    Lithops are the oddest looking plants. I thought they were rocks when I first saw them in your Facebook group. I've never had them but going by your description I would treat them like a cactus. I treat my Aloe Vera like this and she's doing nicely. Thanks Bill I've learned a lot about Lithops. Have a wonderful day my friend.

    I love your lithops!! I am new to growing them and your videos are very informative! Thank you for all the tips. I am new to growing lithops and I've had them for about a week now. When I first got them, their leaves were pretty hard and healthy but I found out they had root mealy. I treated the roots with diluted soapy water and left the roots out to dry for about 3 days before potting them. However the leaves are getting a bit soft these days and I'm not sure if i did the right thing.
    I keep my lithops under a study lamp for about 12 hours a day (I do not have a grow light). It has been raining everyday and the sky is gloomy the whole day (not much direct sunlight). I'm afraid the humidity in the air isn't good for them.
    I would really appreciate some advice!

    I sure found them extremely confusing and mine died as you said might happen from time to time but I did try to follow the instructions. They did alright for a while and then shrivelled up and died or at least I thought they were dead. I really think they are so cool too. Yours look great.

    • @PlantzNThings

      +Jackie Binkley if it died really slow it might have needed more water... typically the overwatering will cause them to burst into a pile of mush. certainly worth another try :)

  • @youtubeisvideocloudstorage5894

    If you think you are neglecting it, it is fine. The rule of thumb is only to water when the old leaves are completely shriveled up. They can survive over a year with no roots whatsoever to collect water, lert alone a (hopefully) healthy root system collecting the morning dew that seeps into the soil.

    I love lithops! But have been actually worried about trying them even though living in AZ it’s probably a great climate for them- I have watched a ton of your videos- I know growing these is going to cause me stress but I love LOVE your passion for them and your videos!
    Got some lithops yesterday- unfortunately they have no healthy white tap root or root system at all - going to plant them anyway and see what happens- also got a seed pack awhile ago and have been putting that off but I am going to start them today also! You’re awesome and thank you so much for your time and passion with these unusual living awesome plants!! :-)

    Yeah, I already killed one. Sad. I have a weird Lithops that has 4 lobes. It kinda shrivelled and I noticed something that is supposed to be a flower but it didn't really bloomed. I only realized it is a 4-lobe Lithops is because the supposed flower grew in the middle. I am not sure if it is dying because I don't see any new leaf growing. I watered it a few drops and Alas! the flower opened up (but it still look dead). So I really have no idea if it is dying or what. Have you had the same experience? Thanks. Love your videos.

    I plant lithops from size 1cm to 2.5 cm, actually just feel soil is dry and water it. Now I move to a new thing is seedling. But I have 1 question, how long you move baby lithops to a well drainage soil which is same as the bigger ones? 1 year or 2 years?. Currently I put the seed in well drainage soil but this kind of pot don't have draining hole, I also cover all by transparent plastic to prevent the drainage, to make it wet. I'm live in VietNam and my climate has high humidity. Is it the right thing to care the seed or not?

    what happens if there's no set of leaves to nourish the new leaves? When I got my split rock, I heard you need to put it in lots of sun. I failed to acclimate the plant and I put it from greenhouse light to full bright summer sun. The sun burned the lower set of leaves. One side is all shriveled the other is still intact but has damaged sunburned areas. The top set of leaves are not burned at all and just a teensy bit deflated. When it's growing season, will a new set of leaves appear even though the lower leaves won't offer much?

    I'm having some issues with mine. I got them about a month ago, watered a tiny bit, and they were fine! (I live in Los Angeles, it's been 90+ degrees for the past 2 weeks) Now, four weeks later, a few of them are wrinkling on one side. These ones are in clumps (if that matters?) and at least one or two in each clump are wrinkling on their side. Should I separate them? Water them? I misted them a tiny bit yesterday. I'm afraid to water these darn plants! Thanks!

    • @PlantzNThings
      @PlantzNThings  9 років тому

      +kitina11454 if you recently watered them not long ago I don't think I would water again. that being said, you are hot and the plants might dry out very quickly. you can water a little more frequently if they are able to dry out completely.. It is Fall so maybe the wrinkling is due to the new leaves starting to push through

    Dear friend, this is Stephanie again. Sorry to bother you. I asked a question regarding to my mushy lithops. I bought them 3 weeks ago, and was looking healthy. I currently put them under a LED full spectrum light indoor with a humidifier on, I tried to circulate the air as much as I can. I take them out to get few hours of noon sun if the temperature is above 55 F. I stop watering them now. The condition seems getting worse everyday. It's very mushy and soft to touch. I don't know what I did wrong :( Do you have a facebook, so I can show you few pictures of how they look like? Appreciate your help!!

    Is 3/8 inch pumice grain size too big to plant bare root lithops in ? Found a great deal on 8 quarts of that size , but I hear 1/4 inch is perfect size for pumice. What’s your favorite medium for planting mail order lithops ? Thanks for your videos 😊

    • @PlantzNThings
      @PlantzNThings  5 років тому +1

      3/8 seems a little big but should be OK .... I used a large particle size of grow stone for my seeds and they are doing just fine. as for an online source... I have never bought them as plants online... only seeds... I ordered my seeds from silverhill seeds in South Africa... I always have Great success with their seed

    • @littlebeebs1
      @littlebeebs1 5 років тому

      PlantzNThings , Thanks for your reply! I ordered the 3/8 inch pumice and also some Bonsai Jack 111 Gritty Mix . Maybe I could mix the two . I could also take a hammer to the 3/8 pumice and make different sizes . I’d planned to plant 3 Lithops in the gritty mix and 3 in the pumice and see which do better. My sweet boyfriend got me the Lithops and some cool planters for my birthday. I’m so excited. Your Lithops look so AMAZING!!! Hope I have the luck you’ve had . Hi Bill! I'm one of your lurker subscribers, always watching videos but never commenting hahaha. I had to say that this video literally came out at the PERFECT TIME! Ever since I bought my Lithops a month and a few weeks ago, I've been terrified to water them. I knew about the cycles/seasons, but I didn't know what season my lithops were in! So I've been neglecting them and never watered it >

      +simplyrobby Lurker... lol.. That's Funny :) they should all be in a similar phase. but since they are not all in the same phase at the moment I would consider giving them one last drink before winter... if the mix is very well draining then you can give it a good drink... but if it's like a normal potting soil just a light watering just to dampen the mix. Good luck with your babies :)

    It's been 3 months since I sowed the seeds. I think they look fine, but I don't know when not to water them 😂 They seem to be in the process of splitting, but the aren't any holes yet in the middle. Do I stop watering? Or water when the substrate is completely dry? Do I continue to mist?

    • @PlantzNThings
      @PlantzNThings  3 роки тому

      I would let them dry a little between waterings... if you are misting daily... maybe start misting every other day for a few weeks... then every 3 days..

    I grew two living stones from seed when I was a teen. Then they died. Perhaps I thought I didn't need to baby them as much. Not sure. But it was amazing to grow from seed. They started out so tiny.

    trying really hard to follow your steps but I can only grow dots and then they dry out (I am growing them inside with artificial light) and eBay has been giving me fake seeds... so sad but still growing

    I like lithops. They seem complicated though. I have some succulents. And I need more! lol

      @PlantzNThings  9 років тому +1

      +Vince Gee they are complicated until their not if that makes sense... Now they are one of the easiest because they take almost no care.
