    The Habitat :
    This depends on the type of frog that you own. There are three basic types of habitats that you’ll encounter: arboreal, terrestrial, and aquatic.
    Tree-dwelling species will need an arboreal enclosure. These tanks are much taller than they are wide, allowing you to put vines, branches, and other decorations inside for your frog to climb on. They also do better in terrariums than aquariums (all this means is you want a tank with vents at the bottom).
    Larger frogs or toads or any species that doesn’t jump that high might prefer a terrestrial cage. These look like basic aquariums, and they’re wider than they are tall. You can use a terrarium or aquarium for land-based frogs, but be sure to put a lid on the top so they don’t hop right out.
    Aquatic species live in the water. You’ll need an actual aquarium for these, as they will be full of water. The size of the tank will depend on how many frogs and what species you’re keeping.

    I guess, I will be down voted for this, but I am highly skeptical of this build. Large parts of the paludarium consist of exposed construction foam which has a large surface area due all its little bubbles and cannot be cleaned. The plants are set in a way such that I have a hard time to believe that they will thrive. Instead, many of them will simply die. Finally, the water body is way too small for any fish, let alone neon tetra, a swarm fish that needs a large volume for swimming.

    Currently building a paludarium for my Amazon milk frogs and being told by multiple people that I should not add fish because it will cause water quality issues detrimental to the fish and the frogs. What are your thoughts?? This build looks so beautiful. My frogs are quite a bit bigger though

    • @ferretwonderland
      @ferretwonderland  9 днів тому

      Thank you so much! Your paludarium sounds amazing, and Amazon milk frogs are such a great choice! As for adding fish, it really depends on how you manage the water quality. With proper filtration and regular water changes, it's possible to maintain healthy conditions for both frogs and fish. Just make sure to choose fish that are compatible with the frogs’ environment and won't stress them out. Good luck with your build!

  • @JohnTrasher
    @JohnTrasher 2 роки тому +41

    I am new to all of this. So, do you have a closed watercycle here? the waterfall feeds the pond where the fish swim, and this water is pumped to the waterfall again? why dont you need a filter in this case?

    • @yourlocaltoad5102
      @yourlocaltoad5102 2 роки тому +33

      In builds like this, the plants that take their water from the waterfall act as a natural filter so in most cases adding a filter isn’t really necessary.
      But if you add species that strongly contaminate the water (like frogs that poo into the water or fish that pollute a lot), adding an additional filter or doing frequent waterchanges becomes necessary.
      I have a similar setup without a filter and so far I haven’t had to do a single waterchange even tough the tank is running for over a year.

    • @yourlocaltoad5102
      @yourlocaltoad5102 2 роки тому +1

      You can do something similar for 200$, but you will need to find ways to cut the cost.
      Try finding a used tank on craigslist or a similar page and check on forums for terrariums to see if there are cheap versions of the silicone and foam available to you that are safe to use for pets. Follow the information online closely, as many cheap brands of silicone and foam contain substances that can be very harmful to your pets.
      Also maybe you can find plants for cheap when looking in facebook groups of other people that have terrariums as many often give away cuttings for free or at a very low price.
      And most important: make sure you have a good plan of what you want to do and which materials to use before starting.
      Nothing is more uncomfortable than finding out that you didn’t plan for something and then run into additional costs because of that.

      If you look at the other comments the type of plants are explained and why they don’t need soil, I myself cannot quote the specific type of plant sorry.

    How do the plants survive ? You just place them on foam but how/from what do the roots pull nutrients ?

  • @Mastemine498

    Can your plants live in that foam you use? Like can they actually take root and grow, how do you give them nutrients and things to grow in the foam?
