    The LONGINES Spirit Flyback Chronograph is the first one of its kind at Longines since 1968. In fact Longines invented the chronograph "Flyback" mechanism in 1925 and started to manufacture more and more chronographs equipped with it. In 1935 Longines filed a patent and one year later presented the first serial chronograph with "Flyback" function powered by the legendary Calibre 13ZN.
    Curious? More to discover in our video... What a pleasure to unveil this rich history!
    In 2023 the story continues with the extension of the Spirit collection with the new Flyback Chronograph we present in this video. Discover the watches and please share some thoughts with us.
    THE ADVANTAGE OF A FLYBACK FUNCTION?
    This mechanism enables to reset and start a new time measurement with a single press of the reset-push-piece ...

Nivarox uses this manufacturing process to produce the escapement wheel plate and the anchor body. Love the very relevant info in all your videos… there is a lot of nonsense about movements (the Richemont co-lab for example), and it’s great to call out that nonsense. And in this video I was very pleased the bit at the end about COSC and how for decades manufacturers have bettered COSC standards internally, but for marketing purposes “chronometer” for some reason has value, at least for brands more in the mainstream… it’s a relief for me to hear this somewhere in UA-cam… finally 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

    Looks great from the front. Wish it was at least 3mm thinner otherwise it would be on my buy list... It's even thicker than the GO Seaq Pano date flyback which has way more complications!

    • @WatchAdvisor
      @WatchAdvisor  Рік тому +2

      This is caused by the 7750 based calibre ... The NEW GO SeaQ chronograph measures 17,1 mm ... so no big difference... anyhow you must try these watches on your wrist first...

    Very good on reason for flyback! US navigators were issued (when I was there) Tag Heuer flyback stopwatches which were very useful for timing low-level legs on tactical airdrop missions. Being able to re-hack the watch at each turn made DR(dead-reckoning) more accurate. Keep up the great content Alexander! Prost!😁🍺

    I have been in touch with you previously as I have had two Spirit Chonographs (not the flyback) since March 2022. Both have failed. First one had problem with chronograph second hand not resetting at 12 (5 seconds out on re-set). It was replaced after you put me in touch with Longines directly. Second replacement had similar, though not as bad issue. It was sent back for full service (4months) and was returned with hands generally misaligned throughout. Longines main service centre in UK confirmed this.
    Longines UK were sympathetic and helpful though I couldn't obtain a refund as original watch was purchased through an AD (who were hopeless).
    Anyway it's not all bad news as Longines allowed to choose a different watch from their range. I picked up the new Conquest Chronograph from their London Boutique last week and it is a gorgeous watch, which I am wearing on the black NATO. Surprised at the extra cost for the Conquest as it is a cam operated Chronograph , but does have ceramic bezel and sapphire caseback showing the L898.5 caliber. I am a bit of a fan of Longines and have a few of the classic models. I love the more recent releases of the Spirit line although I do not have one I have seen some of them in the flesh. The Zulu time GMT is brilliant as is the 37mm 3 hander. This new flyback looks like it will be just as good in the flesh. Yes it is on the thicker side housing the heavily modified Valjoux 7753 base movement with the column wheel replacing the cam, flyback and the increase in power reserve amongst other requirements from Longines (the 7753 is based on the 7750 with the crown access moved 90 degrees). As this model does not have a date complication that I prefer there is no need for the 'hidden' date advance pusher at the 10 position as needed by watches that also use a 7753 base. Based on the 7753 there would not be a ghost crown date position either. As with other Spirit models it's COSC certified as you mention but the dials are the cherry on the cake. Longines clearly put a lot of effort into the design here as they have with the other Spirit models, leaving out the hour counter for instance. The hour count should you need it can be read by simply rotating the bezel to align with the hour hand when starting the chronograph. As usual Alexander great photography and clear but simple to understand narration. Many thanks for sharing, very well done as always.
