I think they are mostly in the playlist called, "whiskey for science" but I can double check!

Great video. Please do updates and more of these! Most of us cant afford or have no inclination to chase or spend the money on the unicorn bottles.
I fully understand this. I try to do a balance of Buffalo Trace stuff (since they get the most views) and a mix of craft distilleries and stuff like this.
I have to do those allocated/unicorn type stuff for the views, but I will never stop doing stuff like this.

I did a Larceny blend with Maker's cask strength amazing, better than each bottle by itself Never tried Pruden William though. Love this video
I recommend you try some of these other blends!
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
Wow this was fantastic, I would love to see more blending episodes! 🥳👍
I think I will have to make more for sure. It is just too much fun, not to do it.
Cheers and thanks for watching buddy 🥃
The way you explain the barrel aged spiral makes me think it's a psychological thing lol "Doesn't add much to a young bourbon but does for one that has some age on it" 🤔... Great video. Looking forward to doing some blending
You would have to try yourself to know for sure, but the bottles I have used it on, I have shared with a lof of people and it definitely does make a difference. It is a fun experiment.
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
My best pappy blend: getting my dad to put an ice 🧊 cube in some seagrass. Pappy seagrass!
That is a winning recipe seagrass buddy!
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
Super fun video! I’m going to give that WLW mix a try with B523 and BEP
Good call. You can make a small one too, just to make sure you like it.
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
Love my prudent Pappy with the spiral. I added an extra step. To simulate aging you add the oak spiral which is a great addition, but I also put the mixture in a sous vide for an hour at 125 degrees to help simulate rick house aging. Try it!
Interesting! I would worry 125 would be too high.
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
I am on a mission now to try some of these blends. Thanks buddy!
I hope you like them Kurt. Would be cool to see you and Trent try some out.
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
great video. I have been wanting to do some home blends. This helps a lot. thanks for information. cheers
I hope you do buddy!
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
I’m joining in the chorus of: this was so fun. As someone who is just coming around to bourbon, I like the idea of this helping develop a palate and understanding of what one enjoys. Hoping you try that 1:1:1 of makers cask, larceny barrel and regular larceny with a spiral at some point.
That sounds like a decent blend, that would land you around 100 proof. Solid proof for someone just coming around to bourbon.
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
I just did my own "prudent high rye" - 2/3 BT Kosher rye, 1/3 Eagle Rare. Takes the edge off the kosher rye, adds some sweetness, and ya know, I really dig it
That one sounds really tasty!
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
BUDDY!!! This is so intriguing!!! I've always wanted to do some sort of blend to see how it tastes. I have no idea how Pappy tastes, so I'll just wing it!!! CHEERS buddy!!!!
I hope you do Tim!
You will whip up something awesome for sure.
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
Dang, gonna have to change your name to "Your Mad Scientist Drinking Buddy"!
Really fun stuff. I've tried the Prudent Pappy (but w/o the spiral) and it is better than the individual bottles (you did it in a video for us some time back). I'm really interested in trying that Prudent Old Fitz sounds like something I might enjoy. Another cool video thanks "Mad Scientist Drinking Buddy"!
Glad you tried one bud. I think it is really fun to expirament with this stuff.
Cheers buddy thanks for everything 🥃
I always look forward to these videos, you should get a lab coat 😂. I can’t see blending my antique 107, I like it so much on its own, but these others, I need to grab some spirals and give these a try, seem like fun and worth giving it a go for sure. Cheers DB, I love these.
I would recommend trying out some blends. They are fun and almost always end up delivering a unique experience.
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
I am definitely very tempted to try all 5 of your poor man blands because of the generally availability of all the bottles. Unfortunately I've never ever had a bottle of Weller 12.
That is the one that just isn't practical. The two bottles used to make it are hard enough to find, and the blend isn't better than either bottle on their own. Meanwhile the rest, are all better than they were before blending.
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
Good to know. Thanks. Since I didn't have W12 but had a Lot B and I had WA107, I blended the Lot B and the WA107 and actually like the Lot B on its own better than the blend.@@yourdrinkingbuddy
Love the video want more
1. What would you mix with WT101?or by
2. ECBP
3.JDBP
4. Buffalo Trace
Not these together but blends for each.
I will have to think of these. But a good WT one is called Old Bird. 2 parts Russell's 10 and 1 part rare breed.
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
Your next video on Prudent Pappy, should, in my opinion, be a blind of Pappy 10 vs 5 prudent pappies with various age spiral lengths of time... Perhaps 1 glass at whatever you feel is the longest reasonable amount of time to leave it in (2 weeks, 4 weeks, whatever you think is the longest before you start to see a negative impact on the bourbon), 1 blended and sat for exactly that long with NO spiral, 1 blended right before pouring with no spiral of course, 1 at half your maximum time with the spiral, and 1 with a relatively low amount of time with the spiral, say 5 days or so.
I definitely love this idea. This is a lot of planning. I will see if I can find the time, and get to planning!
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
Quick question..at the start of the video you say the prudent WLW is a 1:1 ratio but later on in the graphic it says a 2:1 ratio…wanted to make sure which one before I try it. I’m guessing it is the 2:1?
I am so sorry, I must have misspoken. Its two parts Markers cs to one part larceny bp.
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
@@yourdrinkingbuddy thanks for clearing that up. Cheers!
Last comment, ordered up some of the oak spirals.....on the packet, they mention 6 weeks....what are your thoughts on the amount of time to leave it in?
Interesting! The ones I buy say TWO weeks, but I often go much longer.
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
Hell yea. That’s cool.
Thanks buddy! Glad you enjoyed it!
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
Hey man! Do I need to use a full 750ml with a barrell spiral for 2 weeks, or can you use 325ml? Would that make it far too strong?
It might. I would recommend a 750 ml... but you also might get something unique. I would probably try it myself, but I probably wouldnt recommend it for someone else. I am a risk taker! Lol.
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
Not sure how that OFBB rivals a normal OFBB. If you blend those together we are talking about 92.5 proof and less than 9 years old. I couldn’t see the viscosity being there, does the spiral make that much of a difference…I just ordered some through your link 😂.
It would be 94 proof but that is semantics. I would wager it scraches that itches, but compared directly to Birthday bourbon it might fall short.
The spirals can help.with viscosity, but don't always.
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
@@yourdrinkingbuddy I forgot 1910 is 93 proof…lol I was thinking 90.
Do you use an oak spiral for 2 weeks on the WLW too, or would that be too much since the FAE-01 already received that treatment? Same oak you used earlier from Amazon? Thanks!
Just one spiral. But you could theoretically do two. Might over oak. Not sure.
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
@@yourdrinkingbuddy Just one, but I know in an earlier video you "aged" it in the bottle for just 2 weeks. I'm probably going to try it closer to 750ml, so maybe keep it in there a month or so? New to all of this and appreciate you as a resource!
@dneuens i have DEFINITELY gone way more than a month. I have a 1792 full proof that has a spiral in it, that I am aging for a year.
But general rule, try it a few times over time and make sure it isnt getting something you dont like.
Out of curiosity! If you were to try one of these blends that use the barrel spirals, I know you broke down the ratios of each bourbon necessary for each blend, but would you recommend a minimum final yield so that the barrel adds to perfect amount of impact? For example, if you did Prudent WLW, “you’d need at least 400ml yield or the barrel spiral may add too much, but over 750ml and the spiral won’t add enough”? Sorry if this is confusing, just trying to nail down some specifics! I have some Larceny BP that I don’t love, and would like to find another use for
Most of the time when working with a spiral, you are working with a full 750 ml, and haven't worked with lower volumes. But i have blinded at smaller volumes to make sure the product is something I like. Before I commit a spiral and potentially a whole bottle of whiskey.
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
How many of those blends did you use the spiral on? Thanks for all the great videos!
I have about a dozen spiral expiraments and only one I felt wasn't great. It seems to improve almost anything you put it in, however, you can overdue it. So I recommend tasting a small amount after a week and pull it out when you think it is to your taste.
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
I'm scared to admit it to my whiskey friends so I'll admit it to my Drinking Buddy...I don't like Larceny BP either..
They blend well. 🤷
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
How do you think prudent pappy would be if instead of regular makers cask strength and larceny I used makers cask strength 46 and larceny?
I think you would make a great whiskey but it wouldnt be a prudent pappy. Makers 46 is french oak finished, and those spicy french oak flavors dont line up with Pappy.
But it would probably be tasty!
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
Ok, at 00:58 you stated the ratio for Prudent WLW was 1:1 FAE01 to LBP. Then at 14:13 you state the ratio is 2:1 FAE01 to LBP. Just looking for clarification as I have a FAE01 to mess with. How long would you recommend adding a barrel spiral to the mix and does that assume I am mixing the ratio into a full 750ml? Comments you made so far seem to be 2:1 however you referenced MMCS vs FAE01
I sincerely apologize. It is 2 mm:1 larceny. I have no way to fix it in the video. 🤦
You can do less than 750 ml, but if you are using a spiral, you might pull it before the 2 weeks are up. It will extract the oak faster the less whiskey you use.
And I used the MMCS as a reference since you can't get FAE-01 anymore. But I would say Fae-01 is preferred.
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
@@yourdrinkingbuddy Thank You!!
Most of these mixers I can't even get here in Louisiana...
They are pretty available shelf bottles in Arizona, Texas and California, that is wild buddy!
I hope you find some good stuff.
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
I love the Poot man’s bday bourbon more than I enjoy old forester bday
I think it was really solid. I am not sure it is better. This just means we need to do a side by side!
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
@@yourdrinkingbuddy hopefully next week 😬
@@marcot9065 😱
Random - have you ever tried blending Eagle Rare with Benchmark Full Proof? I have not but curious if it gives some Buffalo Trace mash bill 1 vibes with age and a little proof. Like a lower proof Stagg?
I have not! That is a wild idea. I might need to try it.
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
BTW, this is all your fault, after watching this, I went out and dropped too much on several bottles to bring in da "faux" pappas Maximus. It shall be done.
Lol nice. I am glad you are trying it out.
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
For the WLW how long do the recommend putting the spiral in for?
I did two weeks, but you can try a sip at week and make sure it hasn't taken over.
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
Where did you hear about prudent WLW? It sounds good and I’m going to try it, but I can’t find anything else about it when searching online.
I am its creator!
I am not sure it exists anywhere outside Your Drinking Buddy Studios. But I have had several fans/friends make it and really enjoy it.
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
I’m going to make it. I have a larceny BP and a makers BEP. Have you noticed if the makers cask strength is as good as the BEP? BEP is hard to find in my area but cask strength is not. And since it’s 2:1 I was curious if you tried the cask strength vs a 01 makers or the BEP.
Did you have the prudent pappy label custom made?
Yeah I made it on canva. I have it on my instagram if you want to save it for yourself, i have no problem sharing it!
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
@@yourdrinkingbuddythank you sir! I’m going to check out your Instagram
how is weller 12 "poor man's"? I have not seen it for under $300. I guess I am REALLY poor
I didn't name it lol. That is what that blend is called. Probably because you can buy a Weller 12 and a Weller 107 at full secondary delivered to your door for $300, and a Pappy 15 on the low end is $1500 secondary.
Dont trust those museum stores though. Weller 12 for $300 is LAUGHABLE. When I go to those stores and they are charging more than secondary, I show them that I can buy it online RIGHT now for less.
Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
Oh, and I don't pay secondary either. I just waste A LOT of time hunting and trading lol.
@@yourdrinkingbuddy Understood. To me the challenge is mixing cheap bourbons and making something that tastes good! I've made one thing I like and a lot that is only good for mixing with something that will mask the taste!
I wonder if you can get Makers Cask Strength and Weller special reserve how that would be…? 🤔
🤫
Don't forsee the future bro!
Cheers buddy thanks for everything 🥃

FYI … It’s a “clean sweep”, not a “queen sweep”.
UA-cam is run by two dudes named rhet and link. That is what they call it, so I am contractually obligated to call it a queen sweep.
Also, I totally got one. I just confused myself when revealing the answers!

@@yourdrinkingbuddy Yeah, I’m just an anal retentive jerk who couldn’t let it slide. I love your channel. First found you when looking for Del Bac reviews after my daughter started at the University of Arizona. I credit you for me finding Del Bac, Found North, and some interesting blends.
@joshgoodmanson9534 that's awesome buddy! Glad you found me and glad you have found good stuff I recommended!

@@yourdrinkingbuddy indeed...it's certainly more of a volume thing. Thank you!
Did you barrel age the Poor Man's WLW?
OK- you said you could use a Barrel Spire, thanks. But there were a couple of different recipes for the WLW. Is it 1 to 1 (said at about 1:00) or 1 part LBP to 2 Parts Makers? (said 2 times later)
I did use a spiral on it. Two weeks. Made a huge difference.
