Absolutely amazing gig from Nik. Lost count of how many times I have watched this; still gives me goose bumps. I saw him in 1985, still waiting to get a chance to see him again once this Pandemic situation is over. ...in the meantime, the best therapy musically anyone could wish for. Takes me back to many pleasant years of old. ...
the Germany tour last year was great, I've been to one gig which was my first concert ever :D I wish I could've seen a young Nik performing but it always amazes me how good the guy is nowadays 😁 let's hope for some gigs after the pandemic and more live/acoustic videos in the meantime 🙃
IMO, the 2012 concert at Shepherd's Bush Empire was better. Atmoshpere and energy of the audience was way higher. Audiences seem to be half asleep here, and it affects the performance.
Nik you've never run out of your own hits. You have a tremendous number of additional songs that should/could be on a playlist. They don't have to be considered "hits" to be good.
Never seen or heard Nik live yet. Was curious about his career and landed on the video. He's aged very well. His voice is still great. He sings very clear, I can easily follow all lyrics. And his guitar playing is quite nice as well. Mid 80s happy memories.
What a great show. What a great man. What a great musician. What boring, tumb and sad people. Dont they realise that there is a legend playing, singing in front of them? Sad! Nik will always be a legend for me. Greetings from Germany.
I was 11 in the '80's and my girlfriend of 2 weeks said she had a crush on Nik Kershaw. I was crushed! So now I'm back to see how he compares now. I'll come back in 40 years.
Cheers for this Stephanie. It's a real shame though to see Nik still using Bowie and The Killers within his set-list... Been doing this since 2016! I find it very strange him having a 'Cover' for an Encore. It does bother me that Nik says "we've run out of hits" considering the sheer amount of discography he beholds. Would love to see more obscure tracks like Cowboys & Indians and Can't Get Arrested, which im glad he features more... But come on NIK, we want more of stuff like: 'James Cagney, Faces, Life Goes On, One Step Ahead, Save The Whale, Know How
You're right. I'm a bit disappointed, the setlist is nearly the same than from last year's tour in Germany. He could've also used the occasion of 35 years "Wouldn't It Be Good" as 30 years "The Works". In addition to that, it doesn't make sense to play songs, although he knows that nobody in the room will know it. Doesn't seem pretty confident. To be honest, my personal highlight would be "Nobody Knows", but other (different!) tunes from the 80s would be fine, as well
I've been a fan of Nik Kershaw going back to the Human Racing album but I have to say "The Sky's the Limit" is hands down my favorite of his songs. Nik is one of the most amazing composer / songwriters of our time and is far too underrated in most of the world.
ABSOLUTELY.LIKE MANY GREAT ALBUMS THE WORKS CAME OUT RIGHT AT END OF THE 80S.ITS GREAT TO HEAR NIK SING THE ONE AND ONLY.MY FRIEND LOVES HUMAN RACING AND THE RIDDLE IS EXCELLENT TOO.A TRULY TALENTED MAN.
if you play the original albums these brilliant songs came from and compare them with the current nik kershaw live of today you would find it hard to pick the difference except for the live atmosphere and the audience sounds..... and that sir is as high a compliment that i could give voccals, sound,on top of your game as good as i have ever heard him live....absolutely brilliant!
@@thekershfan True - was enormously lucky to have stumbled on The Works when/where I did decades ago - a cassette tape! Elizabeth's Eyes is so nice too.
Closing in on empty spaces Winners laugh too soon A paper world with paper faces Beneath a paper moon Well, there's a man, a real pace setter Coming after me And after him there's someone better And after him there's me Well, he'll offer you a cigarette He'll offer you a light Oh but he hasn't finished with you yet On another long knife night Look behind you There's the man you're chasing Look behind you Let's go human racing Human racing Oh let's go racing now Open arms and open purses Open season's here Well, they fill your head With clever verses And then they disappear Silent vows in secret places They'll get you somehow 'Cause you never win With the human races So who's the loser now? Look behind you There's the man you're chasing Look behind you Let's go human racing Human racing Let's go racing now Oh , Around and around we go Human racing now, oh After him, after him Around and around we go Let's go racing now...
The audio mix for the video is a bit disappointing,Of course that's not necessarily what the audience heard on the night. That aside Nik still sounds fantastic, I grew up listening to his songs on long car journeys amazing creativity with both his lyrics and musically. I'd love to see a live show. Well done guys.
it's a shame that he does covers for that reason..the man has written hundreds of songs, he's got a lot to choose from! but he did Roses at the concerts last year :)
Wow, the audience is pretty quiet. I love all his music, but I would´ve gone completely insane when ANY song from Radio Musicola or The Works would start.
if there aren't any other bigger Nik fans around, I'm always the only one to cheer when he announces Cowboys & Indians 🥲 I think in this case it's a combination of them being German (most of them don't even know that he did something after The Riddle) and that the tickets were given out for free to the listeners of the radio station. the audience usually is more excited when it's a room full of people who paid money to see this man
@@thekershfan Oh that is good to know. I was indeed wondering: Why pay for a ticket and then act like a ghost during the show? But now I get it. I am Dutch by the way. And I also don´t know anyone from here who is familiar with anything after The Riddle.
I think we kind of are in good company (compared to the US or other countries outside Europe) but nothing compares to the UK. pretty sure his gigs are even better over there
Seems like the atmosphere on this concert is a bit... stagnated? His 2012 concert at Shepherd's Bush Empire was epic compared to this. The audience was ecstatic.
true. I wish they would do less seated gigs. people like to stand up when it's one of the bigger hits but that's about it :/ when they did the last German gig without seats, the atmosphere seemed way better
i will never get it...seeing the people just sitting there instead of appreciating and partying singing clapping dancing...his fantastic playing and singing and... i just don't get it
I always wondered where the road turns on the wrong track for him. He was an fantastic song writer at a young age, his lyrics often weren´t by no means easy going and quite nonsense as some song of this decade -ok, apart from "The Riddle", where the stories goes, he wrote the song but had no lyrics only filling words for rehearsels- but his record company wanted a new single hit from him so badly, so they released it before Nik could thought of usefull lyrics. But after The Riddle-Album and "When a heart beats" his sucess went down - but when he wrote "The One and Only" he was No.1 again - and this song was so vintage Nik. And when you listen of guys like Boy George or Paul Young these days - he still has got "his voice" which aparts him from all the rest.
very nice, I'm sure you're gonna enjoy it! most Germans are pretty reserved when they are able to sit 🤨 I remember being the only one to cheer when he announced a rather unknown track last time, lol
Nik's guitar is too quiet in the mix when he solo's.. sack the sound engineer ..Nik's voice is the same as the 80's whereas others like Howard Jones.. their voices have weakened and sound weak nowadays.
If only more people would listen to his back catalogue, just amazing.
He’s so underrated it’s mad! Absolutely brilliant artist and a fantastic band behind him
@@josephclarke645 him and others like Paul Young
probably one of the best musicians to come out of the 80s.
He only gets BETTER over the years. Thanks.

Excellent and love the new Oxymoron album - well worth the 8-year wait!

I was there , it was great ,Nik sings so phantastic live , thanks to hr1 !!!1
...war auch dabei ! Konzert war fantastisch !!! NIK & Band in absoluter Bestform :-)
You are a lucky girl! wow i would have took a train if i knew he was playing
Nik Kershaw is the "Mozart" of Pop-Rock! Brilliant beyond words...never gets old!
God bless Nik K- he still number One of prog.rock fusion.
Prog, no. Rock, no. Fusion, no. Pop, maybe.

He looks same (without his great hair style) and he sounds same.. He’s the best!! I hope that I get a chance to see him live and meet him..
fingers crossed 😁 can't wait till this day

Thanks yet again Nik. Still beyond words.

it's not a good idea to have a seated gig..makes them just sit and watch if the majority doesn't know (or just barely know) the song
I heard lil` reminiscence in ''One & Only''... Its begin with ''Get it in"" , Marc Bolan, guitar riff....hehe..

I do wish Nik would sack his drummer. He's the most workmanlike player who lets the rest of the band down.

Bass is low in the mix too. And my headphones are bass heavy. No BV's either. Could be a difference between live mix and recording mix of course.
