Jim Croce had a backup, Maury Muehleisen. He played lead guitar for Jim and sang harmony. He died in the plane crash with Jim. He deserves as much credit as Jim.
The toddler in the home movies is Jim's son AJ Croce (born in 1971). AJ still tours, mainly singing the songs of his father. When he performs this song this home video is played in the background.
Another great folk rock singer songwriter who we lost so young. This is the music I grew up with. Unique storyteller & ballad singer. He touches your soul. He had a lot of great hits in his short career. "Photographs & Memories", "Operator", "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown", "You Don't Mess Around With Jim", "I Got A Name", "Workin' At The Car Wash Blues," "I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song", "Roller Derby Queen", "Rapid Roy", "Lover's Cross" etc.
My dad raised me on singer songwriters of the 70s. He was adament about listening to the lyrics of songs. I believe that is why I became such a big Rush fan.
The intricate guitar playing is Jim's longtime friend and touring mate Maury Muehleisen. We lost both of them in that tragic plane crash. Jim's son (the little boy in the video) A. J. Croce is also a singer songwriter. Check out AJ's song "Coraline". In the song you can hear Jim's influence.
He is singing for all of us mortals. He died not long afterward and way too soon. The first funeral of a loved one I went to I was five and my grandma explained how I should think about her death. It was considered by her as the natural next step. Death can be cruel if you are afraid of it. I never have been but I'm not rushing the experience. My best to you and yours.
Red your heart is 24K gold and the song is beautiful and so is your soul ❤❤ #redheadedneighbor #bestreactor #redsarmy #beautifulfuncountrygirl #31K #heartofgoldwithmetalinhersoul #bestbadjokes #Rushcrush #redheadparrothead #warningawarningaddict
I remember the moment I heard he'd died. I was 16, recently had gotten my driver's license, and was driving myself home from the orthodontist when the news came over the radio. It really shook me. Jim was absolutely at the pinnacle of his short career and had become a major star almost overnight, fame which was well deserved. He died far too young. RIP to one of the great singer/songwriters of his time.
Love me some Jim Croce. I'd gladly watch any more of his reactions from you. He was an incredible story teller and has a wonderful voice tone. Cheerz!!!!!
Jim Croce's lead guitarist was Maury Muehleisen. Maury is the one making all those beautiful guitar tones. Jim played rhythm guitar. Maury was amazing and he also died in the same plane crash as Jim. Maury also was a great singer and sang backup on some of Jim's songs.
Seen a few other videos of this (Live) but not this one! Always figured this song was about his wife! Well it has to be, with the line; "I'VE LOOKED AROUND ENOUGH TO KNOW,,, YOU'RE THE ONE ,,,,,(!) I WANT TO GO THROUGH TIME WITH"!! Yes! One of the G O A T singer/song writers!! Condolences to the Email person ❤ Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
My husbands and my song. He put this song on a cassette in my mailbox when I said I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go out with him. Well it worked We were married 50 years when he died. That time in a bottle will be in my heart forever ❤️
I always thought of this song saying to me anyways; that when you have someone precious or you find that someone that is the one that you should cherish all the moments you can with them because when they are gone, you will have these moments to remember and you will know you have been loved and you have loved; and these memories of these cherished moments will see you through the moments that feel like you are alone 🙏 this is one of my favorite favorite sweet timeless love songs ❤️🔥
I remembered this song from my childhood. Funny thing is that (as a Dutchman) I never paid attention to the lyrics until now. Thanks Red ....... as they say, you're never to old to learn things and thank you for reminding this song. It was decades ago since I've heard this one. Btw. sad thing is that Jim died much to young and made wonderful songs in that short time. Btw 2. Still got this album tho.
He wrote this upon the birth of his first child. And you are right about children. Although they can be challenging when young, enjoy those days. They go fast.
Old pictures and memories are all we have. I think we all wish we could hear their voices again. My sister used to keep their voices from the answering machine and would listen to them often, then we lost her. No one knows what happened to those recordings. It's like the wind and the sands blew through and reclaimed them. You're right Red, love them now and tell them so. We have thousands of words in our vocabulary, but the words, "I love you" never gets old. 🥰
The music of Jim Croce with the virtuoso guitar accompaniment by Maury Muehleisen was so great, a sad day when they died early seventies in an airplane crash, just when their songs got recognition. This song he wrote when his wife told him he was going to be a father, so sweet.
Most of us feel the same, family pictures my mother particularly. At 73 I've lost people too often you feel your existence slowly disappearing into the past same with actors and other artists you grew up enjoying they all look so old or have passed themself, Sadly Jim shown here with his son died in a car crash not to long after this and only 30 years old so he his son and wife missed even more than most.
Found him a few years back on here by chance. Such great lyrics. Another musician taken in a plane crash. I think his son was still really young too so I wonder if that home movie was taken not long before. You're totally right in saying appreciate the now. If you think about it when we look or think back on fond memories I bet we didn't fully appreciate the moment at the time.
Twenty years ago I went to a small club in South Florida with a friend to see Jim’s brother playing guitar and sings his songs. Uncanny how similar his voice is. IDK if he still performs. The first time I ever heard this song was in the early 70s. It was included in the soundtrack for a made-for-TV movie.
you are young so it hurts you more . people passing is what happens,i lost both my parents last year in their late 90's and i was not sad but happy that wherever they go neext at least they will know what day it is . Sometimes death is a blessing ,rather than living in confusion.
Hi, Pretty Redhead: I understand your sentimentality in having a hard time going back and looking at certain pictures. For me, it's mostly images and audio in my mind that can be heart rippers. Also, there are songs, mostly old that give me a sense of dread and put a lump in my throat. I have found that most people are not sensitive like this or at least don't admit it. Your one comment about these being the good old days reminded me of Carly Simon's song, Anticipation; those very words are in it. Although I cherish the memories, I would not want to go back; I just want to move forward as at the age of sixty-eight, I have so much to look forward to. Good reaction. This Jim Croce song wasn't a hit but it hits me pretty hard. It's called, 'Dreamin' Again. Short but sad! ua-cam.com/video/hntErKqm4gA/v-deo.html

Possibly the most accurate lyrics ever written, for the message meant to be told. As a lyricist, I don't think I've ever hit it this well on the head.
Perhaps the greatest singer/songwriter of all the legendary singer/songwriters. RIP Jim we truly miss you.
Great reaction, Red! Jim was a fantastic singer/songwriter and an amazing storyteller.

Got to see him at Sauk Valley College in 1972. He played in the gym, but with just a couple of guitars and a small sound systeml, he sounded great.
Love me some Jim Croce. I'd gladly watch any more of his reactions from you. He was an incredible story teller and has a wonderful voice tone.
Cheerz!!!!!
Great song, I played guitar and my brother in law sang it at my wedding in the 80's lol

I just think of all the songs he could have created if he had lived, at least he gave us many great songs before he left us.
This is so beautifully sad. Jim Croce is awesome! Love your reaction!

This reminds me of living in Ohio in the early 70 S. Thank you for the reminder.

Great song and reaction
just listened to his album Life And Times yesterday. he was so good! R.I.P. Jim.

I'm commenting before i even watch the video, this song is incredibly beautiful and i love it, thank you Red ✌❤🐦.

I love ❤ and miss at some time
Excellent
One of my favorite from him. So talented and gone far too early.
Like the song isn't sad enough alone. Now we have beautiful and tragic home movies too?💔
Great songwriter, up there with bob dylan and Gordon lightfoot
Anything by Jim Croce incredible also another singer songwriter to react to s Gordon Lightfoot
And Harry Chapin

"Operator" is another sad Jim Croce song.
