Great job Mukesh! I've owned a VS 1680 for a couple years now, and was totally intimidated at first; especially after I downloaded ALL the phone-book sized manuals. If anyone is watching this, Mukesh does a great job, but I got a lot out of purchasing a help DVD from EBay called the ROLAND "TURBO START DISC" and also the ROLAND "OWNERS MANUAL"

Sorry, I no longer use this recording machine. I have upgraded to VS2000. Though the music I used was getting digitally recorded from computer. So, there were no effects applied by the VS 1680

I thought about buying one of these, but the one I was looking at didn't have an onboard cd burner.. how would you get music off the console after irs finished?

      1. Use scsi cd-burner (i do)
      2. Record into a computer the master output
      3. Use scsi card reader

These units were made without internal CD burners, unlike later units by Roland, so you attach the companion SCSI CD Burner that was an option, to offload your recordings. You can do this for finished tracks, backing tracks, archiving, etc. Although there have been a lot of units after it, this is still a great unit. They were like 3 grand or so back in the day, turn of the century. Great quality audio, pro projects have been done on them and sold as CDs.

I've actually decided on a tascam dp32 or dp24 sd. A tascam 2488. Or a korg d888. .. whichever I find a better deal on. I know most use computer recording now. I just like the idea of having a physical workstation in front of me

derrick robertson I hear ya. Go for the best deal after doing your research according to your particular needs and budget. I bought one of these turn of the century for three grand, raised my family, got divorced and finally got some time to pursue it, ha. Would not be my first choice today with the modern technology, but it is still a great workable unit, so I am going to get my money's worth out of it. It is thousands of time the processing power that most groups had up until its creation, so it is still quite capable, and several groups released pro CD's using it, and user groups still exist, etc. The Beatles did everything on four track tape machines! So, the sky is still the limit, even with this 15 years old device. I also got the two outboard effects boards in it, max capability, plus a lot of outboard stuff I can tie into it. So, gonna give it a go, the Good Lord willing. I did a Christmas party gig with it once, using it for backing tracks once a solo gig, where I sang and played guitar with it, so it has a lot of capabilities. For quick computer based backing tracks, Band in a Box is killer, simple and sounds great for a lot of chord based MOR. So, I figure between the VS-1680 and BIAB and Garageband on the Mac, I got plenty to work with.

Peterburban do you belong to any user groups? I have had one of these a long time, seems time to get back to it and find a good user group, etc.
