Buying Preowned...Omega Aqua Terra Watch Review

- Опубліковано 20 жов 2024
- I have been looking at buying another Omega for some time now and this one came up on the preowned market, so I grabbed it
What are your experiences with buying preowned and when is a good time to buy?
Model featured: Omega Aqua Terra 231.12.42.21.01.002
Thanks for watching..
Oh what a watch! And you’re so right about the lugs! There was sometjing about the newer generation that made me think it was a bit stubby. But that’s exactly what it is… the lugs! Excellent review and such a fabulous watch!
Thanks Britt, enjoying its versatility and wearability 👍
It is a beautiful watch but I’ll bet he was a bloody nuisance in the Authorised dealers.
@@thomasreed49 I have a great relationship with the AD (purchased several watches from them)
@@PeterKotsa
Peter it was only said lightheartedly just to say I enjoyed your video A lot one of the best thanks. 👌
@@thomasreed49 no offence taken bro. I only replied as I had a comment from someone earlier today leaving some very derogative comments about the same topic regarding me wasting the AD's time etc...then they got very personal and condescending for some reason. I replied the same way to them and they got really bent on putting me down and telling me I need to find real friends..go figure 😊😂😂
It is a looker!! Excellent dimensions, super reliable movement.. yet.. I own a Seamaster(1971) and Speedmaster(2010), so not new. I prefer the older look.
A vintage Aqua Terra will be very welcomed to my collection 🙏🏻😊
Gotta say thats a great looking model. I was surprised when the stopped the deck texture on the dial, I thought it was a great feature and model signature.....
They haven’t stopped. The deck lines are just horizontal now
@@Zeppelin180 oh....
@@jamesblonde2271 They did introduce another Aqua Terra range with colourful/sunburst style dials though. Those are 38mm
@@Zeppelin180 Yeah, they're a bit.....dunno, no likee
Great watch, I’ve had the blue dialed version for 6 yrs. I love the orange accents on this dial. Nobody does orange like Omega
I own the newer generation AT (38mm, blue), and absolutely love it. Perfect do-everything piece, and I wear it 80% of the time. I love your showcase piece here, too; the orange pop is striking and the longer lugs work on the larger case size. For me, the fatal flaw is the date window. It should have a high-gloss frame to balance the 9 o'clock. It would definitely annoy me over time. But chacun son gout. Love your watch, and wear it in good health!
I like it! I recently went through the boutique in Chicago with no luck. I bought that generation Aqua Terra with grey teak deck dial and had a grey with black shark skin strap custom made for my 20cm wrist using that great Omega clasp. I needed a conservative water resistant precision watch to wear daily in my work (surgeon). I save the orange dialed diver for after hours.
You ticked all my points _ crown, sunken asymmetry, graceful lyre shape and so on. And I payed 50% of the price I gave for my daughter’s 38mm AT for her doctorate graduation. Yes sir, good used market out there. Thanks!
👍
Personally I love the ergonomics of the current (or post vertical teak dial) generation. Shorter lug-lug for my small wrist, I believe thinner (in the 38mm line), and they even improved the ergonomics of the bracelet/clasp. But that's it.
The generation you bought (more specifically, the half generation before it with the framed date, all brushed bracelet, pre-"master" co-ax) is my favorite.
And I have my favorite AT, The 38.5 Skyfall blue. Bought in late 2013, my first ever big watch purchase, and it still holds up great to all the more costly purchases I've made since, and that 8500 movement still holds up to the tech of the current ATs (and is better than the 8800 imo). I will never sell this excellent beautiful blue watch.
I love this generation as well but the new one, particularly the green dial and the white and blue small seconds are just amazing in my eyes. Ideally, I’d have one of each generation but my finances don’t allow for that currently so I’d go for the new one. Also, the peace of mind of buying a new watch with a new manufacturer’s warranty is a big plus for me when buying an expensive watch.
Enjoy yours buddy, it’s a great looking watch and that thinness is excellent
👍
What a great looking piece. I've not seen this particular one before. Loving the orange accents, and you're right about the asymmetric case shape and longer lungs.
Great choice.
just beautiful. Aquaterra has always been my favorite out of all the Omegas. love your watch 👍
Well done Peter. With the exception of my Orient, I’ve only bought pre-owned. I’ve had good experiences with all of them. That’s where the bargains are.
Totally agree Mike, cheers mate
You can always find a good bargain used with plenty of the manufacturer warranty still in date.
The only watch I’ve purchased new is my Vario 1918, everything else has been pre owned as well.
Could you share where is a good place online site to buy pre-owned watch? Thanks
@@LocNguyen-jm7tx I’ve purchased a few timepieces on eBay, but watch repair is a hobby of mine and I generally expect to service them anyway. Chrono 24 can be a good option. There are also specialty websites specialising in specific vintage watches. Such as seikos, or omegas for example.
That’s a VERY nice watch. Equally impressive are the straps you’ve shown throughout. Thanks for sharing 👏🏽👌🏽
Thanks for watching!
I'm happy you found an Aqua Terra you love... Interestingly everything you don't like about the new version is what I do like about it - but at the end of the day all the generations are great for their own design.
The orange accents with the black teak dial - simply gorgeous.
I bought the 36mm first-gen AT based on your previous video. Love it!
Great choice. My favourite of the Aqua Terra line, too. I’ve had two used Planet Oceans that were still inside the Omega warranty and great watches. Felt like a safe bet when they are still covered by the manufacturer and all the paper work is present and correct. When I sold them on it was cost neutral which was another bonus. Bought my 39.5 Planet Ocean in 2020 new from an EU dealer at a price I couldn’t refuse. They still sell for more used than I paid new. Pays to shop around as usual. My Aqua Terra railmaster sold for more used than I paid for it new, too. I wasn’t expecting that! I bought a Seiko Alpinist SPB201J1 new which was running too fast and is about to be returned for the second time from the main dealer service centre, so new isn’t always an easy ride.
Thanks for sharing Mark 👍
@@PeterKotsa question, any specific online vendors you recommend? eBay vendors?
Honestly, I've found that I'm not a huge orange colour guy buuuut I LOVE the subtleness of the orange on this omega. Enough to make it pop and draw attention without being too "in your face" 😍
I personally think that the Aquaterra is the nicest looking model from Omega. Well done! Beautiful watch
Beautiful watch. I prefer the 8500 over the 8900 Aqua Terra. The case shape is better (longer, more sculpted lugs), the crown is easier to grip, and I even prefer the bracelet on the 8500 (the 8900's bracelet is too flat for me). I also like the vertical lines on the dial better and, like you, also prefer the more traditional location of the date at 3 o'clock.
Wear it well Pete! The most important thing is that you enjoy the watch regardless of other factors.
Correct, well said
Nice!
I have always loved the silhouette of the aqua terra but have never gotten the nerve to spring for one.
Was gifted at 41mm small seconds for my 40th.
I love it!
Versitile and so nice!!!
All I can wish to you is enjoy it as much as I do 😉
Congratulations Pete on your new Omega Aqua Terra, it is absolutely gorgeous. This model you have purchased gives you the best of both worlds, the lovely design you prefer and a terrific movement...well done. I don't have any experience with purchasing a luxury watch in the aftermarket, but your recommendations are spot on. Enjoy my friend and have a wonderful weekend. Cheers 👍
Many thanks Rafa, you too my friend enjoy the weekend 👍
This has definitely rekindled my love of the Aqua Terra and you have some great straps for that strap monster.
I love my white dial 38mm AT. The AR coating wasn’t a deal breaker when I bought mine. The movement is incredible. I wear mine on the OEM rubber strap most of the time. It is a great every day watch.
I have a pre-owned SMP. After I got it home the date didn’t change. Thankfully it was under warranty and Omega fixed it no issues. So
Box and warranty card / papers are key for seamless warranty fixes. It’s as good as new now. Just with preowned my advice is to make sure all the functions work before parting with your cash. Especially with a private sale.
good advice
Nice one there! Most important is the watch you had been looking for.
Enjoy watching surprise watch review from you. Your video goes well with my afternoon coffee. Thanks.
I too have tried many times to find an Aqua Terra, but just never see to feel right for me. This watch looks amazing and a great fit on your wrist. Thanks for sharing so many different straps and bracelets. Really shows how adaptable this watch is. Each strap gives it a totally different look. Can’t imagine getting bored with so many unique options and looks. And the Orange accents are just the right amount of sportiness. Wear it I’m good health.
🙏
@@PeterKotsa Where can someone get those straps? I really liked the all orange rubber and the black with orange stitching
@@johnspottswood some of these were from Aliexpres, i had them lying around so i thought Id give them go. They were originally made for a Seamster 300, but seem to fit on this model as well
love the music in this video and overall smoothness
Always love your videos Pete especially when your talking about your own watch. Looks especially nice on that orange rubber. Wish more curved end straps were made as I always think they are a better look.
agreed 👍
Same here really like the rubber strap. Pete: may I know which brand is that?
@@boediarjanto Thats just a generic one from Aliexpress (suited for a Seamster 300)
Beautiful watch, I think I like the new Aqua terra a little more, but it doesn´t matter what I think. There is only one who needs to like this watch. That is you. Have fun.
Been waiting for the reveal since you announced it! Great find!
You really highlighted what I enjoy most about the Aqua Terra range, it’s not just the current generation that offers a veritable candy store of dial variations, but previous generations through the years offer even more dial, and as you noted, case variations.
It has taken a few generations, but it seems Omega has made an Aqua Terra for just about anybody looking for an everyday sports watch. That’s the long-game thinking.
This guy gets it. Get what you want and what you like. Aqua terra is a great watch but is a bit off the piste but if it speaks to you get it. Love it.
Great looking watch Peter! Gotta love an Omega! I’ve bought many 2nd hand & to date I’ve done well. Still it’s a minefield! The only one I bought through a online reseller was a 1940’s Rolex Oyster Airking! Because of its age I wanted some confidence backing it. It’s a gem! Almost NOS! 😅 P.S. I got the Hanhart ES417 1954 on Thursday & it’s 😍🤤👍🏻😂
That Hanhart is superb, enjoy it Andrew (Mr Cool) 🔥
@@PeterKotsa Mate if I was half as cool as Steve, I’d be you!😂😎👍🏻
@@andrewd7586 hahaha, I wish I was cool, I am a geek of geeks
6:54 that dial is 😍😍 Thank you for sharing that shot
great choice,mate!!
especially the orange bits make
it look fresh n modern. congrats.
Cheers
Wow, beautiful watch and an absolute strap monster. Definitely my next quest to find.
Nice choice, looks sleek and understated. Personaly I am eyeing the Worldtimer but that is a bit of a save up and treat yourself watch. Hope you enjoy your watch
That’s my favourite Aqua Terra, too. My favourite Omega, probably.
Wow this was a brilliant(non pretentious which is a rare thing) review of a varient I'd never seen. Absolutely love the orange accents.
I have the same generation Bumblebee and completely agree with everything you say about this gen. To me the case shape is better(I too appreciate asymmetrical cases) and also not a fan of the more stumpy shape of the new ones with those shorter lugs and fatter case. On top of that I feel th vertical lines add to the visual sligfhtly fatter look(despite it's slimmer width).
The negative you mention is also my only dislike, the outter AR coating, I mean it does make the crystal appear as if it isn't there, but the smudges and splashes! I am constantly wiping it, it's become like an OCD.
That one negative aside, perfect watch for me, but had I the choice of my old favourite and this one, man that would've been a tough choice(well I think the Bumblebee would've still won me as I'd loved it for so many years prior to buying).
a superb watch..I own one from the same generation with the white dial and one from the actual generation with a black dial..I like the newest version the most but it's cause I have small wrists...so with Omega, you never can't go wrong...
Looks great on that mesh bracelet, so charming. I put my SMP300 on one and it’s become my favorite look.
This watch with that orange rubber strap is pure beauty!
I own the golf of this era and love it. I do like the date apature surround though.
What a great looking strap monster. I've been considering the aqua tera, the external ar has stopped me from pulling the trigger.
I had the privilege of being gifted the current gen AT 41mm and I absolutely love this watch. Every time I look at it, I’m immediately drawn in by its design and just the way it sits on the wrist. Congratulations on your purchase!
Very lucky indeed, enjoy that beauty 🔥
Its a beautiful watch, Pete! Enjoy wearing it in the best of health mate!
Thank you Stephen, be well my friend
Beautiful watch. Love it with the orange band. Maybe one day!
I actively seeked out a first generation AT a few years ago (36mm in the silver sunburst dial) because like you, the current ones never spoke to me as much as well. The on you just bought is fantasic! Just wish they still made them in 36 haha
Congrats Bro ❗️❗️ Yes, you’re much a classical guy but fits you great 👍🏻 and the AquaTerra is an eye catcher. Enjoy in great health. 🙏🏻
Got a gen 1 for my Dad for Xmas, he wore it for a long time but now his eyes aren't so good he's given it to me to "look after". Can't fault the AT, probably the perfect one watch. Congrats mate 👍🏻👍🏻
I loved the gen1 ..cool size and wearability. enjoy it whilst you're 'looking after" it Steve 😂
Lovely thing.
I'm not a fan of orange but in this case it looks great. Preowned is the way to go!
Congratulations on the new piece Peter!
Cheers
Beautiful pick up Peter. Congrats on the new watch! 😁👏
Thanks Bob, new pre-owned..😊😂
Great choice! I recently bought a pre owner Skyfall Aqua Terra and I love it. Planning on having the mainspring updated when I send it in for service (since it’s the non-silicon 8500 movement) but I see this staying with me for a long long time.
The Aqua Terra Skyfall is my favorite version. I will buy it, if i can..
The orange accents make this pop, and I see what you mean about the lug to lug. The longer profile looks better to me as well. Very nice.
Very versatile watch! Mash, leather, NATO etc. All straps suits!
Yup, always liked this generation most too...
I would prefer the gray dialed version though - mostly because it would fit better in my collection😊👍
I have to agree on the current generation of the AT not making it for me.
The main issue for me is the thickness, I just can't understand why they had to make it this chunky, I would rather have a simple stainless steel case back and loose a couple of mm in thickness.
What a beaut. The orange is also why I love the Rolex Milgauss.
Very good looking watch, especially with that orange strap! Good purchase.
I agree, this is the best generation (IMHO anyway) of Aqua-Terra.
It's a beautiful watch.
Personally, I don't mind the shorter lugs of the current line up and definitely prefer the date at 6.
I'm torn between one of the Shades and tje new black lacquered dial in 38mm...
This video is eye candy mate! I love the Aqua Terra for officially being the world's most versatile watch! Wherever you are, you can never go wrong with an Aqua Terra. In one specific point I disagree though. I'd always prefer the symmetrical case design and I really like the conical crown.
You weren't the one who gave me a thumbs down on this video were you Alex?
😂😂
Love ya mate, stay well
@@PeterKotsa Likewise matey! Giving you a thumbs down is something I'd never dare! 😅

I was messing with you brother🙏
@@PeterKotsa I know! 😆
You bought the right AT! I have the same generation but blue dial. It’s the best looking one.
Good choice Great, enjoy mate
Well done Peter ! I love the Aqua Terra. Those colors look great as well. If I buy another Omega it will be ab Aqua Terra. 👍
What a stunning watch! You seem to find all the lookers! I don't have an Omega yet. Really enjoy the ones you find. Still thinking about the grey gmt on the brick road bracelet. Great video.....thanks
Im loving that silver brick road, its a real looker for sure
Really nice piece. Congrats on the new addition.
Thank you kindly Kendall
Nice purchase. I've been looking on grey market and none of the prices budged. I'm looking at omega and tudor and breitling for the past 7 months.
The bargains are coming. At the moment you get a glimpse here and there however the prices are defiantly coming down. I saw a mint Tudor BB58 with bracelet and full set go for a $1000 under retail the other day

I agree with you on the design elements and proportions of this model AT's lug to lug compared to the newest gen AT while it's a great watch can look slightly squat compared to how your model looks, this is a beautiful piece sir, enjoy it.
Will do, cheers
Great watch Peter!! I’m definitely getting some Milgauss vibes with those orange details, so iconic!!
yeah I can see a little Milgy in this..😂
Beautiful watch, you know the right one when you try it on and it makes you smile
Fantastic purchase Peter, enjoy your new watch.
Thank you, will do!
I've been looking into getting an aquaterra and this video was a great help!
Glad I could help Israel
Best of luck
Good looking watch. I have the blue dial GMT version of this generation, and quite happy with it. The only thing that disappointed me was the AR coating on the exterior of the crystal has worn off in places. I'm intending to take it to a watchmaker to have the coating removed entirely from the exterior.
Let me know how you go with the removal as I have often thought about getting it done myself
cheers
Lovely watch Peter, always go preowned. Was thinking of getting a aqua terra, but decided on the bb silver and gold. Still like my divers too much . If I had got the aqua terra it would be the grey face one with black indices , very modern and striking. Probably will at some point although I need to be ruthless now, and get down to just 3. I don't need anymore than that . But time will tell, lol, cos I ain't managed it yet !!!
have been looking at the AT and was getting all excited about it until your lume comment....would you happen to know if the newer models are better in that department? I have a globemaster which isnt bad, but ive been lume spoiled with the the tudors/seikos. thanks, great review
Completely agree. I tried to love the current models but couldn't. I went with the 41.5mm 8500 Spectre model and absolutely love it.
Enjoy it Phil, very nice watch 🔥
Great purchase Peter and I love the orange.🧡
Well well, a new aqua terra is coming to town. 😂 beautiful watch Peter.
Thanks for the video
I couldn’t resist 😊😂
Got the 41mm calibre 8900 myself in march this year, I loove it! In general the AT is a great watch. My next one will be a speedy
Ouff! On the milanese mesh .. dear god .. it's awesome! Damn you Peter, I'm in trouble now!!!
😂
She is gorgeous with the Artem black bracelet!
Have the exact watch model and feel the same. Perfection!
Very nice watch, thank you for showing.
I also couldnt rplace mine with a newer aqua terra they look great but some details can not make me give mine up for them, I own the 2500 mov. aqua terra blue dial with the weird white date window, i will never sell that thing its gorgeous.
It's got the lot - although some say the case is too shiny (?) - perhaps an all brushed option should be available?
I'm waiting for all your dislikes (& the date at 6 ? - too used to looking at '3') to be reversed in a new model ( wishful thinking...).
Love the splash of orange!
Love your vids! Also agreed on gen 2, love the longer lug to lug … I see that too on the change from the 1861 to 3861 Speedy as well, thus I nabbed a NIB 1861, love it!! And great taste, I also own a Sinn 556 (which has become my “beater” lol) 👍
I love your viedeos! I'm so calm right now... Thanks!
Great review Peter. I will agree that my pet peeve on mine is that muffin shaped crown. So awful to interact with!
Love the idea of buying what fits you & your style & budget vs the latest and greatest... still rockin my 2512.50.00 aqua terra for that very reason. Although, this model is stunning!
Right on Brian, enjoy it my friend 👍
Congrats. Great find. Looks incredible on the Milanese.
I’m a little fearful of pre-owned; only have 1 that was only a few months old; microbrand that only drops a few hundred a yr so knew that was probably my only option.
Very nice watch. I’ve been looking for my first omega and I’m zeroing in on a seamaster chrono from the 70’s. Reference 176.007.
I think it all comes down to preference. I prefer the latest version because the shorter lug to lugs makes it a nicer fit for me. I also prefer the symmetry of the case and the date at the 6.
👍
Great choice. What a solid performer
Looks great Pete. Bought a few pre owned and never had a problem. Just do your homework before you buy.thsnks Pete
Well said Mal, cheers brother
Hi Pete. I thinking of buying my first Omega. I fell in love with Aqua Terra. Love the dial designs. I'm in NZ. Cam you suggest place where I can get new or pre owned omega online? Did you buy your recent one online? Thanks
Start by looking at Facebook marketplace or buy sell forums on Facebook
I’m with you on the Orange colour👍
Prices have only just begun to come down
You're right PK, A/R coating on the outside is silly. Looks good on the Milanese bracelet. Wear it in good health mate.
