There was an old woman collecting bottles plastic and glass, to recycle in a ritzy part of New York City. She stuck out like crazy especially since she was pushing around a grocery cart full of recycling with bags and bags tied to it. Needless to say, my heart broke into a million pieces. It was so cold out and snowing, and there was this lady doing what should be seen as a noble thing for society only to make a very meager living. I bought her something warm to drink and helped her until my hands froze. I left a $20 bill with her after fighting against her refusal to take it. That memory is seared into my mind.

Dude. You don't even feel how I feel! You're really rude. "Wtf, you need courage to help people, just help". I bet your darn self doesn't even live in Hong Kong. Do you even know that Hong Kong is really crowded? Do you know that your country and Hong Kong is different? And do you even know that even one move of helping you'll get viral? Please do, before you even reply this.

@@-pastaman-2284 If I want to help someone, I never or will not thing about anything. All I do is purely from the heart. Be a human, not human being.
And personally, I don't like and want give money to someone/beggars/hobo on the street. If I give money, they might use it for bad ways (drugs, smoke, etc). So I give food instead
If they really beg money for their own life sake, they will accept the food. But if there's someone deny the food I give and just want money, I surely know that he/she is not so poor to be a beggar on the street. They will end up use money for other things.

NuggetOfBlueGold Dude what the fvck? If us Chinese are not hardworking, how did we climb from being the spittoon of the world to being one of the world's superpower, in just forty years?! The fact that you see racism in every corner is typical american attitude, where you only see the fault in others, and see yourself as superior. Let me tell you, the reason why America got so developed: you sat on your arse across the atlantic as Europe was destroyed in the first and second world war, swooping into the conflict only when victory is certain and claim the lion's share of the plunder; you destroyed the Soviet Union in the cold war; and then you toppled the governments of 72 countries who stands in your way. HARD WORK EVERYBODY👏👏👏 No, your success is rooted in militarism and plunder, killing and instability, America prospers when the world is at it's darkest hour. Now that there is peace in the world, your government brainwashes young generations like you to bark like trained dogs online, criticizing everything and solving nothing.

Seeing this tiny old woman pushing that overloaded cart in her baggy shorts and thin flip flops nearly made me bust out in tears. Okay, I did cry, I admit it! What. The. Heck?! The reason she is sore and full of pain when she is not working is BECAUSE of all the crazy hard work pushing that overloaded cart! My God! All I kept thinking was if I won the lottery I would make sure she lived in a decent place and had daily massages and nice food. And good supportive shoes! This broke my heart.

My parents always taught me to leave used newspaper or cardboard on the side of the recycling bin instead of inside the bin so the collectors could profit from it. Sometimes you can see newspapers left ON a bin instead of in it, that’s so they don’t have to go through the bin to get it

38 US dollars a day, that's more than I thought they'd make for collecting rubbish for recycling. Then again, usually when you get stories about people making a living picking waste, it's usually in India where they're earning less than a dollar a day
Still, full respect to these refuse workers, being part of Hong Kong's waste management system and making a living even when they're not officially organised
