Well, hello. Writing this from a little country in Europe. Let me tell you about that time my daughter complained at university to her fellow students that nobody understood her Doctor Who references and she said: "well, I'm not going to stop whining about it untill one of you starts watching the show" and one guy said he would if she would watch his favorite show (Stargate). They both loved the shows they exchanged but there was one thing they loved even more: each other. A few years later he proposed to her in front of a TARDIS at a convention, asking her to be his companion for ever. Their wedding was even better: the dancefloor was filled with tables and (board)games and we played games all day and night. Best wedding ever. This year they sold their appartement and bought a house and while decorating the bedroom, they wrote 'Beware of the Weeping Angels. Oh and duck. The Doctor - 2024' and covered it with wall paper for who-knows-what in the future... Oh, 4 weeks ago their son was born, named David after ... yeah. I loved this show since the eighties and I'm so happy it continues the gift of being amazed by Doctor Who.
Honestly... I dislike Kill the Moon even more than those 2. Love and Monsters was quite fun imo and Fear Her had a cool telepathy scene + that goof af ending... Kill the Moon has... well it has a great ending speech, but holy hell is the rest terrible and stupid AND it sends a twisted message. Only episode I find worse is Arachnids in the UK
I honestly don't get the hate for Love and Monster's. There are obviously 2 major drawbacks to the episode, the Abzorbaloff and the Pavement stone which even i admit are awful. But apart from that, I think its a really fun and interesting story about what happens when you touch the surface of the Doctor's life. Eltons a really good character, Peter Kay when he's not the Abzorbaloff is really funny and theres a good exploration of Jackie who before this point, wasn't really explored. Overall, its a fun story that isn't as bad as people say if you ignore its more obvious faults. Also Fear her, Orphan 55 and In the Forest of the Night exists which are significantly worse IMO.
It's only Orphan 55, I can't stand, it's preachy, tedious and lacking any depth. Sure, Fear Her was simple. But, I like the Doctor helping a stuck alien, rather than defeating a menace. Similarly, 'Forest' has gaping flaws, and needed another draft (or two). But, there's something poignant about the Clara walking the Doctor back to the tardis. About that farewell, when she refuses to simply survive, or abandon the kids. Alas, then the Deus Ex Machina solves the whole thing...
I know the reputation Love and Monsters has but I feel that you could have a legit screening with a full audience of Whovians who know the cringey and fun beats and have a great time watching it with an audience. Earthshock, Forrest of The Dead & The Pandorica Opens I could see doing well in small theaters too.
This is making me think of The Room and when they all apparently throw spoons during one scene. Imagine a whole screening room going "we even have a bit of a love life" in unison
Imagine if someone forgot what room their movie was in and while checking they caught one of the more… interesting.. scenes in this episode. I would be thinking about that the rest of the night.
I don’t get the hate for this episode. Sure the ‘comedy’ monster doesn’t work that well, and there’s _that_ bit (you know the bit), but otherwise it’s a fairly solid episode about how friendship is more important than the quest to find the Doctor. Just in this series, _Fear Her_ and _The Idiot’s Lantern_ are much worse. They’re boring. _Love and Monsters_ is many things, but it’s not boring.
Fun video. I've only seen Love and Monsters once and actually forgotten how dreadful it is. Though obviously it's not the real worst episode (everything from series 11 onwards is worse). Was expecting you to have invited along a bunch of people. I'm sure they would have come. It's actually really cool to see Doctor Who shown on the big screen. I feel like cinemas everywhere should be screening every Doctor Who episode, couple of episodes per week, on like a continuous 8-year cycle. I'm sure they'd bring in quite good audiences.
Sorry Crispy but I very much enjoy that your girlfriend had no issue with the episode and just enjoyed that David Tennant wasn't around much. I have a lot of respect for this episode and I think everyone needs to chill tf out about it.
I have a friend who only likes this one episode of Doctor Who. I repeat this is only episode of Doctor Who that he likes. He thinks the TV show is trash, but he says "except the one with absorbalof"
Love and Monsters was the first episode of Doctor Who I ever watched. Yeah, it's a hot mess but it's so much fun. That probably explains a lot about my relationship with this show. Oh well, it could be worse. Imagine if The Lodger was my first episode. 😜
The only thing that would’ve probably saved Love and Monsters was the concrete slab love story. If she stayed dead to tease the fate the Doctor brings if you go looking for him in this light hearted way before the finale that was Doomsday, that would’ve been cool! It would’ve also been a precursor to Donna and Wilfred looking for the Doctor and what they brought in both events.
It’s not even the worst episode of the Series it was in. Plus there’s been worst episodes even with The Fourth Doctor. Not to mention a lot of the crap we have gotten in the last 5 years like Orphan 55

I like "Love and Monsters." It is not bad. It is merely discomfiting in the same way _Cafe Flesh_ is. Here's one key. What Elton says on his camera with the virtual score lines actually happened in the story. The rest, not so much.
Love and Monsters is FAAARR from being the worst episode! It's no masterpiece but it's got heart. For an episode that was written by a child, it's still very watchable to me, and far better than most of series 7, in the forest of the night, all of Jodie's era and Space Babies.
Dr Who needs more stuff like Love and Monsters. Other sophisticated programmes have goofy episodes - the X Files, an otherwise morbid and solemn affair, did some inexcusably fun stuff every so often. Dr Who shouldn’t be held in such pious reverence. The audio dramas had a lot of knockabout excursions and nobody filled their nappies in a tantrum.
The ONLY good thing about Love & Monsters is that the eveil villain was shown reading the Daily Telegraph #accurate. And I guess the only other good thing is that Crispy's gf likes it- that's an undeniable accolade.
Rhe absorbalov was the result of a childrens competition to desofn a monster for Dr.Who on the programme Blue Peter. If that was the best what were rhe others like?

A lot of Dr Who episodes are screened at the cinema and I reckon it would be great if they could do it here in Australia too. I'd DEFINITELY pay to see any Dr Who episode on offer at the cinema. Anything from series 11 onwards. Hardly anyone even WATCHED the Chibnall era it was so poor. Then the dire RTD2 series of nonsense. The RTD2 series is one big "love and monsters" style embarrassment.

Yeah Elton is so brilliant, one of the many episodes pretty much guaranteed to make me cry.
