- In this episode of Tasty Tuesday's we'll learn how to make split peas dhal (dal), a lovely soup-like dish with yellow dried split peas as it's done in Trinidad and Tobago, with the help of Chris De La Rosa of CaribbeanPot.com. This vegetarian soup is very simple to prepare and quite tasty on it's own or a great side dish with rice and curry dishes. You can also make it with green split peas, as well as dried lentils.
For this vegetarian dried split peas dhal (split peas soup) you'll need
2 cups dried split peas
6-8 cups water
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 small onion
4 cloves garlic divided
3 tablespoon veg oil
1/2 scotch bonnet pepper (no seeds)

Yeah so true
hey whats up Chris it looks amazing I'm going to try this now but quick question... I have the geera powder how should I incorporate it to my dhal?
I recommend using a pressure cooker faster process love your videos :)
Basically in mauritius you cook it in a pressure cooker
I can even taste it from here with some rice
Niceeee
try with some small dry shrimp or eggplant (cubed)
Yuh dhal looking righteous!! all yuh need now is some dumpling in that dhal for some dhal dumpling soup!! :-)
Try using ghee instead of veg oil,it gives it an incredible flavour.
You are correct...the ladle is called kalchool

Why not use a pressure cooker, it will cook them in mere 5 mins. No need to spend 1 hour on daal.
That's how my mum makes it and it's a good tip for others :)
