@@SibaNL Lmfao, rule one of being poor is not buying shit brand new. Look on eBay. This was a long time ago so I don’t remember where I was shopping around at the time.
@@friendlyneighborhoodspider3962 Yeah, doubt there are many "new" ones out there as well. The cheapest I could find is around 40 dollars, fuck that. I'll just keep an eye for someone to list one.
Very helpful. My Helix is again as "silent" as on the first day, it doesn't annoy me with "fan error" messages during boot up, and I didn't need to buy the whole heat sink FRU, just some grease. Also, contrary to some other comment, it was LESS work than it would have been to disassemble and exchange the heat sink unit. I just left it fixed to the motherboard during the operation. Of course, I had to take out the motherboard, but that step is necessary either way. But re-greasing the fan is IMO less critical than removing the heat sink from the CPU and attaching a new one, with the heat-conductive paste and everything... Thanks a lot!
Did he buzz with you before too? Here I have yes on the t430 and I did a complete service, almost like in this video, I just lubricated it with car oil. Sometimes it helps a lot, but not this time. The rumble and noise became even more)) The next one will be a thick smear... What do you lubricate? How is his work today?
Unfortunately this isn’t universal. The brushless fan in the asus laptop I’m working on, the rod appears to be glued in. The rod tore from the fan blades. A pair of pliers are even unable to pull the rod out. Guess asus is making self repair harder. Might replace it instead.
Thanks for the explanation. On an unrelated issue, in terms of operation, what is the maximum angle that the screen can be opened to while on the keyboard?
Looking for some help on this... loving my helix and got fan replacement - but noise started some weeks after, and is pretty ugly - ratteling like a electronic razor some time, then most of the time stops - so i guess the fan is stuck completly. Didn't think of it, but i guess the performance issues i experienced lately maybe caused by overheating... So thanks - think i feel comfortable to fix this myself.
Have you ever tied PTFE grease it will not dry out and is very slippery so your motor spins up fast and makes it run silent but if it is oil-lite bearings you must clean the bearing of all oil first before adding the PTFE
Thanls, cleaning worked on my lenovo miix 520. The fan unit is much easier to open here. you just need to remove 4 screws (attention, one is hidden under foam)
i have an asus gx531gw i lost my GPU fan and its now stuck after weeks of faint grinding sounds, im really worried about fixing it, is it easy to pull out?
[GOOD TIP] For better cleaning the fins where dust piled at the fanning end you have to use soapy water dipped tooth brush and carefully clean those fin holes after vacuuming and removing big bust piles on the fins. Then use moist brushing second third times to remove the soapy moisture out fins with careful brushing, you will see a lot of dirt on the brush. Because micro dust particles settled on the fin surfaces and soapy water brushing after vacuuming will do 2nd stage better cleaning of fins so next time the dust wont settle inside the fins so frequently.
Poor college kid just saved $15. Thank you sir!
Mind linking me where you found a "new" one for $15? I've lubricated mine and it's still buzzing.

Your video saved me 50 bucks :D Thanks, I really appreciate it! And yes, I had my laptop in a 35° position all the time (Lenovo T450s).

Great tip, makes sense. Do you have a video showing the removal of the fan/heatsink from the tablet?
Thank you very much for sharing this video. With grease sound is reduced a lot.
Thank you very much for the well explained video. Would you have one on how to dismantle the Helix? That would be really awesome!
Wow this is exactly what i was looking for ! Thanks a lot for this video:)
Thx for this nice tip. prepared my helix before it dies..

is vaseline a safe option to be used as a lubricant here or coconut oil? which one is better?
did you try it? please let me know if it works
@@jaredefrem1871 yeah man vaseline works pretty good 6 mnths so far no weird noises.
@@jaredefrem1871 yeah it works man. its been almost 6 months and all good no noise.
Vaseline is generally not recommended for high temperature as it would dry out easily when exposed to it.
I did that to clean my laptop fan but ended up breaking the Shaft, now I had to order a replacement for $15
Thnx man, just fixed my hp notebook.
Thank you so much for sharing
At first I thought his hands are too big... Then realised that fan is too small. 🙃
