You might've been entranced by the tone of that old Gibson SG with P-90 (single coil) pickups - prior to the "new" Humbucker (double-coil) pickup design that came out years later. Old Gibson Les Paul's also have the old P-90 pickups and are sought after by collectors for their awesome tone.

I've seen videos of them protesting the genocidal war against Palestine and them getting harassed and even assaulted by the police. 32k Palestinians killed - many of them women and children. I love it when musicians play a song that I know note for note - and they hit them all in the most pleasing manner. There was a time when music and musicians were able to make our hearts ring out, even those of us who can neither sing nor play an instrument. Whoever re-creates that music so well has my ever-loving respect and appreciation.
There are plenty of current artists that capture emotion just as well as those from 30+ years ago. You just have to be willing to look deeper than the radio to find them.
Considering that track was written on a National Steel Guitar and recorded on a Fender Strat I find it amazing this guy is rocking a Gibson SG, a small Roland Cube amp and some Chorus and Delay pedals and making it sound almost note for note. Just goes to show this guy has CHOPS! 🎸♥👍

The reason it works on a Gibson (that Gibson) is because that's an OLD Gibson, pre-Humbucker. Those are old single-coil P-90 pickups that predate the double-coil Humbuckers. So that's why it sounds more like a Fender Stratocaster, which of course has always had single-coil pickups. Old Gibson Les Paul's also have the P-90 pickup. They're rare and collectors pay a lot for them.

With respect, it's hardly note for note. They're interpreting a song, making it their own, adapting it to their (considerable) strengths. That's the beauty of it. Few would deny Knopfler as one of rock's great guitarists, and the finger picking runs he plays on the original are pretty hard to copy. But there's no denying this guy rips.

That guy on the left has got the music bones in him!! Playing rhythm, percussion, and singing without missing a beat. He GOOD!!!! The other guy is excellent to, finger picking that lead like he knows all the chords lol. And the old guy to the right dancing like there's no tomorrow! Love it, this was excellent, thanks to the OP for recording it and putting out here for us to enjoy as well.
