I think the writers have always struggled with him because he can't talk so it's hard to do good characterisation. They even referred to him as a 'prop' in the early seasons. The best recent episode he had was The City Part of Town. I think the best thing they've done with him is his alter ego Mysterio which also explains that he can't die.
L W in the 92 film, kenny’s mouth is visible, and his voice is much clearer. should’ve just done it like that, honestly. But with a muffled voice, they can get past the sensors, and slip in some real dirty jokes, which is cool too. You can still understand him unless he talks fast, and his voice is probably the closest to a real kid

I don't understand what you all are talking about, I tried watching old South Park season 1 clips, and then compare them to the new clips and it sounds rather the same to me, only in lower quality, though that's probably because I'm probably not finding the correct videos, since I was searching youtube for it, since due to the poor internet connection I'm getting in America, the South Park official website no longer loads episodes for me anymore (it loaded episodes in Europe, I moved to Europe for some time, but now I'm back in America and I can no longer watch episodes on the website, which sucks, because I was binge-watching South Park about a month ago and I want to continue)
I still love South Park (obviously) but I do hope that this next season they go back to independent, self contained episodes rather than season long storylines we've seen these past few seasons.
season 19 was great. It had a central theme but the story arcs weren't more than 3 episodes long and they had a different topic in each arc. Season 20 was over-serialized. Having 10 episodes which are linked closely together and just about trolling is tiring.
Actually i highly enjoy those longer storylines. It really appealed to me and loved watching it. It was exciting and the episode content felt less 'empty' than you would have with standalone episodes. When i saw that season about political correctness, i was so excited about that new structure that i suddenly felt way more drawn to the show
an interesting tidbit about South Park that you'll NEVER notice unless you use closed captions, is that in early seasons Kenny has no dialog and everything is muffled in later seasons they actually give him dialog in the closed captions.
ya but in early seasons you can't tell at all what he's saying, CC on or off. my point is that in newer seasons while his voice is still muffled they show what he is saying in CC.

I think the fact that they started creating more continuity is what really improved the show. I love continuity in non serious shows like South park, when there's lore and the characters become more fleshed out

Here in England next to nobody watches SNL. The majority of the few people who “do” only watch short minute or so long clips on the UA-cam trending page. South Park was massive when I was growing up and even now kids and adults at least know of it or have seen an episode or movie. Worldwide, south park has had a far greater impact.

They definitely did multiple other episodes like that after that time as well, where several events happen at the same time.
I'd say South Park became better in later seasons, however, the last season was one of the worst. Main problem was that every episode was connected and every episode felt like a repeat from the previous one. I really hope they are going back to one off episodes next season.

I liked when the 4 main boys were the central focus. Butters was a happy care free puff ball. He arcs weren’t a season long. They didn’t just focus politics. Cartman wasn’t nice. The episodes didn’t make you cry(I’m looking at you stan and Kenny). And it was just a fun show to watch to stop worrying about the outside world.
I hate the serialized structure, that is one of the worst detriments to South Park, even if "tv is changing" South Park was always different, and serialization creates a system where one subject that could've been handled in a single episode (for example internet trolling) is stretched over an entire season.

Some people aren't a fan of the newer episodes, but i love the more adult themes. It's a much more grown up show and i enjoy it. The overarching themes and plots appeal to me, because they'r more structured and organized than individual ones. I love the show. And i'll be sad when it finally goes.

DerVideoSchauer thinking it’s good, even really good, is totally fine, but the best? Personally, the run from seasons 5 through 8 are overall some of the best episodes episodes of any cartoon ever (season 7 is my personal favorite). That’s not a knock against the other seasons though, I like every season of the show to an extent.
TeddySpaghetti7 maybe it’s different for you, but most elementary schools go up to 6th grade (including theirs), so they won’t be the oldest in school when they’re in 5th grade.
This biggest change is obviously the continuity of the episodes in the seasons. Used to be random episodes not linked to the last whereas all the episodes connect with each other chronologically. It's added a lot to the show and allowed them to expand more on their social commentary. But it can turn into a long, dragged on joke if they don't pick the right content.
My favorite series ever I have watched it over so many times including the banned episodes. The most recent seasons aren't as good but it still gets a good laugh out of me.
Oliwer I feel like a way that it could be explained in the show is that he’s gone through puberty so that’s why his voice has changed. I mean it’s so weird because this show has been around since 1997 and you’re just sitting there watching them grow up before your eyes.
Seasons 18 and 19 are some of my favorites in the entire series. I was hugely disappointed with season 20 while it was airing but have softened up to it slightly. I think they should stick with the light continuity like in 18/19, but not make it completely serialized like in 20.
Fun fact:the OMG YOU KILLED KENNY gag still happens like in season 8 ep 10 where kenny dies in the game the gag still comes just kenny doesn’t die more often in later seasons

First three seasons were raw as, middle of forth season the boys went into 4th grade class, but the 4th grade vibes didn’t really start until season 5, season 4 still felt like seasons 1-3 but the classroom was different and different teacher, that could be technology and direction of the show was heading when the start of the 2000s was a major turning point. I like the first few seasons for its raw and dirty humour but I also like the more recent ones too, since season 10 South Park has caught up with the times and started to get more political.
Just horrible , god awful and I have been Trey and Matt stone supporter for years, this is blowing chunks and it by far does not top the 3D intro, not even close.. Randy is being played out, what made Randy funny is that he came up now and again and made it hilarious but Randy is just played out now.
Great all the way through. I like the new format but I'm not really into the 3D intro. The writing hasn't changed much just the time has. Even most of the toilet humour has always been funnier than 'fart' haha. To really look at topics well they need to be spread out. Also the PC thing is funny because it did get out of hand didn't it? Like don't assume my gender to don't assume an animate object doesn't have a gender. South Park made fun (and sense) out of stuff getting a little out of hand. Lucky they called it the town right though? Names like family guy and the Simpsons are pretty locked in. Yeah, I feel like new anything feels plain, over-polished, unsaturated and boring.

DerVideoSchauer thinking it’s good, even really good, is totally fine, but the best? Personally, the run from seasons 5 through 8 are overall some of the best episodes episodes of any cartoon ever (season 7 is my personal favorite). That’s not a knock against the other seasons though, I like every season of the show to an extent.

He did that and two years later (i believe) he died.
This biggest change is obviously the continuity of the episodes in the seasons. Used to be random episodes not linked to the last whereas all the episodes connect with each other chronologically. It's added a lot to the show and allowed them to expand more on their social commentary. But it can turn into a long, dragged on joke if they don't pick the right content.
Season 1&2 were... "special",
Season 3-12 were pure Gold, and afterwards it went a bit downhill.
But the last 2 seasons were pretty good again !
Tbh season 13 is my favorite season

My favorite series ever I have watched it over so many times including the banned episodes. The most recent seasons aren't as good but it still gets a good laugh out of me.

Oliwer I feel like a way that it could be explained in the show is that he’s gone through puberty so that’s why his voice has changed. I mean it’s so weird because this show has been around since 1997 and you’re just sitting there watching them grow up before your eyes.

Seasons 18 and 19 are some of my favorites in the entire series. I was hugely disappointed with season 20 while it was airing but have softened up to it slightly. I think they should stick with the light continuity like in 18/19, but not make it completely serialized like in 20.

I remember buying Southpark on VHS,I'd imagine a lot of today's audience wouldn't have used one. Big up Southpark for being here 23 seasons later with success,relatability and relevance still in abundance.
I still like South Park but I wish they do more relatable humour more often. Less politics and social topics. Alltough the tourette episode is one of my favourites.

It has always been social commentary
First three seasons were raw as, middle of forth season the boys went into 4th grade class, but the 4th grade vibes didn’t really start until season 5, season 4 still felt like seasons 1-3 but the classroom was different and different teacher, that could be technology and direction of the show was heading when the start of the 2000s was a major turning point. I like the first few seasons for its raw and dirty humour but I also like the more recent ones too, since season 10 South Park has caught up with the times and started to get more political.

Just horrible , god awful and I have been Trey and Matt stone supporter for years, this is blowing chunks and it by far does not top the 3D intro, not even close.. Randy is being played out, what made Randy funny is that he came up now and again and made it hilarious but Randy is just played out now.

Great all the way through. I like the new format but I'm not really into the 3D intro. The writing hasn't changed much just the time has. Even most of the toilet humour has always been funnier than 'fart' haha. To really look at topics well they need to be spread out. Also the PC thing is funny because it did get out of hand didn't it? Like don't assume my gender to don't assume an animate object doesn't have a gender. South Park made fun (and sense) out of stuff getting a little out of hand. Lucky they called it the town right though? Names like family guy and the Simpsons are pretty locked in.
It doesn't mean stuff doesn't get done in single episodes (aka the Simpson format) but it means it isn't left behind. Btw I don't think either Tweak or Craig are gay.
I like Chef the most out of the other characters. It sucked when they had to killed him because he was the wise men or go to person when something goes wrong.
It has changed so much, but still one of the best shows, and nothing can change my mind
