"Great booze up" is one of my favourite bits of facial acting in history.
Blackadder is a comedic masterpiece (minus the awful first series), and this is such a brilliant episode. I'd love to see your reaction to Miriam Margolyes - the woman who played Lady Whiteadder - and her appearances on Graham Norton's show. She is completely outrageous and absolutely hilarious.
ahh that's such a great idea! I love her. (Or what I've seen of her.) Thanks! :)
As a kid I hated the first series, but watching it recently there's actually a lot to enjoy. It's definitely more subtle, and relies upon knowledge of British history to really get the most out of it. Different but still good.
@@Zappaisgod4983The first series is brilliant. It has its flaws, but also has some real gold in it. I often think that the real reason people do t like it is because it’s in a very different style. It’s not that it’s a bad show. It’s just different. I think I might be right in saying that after it was first shown it wasn’t repeated for absolute ages, and many people didn’t see it at all until 1990 when it came out on VHS, and was subsequently repeated on TV later that year. Whole new audiences found Blackadder from series 2 onwards and had never seen The Blackadder before, so it was a bit of a jolt to the system when they saw how different it was.
I can definitely understand why some people don’t like it, and it was certainly weaker than the other series. I can even understand why Tony Robinson says it was a bit shit. But many of my favourite Blackadder moments come from this series and it will always have a fond place in my heart.
Yeah, I first watched Blackadder in 1989 when I was 6, the second series. Recorded every episode onto VHS and was obsessed with it. I bought series 1 in WH Smith with a Christmas voucher and was immediately disappointed haha. Thought it was boring and deeply unfunny, other than the final episode which I enjoyed possibly because of its violent ending. That feeling continued into my twenties, always thought of it as the lesser series. It's still my least favourite but I can't say it's bad like so many people do. Every time I watch it I pick up on a joke that I never noticed before. I think it's probably, script-wise, the most sophisticated. But that's not why I watch comedy, mostly :P @@GrilloTheFlightless
Hope you enjoyed my life story lol, sorry.
Youre right, its very hard to play drunk. Michael Caine talks well about that in a clip you can find on here. Oddly enough, I had to play a drunk in a production with Miranda Richardson, she is an absolute sweetheart btw, so talented and so funny in person, and not to mention gorgeous (in person and spirit). Great reaction as always.
Ah interesting! I'll have to check out that video.. really? That's amazing! I'm a little jealous you got to act alongside Miranda Richardson not going to lie... it must have been an amazing experience!
It was, and I did fanboy a little. She made me laugh when we were supposed to be mime talking in the background. Very naughty.
The idea that people drank beer instead of water because it was safer is a complete myth.
Miriam Margolyes is a force of nature. Lady (two spikes would be an indulgence) Whiteadder is a scene stealer.
She certainly is!
2:20 it was called "small beer" and water wasnt refreshing straight out of a pond😀
Practically the only kind of beer you could get in Denmark up until Carlsberg came along, was Hvidtøl (white beer, made from white malt barley). It's still being sold in large quantities around Christmas time as Juleøl in Denmark, it's very dark in color, very sweet with no real bitterness to it and with the alcohol % being less than 2.25% but usually just short of 2%, so even in this day and age it's also a favorite among children at Christmas.
In the Royal Navy, the weak beer brewed to make water safe was called (I think) "small beer".
Another great video Megan, love your observations 👍
Miranda Richardson . A gem of an actress !!!!!
"I know I have the body of a weak and feeble woman; but I have the heart and stomach of a king, and of a king of England too, and think foul scorn that Parma or Spain, or any prince of Europe, should dare to invade the borders of my realm: to which rather than any dishonour shall grow by me, I myself will take up arms, I myself will be your general, judge, and rewarder of every one of your virtues in the field."
Elizabeth I in her speech to the troops at Tilbury, 9 August, 1588, during the Spanish Armada.
God I love her.
Also, you might like “Smack the Pony”
That is a forgotten gem!
Did you watch the 1st series? The best of them all.
Brilliant comedy
Are they wearing those crosses or have they stabbed themselves with them? Remember sitting on a spike.
I think people preferred beer to water, because of unhygienic supply of water and its source🤔. Correct me if I'm wrong......
Blackadder getting bladdered.
That seems appropriate.
Or just wrong. Or something.
shame you did not have the time to go through them all. SEASON 6 Episode 4 is very fitting for the week that has just past & the finale. Ill not ruin it for you, but do watch it.
Mead!!
Correct with the weaker beer, It was called "Small Beer",. And alcohol is a word that has existed for 6,000 years, "Kohol" is ancient Sumerian. The "Al" is an Arabic adjunct.
Oh interested! Thanks!
just found your channel and I'm in love now
Thank you! 😊
Who are they supposed to be?
They are people who settled USA, that is probably why Americans have such an attitude towards sex :D
Centuries? Millennia !! Wine was invented in a civilization 11 k ago and beer was invented before by Sumerian women that drank thru a sieve bottom straw to keep any bits out,, it was very strong!! Egyptians that kept bees brewed enormously strong beer and they had the Nile for water and massive commerce ✨🏞️🌾🌾🍇🍇🐝🍷🍺
Ninkasi is the Goddess of Beer and the ancestor of Eleanor of Aquitaine that gave birth to most of the European houses of royalty including Richard the Lionheart of Britain and France
Puritans, they were like an extreme form of Protestanism, extremely anti-Catholic back then. Answer to your rquestion asked at 4:00
Thank you! 😊
👍😍😍💙😂X
The first series wasn’t awful just different it’s true rowan Atkinson wasn’t happy with his character in the series
They are religious people and wear religious things on them.
What is bizarre is people from other Countries reacting to British humour 20, 30 or even 40 years ago. British culture and everything about Britain has changed completely. The humour has moved on, life has moved on and yet other nations are only just arriving at what has been and gone including the world that was.
