Wow. What beautiful palms! 😍 My daughter and I found one in the trash when I was visiting her 2 years ago. She lives 11 hours away and I’m trying so hard to get it healthy! It doesn’t grow and not sure what I’m doing wrong. I’ve been working diligently on trying to save it. It makes me smile and think of her so it’s very important to me….. thank you for sharing your knowledge…
Hi, how’s your Palm tree doing? Palms need a really well drained soil to grow. I mixed mine with Palm soils, sand, organic compost, and soils. I also use plenty of mulch around the base of the Palm.
Very informative and welcome DONT STOP Just bought some majesty palms only to find they need partial shade so your info was perfect timing Thank Yoy!!!!!
Hi Jeff, thanks for another great and informative video!🌴 With the heat where you are in St.Louis I have to say that here in the UK we possibly could have some very unusual and extremely rare high temperatures next week, some models say we could see temperatures as high as 41-42c (105-109f) in London which this is just absolutely unprecedented to experience temperatures like that this far north in Europe! Hopefully for the sake of our native tree's and wildlife that this won't happen especially as we have not had much to at all any rain for well over a month (this is pretty surprising for the UK) Climate change is happening much quicker than anticipated if this was to happen next week, we were only warned last year that we won't see 40c (100+f) for at least another ten years, how they may have been off about nine fricking years!😬
A nice hot mid summer day “ pottering” around 🤣 whew 103, and I complain about 96... I’m not a sports fan but I do like hearing a summer baseball game on, it just goes with a nice summer day! 🌴😎⚾️
We are having a cool down at 102 today. Of course this is summer time in Palm Springs, CA! Anything under 110 is good. Most of our palms are in the ground but I have had many Queen Palms in pots around patio. In one year, they would get root bound and really difficult to get out of the pot! I love any Palm but now I go for the Miniature varieties!
Hi ya jeff, hope all is well. I've come across a new find that will definitely interest you. I was making my rounds of garden centers(home depot and lowes) to look at the plants and to pick up some screw in hooks....well I forgot the hooks and had to stop by Wal-Mart to grab some. Usually walmarts garden center sucks and I don't bother looking....i said to hell with it this time and decided to look and omg I'm glad I did. What I found was a super dwarf heliconia pitt. It's in a 6in pot, stands no taller than 6in but produces full sized bracts 2 or 3 inches above the foliage that are deep pink and green on the outside, hot pink and white on the inside. The leaves are 4 to 5in long, It's a very lush grower and has completely filled it's pot...it has no name that I can find. It's a very neat little plant
I've seen that before, and have been trying to find its name for what feels like an eternity! Closest I can find is called fireflash, blooms at a small size, but the flower is orange.
Jeff, occasionally during the summer, home depot will have the big bags of miracle grow cactus/palm soil. I need to pull my latest bag out of the trunk actually... And another tip, make friends with someone who has a license who can go to the special nursery places to help you get supplies cheaper. I've got a *giant* bag of perlite for the same price as those itty bitty bags. (Ok, it helps I found someone nursery pots for free...kinda trading assistance for assistance heh.) A local nursery here decided to close, so everything (including the ceramic pots!) was 50% off. So I got a bag of palm fertilizer, some large saucers for the winter and a jug of captain jacks concentrate. Hopefully my sad fishtail palm will reinvigorate itself with proper fertilizer. Only 103? It was 109 today! 8:20pm & it's still 102 out! Actually been outside for 20 min, time to take our houseguest (cat sitting) back inside. About to get dark out too. Feel bad for the kitty being locked in a bedroom for 2 weeks other than 20 min a day outside, but I'm not playing emergency vet trip.
This was such a great video and great explanations. I be been needing a tutorial on reporting palms as I have several that are due for an upgrade to a larger pot. So thanks. By the way have you noticed a diminished inventory of palms this year? Especially mule palms I can’t find one here in the Pensacola Fl area. What about where you live
I've never seen mules for sale here before, but I did notice that the box stores didn't have palms this year except for some very small majesty palms. My local nurseries were pretty well stocked with adonidias and foxtails.
Nice palm and custom potting mix. Personally I do 1/3 compost 1/3 coco or peat 1/3 perlite. Then I add in bloodmeal for nitrogen, bonemeal for Phosphorus and kelp for pottasium. So far so good, but I am slightly worried about root rot at some point. What do you think is this mix safe for fruit trees and palms long term?
Not cold hardy here. We get temps to 0F and sometimes colder every winter. I could try and add all kinds of heat and protection, but it's a lot of work and I'd just rather not. 😆
When you asked yourself if scooted was a word, in my mind I pictured your brain sorting through a word file, like a Rolodex and boom yes it’s a word. I know weird but kinda funny. 🌸💚🙃 My crazy is coming out today I guess. 🌸💚🙃
Oh yeah, I think I even said in that video that I had no intention of taking those inside for winter. Wasn't even going to waste my time or let then take up space that would be better used.
Baseball fan much? My dad used to play in the minor leagues years ago. I guess they had him try out for the majors, he was a pitcher, but during the tryouts they determined that his pitching arm was garbage, meaning it wouldn’t last. Another factor was that he was married, they didn’t want married men at the time, single men only. But I was a baseball brat, going to all the games that were local. 🌸💚🙃
Great video! You have an amazing back yard!

That chart towards the end is a game changer thank you!

Hi Jeff! I always enjoy your videos, even if they don't pertain to me. Thank you so much for sharing!
Tips, tricks, suggestion’s. WE are learning from the master gardener. 🌸💚🙃
Aww. Thank you!
Lookin great, Jeff. Here in GA we have 90’s this week & rain every afternoon…thank heavens. Last week we had our share of 100’s. It was awful.
Finally cooling off here! Probably won't last long, but I'll take what I can get. Yay for rain!
Thanks Jeff, see you on Saturday, stay safe, stay healthy! 🌸💚🙃 And watch your back!🌸💚🙃
Same to you Judy! Thank you!

Oh no! I'd imagine that kind of heat could be devastating and dangerous there! I hope people are able to find places to cool off.

Right? It's part of the summer vibe. Love it!

That's some heat! Gotta love the desert! Palm Springs is beautiful, gorgeous properties and gardens.
Love you, Jeff!
Thank you! Hope you're doing well and had a nice week! ❤️
What a sense of humor😊

Man, I’d love to get one of those for my yard here in Texas! I think it would do well in the ground.
Oh they would do wonderfully there!
@@TropicalPlantParty Just need to find one! In ground plant on south, west facing?

We are finally getting some much needed rain. I think I hear my plants singing in the rain, JK but I’m sure they’re loving it. 🌸💚🙃
We have 3 Majesty Palms and 3 California Palms. I can't wait until they get big. My biggest so far is a Majesty Palm, maybe 3' tall.
Those will grow fast! Before you know it, they'll be huge!

Are root pruning air-pots an option?

I herd I'm just going to drop it in there *looks over * AWE! MY MIKE AINT ON! Lol.
Lol! I forgot I had taken off my mic. Oops!
@@TropicalPlantParty that's what makes your channel great cuz no one's perfect and you don't edit the good up parts.
Completely missed this. Got one question. Why don’t you plant it in the ground?

can i grow a queen tree in container for its life?
💚
Why didn’t you take off the dead dry looking bark?

Ha! That's exactly what happened in my brain when I said it. Didn't sound right so had to take a second and evaluate.
Me to my cat every time I have to take the fun stuff away.. 😂sorry I can’t let you do that I so sorry 🤦🏼♀️
"majesty palms"
remember when you bought like three or four of them? I'm assuming they went to plant heaven.
Oh yeah, I think I even said in that video that I had no intention of taking those inside for winter. Wasn't even going to waste my time or let then take up space that would be better used.

You’re very nice, but, holy mackerel! Wayyy too loquacious!! Lol 20 min in, I was losing daylight and still didn’t know much beyond your private life!
