Polycarbonate Kohaku - I Need This.

- Oh man, the polycarbonate Kohaku is something else. I already REALLY loved the Kohaku, in fact, when i tried the original Kohaku I was blown away by how much of a bar it set for what I would like going forward.
The PC Kohaku is no different. It is pretty much perfect (at least for me) in every regard. It even fixed a small issue that I had with the original run, which was the acrylic window, it is now tempered glass.
The board is lovely, I'll be going for this one.

The koi fish with the rgb goes hard
i was excited after seeing all the photos on your insta and twitter, but this just blew my mind!
Monokai is the best cap set ever.
RIP Fuji, thank you for your service 🙏
What a beautiful board that i will never own 😔
if you believe it you can achieve it ;D
@Gamingtechgg he's unemployed
Looks amazing as always Alex!!
Another banger build. Also who edits these videos? They're doing a fantastic job with the editing!!
i think manoli edits them
I need this too oh my god it looks so good
Wouldn't you auto get this since you're an influencer/friend of elaine?
Andy v Nguyen moment
@@pokepokepoke64 lol yeah and they all say it's a very good keyboard even when it's "just ok"
@@NuhUhmm oooo do we have another reviewer lurking here ? can't wait for your review video ! Who care's who "they" is when i can just refer to your video!
@@reiny038 Sorry, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings for Alex and Elaine.
Alex isn't that close to Elaine lmao
what are the big strong points of the kohaku? I think it looks and sounds good, but honestly i don't see what others see in it, especially not for like 1.5k aftermarket. Also this is probably the earliest i have ever been for one of your vids lol
I personally dont think I rate boards based on after market value. I think it's silly since thats all inflated. It's a gorgeous designer board honestly that i love!
@@alexotosso what about at its typical sale price? What makes it worth that much? I think for many people the aftermarket cost is essentially the cost because it's impossible to actually get one.
you're really paying for the name of the board
There's usually a point of diminishing returns in many hobbies, and keeb definitely have diminishing returns at a certain point. The Alu Kohaku was $525 base price before shipping, and it definitely is kinda pricey.
The finishing, QC, and spacebar are usually the big selling points, and the name itself of course. Elaine is such a gem in the hobby, and I think naturally, you want to support people like Elaine who is passionate and really puts a lot into designing a board.
But someone may just absolutely love the aesthetics or the history behind the Kohaku as well, even if you could get a similar sound/feel from another board. I agree that I definitely would not pay aftermarket for a Kohaku, but in the end, people will use their money however they want I guess.
I liken the keeb hobby to watches (thankfully, keebs aren't AS expensive as some watches). You like what you like, and you may not see or like something that someone else sees or likes
no board is worth the aftermarket price, period. not even the jane, the unikorn or whatever hyped up board you can name. this is just a beautiful board with good acoustics and attention to detail. want one? keep trying raffles, eventually you'll land a W as I did with my unikorn.
you needs this? i need YOU alex.
great video like always.
such a nice board
what is that other board on the table the other polycarbonate 60
holy shit. the board of my dreams.
Need a 1800 just like this 🥰😍🥰
Actually the perfect amount of rgb
wow so tempting , i prefer polycarbonate
What is the keycap set on the 2nd keyboard (with the alu plate)?
that spacebar belongs on a viral youtube short
Where are you getting vint blacks from?
Ooooook. That was good
Vints seem to have a softer bottom out sound. Don't think I like it that much in this even with alu, sounds pretty quiet. If Cherry, I'd prefer Hyperglide Browns with CF leafspring. Handarbeige would be sick on this I just know
what is that 60% keyboard at the beginning of the video?
its called the Moontower
What happens when you leave the spacebar switch unfilmed?
oooh I forget that the kohaku doesn't have a daughterboard :o
Thats a nice keeb
I really wish i picked up Monokei Material, i picked up GMK Oblivion but i feel like it just doesn't quite hit the same.
😲 wow
I really love the tx stabs because they’re less of a fuss and prettty good to begin with
what was the poly keyboard he had at the beginning? (and on top)
Why doesn’t Alex use hot swap PCB? Any advantages solder ones have?
I think it sounded a little bit better? and plus, when you change keycaps, the switches would not come off LOL..
Solder usually gives you more options for key layouts and allows you to use half plates without having to worry about keys popping out
So how much is this board going to sell for?
Probably around $500 sale price, aftermarket will be at least $1500
sounds very similar to my womier k61, very nice
Waaahhh that's so pretty! I want, lol.
if this one with oring mount, it'll be absolutely perfect
Not sure you've had the chance to type on the thing yourself, but it 100% doesn't need an o-ring. Idk what Elaine did to design the alu plate in particular, but it's the most unbelievable typing experience I've ever typed on. The Alu plate is so good.
@@briangurka8085you’ve already tried the pc variant?
What is this guys day job he has such a nice camera a tat sleeve a keyboard review :0 (asking respectfully)
I do keyboard commissions and content and marketing !
@@alexotos yoooo good for u!!!!
Manifesting this keeb
Just to give more evidence to why gaskets on the plate is a good idea is that I've had adhesive from tape on a frosted PC accent before and the frostiness got removed by the adhesive.
But don't take my word for it. Alex did it which means that the only right thing to do!
Hey, anyone knows what IEM Alex is using?
Campfire Audio Andromeda, though there are a few green versions but it's either the 'original' 2019 and earlier version, or the 2020+ updated version of the 'standard' model.
Does anyone know if theres a white version of those keycaps or something similar to those I could find ?
May I ask name of the 60% keyboard at beginning?
Moontower
Thank you so much for your response.
@@AlphaTenkai
Any updates on group buy?
Its literally a tofu65 2.0 polycarbonate with a nicer backplate. In fact the tofu is cleaner looking. The price of this thing is criminal lol.
Is the one on your desk the PC envoy?
Dont think so since its 60%
Moontower?

When it's a bad "*insert Chinese vendor*" board: "Honest opinions"
When it's a mid designer board: "No criticisms"
Very big assumption.
So how long will it last before ots sold out,
10 minutes? These things get botted in like 30 seconds.
how do you sell out a raffle? you have to submit your entry and wait.
@@190daes wrong, it's a raffle
Pc kohaku new mode board so many great keebs i can't keep up
This or sagrada?
why is it not hot swap?
it sounds amazing but srsly 500+ USD for a PC case? hell no man, i will never.
alu kohaku (r1) completely obliterates pc kohaku this time. The alphas are day and night.
How can i order this keyboard? Is it still available?
Raffle soon
@@zanda1836 Thanks, any ideas on price?
@@ravkhangurra7522 fair to assume 500-600
alu sounds a bit better but still a beautiful board.
Why no dielectric grease for TX stabs? Not needed?
Best is BDZ but otherwise 205g0 is commonly used. Nothing wrong with dielectric grease either.
what is with the huge gap between the keycap and the case? looks cheap
gyaaattt
PURTY FISH
does anyone know msrp for this one (the PC kohaku)
Probably around 500 to 600
@@MangoIceCream381 damn, production prob costs them max 200, it’s so cheap to produce. Ik cnc PC is hard to produce, but if done correctly it’s not crazy expensive.
@@keithjohn1650It's very low MOQ tbf, roughly 100 units
@@keithjohn1650 there's plenty of good cheap custom keyboards, though. get a neo65 if you want a similar form factor for a fraction of the price.
It's by raffle and not many units, so you are lucky if you can win (to buy) one.
first the mode envoy now even the kohaku. I'm going to admit high end PC cases are new to me, but I don't a universe where I pay that much for plastic, especially when it's just easy to get things right with plastic. With aluminum at least you can argue the price comes with skill and experience, but with PC it doesn't require any skill or experience, it's just a hollow box for you to fit your internals.
This is cnc'd PC which is harder to manufacture than aluminium. I am not a fan of PC because of the see through but saying that manufacturing PC doesn't require any skill or experience is a whack hot take.
@@mayne069somehow machining alu takes mad skill but machining something that can crack under pressure and requires a whole different skillset and approach to machine properly doesn't? People just talk out their asses these days like they know jackshit about manufacturing or CNC techniques
@@offbrandbiscuitisn’t @mayne069 saying that PC is difficult to cnc as opposed to how the OP is somehow underestimating plastic?
@@mayne069 I'm not trying to downplay the experience or knowledge in using the machinery, what I'm saying lacks the need for experience and skill is the design process. it takes a lot for alu boards not to have case ping or sound hollow while with plastic it's just easy to sound good.
@@eisnerisgodwas referring to the top comment he was replying to. Prolly should've specified but yah
Would want a copper weight vs brass
Why cooper over brass? I like brass because of heavier weight and in general provide better sound vs copper and stainless.
@@IronCan88 purely an aesthetic choice as I have so many Brass weighted boards already
@@omarpabon5751 I see, that makes sense then. Have you considered boards from Mode? I think they usually offer copper as an option. I ordered a lilac kohaku with stainless steel weight. The color matches lilac since both are cool. But this PC with LED is very tempting....but but 100unit limit is truly the main limiting factor :)
@@IronCan88copper is denser than brass actually
@@offbrandbiscuit hi my bad. sorry, you are right, copper is heavier. Brass sounds better in my opinion though. Copper color is beautiful though.
Tbh these singa keebs with Cherry Blacks get boring asf
time to get back to thocc foam board sounds??
Pls dont
Never said i dont like clacky boards or specifically cherry blacks on singa boards, but there are 600 other switches to put into...
All this this GB stuff is just meh: just produce large(r) quantities of 1 design to drive price down instead of through the roof pricing on low quantity batches repeated ad nauseam. Lol @ thinking $ 200 keyboards are cheap...I get a KB + mouse for $ 10 at the supermarket
hard pass on this one if tacky were a keyboard this would be it.
