You're just trying to impress me!
Nah, it’s called doing my job correctly.
Time to get moving.
Where did you learn to fly?
Try this for size
Ripped a nostalgia tear in the back of my brain. Ow.
For people wondering why TAS for BC are so rare, it's because, as fun as it is (one of my favorites), BC is HORRIBLY optimized compared to other 64 games. The TAS authors have to account for all the lag the game creates, which means it's that much harder to write. Much respect!
It's also nice to see a run that disallows use of the Carrier view, since a good chunk of the stages that involve it would just be sitting in that camera view otherwise, to minimize lag by keeping all of the destruction particle effects offscreen.
@@Genexi2 GoldenEye 007 speedruns and TASes are similar; constantly looking down to reduce lag, which makes it boring. Be interesting to see how that works out if RTA runners start using the Xbox/Switch versions.
This game was a sleeper hit when it came out. I quietly got it for my N64 in '97 and all 3 of my brothers couldn't stop from playing it. Truly a fun game.
Literally "driving" a van through the skies, doing figure eights and loop-de-loops, leaving tire marks on reality itself.
"You're just trying to impress me."
Favorite lines:
"You're just trying to impress me!" (Very common line)
"I hope this works!"
"YOU RUNNING AWAY OR SOMETHING?"

Amber: "You're just trying to impress me!"
"Try _this_ -on- for size!"
The endless HOURS i put into this game... The frustration, the rage-quits...
Man, I feel you. I decided to give the game another go last night, and holy SHIT I had completely forgotten how hard the Backlash is to use. The TAS makes it look so simple.
@@BigBoct Diamond Sands is a fucking nightmare. Easily one of the most frustrating levels in anything I've ever played, and not even half as hard as the game's "last level".
This TAS Makes it look like a joke.
@@marnea1 RTA runners do the same thing in Diamond Sands as this TAS does, so it's definitely possible in a casual playthrough, just gotta learn the trick. And I very well might try to.
@@marnea1 imho I think Oyster Harbour is a far more difficult level. In PAL regions, we didn't get the instant destruction trick that makes that level so easy on NTSC versions.
But I love Diamond Sands, I think it's a perfect level
It was a good attempt at impressing her.
I can't even count how many times I rented this game and how many hours I must have sunk into this game as a kid. I never realized just how big some of those levels were and given the hardware it's actually pretty impressive. I remember loving how many vehicles there were available to play around with and exploring. Truly a game way ahead of its time and still completely unique to this day.
Turning my truck on its side and floating through mountains is exactly how I like to get around.
I have stumbled upon a rare, untouched wonder of the internet. Greatness, truly, in form and function.
This is awesome. One of my favorite games of all time! I was amazed when I rented this game that the old guy at the video store knew that you had to hold the start button when turning the system on in order to erase the progression of the game so you could start at the beginning instead of picking up where the last person to rent the game left off.
I can't quite put my finger on it, but I get the feeling this guy is just trying to impress her
Nice to know I'm not the only one that beeps the horns to the music!
What a run! I love the use of the horn to go along with the music, that was very entertaining. I watched this whooooole thing through without skipping, that's how entertaining it was! Great work!
This TAS is so well-made! You're just trying to impress me!
So amazing, one of the best TAS to watch ever.
This game even gives out promotions every 10 minutes while I've worked 10 years for one 🙃
Dude I can't even hear the music without wanting to play this again
The good old days where the moon and mars level werent locked behind a paygate.
Game was so ahead of its time. Was definitely a rental favourite.
Ahead of its time? I thought there wasn't anything like it before and since. Any modern game that plays/feel like this?
@@acharat6 Teardown is probably the only one that comes to mind. But this game definitely deserves a remake.
Drives Car sideways, defies laws of physics and gravity while making record breaking times
"You're just trying to impress me" with a slight sass to it like she saw someone perform a kickflip on a skateboard.
I love Blast Corps TAS runs :3
I've waiting for this TAS for so long time. thnx
Dude the "outa my way" van strats on the race level are INSANE! I love it! Should be called the "outa-my bounds" van. This whole TAS run is great, honestly.
So many memories and grief platinuming the entire game
Destroying my childhood. I love it
With the development of self driving cars and modular nuclear reactors this game's scenario becomes more and more likely.
Me still trying to impress her
*THIS GUY*
I kind of miss this era of gaming where there were no formulas to follow, few trends worth chasing and devs would just make whatever they fancied and to hell with how much sense it might make.
Wild times
There absolutely still were. The 3d platformer crash, following after the cute mascot platformer craze. And in between there was the fad of fmv games, and the one of fighting games with captured sprites. Thankfully they mostly were buried because they were so awful.
There was also the very long time of platformer tie in games.
Wrecking Crew mixed with Twisted Metal mixed with Katamari Damacy (which of course came later)
Quite the blend
I'm pretty sure I still have this game. Destruction games are just so fun.
Impressing a girl speedrun [TAS] ANY% WR
This is a fantastic TAS. I keep checking TASvideos for a Blast Corps run but none have ever been submitted. It looks like there might be some potential emulation bugs still present in the game so maybe that's why? Regardless I really enjoyed this. One of my all time favorite games.
I haven’t submitted there for some odd reasons. I may do so before the end of the year.
@@westinbrail8326 it would be neat to have an input file released at some point for posterity :)
@@chainswordcs if you're a member of tasvideos.org then I'll be submitting there before the end of the year. I go by WarHippy in that community.
Quickly destroy everything before the nuke destroys everything! ... wait...
i think the reason you demolish everything is because the buildings are irradiated or something
It's the difference between destroying the evacuated buildings directly in the path and letting it explode and take out a much bigger area and irradiate an area for ages.
I remember playing the hell out of this game and getting like 3 platinums lol
I got 'em all but it's a fucking challenge
Nice TAS.
This game needs a rerelease.
they have a big opportunity to bring Rare Replay to switch
I don’t normally drop comments on videos but I have mega hours in this game but am still nowhere near this good. Take a bow my friend, you are outstanding
At 18:00 minutes I like how you're blowing the horn to the background music
"We did it Patrick! We saved the city." Just destroyed everything.
Loved this game as a wee one. Was total crap at it but still loved it
I platinum'd the whole game (except Oyster Harbor) and I am going to set a WR for 2 backlash levels sometime soon. It was the summer of 2011 when I discovered this game and I had nothing going for me except to play for hours a day. Just before I got the last platinum I met someone and stopped playing. I think getting as far as I did was one of the hardest challenges of my life. Even thinking about Gibbon's Gate (one of the Pac-Man levels) gives me PTSD. This game is an absolute war crime in difficulty, but I love it. Anyway, now I have to buy the game again and do it all over again to hold a coveted all-platinum cart. Edit : Not finishing Oyster Harbor has always left a hole in my life. I need to get back and finish the job!
Loved the HIllbilly music in this.
The good old days, when games were unique and not copying eachother.
43:54
How soon do we need to take down these buildings?
Me: Yes
When I was a kid I broke my arm while my mom was out of town. Instead of taking me to the hospital my Dad bought me Blast Corp. Not a bad trade all things considered 😂
I didn't know you could 360° Tokyo drift the dump truck
Wild
I love the train horn we use to do the exact same thing!
"You're just trying to impress me!" that is generally the deal with TAS, yes
Wow Blast Corps and TAS 🙌
TDIL you can drift this much in a dozer thats insanely great
nice TAS
Outta my way
I loved this game back in the day. It was honestly really hard for 12-13 year old me. I remember clearly, though, wondering why they didn't have a big truck with essentially treadmills for the bomb to ride on indefinitely. Could have loaded up KIT style and be done with it all.
41:23 sick train horn solo
"You're just trying to impress me!"
aww no confirmation title?
Weird bugs at the end though, normally they should all turn plat when it calls for faster.
This game's use of so many sound effects also heard in Goldeneye is crazy, can't believe Rare didn't sue the sound guys!
Do you know who Goldeneye was made by?
@@XD0002 Who doesn't? Eurocom and n-Space are practically household names
"No carrier view"? I'm currently watching another Blast Corps TAS right now that looks identical to this.
ELI5 plz
as a kid this was one of the most random games i oddly enjoyed
Gibbon's Gate, the only lvl where I couldn't manage to get a Platinum.
Pity I saw how to get it done only now, not in 1998.
My best try was around 18 seconds late, so i gave up.
yeah, finding the path was everything.
One of my fav games ever
What's so special about the carrier view that there's a category that excludes it?
On console it saves lag frames by not rendering the explosions on screen. It also just makes you miss out on all the action
You’re just trying to impress me.
I tried my best... but I cannot hear that... WOMAN saying "you are trying to impress me" again... in my life
Time to get moving nostalgic....
This only works thanks to the Nintendo 64 ROM Cartridge format giving us nanosecond access times or zero loading... that is a problem with later "more powerful" game systems and consoles that have degenerated into online death match and DLC crapfest games.
even OLD RARE was the ace devs capable of making a game like this and making headway... unfortunately with the unstable Sega of America back then we had rushed out Dreamcast which triggered both SOny and Nintendo to make next gen hardware...
Otherwise if Dreamcast never got made we would have seen a longer system wars between Sony, Nintendo and Sega where the N64 as a threat would have become more and more powerful because ROM Cartridge sizes kept increasing and the 4MB Ram Pack was slowly becoming a standard... so it would have been possible for OLD RARE to have made a sequel to BlastCorps on the N64 using the 4MB Ram Pack as a required plus RARE advanced skills and a large or larger than 64MB ROM cartridge would have been killer.
Also often people tend to devalue the N64 and claim it lacked the CD-ROM format... that would only have slowed down the games on N64 and youd be staring at a loading screen plus dimished graphics experience
Honestly, a lot of CD rom developers got lazy. If a game like soul reaver can have one initial loading screen but then have the entire game world be seamless thanks to careful design and how it loaded...
Though yeah, carts had a big advantage on that front.
I'd say it was the Playstation that prompted the hardware upgrades by Nintendo and Sega, considering it came out years earlier.
And considering the paths that both Nintendo and Sega eventually took, I'd say Sony won that console war.
i see this is version 1.0 , later they release version 1.1 which the glitch for destroy building when we try to get out have been removed , rare-replay have 1.1
"What a woop!"
awesome tas! guess it can't quite be console verified because of lag differences
Time to get moving!
16:04
_Judge watches the clearly-cheating path driver takes around the course._
_Shrugs_ "Works for me. World record!"
Literally have been looking for this game for well over a decade but couldn't remember the name. And today it randomly appeared in the sidebar when I was watching some old games. What are the odds?
Destroy everything!
Time to get movin'! You're just trying to impress me!
Was a fun game.
Damn, lost a millisecond or three right out the game inputting "TAS" lol. Does the game require a three character name, or is that 100% flex baybeee?
Time starts upon finishing the name so it is a flex
I enjoy watching the TAS just glitch out the game at times, causing ultra-speed run tactics. 48:00
What does "all platinum" mean? Plenty of the levels seem to not be 100% buildings destroyed or RDUs found?
They're all platinum at the end. Also I added a link to the movie details
@@westinbrail8326 oh sorry, i had misunderstood an important way the game worked
13:00 homer simpson cameo
29:10 is this possible without TAS? Cause wow.
Yep
I saw that you've got at least a few TASes submitted to TASVideos; is there a reason you haven't submitted this one? It's great.
I have a couple odd reasons for not submitting, but now that my star fox 64 tas is going through the process I’ll probably submit this by the end of the year
@@westinbrail8326 If i may offer a suggestion for when you submit this? Do Simian Acres Time Trial before Echo Marches Time Trial so you get the "Now go for platinum!" splash screen, and you can end the run on the final promotion to "You Can Stop Now."
the horn at 18:00 lol
Time to get moving~
Is this video also a 💯% completion video because a title says all platinum medals.🙂
According to the definition of 100% on speedrun.com this is it. But, there are some structures such as fences and tiny crates that can give money but don't need to be destroyed for level completion. I consider getting all of those insignificant structures as true 100%, so I labeled the video as All Platinums instead.
@@westinbrail8326 I see!🙂
Nice!🙂
You're just trying to impress me ;)
Tell me that this isn't early 3D-GTA. ;w;
that would be Body Harvest
No wonder I could never impress her🙄
Man she really is hard to impress huh?
I still have #BlastCorpse for #Nintendo64. 😂🤣 but no console & no controllers 😭
NOW DO IT FASTER
@18:30 the person took down that entire building cause it was in his way
Whut
you just cant tell its a Rare game
I dunno, It felt perfectly Rare to me at the time, but then again, I was a giga fanboy.
I just love the humorous never-ending endings, to end with a "You can stop playing now!" title once you plat everything.
It's definitely got the Rare touch. There's the quirky humor, the music, attention to detail and the insane difficulty that gives it away.
Of course it has to glitch to get platinum on diamond sands......I imagine legitimately doing it would be very hard for a human player
They were all doable
The most annoying ones were because of jank controls. (mostly the hauling truck or missile trike).
I know I did it the hard way(doing each side one by one).
I did it the legit way, sliding each side. Don't remember if I got plat though...
@@FFKonoko you have to do it all in one shot, and not mess the bombs at the end. Is what I remember, been years though.
I love Diamond Sands, it's my favorite level and I can easily get the plat. It just took a lot of practice to get good at Backlash
Insane. Well done!
You're just trying to impress me.
