with some education thrown in. You were obviously having fun during the build and during the editing.
Keep on rippin' and snippin'!
Somehow this video ended up in my suggestions and I'm glad it did. I love your attitude and style, tho I can't for the life of me figure out how you keep your work area/shop so clean and bare! Anyway, before you shocked me by donating this awesome chest of drawers, I was thinking to myself that I wish you had rescued the original chest from the thrift store. I'm a big fan of upcycling and I hate to see more plastic end up in the landfill. I am impressed that you plan on using the original plastic structure for something and I certainly hope you do. Now let me go grab that spare piece of walnut I have hanging out in the garage and try to make my own version LOL
Your editing style has got me ROLLINGGGG
Wow, what a surprise ending. Awesome that you create your own music as well.
Editing - baller, songs - dope, project - outstanding. Spider in shop - freaky! Bug trails sounds like a cool song title, too, lol.
This was so cool to watch. I am always fascinated by people being able to make/build/reimagine things. Always wished I could learn how to build with wood. Donating brought a BIG SMILE to my face. Great job sir!! I subscribed instantly!
Thank you! ❤️
Beautiful work, Dave! It really turned out amazing! 😃
I need to build something similar for my father's old stereo system... He bought it the year I was born, 1978! And I already had an idea of how to build it... But now I guess I need to show him how you made this! 😂
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Hello. You are everywhere.👍👍
