Old Family Guy kept jokes clever and the writers knew the audience would get it. New Family Guy always seems to feel the need to explain the jokes to audience, with characters like Peter always saying “it’s funny because ___” or “I’m also in this cutaway” or like in the cutaway where Peter is crying in a car to sad music then in an instant starts dancing to happy music, feeling the need to tell the audience “I’m very easily influenced by music” as though the audience wouldn’t already get the joke...

Creepy Closet yeah, Family Guy seems to be going the route of the Simpsons in recent years, having jumped the proverbial shark in far fewer seasons than the Simpsons. Whereas Family Guy used to be super clever and extremely sharp in their humor, while featuring a few extremely offensive bits that were actually funny and socially relevant to the time or it's original airing, where in the last few years it has gotten dumbed down and has become painfully obvious that they are trying too hard to be shocking and offensive to the detriment of the overall show. Where it used to be clever with it's shocking and offensive bits, now most of the shock value is ignorant and not funny, instead just trying to offend and shock large portions of the population for no other discernable reason than trying to be offensive, minus the cleverness of earlier seasons.
Infernitis you don't know anything family guy sucks now the jokes aren't funny they have too much shocking and gross out the characters are no longer likable they are all assholes that don't know morality they make the joker look like a saint family was strong around seasons 1-7 now it sucks your an idiot and a fan boy who hates criticism a real FAN would see the flaws of FG your not a fan ur a FANBOY to stubborn to see the obvious problems your worse than Brian griffin and don't compare FG to rick and morty which has better writing likable characters clever dialogue something that family guy USED to have
I'll admit having a Stewie &Brian spinoff would be enjoyable to watch, I have a few reservations about it. For instance, how is it okay for the family dog to become the sole provider for a baby? Would they still be in Family Guy? Wouldn't we get a little bored after season 2? I mean we see episodes centered around these two every now and again and we're all "Woo! It's been a while!" but if it's an every episode thing, will it lose its sparkly pizzazz and become overdone?
You’re exactly right because there’s only so many ideas creators can realistically come up with for a Brian & Stewie spin-off, it has been a while since they made a “Brian and Stewie” episode 💯🤷🏾♂️
Neon Dragon The focus and interaction changes per episode featuring different cast members. That IS Family Guy! Forget spinoffs that just rob FG of fresh storylines.
The problem with current Family Guy is that they seem they ran out of jokes. The animation is still pretty good. The voice casting still nailed it. I just wish the show could either improve on stories or just end.
PtG Captain27 Nice counterpoint. I love how you gave concrete facts to back up your opinions. I love Family Guy almost as much as I love Rick & Morty, btw.
PtG Captain27 I don't know about Family Guy being better than the Simpsons. I adore the Simpsons very much, but if the Simpsons didn't exist, there would be no Family Guy. So give Simpsons credit for being one of the inspiration of Family Guy.
+PtG Captain27, Family Guy isn't even close to Rick and Morty in terms of writing or character. Rick and Morty is smartly written with good jokes and still manages to have a coherent story. Family Guy is just a bunch of low brow cutaway jokes that don't even fit with the plot of the episode. Family Guy does not have adult humor, Rick and Morty, Bojack Horseman and South Park have adult humor. Family Guy, ironically enough, is for children or teenagers. Not adults.
Considering Family Guy's more polished look nowadays, as well as the fact that *a single Family Guy episode takes AN ENTIRE YEAR to make*, you're only making yourself look foolish and biased by making the unfounded claim of "Family Guy has LAZY animation nowadays!". In the words of Stewart Gilligan Griffin: "You poor, damn fool."
Family Guy Then = A good Well Written Show with Good Humor and Jokes. Family Guy After Season 7 = A Below Average show with Low Brow Humor relying on Shock Humor for the sake of Shocking Humor.
Joe Taylor Yes! I loved old Brian! Sure he's always been a Liberal Know it all. But back then it was entertaining because it was well written and well incorporated into jokes but now he's Seth's Political Spokesman
Family guy is still hilarious and every once in a while they have a good plot, but I agree that the writers have gotten very lazy and ran out of ideas.
The older episodes are definitely better but I do love the way that Brian and stewies relationship has developed over the years to where it is now. That being said, my favourite episode will always be the road to Rhode Island when they were paired up for the first time. They hit the jackpot with that episode and have been in their element ever since. I have always said if family guy only consisted of stewie and Brian I would still watch it.
Seasons 1-3 had well written character interactions and development. Seasons 4-11 had much better stories and comedy while still having some good character moments. Then came season 12 where things just fell apart. Honestly the last good Family Guy episode(really good) was Lego my Mego. Now, if the other characters don't do something interesting within the first few minutes, I just skip to when Stewie is onscreen. Though I'll probably watch the new season to see if the writers fix their mistakes, since they have revealed that they noticed the downgrade as well and are going to try fixing that while experimenting with longer stories.
Jake Pulley No no you got it all wrong. Seasons 4-11 is when the show was starting to signify some changes but the show went to complete crap when it was at Season 6 or 7. I mean seriously an episode where Peter gets a stroke and we watch him for 20 minutes, the OJ episode that tried to do satire but failed, Brian changing into a liberal for marijuana. All those episodes suck. The show just got worse and worse and worse using attempts to shock or offend us for no reason at all. There is no point or goal to it it's just for the sake of it and that's jus the most idiotic thing they can do. Why would I laugh at that? There's no reason. Also the despicable things the characters makes me hate them even more all the sad attempts at repeated jokes and cutaways that don't add my story to the plot or likeability to the characters. This show sucks and it's time for cancellation.
Did you even actually watch that episode where Peter gets a stroke because that's not even the focus of the episode. He get's a moustache but it burns off when he charges into a burning restaurant to save someone. That guy is the owner of the Resturaunt who offers him free food for life. He then eats too much so he has a stroke. This lasts about 5 minutes before he's fixed. Then the rest of the episode is him trying to take down the resturaunt by discovering the slaughter house and befriending a talking cow.
For me, Family Guy was a great show - when it first started. It broke ground. It was canceled - TWICE! Today, in the most recent episodes, it lost it's heart. I truly believe that the death of Bryan was just a cheap ploy to try and get back some of that heart it lost. It's not the same show anymore.
ya I thinks Seth McFarland has mentally moved on to other things but is still doing the show because he gets payed so much for it. same goes for most everyone else.
Frank James Bailey seth mcfarlane actually stated he did that whole brian stunt just to "teach fans a lesson" and show that you should appreciate your loved ones because youll never know when theyll be gone, and brian was going to come back quickly after but i dont believe that at all.
So Stewie is an evil baby because of his sexual ambiguity? Is this Seth MacFarlane’s way of trying to get people to come out of the closet? If you don’t, then you’ll want to kill your mom and take over the world? That is far left wing👈🏻
Better image quality and higher budget? The animation now looks lazy, the character are less expressive (even lost their eyebrows) and side characters don't look distinct.
@@ALVINNNthechipmunks_songs Its called criticism. You need to let people criticize the show and not just defend it with "AnImAtIoN iS hArD" You sound like an odd1sout fan. Chill out
@@ALVINNNthechipmunks_songs I never said anything against the "person", I criticized the show, so I don't know why you're posting any of this. In addition, by your logic, things like grades in schools and employment reference letters shouldn't exist because it could hurt "people's feelings". It doesn't work like that. It is crucial to be honest with someone in most aspects of life and criticism is something that you need to learn to deal with. Criticism is how you become a better person and find your talents or how to improve at them. You should know what I mean if as a kid you ever got criticized for doing bad things, like hitting another child or throwing garbage on the streets. I never put the blame on anyone specifically, I just criticized the show itself. The animation budget constraints are probably a decision by higher-ups and not the actual artists anyway. But it doesn't matter. I don't know whose fault it is, I merely spoke my opinion on the show.
Seasons 1-3 were brilliant! The characters were lovable and each had their chance to shine. The older designs were better as well and I think the actors did a better job back then. Since 05 the show has had some occasional funny moments but it’s definitely lost it’s way and it’s never been the same.
You know what's weird? I laugh more on current and middle seasons of family guy then I do with the very earlier seasons. I like family guy, and the reason why is because now a days I see it how South Park fans see cartman. Family guy is now a show what not to do if you have family and shows just how cruel a family can be.
It was pretty bad. I know the voice actor is white, but after the C-Show, Cleveland actually sounded completely 100% white compared to when he was on Family Guy -before- the C-Show. Just sounds like an old white man now, when back then he sounded relatively African American and even kind of "groovy" or textured in his voicing style.
One thing you guys didn't mention that I absolutely HATE is Chris understanding Stewie in the later episodes of Family Guy. It just doesn't feel right.
I personally love the new Family Guy. It is so funny to me! I love the episode where Kevin comes back from the military and Peter is all like "I haven't talked to Carol the whole night. Hey Carol!" It's just so out of place but so hilarious lol
I noticed that Peter used to care a little more for his family in the early days, there was a birthday party for Stewie he ruined and was worried about how to fix it, today's Peter wouldn't do that.
Family Guy, classic Family Guy, has a certain charm about it. Everything just fits you know? The cutaways aren't forced and the humor is it's own; not just crude, gross out, college boy humor. I don't know. Early Family Guy is just great.
+toongamer My Mom was born and raised in Peru and my Dad was born and raised in Greek Cyprus but I was born in Queens NY but I can speak and read Greek and the other guy just said "goodbye" in Greek lol
The problem with the newer seasons is that there are no characters. Just archetypes being swapped around every episode. Meg rebounds from punching bag to emotional teenage girl every other episode, and same goes with other characters. There is no foundation in the relationships between characters, so any form of shock humor or drama just falls flat. Lois has the be one of the worst, since she has no personality and the show wouldn’t even change if you replaced her with a card board cutout of Welma from the Flintstones. They try to portray the characters with a sense of self awareness, but it only makes it worse since they know its bad, and they’ve practically given up at this point. Most of the characters point out the fact that they’re making a joke instead of letting the joke play out, which ruins an joke that could’ve worked. We get it, you are visually showing us the joke, why do you have to narrate what’s happening? Im guessing its because the only people that still watch it are either high, not paying attention, or filed under special needs.
I truely hate what they did with Brians character. They changed him from the intelligent voice of reason into an egocentric douchebag. But I still love the Stewie/Brian episodes, these remind me of the old Brian.
Steffie Dreessen Brian is more interesting as he deals with or learns the pitfalls of his hypocracy and narcissism. Much better than just always being some voice of reason.
I think I started to lose interest at around Season 9. Kinda spooky that Season 9 is also the Season where The Simpsons began to decline. Personally if Family Guy were still on the air or to be cancelled, I wouldn't really mind either way. As for The Simpsons, yeah that show has been awful for over a decade. Futurama should have replaced it.
Nope. Futurama was fantastic on its own and it is so good that they killed it off while it was still shining. All my memories of Futurama are love, but the Simpsons and Family Guy ran their course a long time ago.
* after the video is over * So, in other words, even though Family Guy isn't what it used to be, it's not necessarily THE worst show in the world. Right? If so, I blame the real world and humanity for screwing itself up, thus making Family Guy become screwed up since its a show that's based on the controversies of real life and media. Don't believe me or think that's true? Just look at what happened to South Park during its 20th Season.
Sorta wished they had more episodes featuring the rest of the side characters. Pretty much all episodes nowadays mainly focus on the Peter, Stewie and Brian, with the occasional Meg, Chris and Lois episodes, and also mainly features secondary characters like Joe, Cleveland and Quagmire. If it ain't those characters being in every episode, then usually Mayor west, Tom or Carter having their episodes. Sorta wish the other characters had an episode to themselves (Hell, an episode revolving around Peter and the giant chicken trying to get along would actually be pretty neat, since we only see the giant chicken in the chicken fights, with some rare scenes of him appearing in non-chicken fight scenes)
I'd argue that the animation got worse. The oldschool style has much more motion and emotion. The new style is stiff and heavily relies on reused models and model positions.
Brian is my favorite family guy character was from day 1. Him and Peter are what makes the show Stewie is growing on me somewhat though. I like Joe and Quagmire alot too
You're right, it did get cancelled, but it was because of people's love for season's 1-3 that it got bought back. When it first aired, Family Guy was a great show that flew under the radar, then more people discovered it and realised how great it was and it got revived. Instead of taking the show in a different direction, they should have continued the show where they left off.
The animation isn't the issue with the new look it's the new angles. It used to use very basic medium shots as a parody of other sitcoms, but now it uses others like the over-the-shoulder, which looks ATROCIOUS, especially when they dolly in.
tbh after season 6 this was a completely different show, i definitely prefer the old episodes but i still enjoy the new ones as i find that the characters though completely different are still funny and loveable. watching after season six is like watching a completely different show but with the same people

9:25 isn't Jillian, it's his running girlfriend from the episode where Brian decides to become a runner and gets bone thin
At least I think so, may be wrong
Nah u right I just seen that episode today
6:41 "I don't go out with dudes" 😂😂😂
"Did we miss any South Park differences?! Let us know in the comments below!"
How did no one notice this?
They should make a spin off of peter, joe, cleveland and quagmire going on adventures. Ide watch that anyday
They've had a few episodes like that.
Not adults.
JONATHAN PINZON Family Guy has LAZY animation nowadays!
***** Yes
Family guy was amazing until season 11
john solero I got put off around season 7
Joe Taylor Yes! I loved old Brian! Sure he's always been a Liberal Know it all. But back then it was entertaining because it was well written and well incorporated into jokes but now he's Seth's Political Spokesman
Family guy is still hilarious and every once in a while they have a good plot, but I agree that the writers have gotten very lazy and ran out of ideas.
“But now he just rolls around in a pile of jokes, never learning from his mistakes” is the best description I’ve heard of Peter’s current state.
**Starts Video**
"It seems today that..."
**Likes the Video**
Am I the only one that likes the old choppy hand drawn pre 2011 look. The new one is too polished for me if thats a thing?
They've been much better at the first seasons!
Although, a new Brian and Stewie road trip episode(s) could be very fun.
Great video!
Old Brian was better. New Brian is the worst.
ConcededHadesIV i like new brian
FirstOrderTrooper 2 both of them are great but old Brian has more personality
All of the major characters including Quagmire and Joe were better in their older versions
I don't know why people hate him so much. I love him I just wish they kept him as being smart, not just pretending to be smart
Coco The people that hate him are people who don't like liberals. He's the strawman they stereotype all liberals as.
Chris also lost his earings
Funny thing is both Peter icons are from the "old" art.
Also, the jogger in the pink at the door is not Jillian.
The Red Sterling Mc'Bae yup
Brian went from man's best friend to complete and utter simp
You forgot to mention between that Happy Go Lucky Toys and Pawtucket Brewery Peter used to be a fisherman.
Ironic Mila Kunis voicing Meg. That's like Bill Gates voicing a hobo
Brian*
I think family guy can be funny at times
So Stewie is an evil baby because of his sexual ambiguity? Is this Seth MacFarlane’s way of trying to get people to come out of the closet? If you don’t, then you’ll want to kill your mom and take over the world? That is far left wing👈🏻
OH GOD. OLD NEEDS TO WIN
Better image quality and higher budget?
The animation now looks lazy, the character are less expressive (even lost their eyebrows) and side characters don't look distinct.
@@ALVINNNthechipmunks_songs
Its called criticism.
You need to let people criticize the show and not just defend it with
"AnImAtIoN iS hArD"
You sound like an odd1sout fan. Chill out
@@ALVINNNthechipmunks_songs I never said anything against the "person", I criticized the show, so I don't know why you're posting any of this.
Family Guy hasn't evolved, it's devolved.
So has dragon ball
@@ti-fiter Amen dragon ball super sucks
You know what's weird? I laugh more on current and middle seasons of family guy then I do with the very earlier seasons. I like family guy, and the reason why is because now a days I see it how South Park fans see cartman. Family guy is now a show what not to do if you have family and shows just how cruel a family can be.
am i the only one who liked the Cleveland Show?
apparently other seven people liked it too
it was ok.
I love the Cleveland Show. Rallo is my favorite character followed by Lester lmao
WMICx i also liked the Cleveland show
am I the only person who still enjoys family guy
Julian Shipp I'm still with you
Same here
Still the most socially relevant show on TV.
NO
You're among the 5 or so people left that can still stand that show
"Thanks didn't wanna pay for the hole"
Ahahaha poor meg
I prefer the old animation but I don't mind the show's long running. Yes Brian and Stewie should get their own show.
I hate the way they treat Meg.
So do l
I KNOW RIGHT!?! Abuse is NOT funny!
Whos Meg?
Dragex the daughter
it's funny lol, stop being a kid
I just wish the characters were a little more redeemable now like they were back then
One thing you guys didn't mention that I absolutely HATE is Chris understanding Stewie in the later episodes of Family Guy. It just doesn't feel right.
Chris in general got totally fucked by the changes.
He's had the same girl trouble plot, what, like 20 times now? it's nauseating.
Chris really is the least important character
Brian is always gonna be my favorite character, I grew to like him more in the later seasons.
I like him in all
I personally love the new Family Guy. It is so funny to me! I love the episode where Kevin comes back from the military and Peter is all like "I haven't talked to Carol the whole night. Hey Carol!" It's just so out of place but so hilarious lol
Go away
Older seasons are better.
At least 1-3
@@stephenking5852 4s great too.
@@stephenking5852 I'd say family guy's prime was seasons 2-6
Yeah cause back then Lois used to be a decent lady and a good mother to Meg, she should still be like that now really.
Cap
I found it funny and sad at the same time for Meg.
Omg I love your videos
I noticed that Peter used to care a little more for his family in the early days, there was a birthday party for Stewie he ruined and was worried about how to fix it, today's Peter wouldn't do that.
Family Guy, classic Family Guy, has a certain charm about it. Everything just fits you know? The cutaways aren't forced and the humor is it's own; not just crude, gross out, college boy humor. I don't know. Early Family Guy is just great.
I personally prefer the old style of animation. It felt more free and dynamic, whereas the new animation looks uniform and robotic.
It looks default, default is the word
I love your vids keep going bro
except that there are more bros than you ever thought of
Futurama
ok bye now

+toongamer My Mom was born and raised in Peru and my Dad was born and raised in Greek Cyprus but I was born in Queens NY but I can speak and read Greek and the other guy just said "goodbye" in Greek lol
Harry Christofi lel
so um am i the only one who actually loves family guy STILL?
Haha no
Yes, only idiots like you
Big Smoke weeb
You know a show's bad when a DISCUSSION on said show is way more interesting & better than the content of said show.
Family guy's still pretty good
Nowon & DPool Productions nu
No family is garbage now
Love the "Road To" episodes, but I don't think a spin-off with them 2 would be the best idea.
Looked better in 1999 and early 00s
Great passing of the video man, felt like you guys didn’t waste a minute
Do American Dad then and now pls!!!
rene felix nu
I can hardly imagine that being different. That came out just as the Family Guy went down this path. It just has less cutaways than FG
Ronnie James Deodorant American dad came out during the classic family guy era
2005 is about a year or two into bad Family Guy
Ronnie James Deodorant 2005 was season 4, the best family guy season.
Wouldn't it be more fitting for now Peter to have that dull bored expression that is on every character 90% of the time in modern Family Guy.
I appreciate the older animations as they have more expressions & character. The later ones are just too smooth.
Now I kinda wish William H Macy played Brian now.
I kinda started to lose interest in a few episodes in Season 16, but even then new Family Guy is still funny and my #1 favorite show
Matt Thornton For me it got way better after season 8-9
The Simpsons' decline for me was Season 25.
Pink Spongebob 35 relatable
Hand painted animation is far superior to computer animation.
Does Stewie even say What The Deuce!? Anymore?
That’s one of the reasons why not many people like the new Family Guy.
I love this type of videos
The biggest changes with the characters in family guy were that they used to use the eyebrows to show expressions now they just use their eyelids LOL
* after the video is over *
So, in other words, even though Family Guy isn't what it used to be, it's not necessarily THE worst show in the world. Right?
If so, I blame the real world and humanity for screwing itself up, thus making Family Guy become screwed up since its a show that's based on the controversies of real life and media.
Don't believe me or think that's true? Just look at what happened to South Park during its 20th Season.
wolfguy23 o
wolfguy23 we do NOT speak of that season, EVER!
Tf Jr What was wrong with it?
MajerCore1 South Park season 20? Everything after Papa Trump got elected
Tf Jr wat happened
Lowkey miss the old animation very nostalgic
Family guy is funnier than the Simpsons
I will always love family guy.
Same
I'd argue that the animation got worse. The oldschool style has much more motion and emotion. The new style is stiff and heavily relies on reused models and model positions.
i liked old family guy. no more shocking edgy polical jokes. brian became an awful character being too left wing
JamesPlaysGames95 #triggered
Hammond Think The whole "Triggered" thing is for making fun of leftists. Kind of ironic that you're using it.
Sono
Yeah, but his character just devolved into him being a dumb liberal.
Brian is my favorite family guy character was from day 1. Him and Peter are what makes the show Stewie is growing on me somewhat though. I like Joe and Quagmire alot too
The characters where so much more like able back then and the show was funnier
I love the new adorable Stewie.
I say, what the devil is all the fuss about? I don't get it, what's in there? *BING BONG HELLO*
I like the animation them it had a good color and I liked how the outlines squiggle every time the character moves
Why did Family Guy change after season 3 it wasn't broken it was well written and funny!!! I just want to know why change it ??!
wreckin_& Rantin Got canceled
You're right, it did get cancelled, but it was because of people's love for season's 1-3 that it got bought back. When it first aired, Family Guy was a great show that flew under the radar, then more people discovered it and realised how great it was and it got revived. Instead of taking the show in a different direction, they should have continued the show where they left off.
When I feel like watching family guy I marathon the first three seasons, then pull back for a while and watch it again. The humor is so much better
I think it was still good a couple of seasons afterwards
The animation isn't the issue with the new look it's the new angles. It used to use very basic medium shots as a parody of other sitcoms, but now it uses others like the over-the-shoulder, which looks ATROCIOUS, especially when they dolly in.
Regular Show > Adventure Time
yes
no
The old just.. looks better its so much more smooth and less static and it has such a charm to it.
New looks cleaner old is just better
tbh after season 6 this was a completely different show, i definitely prefer the old episodes but i still enjoy the new ones as i find that the characters though completely different are still funny and loveable. watching after season six is like watching a completely different show but with the same people
