    My parents are from Surinam i love to see this! The soffron is hardee (haldee) as we call it. And a kalchul is the big deep spoon you also use for soups etc.

      Kym Rambharat, I add my geera powder to it before I chunkay. not everyone chunkay but I like having both flavors.

    Why not use a pressure cooker, it will cook them in mere 5 mins. No need to spend 1 hour on daal.

    Try using ghee instead of veg oil,it gives it an incredible flavour.
