i totally respect them as they are industrial and nice professionals and this video is just great but i cant help thinking food during a busy week is just miserable (with no offense and i m a banker my self)
I was not a lawyer, but I was a CPA worked at a Big 4 firm so my life was similar to life shown in this video. Long hours, lots of sitting, reviewing, meeting, and typing. Basically live to work, not work to live. I am no longer in accounting because i realized life is too short for spending the entire life at a desk. And this world is too beautiful to stay in the office for 12 hours a day. It brought back so much memories. I hope this could be an inspiration for the younger generations.
As an Asian Australian who also worked in Law (now in tech), i absolutely loved the insight this video gave - also considering moving overseas because life isn't all about work! Thanks Em for sharing
I really admire the dedication, conscientiousness, discipline and hard work displayed in every minute of this video. However, if I am to be honest, this week looks like hell on earth to me, and is not sustainable mentally, physically and emotionally, as one gets older. I know Em has left the law since she posted this video, and it was probably a very wise choice and good for her!!
Suits is one of my fav TV shows! The show does feel a bit too dramatic sometimes. There's also no way that people still look this good after working 120+ hours per week. Thank you for showing us your work week. It really doesn't look as fun as in Suits. I'm actually surprised that you didn't have to work on weekends...
Haha we can (unfortunately) confirm that no one looks quite that good working those hours 😂 Glad you enjoyed the video even though it's not as interesting as an episode of Suits!
I just ran into your video today and was so inspired by your everyday life. Even if you left law, I believe you can achieve anything with your level of dedication and conscientiousness.
Ahhhh a realistic day in the life of a big law lawyer... I am jr litigation associate in a large national law firm in Canada and all of this resonated so closely with me :)!! i like how you incorporate work out and cooking so well in your days.
This is one of the most insightful videos as an aspiring lawyer - the detail you provided of what your tasks consist of is soooo helpful as someone who works in a corporate job while studying, it gives me an understanding of certain soft skills to continually develop that will help me as a corporate lawyer!
It is so interesting to see what a lawyer's week looks like HK. 😊 I am currently working as a legal trainee in Germany and will be in HK for three months this summer. This video was super helpful to get a first impression of what I can probably expect!
I love watching "week in the life" videos and this one convinced me that I would never be able to do what you did - be a disputes lawyer. It's way too much work! Happy that both you and Lloyd were able to escape the rat race!
This is insane. Your energy is super saiyan level 15,000! Work never motivated me. Just get in and get out. Making money only gets 8 hours a day (M to F) out of me. I got to make memories ! Guess that’s why I’m always broke and cutting corners. Good to see how the other half lives. Thanks!
As someone who also left big law, there is nothing glamorous or inspiring about working long hours. It sucks the soul out of you. I aged 10 years over the span of 5 years and the pay wasn’t nearly enough to compensate for that.
I used to work in Hong Kong in a BB investment banking firm. This video kinda makes me miss my life back in HK (or maybe no, almost had no life back then lol) But somehow this is a good video and brings back good (and not so good) memories in HK. Keep up the good work & love the videos!
I work 7am - 5pm doing Software Engineering with some odd weekend hours from time to time and I thought my schedule had a lot going on. Respect to you for having good self discipline haha, that's a wild schedule.
I felt like I was listening to you describe HELL on earth. The aesthetic quality of the video, your work ethic and charm was not enough for me to shake the horror and dread still lingering throughout my body. I’m literally still shaking. Thank you
Wow that`s a very hectic week. I couln`t imaging working past 6pm let alone 11pm!!! That to me is crazy as humans we need some sort life outside work. It`s very important to have the evening/nights to chill a bit after work and spend it with loved ones or do something that you love which is good for mental health. For this reason I never work beyond 6pm.
Great video. I love how you guys are so organised and scheduled to be able to fit everything in - work, fitness, cooking, and time to meet friends. Can you do a video on your meal prep philosophy? I never know what I'm going to eat the next day and I'd love to see how you plan your meals for the week ahead.
I just found your channel and became a new subscriber here. As a lawyer, I found this content fascinating and will check out other content on your channel. Keep it up, guys.
Just found out about this video and it is kind of surprising for someone who work at a big law taking the trains to and fro office! In Malaysia if you work at big law NONE of them, not even junior assocs, are willing to commute by public transportation given how bad and unreliable the public transportations are here. You saved a lot of your money and I hope it will be the same in my place too. Cars are a huge commitment, and nobody should be obliged to have them (sorry if this is unrelated)
Adore seeing your routine at work. The lovely part is when you are baking the chocolate cake. It's nice and kind of of you to share the recipes of a cake of yours. Thanks
I first time feeling interested in watching someone's days in the life😆, probably its happening in my home town. I admire you guys making effort to make videos on youtube while your jobs are taking up so much time everyday. Great work and Hope to see more x
3:13 I love how you use your mouse! You're using the middle finger for the scroller. It never occurred to me in 23 years of my life to ever use the middle finger as the scrolling finger. It looks so efficient! Lawyer mindset in action - being as efficient as possible!
your filming skills are amazing please do not stop making these kind of videos i know your job isn't that easy however i am also finance student means Gonna work in corporate world soon.
I was just exasperated at the end of the video! I guessed that's the lifestyle you have if you're to earn that much to live comfortably in Hong Kong. I admire your discipline but I would not want to exchange lives!
I just found your channel by way of the friendly youtube algorithm and found, not only, your subject matter very interesting, but also your way of story telling. Liked and Subbed!
It is less glamorous than most people think, most of the time it is a grind. You have way less personal time than any other jobs. You are literally committing yourself to the job. Like dealing with original documents over the weekend so you can free up time over the weekdays for billable work…
Wow it’s rare to see someone in Hong Kong filming this kind of video, it’s more special when ure both lawyers. It’s mysterious even for Hong Konger whom is not working in that industry. Woww glad to have found your channel Keep it up!
Shes lucky mostly she do desk job... we civil criminal/ general litigation lawyer go to court in the morning on daily basis n only start our desk job after that, sometimes we spend half a day in court, sometimes full day if trial proceed...then we do desk job which is tiring 😆
really love how you guys keep your health in check whit so much work you guys are doing. I'm really trying to get back in shape since WFH started sitting 8 to 9 hrs really hurting my back. this video really motivates me thank you and keep it up 👍
Don’t knock on Suits. I learned more about the essential elements of a contract from an episode of that show than I did in my contracts class in law school.
I like the look of Lloyds roast beef with the onion on top. What was the herb/spice mix he made? I must say as a professional couple you are both very well organised and disciplined with your time management.
Thanks so much, James!! We try our best to find some balance with demanding jobs. The thing with the onion on top was actually a lamb al pastor made by our good friend at his butcher shop for a private dinner. The roast beef we coated with a paste of garlic, onion powder, dried rosemary, cumin and black pepper 🤙🏻🔥
This vid (particularly the HK Park 香港公园) parts. I did get very nostalgic for the happy times I spent in HK. I lived in Guangzhou (about 100 miles into China) and visited a lot. In late 2019 and I received and offer to work at a training center in HK and turned it down for the time being (that was a restless time in HK). Then COVID struck and the time was gone. But happy memories there for sure. Am currently (as I write this) wondering how life would've been if I had taken that job and lived in HK fulltime when I had the chance. I believe that I would have loved it a lot.
That is a super productive and fulfilling work week! It definitely gives me great inspiration on how to plan my work week as well :) Btw, I really want to work in HK for sometime in the future! Love from NYC
I genuinely cannot imagine finishing work at 8pm everyday and then working more when you get home. You have barely any time to yourself. I think being a lawyer has so much prestige but it really isn’t it
I don’t have this level of discipline and motivation towards work and quite frankly I don’t plan on having it ever. Pulling extra hours everyday, no social activities during the week, eating in front of your screen… no thanks.
Just chanced upon your videos and omg, I’m from Ashurst too!!! So lovely and inspiring to see your routine - hope the week has been treating you well :)
That’s cool. Nowadays, I just get off the bed and place some limit orders and stop orders in my DAS Trader Pro and go make breakfast. I manage risk for an hour, close all positions, and head out for the day. Guess what I do?
Just came across your video. love your detailed narrative! Are you open to doing some videos about HK - like social, food scene, culture, etc? Really curious about how that has changed and your viewpoint is appreciated :)
HK is stressful working city and pay not that good. Long hours when I used to work in hk CPA firm. Now I felt have much better life and works career in Australia instead.
Love your content! Did you graduate from HKU? I used to work in HK before moving to Singapore so it's nice to see a snippet of work life in HK :) and good luck in your content creation journey! Looking forward to more contents from you
No reason to feel bad! We’ve just built a lot of small habits over time to try and capture the little pockets of personal time we have :) nothing wrong with sleeping in a bit on the weekends either
Hi, thanks for the video, it allowed me to understand a lot more about HK law firms. Can I ask how important cantonese is in a HK international law firm and whether all of these firms require you to have good cantonese skills before hiring you?
Hi there, thanks for watching! While the importance of Cantonese depends on the firm and the practice area, generally speaking it is helpful (but not required) to have limited working proficiency in Cantonese. The main languages firms care about are English and Mandarin. Hope this helps!

I'm originally from the US, but moved to HK when I was 18 for law school - I visited HK a lot growing up and thought it would be interesting to live here!
V interesting, not least re the English influences: the only other person I ever heard say the word brisket is my mother (94). Also generally the high standard of spoken English essential for international law under that system
the most exciting part is finding out what they are about to eat.
😂😂
sameeeeee
Awesome! Nice video 👍

@@EmandLloyd I have to agree your dedication is very admirable I'm actually jealous. What are you doing now since you left law
This routine was legit insane, same for Lloyd too. I'm glad both of them left.
Nice neighborhood! What’s the rent like in that area?
Three things: (1) You two seem incredibly disciplined; (2) the "B-roll"conversation was hilarious; (3) the cake looked amazing!

Wow girl! You make the 12 hour a day work shift look easy. I could barely handle my M-F 8-5pm (8 hr.) job!!! Very inspiring, Thank you!
Right? lol
I barely have time to workout or go on walks
LoL what's inspiring about 12 hour work day
" very inspiring to give all your life to a computer screen in a corporation, thank you "

this is so interesting! absolutely loved watching snippets of Hong Kong!
Thank you so much!! Appreciate you watching and giving us some feedback 😙
Always wondered how this life was like… enjoying your videos a lot!
I loooove your channel! Hoping to be a lawyer soon when the bar exam results come out! 😊🙏🏼❤️ Looking forward to new uploads from you 😊
Brilliant, love you guys, you live in the most fascinating city
The Suits Clips, is apt to show the world that a Lawyers life is very diff from that of Harvey Specter’s ..
That chocolate cake looks BOMB! Also this kind of routine is what I strive for!
Thank you!
Please tell me the answer. How many times can retake the bar exam in china? China and Hong Kong have same system
thanks for sharing lawyer life. so interested that a young lawyer to be a youtuber
Amazing and informative video. Love your elaboration!
Hello! New here :) just browsing around and saw videos about HK which I miss visiting ! Love the meal prep and weekend routines !
The amount of Sunday Blues I feel from this video...
Thanks for posting this - so interesting and detailed!
I admire your command of English. If you dont' want to be a lawyer anymore, be a TV anchor, or a writer, or a teacher.
Keep on posting more inspiring videos guys watching here in the Philippines ❤️
Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment!! We’re happy to hear that our videos have made it all the way to the Philippines 🥰💕
Your able to sleep in until 7:45am ?!?!? Thats living the dream.
