Haven't listened to this album in years, been going through some bad stuff and decided to pick it up again, no matter how long I leave Green Day they always make me feel better. It's like getting a warm hug from nostalgia.
Please say I wasn't the only one thinking Billie Joe was saying "Rachel love, story of my life" instead of "The rage and love, story of my life" when I first heard this song.
The American Idiot album is what separates Green Day from their contemporaries such as Sum 41, Blink-182 and equivalent IMO. Not often you find pop punk groups that write rock operas as epic as AI. Till now, this album is still giving me chills for all the great memories I had listening to this back in middle school.
The reason it's short is beacause saint jimmy cuts off the song. The jesus of suburbia has manifested his rage making a new identity saint jimmy witch is why their is so much contrast between the two songs. That is why they are most always played together.
Sums up how I felt living in Victoria BC, Canada. People there are stuck up snobby, stupid and disgusting. Leaving there was one of the best days of my life.
Starry nights, city lights coming down over me Skyscrapers and stargazers in my head Are we, we are, are we, we are the waiting unknown This dirty town was burning down in my dreams Lost and found, city bound in my dreams And screaming: "Are we, we are, are we, we are the waiting" And screaming: "Are we, we are, are we, we are the waiting" Forget me nots and second thoughts live in isolation Heads or tails and fairytales in my mind Are we, we are, are we, we are the waiting unknown The rage and love, the story of my life The Jesus of Suburbia is a lie And screaming: "Are we, we are, are we, we are the waiting" And screaming: "Are we, we are, are we, we are the waiting unknown" Are we, we are, are we, we are the waiting And screaming: "Are we, we are, are we, we are the waiting unknown" Are we, we are, are we, we are the waiting unknown

+Sperg Ferguson youve done good, the brain washing is working, also you are my hero i cant even get my choir to sing 21 guns cuz they "arent sure" and even for a trained choir class its "hard to sing"
This song is so freaking beautiful I just can't describe feelings coming throught me while listening to it... Memories, dreams, all that fizzy and euphoric energy... Admiration and love to Green Day!!!!
+Carson Hertler They really are talented, people give them shit because they are not 'real punk' or because they 'sold out' with Dookie and American Idiot, Green Day may not be 'punk' but they express themselves with music, and do what they want regardless of what people say about them, they have done a lot more for the art of music than most people think or even realize, it shows their talent when they sound better a lot better when they play live, they are living legends.
Sandro Ortiz or because they are more political than the average band. Dumb conservatives hate on them for being liberal and speaking out against Donald Dump. But they have great music
Listen to the whole album in a playlist. This album honestly was made to listen to the entirety with the way the songs perfectly fade from one to the next
im allways late for good music like greenday i always knew them but never realized that i would love them im 11 and i have seen them live at reading but it kind of upsets me that im so late for music and when im older i will remeber having the rubbish generation of music like 1d i wish i was born a little bit earlier so i could get all of this from the start:-)
I remember me and my buddy pirating this album and selling them when we were in middle school ahah. I still have a copy somewhere back at My parents house. Would be funny to stumble across it one day.
This is my favorite green day song. There's always been some reason or rationalization someone has to discount my belief in this song, or explain to me me carefully or aggressively why I'm wrong on all accounts. But this is one of those songs that represents a time in my life where I was very, very unsure of myself and the world around me. My family life was rough, I watched my dad who was my hero become very human all of a sudden. I was angry all the time. I lashed out and responded in healthy and unhealthy ways. I began to question my religious upbringing and the people society had selected to be humanity's protection and sanctuary during this confusing and hateful time in US politics. I grew up a lot because of this album, and because of this song - and no line written by this man has, or ever will hit me like "rage and love, the story of my life. The Jesus of suburbia is a lie."
still remember this album on release back in the 2000's and was blown away by this track amongst others. The times may of changed but the messege remains the same.
I see alot of people saying green day carried then thru their highschool years, and I never believed it until now. Green day has been a big influence on me and the way I perceive the world and myself. I always come to listen at anytime, enjoying the music when I'm happy and relating to it when I'm upset.
this album is fucking legendary.
This band is fucking legendary
Yes, Rio Mirada. Yes.
When "and screaming are we we are..." comes, I imagine singing with 10.000 people in a concert
I was lucky enough to see them live last year and they played this song. Everyone took out their flashlights and started singing. It was beautiful.
Don't imagine , live it
Omg that would be so so so fucking awesome....until then excuse me, I'm singing- no screaming alone at 2 am in my living room. Don't give a shit.
Omegalul Nah Rose Bowl in Pasadena
You could imagine a whole 10 people singing it? Wow
"rage and love, the story of my life."
mine is rage without the love.
@@alexjonees9787 edgyyyyyyyyy

Rage? Now it takes sense, I always tough it said «Rachel love» 🤔
The Jesus of suburbia is a lie...

I love Billie
When a song just pops into your head
Walau pun aku gak tau arti lagu nya
pokok nya bagus deh lagu ini
What the hell?! It's tooooo short! It didn't really started enough why it ended.
The reason it's short is beacause saint jimmy cuts off the song. The jesus of suburbia has manifested his rage making a new identity saint jimmy witch is why their is so much contrast between the two songs.
That is why they are most always played together.
Yeah, I understand, but it's still short. ☺
awe, they'll probably play in uk again soon, I've never been to a concert either :(
Sums up how I felt living in Victoria BC, Canada. People there are stuck up snobby, stupid and disgusting. Leaving there was one of the best days of my life.

Part of survival for me in general.

"This dirty town is burning down in my dreams"....this one hits close to home with me.

Everyone saying they want this played at their funeral, I can just imagine everyone stating to raise up lighters in my memory.
Brandon Lujan I thought of that myself. Hits hard.
Lol people are gonna play either kpop or death metal at my funeral despite what I say
@@aaliyahlabarge368 it’s “haha you’re dead” for me

This song is so freaking beautiful I just can't describe feelings coming throught me while listening to it... Memories, dreams, all that fizzy and euphoric energy... Admiration and love to Green Day!!!!
Beautiful.
I've never even heard this song. Every song by Green Day sounds so different! It's crazy. They are so talented.

Same here. Out of all the Green day songs I've heard of, I didn't know this song existed until it came though Green day Playlist I have on Pandora
This is so much better when it isn't followed by St. Jimmy.
Does anyone else love the way he says the word "dirty" in the beginning cause I do
I love this song. Tre Cool’s drumming is so cool. Don’t know any other tunes like it. Really underrated.
This is the type of song that should be played last in a live show. Like literally end the concert with this song. That’d be awesome. 👏👍
I LOVE THIS SONG SO FUCKING MUCH
Freaking love this song
always thought it was a very abrupt ending though want moar!
In stead of stopping at the end, it goes into "St Jimmy", the songs are joined! It's clever! :D
Listen to the whole album in a playlist. This album honestly was made to listen to the entirety with the way the songs perfectly fade from one to the next

One of the most underrated green Day song
I still can't listen to this album without crying, after all these years. This masterpiece is a part of me.

This song is damn underrated I love it!
this is going to sound in my funeral
The drums at the beginning sound like a slowed down version of the drum track to Ticket To Ride, by The Beatles.
Wow, nice catch.
how did I missed that
I thought it sounded familiar
Green Day was my preteen/teenage obsession and this song always captivated me. Over decade later it still hits.
I'm 32 this March and still listening to it since album release
I remember me and my buddy pirating this album and selling them when we were in middle school ahah. I still have a copy somewhere back at My parents house. Would be funny to stumble across it one day.

It’s almost like if this wasn’t greenday it sound like a church song. Like I’d totally hear this at Saddle back church for sure. Lol love this song.
Most underrated song on American Idiot hands down
still remember this album on release back in the 2000's and was blown away by this track amongst others. The times may of changed but the messege remains the same.
