IN THE 1980'S , I REMEMBER WALKING DOWN THE STREET , ON A HOT SUNDAY EVENING. EVERYONE HAD THEIR WINDOWS OPEN, AND I COULD HEAR EVERY WORD OF BLACKADDER, AND THE ROARS OF LAUGHTER AS I PAST BY. IT WILL NEVER BE MATCHED, LET ALONE BETTERED.
What is amazing is how entertaining and popular Blackadder is worldwide, even today. Very quotable and many great quotes by either Blackadder or Baldrick. I got the full Blackadder box set and i'm never ever gonna sell it.
As you're also watching Porridge, the actor who played the bishop (Ronald Lacey) also appears in Porridge but I doubt you'd recognise him. He also played the Gestapo officer in the first Indiana Jones film, Raiders of the Lost Ark, but I doubt you'd even recognise him in that role either even when you know it's him. Not with all the different makeup, accents and costumes in all three roles.
I just did a quick google search! You're right! The characters look totally different! 😂 I haven't seen Raiders of the Lost Ark since I was a kid, so I don't remember exactly the characters (other than Indiana Jones, of course!)
It's such clever humour, and almost always with a twist like the "career in the church" line. Love the line where they're drugging the bishop and he realises and exclaims, "drugged, by God," and Blackadder replies, "no, by Baldrick actually, but the effect is much the same." So funny. Toss up between this and the next episode for my favourite of this series. Guest appearance by Hugh Laurie (he of the House fame).
The reason some men in England nowadays, myself included, walk on the outside when with a woman, harps back to Elizabethan times when they just threw their waste out the window. Land being pricey, they would build out after the ground floor, thus inadvertently providing protection for anyone underneath the upper floors. The women also wore platform frames attached to their shoes to wade through the mess. Walking on the outside was gentlemanly, we were told growing up. We were programmed I suppose, to this, as it was then, tradition. Fantastic, love you're reactions ❤❤
Going by some of the sick videos my mate sends me to gross me out, back in the day some people would wait under the windows in medieval times with mouth open hoping a woman would take a crap lol.
Hi there I'm John from England I have to sell really love your reaction video but I must remind you is in Tudor times houses in London especially were right close together and the streets were very narrow basically you you could reach out of your window and stretched across and if you were giving had to give I don't know say a piece of paper to the neighbour instead of going downstairs I'm knocking on the door you could give him the piece of paper through the window that's how close the houses were and yes that's just the way it was in those days they had no idea about sanitation like we do now
"Can you imagine how awkward it would be if you were just walking down the street, and then you just get crapped on?" Strangely enough, I hadn't given it much thought... 🤔
2:31 Is it telling of something in your character. That automatically, your vision and critique goes directly toward his nether regions. ha ha ha ha ha ha

The streets of London were disgusting back then. People shit in a bucket and tipped it out the window. If you look at some of the original Tudor buildings you'll see that they have an overhang so that people could walk underneath without getting crap thrown over them. Life expectancy was pretty low in those days. It was healthier to be a peasant working in the fields than being rich and living in a city like London.
In the old days there was a curfew after which it was permissable to empty the 2nd bucket(no2) out of the window. If you got too drunk and were out after curfew you ran the risk of the bucket being emptied over you. Ergo shit faced.

Why are you SHOUTING? 😖
The bloke who played the Bishop of Bath and Wells also played the sinister Gestapo guy in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.
And Harris in Porridge! An incredibly versatile actor. 😊
That bloke would be be Ronald Lacey, then!!!
Ronald Lacey, I think.

First Blackadder I saw as a child, the line ‘how much do you charge for’…had me in tears 😂

In Edinburgh, and maybe elsewhere, it is not illegal to throw excrement out of the window, as long as you announce it first.

Going by some of the sick videos my mate sends me to gross me out, back in the day some people would wait under the windows in medieval times with mouth open hoping a woman would take a crap lol.
